CelebritiesAfrican China Set To Change His Music Style by Endougs(op): 8:02am On Oct 14, 2014
Nigerian singer, African China revealed in a recent interview why he has not been churning out hits like he used to years back.
He said:
You know when I dropped Anuboko, someone was like ‘haba! We are tired of this killing thing. Just give us something like sip champagne and drink mowet. I didn’t reply him but unluckily for him, one of my fans did by telling him that he should shut his mouth because Anuboko is talking about issues that are happening today in our country so why is he asking for champagne and mowet. Initially the song was entitled Boko Haram but we had issues with the title so we have to change it to Anuboko because the promo was not working out. However, the lyrics remain the same.
Well, I am just going to be doing some experimental on my new singles like the new stuff you call new school; I mean what the youth are used to now which is champagne and mowet (Laughter) oh yes! However you will still get that raw African China feel of old.
On his regrets
I have to be honest with you, life was very rough and tough for my family. I didn’t grow up like a normal kid. I am not one of those who can proudly say that he went to school. In fact, I have never been in a private school. I was a pupil in schools like elementary or Akara School. Then we carried something like a piece of flat wood called slate and played all day. I am not proud of the fact that I never went to a proper school. However, on the flip side that has contributed in making me who I am today; it has made me a stronger person. The reason why I am saying I am not proud of it is because I need to send a message to others leaving in the same conditions today. I want them to know that they need to hustle and get out of that life by getting an education. That is what I mean when I say I am not really proud of my past life. However I am proud of who I am today and what life has thought me.

BusinessApple And Google Top's World Most Valuable Brands List by Endougs(op): 1:05pm On Oct 10, 2014
For the second year in row, Apple has topped Google as the world's most valuable brand.
The two are the only brands to be valued at more than $100 billion, according to the annual Best Global Brands report.
The ranking, compiled by Interbrand consultancy, considers three main criteria. Besides the financial performance of branded products, it also looks at how the brand influences customer choice, and whether it can push up the price of a product.
Valued at $118.9 billion, Apple increased its value by 21% year-on-year, while Google's brand value of $107.43 billion jumped 15% compared to last year.

"Apple and Google's meteoric rise to more than $100 billion is truly a testament to the power of brand building," according to Jez Frampton, Interbrand's CEO.
Tech companies are heavily represented in the ranking with IBM 4, Microsoft 5 and Samsung 7, in the top 10.
The ranking is also a good news for the car industry, as four automobile companies -- Toyota 8 , Mercedes-Benz 10 , BMW 11, and Honda 20 -- all made in into the top 20.

Three other carmakers were among the top rising brands. Audi's brand value increased 27%, while Volkswagen and Nissan both saw a boost of 23%.
But Facebook was the ranking's top riser, gaining 86% in brand value and jumping 33 spots to number 29. Facebook has grown again last year, with the number of monthly active users at 1.32 billion, up 14% year-over-year. It's $2.91 billion revenues in second quarter smashed expectations, growing 61% compared to last year.
Among the ranking's newbies are DHL (81), Land Rover (91), FedEx (92), Hugo Boss (97), and Huawei (94).

By joining the elite club, the Chinese telecommunication giant Huawei became the first company to represent China in the ranking.
The third largest smartphone manufacturer in the world, behind Samsung and Apple, reported a 34.4% net profit increase to $3.38 billion in 2013.

