Crime / Re: Nigeria's Growing Humanitarian Crisis: Halting The Menace Of Herder Violence by engrcalvin: 6:37pm On Nov 08, 2023
I concur with your perspective on the lack of adequate awareness. It is evident that these challenges run deep, and it is imperative for the government, civil society, and the international community to collaborate in order to identify solutions and extend assistance to those in need.

Furthermore, it is worth considering that, given the government's inability to curb the activities of the killer herdsmen and their sponsors in committing these atrocious crimes against humanity, it becomes essential for local communities to be empowered to defend themselves against such attacks. Every Nigerian life matters, and both the government and affected states must adopt innovative strategies to put an end to these malevolent forces.
Enough is Enough!!!

Crime / Nigeria's Growing Humanitarian Crisis: Halting The Menace Of Herder Violence by engrcalvin: 9:42am On Nov 08, 2023
Nigeria, often referred to as the "Giant of Africa," is facing an escalating crisis that demands the world's attention. Over the past few years, the country has witnessed a surge in violence, as herders have been implicated in acts of terrorism and have caused widespread displacement of communities. The humanitarian crisis has reached such a critical point that the United Nations has stated that the situation in Internally Displaced Persons' (IDPs) camps in Benue State is worse than that in the North Eastern region, including Borno State, which is known as the headquarters of Boko Haram insurgency.

THE UN'S CONCERN:

The Resident/Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, Dr. Mathias Schmale, raised the alarm when he visited Governor Hyacinth Alia in Benue State. According to him, the humanitarian crisis in IDP camps in Benue State surpasses the severity of the crisis in Borno State, which has long been grappling with the devastating impact of Boko Haram. The situation in Benue, largely fueled by herder-related violence, has left over 241,342 individuals displaced, struggling to find shelter, food, and safety.

The crisis in Benue State is a stark reminder of the urgency needed to address the growing humanitarian disaster that has engulfed the nation. These IDP camps are overcrowded and under-resourced, with families living in dire conditions and lacking basic necessities. The United Nations and various humanitarian organizations are working tirelessly to provide assistance, but the scale of the crisis exceeds the available resources.

INTERNATIONAL WARNINGS:

The severity of the situation is further emphasized by the travel advisories issued by prominent nations like Canada and the United States. On November 6, 2023, the government of Canada updated its travel advisory to warn its citizens against non-essential travel to Nigeria. The advisory cited the unpredictable security situation throughout the country, coupled with the significant risk of terrorism, crime, inter-communal clashes, armed attacks, and kidnappings as the key reasons behind this decision.

Canada's advisory comes just days after the United States issued its own warning to its citizens in Nigeria on November 3, 2023. These advisories are a testament to the worsening security conditions in the country, making it evident that the crisis is no longer confined to specific regions but has spread across Nigeria.

In addition to avoiding Nigeria as a whole, Canada has also singled out several Nigerian states, such as Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Sokoto, Zamfara, Plateau, Kogi, Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Jigawa, Yobe, and the Niger Delta states of Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Bayelsa, Delta, Imo, and Rivers (except Rivers' capital city, Port Harcourt). This is due to the risks of terrorism, armed attacks, kidnapping, inter-communal violence, and sectarian clashes that continue to plague these regions.
As a citizen of Benue State, it saddens me every time I journey from Abuja to Makurdi. The heartbreaking sight of IDP camps as you near Makurdi leaves one contemplating the plight of these blameless individuals who've been compelled to abandon their homes. Their loved ones have fallen victim to the brutality of herders who persistently commit these heinous acts. It leads one to ponder how few of these culprits' backers have faced legal consequences. These are individuals who openly issue threats, yet it seems as though nobody is willing to hold them accountable for their actions.

A CALL TO ACTION:

Nigeria's humanitarian crisis is a stark reminder that urgent action is needed to address the escalating violence and displacement. The situation is not confined to one region or group; it affects the entire nation and demands a collective response from both the Nigerian government and the international community.

It is imperative for the Nigerian government to prioritize the safety and well-being of its citizens by taking effective measures to curb the violence and ensure the protection of vulnerable communities. Collaboration with international organizations and neighboring countries is essential to finding a lasting solution to the crisis.

The international community must also step up its efforts to support Nigeria in dealing with this humanitarian disaster. Increased humanitarian aid, security cooperation, and diplomatic initiatives are vital to bringing stability and peace back to Nigeria.
Nigeria's growing humanitarian crisis is a tragedy that cannot be ignored. As international warnings continue to highlight the severity of the situation, the world must come together to support the people of Nigeria and work towards a future where peace and stability prevail over violence and displacement. It is a collective responsibility to ensure that the "Giant of Africa" regains its strength and remains a beacon of hope for its citizens.

