Health / All About Applevet Lightening Cream by eneubane1(f): 3:54pm On Feb 22, 2021
Applevet Lightening Cream is a brightening gel that reduces the appearance of dark spots, pimples, fine lines, wrinkles, evens out the skin tone and makes your complexion fairer.

Its main ingredients are vitamin C, vitamin E, hyaluronic acid, sea water and algae to deeply nourish and lighten your skin. The cream increases skin moisture and helps to prevent premature ageing, thereby promoting a healthy and radiant looking complexion.

This tube cream is active against eczema, psoriasis, prurigo, acute dermatitis, allergic reactions and local inflammatory. It enhances the cutaneous system, thereby bringing the skin to its normal physiological condition.

I found out about the applevet lightening cream while I was making research on good and affordable face creams to lighten my face complexion which was darker than the rest of my body. To also treat my pimples and clear my dark spots.

So I surfed the web to get more information about it but was disappointed because I couldn’t find any detailed article about the cream except for short descriptions written about it in the stores that are selling it.

Luckily, I came across some positive reviews on YouTube about it and decided to give it a try. So I bought the applevet lightening cream for N350 from a supermarket and used it daily on my face for a month and this is my honest review.

Applevet lightening cream is a good face cream that is gentle on the skin and it works but not fast. It doesn’t lighten your skin overnight, neither does it clear your dark spots within a week.

It is cheap and can be mixed with other creams to boost its effect. You can try funbact a triple action cream or epiderm cream as alternative. They are similar and highly recommended for all skin types.

I don't want to be insensitive but I don't understand why some people live their lives on social media. The only thing she is going to get online is pity, petty charity and probably insults and fingers pointing at her character and upbringing by people who don't even know her.

Meanwhile I want to advice every lady, both married and single to fend for themselves. It is not the sole responsibility of a husband to take care of the family. The main reason why most men abuse women is because they feel without them you're nothing.

Just imagine this lady had something doing to contribute to the growth of the family, the man would think twice before hitting her if she has a good character. He wouldn't just pour his frustration on her because he knows, she got his back and would support him with love and understanding through their trialling time.

Women should also learn to respect their husbands, nagging and abusing him will only make matters worse. If he suddenly changed, it is your responsibility to find out what's wrong and not run from your matrimonial home. Marriage is not just for the good but the hard times as well.

Just think of how you get offended and angry when your younger ones or kids disrespect and talk back at you, the same thing applies to a man. They don't like to be challenged or talked back at but women won't just keep quite.

Whenever your husband, fiance or boyfriend is quarreling or insulting you, just keep quite, I know it's not easy but it can prevent alot of damages and it'll promote peace and also increase the respect he has for you in the long run.

Lastly, don't ever depend on your spouse 100%, nobody knows tomorrow, he might need help or support anytime. And your contribution will also go a long way in the growth of the family.

May God give you the wisdom to understand and learn from this writeup!

Food / The Best Kilishi Recipe (nigerian Beef Jerky) by eneubane1(f): 3:22pm On Jan 22, 2018
Kilishi is a spicy beef jerky originated from northern Nigeria. It is similar to suya but the preparation and texture are not the same.

Traditionally, Kilishi is dried under the sun's intense heat for about 3 days. They simply dry the fillets of beef in the sun for 2 days then soak them in the Kilishi spice solution and spread in the sun (on flat rafia baskets) till it dries.

But here's how to make it under an hour in your kitchen.

Ingredients
• 10 pieces wafer-thin beef
• 1 tablespoon suya spice
• 3 cloves of garlic
• 1 teaspoon cloves (Kanafuru)
• A small piece of ginger
• 1 small stock cube
• ¼ teaspoon salt
• 1 teaspoon dry cayenne pepper seeds

Notes
1. The beef you will use for Kilishi should be cut from the reddest part of the beef with no fat at all.

2. Cut the beef as thin as possible. It is usually as thin as 3mm.

3. Be careful when adding salt else the Kilishi will be over-seasoned when done.

4. You only need a small quantity of salt. You may not even need it if you do not eat a lot of salt.

5. You get the dry cayenne pepper seeds by removing the red part of the pepper.

Directions
• Grind the cloves with a dry mill and set aside. Peel the garlic and ginger and grind into a smooth paste.