PoliticsMalala Yousafzai, Kailash Satyarthi Win Nobel Peace Prize by Endougs(op): 12:40pm On Oct 10, 2014
Malala Yousafzai of Pakistan and Kailash Satyarthi of India jointly won the Nobel Peace Prize on Friday for risking their lives to fight for children’s rights.
Malala, a 17-year-old student and education activist, is the youngest ever Nobel winner. She was shot in the head by a Taliban gunman two years ago for insisting that girls also have the right to an education.
Satyarthi, 60, has been at the forefront of a global movement to end child slavery and exploitative child labor since 1980, when he gave up his career as an electrical engineer. The grassroots activist has led the rescue of tens of thousands of child slaves and developed a successful model for their education and rehabilitation. He has also survived several attempts on his life.
“This is an honor for all my fellow Indians, as well as an honor for all those children in the world whose voices were never heard before properly,” Satyarthi told India’s NDTV network.
The Nobel committee’s announcement reflected a delicate diplomatic balance, naming one activist from Pakistan and another from India, two countries that are long-time bitter rivals; one Muslim and one Hindu; both sexes; an elder statesman of child’s rights and a youthful advocate who had herself been a victim.

PoliticsOkonjo-iweala Awarded Africa’s Finance Minister Of The Year by Endougs(op): 12:20pm On Oct 10, 2014
Nigeria’s Finance Minister, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has been named African Finance Minister of the year by the African Investor Magazine.
The minister received the award on the sideline of the ongoing annual meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington DC, as she was lauded for her outstanding performance as the minister in charge of government finances, economic policy and financial .
Okonjo-Iweala, while thanking the African Investor Magazine for the honour, called on investors in the continent to join the fight against the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) that has brought economies in some West African countries to their feet.
“What is happening in Liberia, Guinea and Sierra-Leone and the success we had in Nigeria and Senegal in containing this virus should not be allowed to set Africa back.
“You as private sector and friends of Africa need to send the message that we should not be so afraid of Ebola that we stigmatise the whole continent.
Okonjo-Iweala also said that in spite of the challenges faced by Africa, including infrastructure, poor education system, governance, corruption, employment, among others, its leaders should sustain the successes recorded in the past.
“We are not shying away from these challenges but the turning point now is that we are in the continent where we have the political will and confidence to tackle these challenges.
“I think that we as Africans must always take the lead because if we don’t solve our problems, nobody can do it for us,” she said.

PoliticsNigeria Donates $3.5m To Liberia, And Other Afected Countries by Endougs(op): 10:09am On Oct 09, 2014
The Minister of Health, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu, on Wednesday said Nigeria had already donated $3.5m as part of its intervention in the affected countries.
Chukwu said the sum was made up of $500,000 to each of the countries and the balance to the common ECOWAS Fund for the disease.
He also said 591 health practitioners had volunteered to join the international force that would go to Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea to help in the containment of the Ebola Virus Disease.
He said the volunteers registered with his ministry at three points in Lagos, Abuja and Port-Harcourt.
Chukwu said this while speaking with State House correspondents at the end of the weekly Federal Executive Council meeting presided over by President Goodluck Jonathan.
He said that he had already told a recent meeting of the United Nations General Assembly on EVD of Nigeria’s readiness to help the three countries.
He said, “I informed the United Nations General Assembly that the President has already directed the Federal Ministry of Health to train and send health personnel to these three countries in the area of special laboratory work to strengthen capacity in those countries.
“I also informed them that as part of Nigeria’s contributions to the international team that will be set up to tackle Ebola Virus Disease in those countries, already Nigeria volunteers from different health professions have been registering with us, willing to join the international force that will go to Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea to help out with the containment.
“As of now, 591Nigerians have already registered with us in three registries we opened in Lagos, Abuja Port Harcourt.”
The minister however said there were certain conditions to be met before the volunteers would be allowed to leave the country.
He said the first step was for President Goodluck Jonathan to approve their journey and mission and that the volunteers would be properly trained according to Nigeria’s standards, which, he said, was fairly high.
Chukwu said he also told the meeting, which was called to review the global situation on the disease that Nigeria is now Ebola-free. He said the country had had 19 cases with seven deaths contrary to the 20 cases being reported by the foreign media.
“Presently there is no single case of active Ebola Virus Disease in Nigeria, no single contact that is presently under surveillance in any part of the country,” he declared.
He said the ban on repatriation of corpses as well as inter-state movement of corpses was still in force, adding that the ban remained except where approval had been granted by the Minister of Health.

