South African athlete Oscar Pistorius has been found guilty of culpable homicide after the judge found he killed his girlfriend by mistake.
Judge Thokozile Masipa said the athlete acted "negligently" when he fired shots through a toilet door but in the "belief that there was an intruder".
She said the state had failed to prove he intended to kill Reeva Steenkamp.
He was also found guilty on a charge of negligently handling a firearm that went off in a restaurant.
Pistorius stood impassively in the dock with his hands folded in front of him as the judge read her verdict, which leaves the disgraced sprinter facing a jail sentence of up to 15 years.
Legal experts suggest seven to 10 years is a more likely sentence.

A French-inspired mansion has just hit the market for a stellar $139 million, making it the most expensive home publicly listed for sale in the U.S.
The palatial 60,000-square-foot estate known as Le Palais Royal is spread over four acres and 465 feet of beachfront on Millionaires Mile in Hillsboro Beach, Florida. Le Palais Royal draws inspiration from the Palace of Versailles with gold leafing, stone walkways, balconies and six fountains. Though the palace is currently under construction, here is a sneak peek inside the America’s Most Expensive Home.
The entrance of the house features a 26-foot fountain, plated in gold leaf. The lobby bleeds into ‘Le Salon’, a room overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. It also has a 492-foot private dock for a mega-yacht and 465 feet of private beachfront.
The vaulted foyer opens to sweeping marble staircase with steel-iron and gold leaf railings, which alone costs $ 2 million and took craftsmen over two years to complete.
The grand palace features 11 bedrooms, 17 bathrooms, a bar and a lounge. Four of the bedrooms are master suites with own private Jacuzzis. It also comes equipped with nation’s first in-home IMAX theatre with seating for up to 18 people. The living room comes complete with a high definition 3-D television set, and a 1,300-gallon aquarium.

British Government said it would send military and humanitarian experts to Sierra Leone to set up a medical treatment centre there to care for victims of the Ebola outbreak.
Britain took the decision after 11 major companies pressurised the international community to step up the fight against the worst outbreak of the disease.
Justine Greening, International Development Secretary, said on Monday in London that the 62-bed facility would be built and operated by British military engineers and medical staff near Freetown.
He said the initial phase would be operational within eight weeks.
“The scale of the problem requires the entire international community to do more to assist the affected countries,” he said.
Greening said that the epidemic in West Africa, the worst since the disease was discovered in 1976, had killed more than 2,100 people in Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, and Nigeria and had also spread to Senegal.

The authorities of Adamawa State University, Mubi, in north east Nigeria has announced indefinite closure of the institution due to the fear of possible attack from Boko Haram insurgents.
Malam Hassan Tanko, Acting Registrar of the institution, announced the closure in Yola on Sunday.
The statement, which directed students to go home, stated that the university was closed indefinitely for security reasons.
Mubi, 25 kms from Gulak which was annexed Saturday by Boko Haram Islamic Caliphate, appears to be the next target for the militants.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has uncovered an illegal refinery in Achuze, a boundary town between Kogi and Edo States.
The refinery which has an administrative building and capacity to contain 150,000 litres of the petrol, also has a restaurant in front as a decoy.
The Kogi State Commandant, Mr. Dayo Adesuyi, who led the operation, weekend, disclosed that at least 80 drums containing crude oil waiting to be refined were discovered.
He said the refinery had been set ablaze by his men, adding that one suspect was arrested, while others escaped after a gun battle.
He also said the illegal refinery could refine 10,000 litres of fuel per day, stressing that the command is determined to ensure that those behind the act are fished out.