• Add the ground cloves and crushed stock cubes to the garlic and ginger paste. Add some water, stir and sieve to get an extract of these spices and seasoning.

• Add the suya spice and cayenne pepper seeds to the solution, stir and set aside.

• Cut the beef into very thin fillets if it has not been done for you by the butchers. Cut off all traces of fat from the beef.

• Set your oven to 250°C (475F) or Gas Mark 9 to preheat. If your oven temperature settings are not up to these, use the highest possible setting but this means that your own drying times will change.

• If your oven has a fan, turn it on as well because it helps dry the beef faster. Sprinkle a tiny quantity of salt on the fillets of beef and spread them around. You only need a tiny quantity and you can skip salt altogether.

• Line your oven tray with a baking sheet and lay the pieces of beef flat on it.
Put the tray of beef into the oven and bake for 15 minutes.

• Flip the beef every 5 minutes for even drying. After 15 minutes, bring out the beef from the oven and brush the Kilishi all over them, making sure that both sides of the beef are well covered.

• Some grill it after soaking in the Kilishi solution. Put them back in the oven and bake for additional 10 to 15 minutes. Flip them from time to time and this time, keep a very good eye on it else it will become bone dry.

• You want it dry and chewy not crunchy. Please note that the Kilishi will become drier when it has cooled down completely so bear this in mind when deciding the time to bring it out of the oven.

• Serve Kilishi with a chilled drink. Enjoy!

Food / How To Prepare Tomato Omelette by eneubane1(f): 4:07pm On Dec 14, 2017
Tomato omelette is a dish made with beaten eggs and tomatoes, cooked in a frying pan without stirring, flipped over to cook on both sides, and sometimes filled or topped with cheese, chives or other foodstuffs.

It is similar to egg stew and can be mistaken for fried eggs at sight but the taste and preparation is different. Here's how to make tomato omelette.

Ingredients
• 1 egg
• 1 medium plum tomato (Jos Tomato)
• 1 small onion
• A small cut of butter or vegetable oil (for frying)
• Salt (to taste)
• Ground Pepper (optional)

Note: A non-stick frying pan is best for making omelettes.

Directions
• Cut the tomato into small pieces. I prefer to remove the seeds. Cut the onion into small pieces. The onions should be the same quantity as the tomato (after cutting them).

• Beat the egg, add a pinch of salt and the ground dry pepper if you are using this, stir well and set aside.

• Set your frying pan to heat up. Melt half of the piece of butter and add the onions. Fry for a few seconds and add the tomato.

• Fry till they are well heated up, this should take a maximum of 5 minutes on medium heat. Pour this into the beaten egg. Mix well and add more salt if necessary.

• Set the frying pan back on the stove and melt the other half of the butter. Once the butter melts, slowly pour the egg and tomato mixture making sure that it is evenly distributed in the frying pan.

• Turn the heat down to low. On a scale of 1 to 10, the heat should be at 4. Then wait.
Wait till you see the tomato omelette caking. Once the heat is low, it will not burn so you need not worry.

• Also, using a non-stick frying pan helps ensure that your tomato omelette will not burn.
Once it has caked considerably, shake the frying pan and the omelette will move on its own.

• If it doesn't then it is either the heat is too much or the inside of your frying pan is too rough or both. Gently transfer the omelette to a very flat wide plate.

• Cover the omelette in the plate with the frying pan and flip in such a way that the top side is now at the bottom of the frying pan.

• Set the frying pan back on the stove and fry till the bottom side is well fried. Once it cakes, it's ready!

• Serve with slices of bread, fried plantain, fried yam, boiled yam or fried potatoes. Enjoy!

Food / How To Make Delicious Egg Stew by eneubane1(f): 2:55pm On Dec 09, 2017
Egg stew is yummy and rich in protein, it is easy to prepare and can be served with some Nigerian stable foods. It is often mistaken for tomato omelette.

Both are not the same, they are both prepared with the same ingredients, but not in the same quantities and time.

While tomato omelette consists mainly of eggs, Egg stew has more of tomatoes. Unlike ofada stew, buka stew and tomato stew. Eggs are the main ingredient for making egg stew.