PoliticsPresident Jonathan To Sue Media Over Report About His '$100 Million Wealth' by Endougs(op): 9:49am On Oct 09, 2014
President Goodluck Jonathan characterized the reports including him in the list of top richest presidents of Africa as baseless and threatened to sue the responsible media.
Goodluck Jonathan
According to Premium Times, speaking October 8 on the issue, the country leader described the reports as an attempt to incite Nigerian against him.
It would be recalled that the US-based website Richest Lifestyle ranked Goodluck Jonathan as 6th richest African president with the wealth worth about $100 million. The information went viral immediately and started circulating in the Nigerian media.
Reacting to the development, the president, speaking through his spokesman Reuben Abati, demanded a retraction of the “libellous” publication and an apology, threatening to initiate legal action within and outside Nigeria.
“The Presidency condemns the totally unwarranted inclusion of President Jonathan in the publication titled ‘Africa’s Richest Presidents 2014′ as another attempt to unjustifiably portray the President as a corrupt leader and incite public disaffection against him. We therefore demand a retraction and an unreserved apology from Richest Lifestyle.com and all those who have reproduced the offensive article. Otherwise, they should be prepared to substantiate their libelous claims against the president in courts of law within and outside Nigeria.”
While President Jonathan has never publicly declared his asset, it is unclear how Richest Lifestyle arrived at its figure of $100 million. The report did not contain explanation, neither did it provide details of the alleged analysis.
The Nigerian officials’ statement continued:
“We categorically assert that there is no factual basis for ranking President Jonathan as the sixth richest African Head of State with a net worth of about $100 Million U.S. Dollars. As is well known, President Jonathan has never been a businessman or entrepreneur, but a life-long public servant. The President has held public office since 1999 and has regularly declared his assets as required by Nigerian laws.”
Abati insisted that the figure given in the report was far from true adding that the aim of the publications was to tarnish Jonathan’s image.
“There has been no significant variation in the totality of his personal assets as contained in his last declaration to the Nigerian Code of Conduct Bureau in 2011 which, as can be verified, was a very, very far cry from the $100 million figure now being bandied about by Richest Lifestyle.com and other irresponsible, copy-cat publications. The clear and unacceptable imputation of the claim that President Jonathan is now worth about $100 Million is that the President has corruptly enriched himself while in office which is certainly not the case.”

HealthPonmo Consumption Is Dangerous – Nigerian Expert by Endougs(op): 9:52am On Oct 08, 2014
After indications emerged that the Federal Government might ban the selling of Nigerian delicacy “ponmo” (animals’ hides and skins), Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of Leather Science and Technology (NILEST) explained why consumption of such food might by dangerous.
Hides and skins, or ponmo
Speaking October 7 on the issue, Dr Isuwa Adamu warned Nigerians against consuming the popular dish, P.M. News reports with reference to the specialist’s interview with NAN.
Adamu said consumption of the product as meat substitute was dangerous to health.
“In fact, it is not advisable for you to consume ponmo in the sense that some of the animals killed and used for ponmo actually have skin diseases. Some of these skin diseases are such that boiling them ordinarily, may not kill the bacteria.”

The expert disclosed how sick animals with chemicals stuffed in their skin become food.
“Some of the animals because of the ailments that they have gone through, are sometimes treated by way of injection with chemicals. People don’t allow these chemicals to complete its cycle and be removed from the body; they sometimes go ahead to kill these animals. So, if you consume the ponmo, the tendency is that you are consuming the chemicals directly because the skin part of the animal retains most of the harmful substances.”
Adamu said that NILEST insisted that the authorities limit consumption of ponmo, adding that the institute also worked with people to raise awareness to the issue.
He urged the Nigerian authorities to introduce policies, which would be enforced to reduce ponmo consumption in the country adding that it would improve the quality of raw hides and skins available.