When asked why he is leaving the E.M.E label, he had this to say; “I’ve been with E.M.E for 5years, so I don’t know what soon is, because when we started the whole Empire entertainment thing, it was to build an empire so everyone could grow, Skales is doing his thing, Banky is doing his thing too, we got Shaydee and Niyola, I got Starboy going on, so everyone is just trying to expand and grow at the end of the day”.
Speaking on his relationship with the label that groomed and launched him into stardom, he said “We are still family, we would still continue doing business together, Banky, Tunde and Segun Demuren are all like my big brothers, it’s a family thing, so we’ll definitely keep doing business”.
We all would recall that Wizkid tried leaving the label in 2012 but opted to stay back after huge media and legal drama but he seems to have made up his mind this time.

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has defended his club’s transfer policy after criticism followed the sale of Angel di Maria to Manchester United.
The European champions sold Di Maria to United last month in a£59.7milliondeal – a British transfer record.
Madrid also sold Spanish midfielder Xabi Alonso to Bayern Munich, much to the disappointment of Cristiano Ronaldo, who recently voiced his discontent and questioned Perez’s decisions.
“I know Cristiano Ronaldo very well,” Perez said in a press conference on Thursday.
“Cristiano is the best player in the world and his loyalty to Madrid is unquestionable.
“I have listened to all the comments he made and as I know him, I know that he never questioned the club.
“My relationship with him is perfect, there are zero discrepancies. “Cristiano is the best player in the world, it’s obvious, and more so this year.”
Perez revealed that Di Maria left Real no option but to sell him after the Argentina international had turned down an improved contract following his impressive 2013-14 campaign.
“I’ve been here since 2000,” Perez said. “Since then a lot of players have come and gone and my experience tells me that the ones that leave are always the best and those that arrive are always questioned.
“My first (signing) was (Zinezine) Zidane and the last (before this summer’s transfer market) was (Gareth) Bale.
“We made the best offer that we could to Di Maria and he didn’t accept it.
“Hence, we brought in James (Rodriguez), one of the best players at the World Cup and the Golden Boot award winner.

Stoke City goalkeeper Asmir Begovic has been honoured with the official world record for the “longest goal scored in football’ after his stunning strike at home to Southampton last season.
The Bosnia-Hercegovina goalkeeper’s bizarre kick forwardwithin just 13 seconds of his side’s 1-1 draw against Southampton in November- measured at 91.9 metres- or 301 feet, 6 inches- has been entered into the Guinness World Records 2015 Book.
“I feel amazing to be honoured in this way and as a goalkeeper I didn’t expect this to happen, not for this type of record anyway- I will take it though and enjoy it,” said the 27-year-old.

Traders Lost N50m Worth Of Goods To Fire in Onitsha

Traders at the Bright Street section of Onitsha Main Market are now counting their losses, following last Tuesday night fire that gutted goods worth millions of naira at the market.
The fire, according to a source, started at about 9.45 pm on the first floor of one of the storey buildings and destroyed some warehouses which were allegedly stocked with rice, chemicals and other spiritual materials worth over N50 million.
The source, however, noted that the inferno did not affect other shops located on the ground floor.
One of the eye-witnesses, Mike Okongwu, told vanguard reporters that when the fire started at that odd hour, a vigilante man guarding the area saw smoke coming out from one of the shops when it became unbearable, he alerted the chairman of the street traders, Ifeanyi Chukwudum (Ifetex), who immediately contacted the police for a dispatch of some policemen to the scene.
At the scene of the incident, fire fighters from Onitsha Main market and their counterpart from Okpoko Fire Service Station were on ground to contain the inferno from spreading its tentacles.
The Fire Officer, Okpoko Fire Service Station, Ogbaru Local Government, Mrs. Mary Affah, said her men arrived the scene about fifteen minutes later on receiving a phone call over the fire outbreak, even as she noted that the cause of the fire incident was yet unknown.
She disclosed that two of her fire officers sustained various degrees of injuries while attempting to put out the fire.
When contacted, chairman Bright Street Traders Association and Governor’s Liaison Officer for Onitsha North Local Government, Chief Chukwudum, emphasized the need for all the shops to have custody of fire extinguisher.