Ingredients:::
• 2 Eggs
• 4 medium plum tomatoes
• 1 medium onion
• Dry Pepper (to taste)
• 1 stock cube
• Salt to taste
• 2 cooking spoons of vegetable oil

Directions:::
• Remove the seeds from the tomatoes and cut into big slices, also cut the onion into big slices. Beat the two eggs, add a pinch of salt and set aside.

• Heat the vegetable oil in a pot, when hot, lower the heat to medium. Add the onions and stir fry for about 2 minutes.

• Add the tomatoes, stir for a bit and cover the pot. This is so that the tomatoes and onions do not dry up too quickly. Stir from time to time though.

• After about 5 minutes, add the ground pepper, salt and seasoning cube. Keep stirring till the tomato is completely soft and separated from the oil.

• Slowing pour the egg in a circular motion. Do NOT stir. Cover the pot and reduce the heat to low to allow the egg to cake.

• You want the egg to form lumps in the stew rather than looking mushy. Egg stew is ready.

• Serve with boiled yam, boiled potatoes, white rice, fried yam, fried plantain/ potatoes or plain sliced bread.

Food / How To Make Assorted Peppered Meats by eneubane1(f): 5:51pm On Dec 07, 2017
Assorted peppered meats are simply fried or grilled meat incorporated in spicy pepper stew. It is tasty, crunchy and very yummy.

A Nigerian party is never complete without assorted peppered meats on the menu. It is usually served as small chop and is always a winner.

For the assorted meats, beef, goat meat, cow leg, shaki (tripe) are ideal. It is similar to peppered snail, gizzard and asun recipe.

Ingredients:
• 1kg Assorted Meats
• 5 Red Bell Peppers/Tatashe
• 4 Big Tomatoes
• 2½ Onions
• 2 Scotch Bonnet (Atarodo)
• 140g Tomato Purée
• 1 Cup Vegetable Oil
• 4 Knorr Chicken cubes
• 1 teaspoon Curry
• 1 teaspoon Thyme
• 1 inch Ginger
• 4 Garlic cloves (Minced)
• Salt to taste

Preparation:
• Boil your meats with garlic, ginger, onion, seasoning cubes, curry and salt to taste. When it’s boiled, grill or deep fry and set aside.

• Roughly blend or grind your peppers, tomatoes, ginger and 1½ Onions with as little water as possible and set aside.

• Pour the blended pepper mixture and minced garlic into a big pot, place on medium heat, then boil down for 10 minutes.

• While that’s boiling, get another pot, add the vegetable oil, place on low to medium heat, when it’s hot, add 1 chopped onion, fry the onions for 5 minutes or until it begins to caramelise.

• Then add the tomato puree, fry till the puree loses its sourness and begins to taste sweet. Taste the puree every now and then to make sure it’s sweetened, this should take roughly 8 minutes.

• Then add the fried pepper puree along with the some curry, thyme, seasoning cubes. Stir and continue to fry for 5 minutes.

• Now, add the fried or grilled meats and stir thoroughly. Turn the heat down to low and continue to fry for 5 minutes.

• For a deeper and richer flavour, let the meats soak in the stew for as long as possible before serving.

• That’s it. Garnish with sliced red onions, thin slices of green pepper or roundly cut green chillies, tatashe or red chillies and serve. Enjoy!

Food / The Best Yam Porridge Recipe by eneubane1(f): 4:28pm On Dec 04, 2017
Yam porridge is a very delicious meal eaten by most tribes in Nigeria but it’s more common in the Yoruba speaking parts of the country.

Nigerian yam porridge is made from puna yam which is boiled till it’s tender and cooked in a blend of ingredients. It can be served for breakfast, lunch or even dinner.

Prep Time: 10
Cook Time: 25
Total Time: 35 minutes

Ingredients
• 1/2 medium sized Puna Yam
• 1 medium sized Onion
• 1½ Starter Sauce (a blend of peppers, tomatoes and onions)
• 2 tablespoons of Crayfish
• 2 Smoked fish (Shredded) (optional)
• Any Leafy vegetables (optional)
• 2 Stock cubes
• Salt to taste
• 1/2 Cup fresh Palm Oil

Instructions
• Slice the onions and set aside. Blend some tomatoes, peppers and onions and keep aside for later use (that's if you don't have an already made tomato puree mixture)

• Peel and cut the yam into medium sized chunks and rinse a couple of times. Put the yams inside a pot, add water to cover the yams and let it cook for 15 minutes on medium heat.