UBA has no right to reverse the transaction without the consent of the beneficiary . Visit a Court of law and explain details to them, they'll issue a Court Order compelling UBA to reverse the transaction. This way the reversal process can be fast tracked.
So sorry for your loss

I have also confirmed from a reliable person that truly the process has been cancelled.

I've always learnt to be submissive to the will of God. I meant there were times like these when I earnestly prayed for a way out and I never recieved a positive answer to my prayer only for God to answer me in a much bigger way after waiting on him.

Let's not give up guys! God who holds our future is alive and He'll make a way in times and places we have never imagined.

It is well.

Rubbish......which staffs are contracted to Huawei, stop saying rubbish. Huawei manages TX for Mtn, Airtel, 9Mobile. Stop saying nonsense

Agreed!
BSS/TX is managed by Huawei who inturn subcontracts to other SBC's who pay them peanuts in return!
Just check for yourself if these Telcos recruit all their BSS/TX staff directly, you know how many jobs will be created right? this is where Glo needs to be applauded.

I understand that the aspect of managed network operations, network performance management and spare parts management is handled by Huawei, the BSS/transmission guys that go to site to maintain those sites are majorly HUAWEI SBC staff.
but you can educate us more since you're an Insider.

MTN sacked many workers and nobody is saying anything about it.

The problem is the slavery Manning system we practice in Nigeria. In South Africa MTN recruit directly but here in Nigeria most of their staff are contracted to Huawei and others which gives room for such contractors to treat people the way they feel like.

Jobs/Vacancies / MTN Increases Staff Salaries By 17% by engrcalvin: 10:46am On Apr 07, 2021
MTN increased salaries in a year that was marred by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Nigeria’s largest mobile operator, MTN, increased the salaries of its staff in 2020 by about N4.5 billion according to findings by Nairametrics Research.
The telecom firm reported a total increase in its salaries and wages from about N25.79 billion in 2019 to about N30.2 billion in 2020, representing about 17% bump. On average, MTN paid N16.4 million per staff per annum in 2020 compared to N13.79 million per staff in 2019 representing an 18.9% increase. This is also because its headcount dropped by about 26 people.
A deep dive into its annual reports also reveals the salary increase was across the board for the year under review. Based on the increase, the least amount a staff earns is N3.5 million per annum from N2.5 million a year earlier.

Analysis of salary increases
• About 141 staff saw their salaries increase to above N3.5 million per annum in 2020.
• Another 260 staff were bumped to a salary scale of between above N7.5 and N8.5 million.
• Finally, another 158 employees were moved to a salary scale of above N12.5 million per annum, its highest pay bracket.
• In summary, a total of 599 employees received various levels of salary increases during the year.
Executive Directors of MTN also reported a pay raise from N586 million per annum in 2019 to N732 million in 2020. This is attributed to the appointment of Modupe Kadiri as Executive Director in March 2020.
Why this matters
The year 2020 was a peculiar year mostly due to the negative effects of Covid-19 which ravaged the finances of most corporations in Nigeria. At the height of the pandemic, some Nigerian companies resorted to downsizing and reduction of overheads as a strategy to maintain financial solvency. However, MTN’s salary increase is a huge departure from the norm.
• MTN reported a 15% increase in revenue (to N1.3 trillion) as Nigerians gobbled up data due to Covid-19 stay-at-home restrictions by the government and most private-sector corporations.
• MTN share price is down 6% year to date.

Travel / Why Do Many Nigerians Hate Using Pedestrian Bridges? by engrcalvin: 1:19pm On Mar 08, 2021
Hello Nairanders,

As we know, Pedestrian Bridges are structures built over roads that enables people to safely cross such roads without impeding the speed or movement of vehicular traffic. They are built for the safety of pedestrians.

Times without number I have watched as vehicles hit and kill people trying to cross the express even in places where these Bridges are found, why they chose to ignore available pedestrian bridges built for such purpose is what I find difficult trying to comprehend.

The attached video and photo is that of people ignoring a pedestrian bridge and crossing the busy Kubwa express way (@NNPC junction)in Abuja despite the risk involved in crossing that busy road at the peak of traffic.

What is the reason why you or most people ignore these pedestrian bridges despite the risk of been hit by a speeding vehicle?
