Majority of what go for religious practices in Nigeria, either Christianity or Islam, have nothing to do with religion. They are mere elements of the culture of the tribe of the originator of those religions.

Lagos Police Commissioner, Edgal Imohimi, and Ikorodu monarch, Oba Kabiru Shotobi, had on Monday jointly issued a statement, assuring women of their safety during the festival contrary to the agelong practice restricting movement.

The statement had blamed "mischief makers" for the development in the town, going by a social media report on the festival.

It also quoted the Commissioner of Police as saying that the command would not tolerate any discriminatory tradition against the female gender.

The statement further warned that the command would deal with anybody who hides under the guise of custom or tradition to foster trouble in the state.

Which one is Muslim majority place? Ibadan has more Muslim population than Ilorin. Why are we not targeting it to destabilize?

Well, my opinion is that the grievances of those you call 'Yoruba agitators' should be addressed because their agitation is legitimate (at least to them it is) and did not start today. It's the same reason why the Biafran agitation will never die in spite of several efforts of the Nigerian state to suppress it, until the agitators get their desire -- it will keep passing on from generation to generation until they achieve their objective. It doesn't have to make sense to you since you obviously do not share their aspirations, but that is not enough grounds for you or anyone else to write them off. Ideally, the state can be partitioned to accommodate all parties (those of you that insist on retaining and submitting to the Emirate system and identifying with 'Arewa' should be free to do so while those that reject it should be respected and allowed to merge with their SW brethren). And the whole Sudan allusion is no more than a scare-tactic and attempt to blackmail those people into dropping their grievances without addressing the root causes of their agitation.

Boss man, my mother is from Kwara (igbomina), and in those parts they see themselves as a part of the SW through and through, ditto the Offa and Ekiti folks in the state, so without a doubt the majority of Kwarans and Okuns are not 'deniers'. But in any case, those that choose to renounce or deny being a part of the larger family are free to do so in my opinion, though thankfully they are in the minority and are therefore inconsequential.

Are there no Muslims in other Yoruba States? Are you people more Islamic than them? The problem with Yoruba Ilorin is that they put religion above their ethnicity. They prefer living fulani lifestyles because of religious nonsense! That is why they lost their tribal/national identity.
You don't need to renounce your tribal identity before you can practice Islam. Many Yoruba Ilorin are satisfied with the status quo. I am very sure they are the ones behind the arrest of the embattled imam, not the Fulani.