• Add the starter sauce, palm oil, onions, cray fish, stock cubes and salt to taste then allow it to cook for an additional 15 minutes on a low heat.

• Now add the smoked fish. You can use whatever addition you prefer at this point, it's up to you to decide. Though its not compulsory.

• Mash the yams with a potato masher or a wooden spoon. You can mash everything into a creamy paste and you can mash most of the Yams and still leave some chunks behind.

• At this point, add the leafy vegetables if you're using any and allow the yam porridge to simmer for 5 more minutes and it is ready. Serve hot and enjoy.

Black soup is a delicious and healthy Nigerian soup. It is made from a combination of ground leafy vegetables which gives it a dark color.

Nigerian black soup is native to the people from the south-south in Edo state. It is called black soup because it traditionally looks dark in colour.

Ingredients:::
• 1 fresh fish
• 6 pieces beef
• 1 medium size smoked Fish
• 4 pieces pomo
• 1 cup periwinkle
• 1 spoon ground crayfish
• 2 medium sized yellow pepper
• 2 cups banga juice (palm fruit extract) or palm oil
• 1 medium bunch scent leaves
• 1 handful washed bitter leaves
• 1 medium bunch uziza leaves
• 1 medium bunch ugwu leaves
• 2 seasoning cubes
• Salt to taste

Directions:::
• The first step is to re-wash the already hand washed bitter leaf with clean water then squeeze off excess water and set aside.

• Soak the scent leaves, uziza leaves and ugwu leaves in salty water for 5 mins and rinse with clean water. Chop into smaller pieces with a knife and place in a a blender with the washed bitter leaves.

• Add a little water just to make the blades of the blender move then grind and set this aside. Blend the yellow peppers and keep aside for later use.

• Place the beef and pomo in a small pot, add the seasoning cubes and salt to taste. Cook for about 20 minutes till tender and the liquid in the pot reduces.

• Add the washed smoked fish and fresh fish, banga juice, blended pepper, crayfish, washed periwinkles and leave to cook further for about 10 minutes.

• Gently pour in the blended vegetables, stir and cook for another 10-12 minutes before turning off the burner.

• That's it, your Black Soup is ready for consumption. Serve with pounded yam, semolina, cassava fufu or any other swallow of your choice.

Food / How To Make Popcorn by eneubane1(f): 11:45am On Nov 27, 2017
Popcorn is a delicious snack food made from corn kernels. It is often sold at the movies, on parks, roadside and in the market.

It is made by dry heating. Here's how to make tasty popcorn at home.

• Prep time: 5 mins
• Cook time: 5 mins
• Total time: 10 mins

Ingredients:::
• 3 tbsp Vegetable oil OR 2 tbsp Butter/ Margarine
• 1 cup Popcorn kernels
• ½ tsp Salt or 2 tbsp Sugar

Directions:::
• The first step is to choose the type of fat you want to use. You could either use cooking oil, margarine or butter which is the most preferable.

• Using butter gives it a wonderful flavor. You could add this before and after popping. Place the fat you intend using in the pot and let it melt.

• Pour the vegetable oil or melted fat into the pot and add about 3 kernels into it. Cover the pot and place on the stove burner.

• Cook over medium heat until the 3 kernels pop. Remove the popped kernels from the pot and add the salt or sugar and the rest of the corn kernels.

• Place the pot back on the burner on medium heat making sure the pot is properly covered. Not only does this ensure you don't burn the popcorn, it also ensures all of the kernels pop.

• Cook while shaking the pot occasionally until the popping in the pot slows down. Take the lid off the pot to let the steam out and keep the popcorn crisp.

• There you have it, your yummy popcorn is ready. Serve your guguru with roasted groundnut.

• Please share and leave a comment below and don't forget to give me feedback on how your popcorn turned out.
