This is entirely my opinion though:
Your DS 160 form probably gets a rating after your submission. So technically, a VO already sees the rating the moment you hand your documents to him/her. It makes it easy for them hence the reason why they ask fewer questions during interview.
What i think can give you good ratings are:
Travel History, Strong home ties (No immediate family in the US), The University being the sponsor, 'No' on all the last questions on the form. And more.
While i understand many might fall short of the above features, it is not uncommon that people get approved with personal funding, no travel history and perhaps, with immediate family in the US. During the interview, you should confidently express yourself and prove to the VO why the degree is pertinent to the development of you and your country. Also, find a way to convince the VO you will be returning home almost immediately after your program.
Mustn't go without saying that students should do better when asked about their sponsors. 'my uncle is into real estate and fabrics'... Naa you dont want to say that. VOs have heard so many things like that and they know when students are being evasive. Speak confidently, explain how your sponsor makes his or her money, tell the VO how the market he/she is into is burgeoning and bringing more than enough money. Explain further in details what fraction of your COA is to the total amount in bank.
Lastly fill your form diligently as though you are answering a VO right infront of you. |

Predstan: There is nothing spiritual about life. The embassy and the approval is subjective. There is no God’s miracle here. There are people who have been there over 9 times within 9 years. They got it with persistence. So God loves you more than those people? Or the millions of people who cannot even afford to pay for GRE? You are better…
Oh it’s also God that helped people who faked Bank account, lied about their intentions and did all farcade just to get their visas and at the end attributes that to GOD?
I will never associate myself to a God who Graciously helped those that lied to get a visa and rejected those who are truthful in their application. Whatever rocks your boat gee. As for me and my household, we will owe everything to God. |

Predstan: He didn’t attacked or questioned his belief. He stated the obvious. Do the right thing before asking God. God doesn’t do miracles, He perfects your hardwork Quick question: you think those that got rejected didn't do the right thing? Brother, this life is Spiritual. Before you do that thing you conceive as right, ask God for direction. While doing it, do the same, after it, exhort his name with the faith that you will receive all you have diligently invested your effort in. And even when you recieve the news (favourable or not) still thank him. This life transcends logic (though i believe there are principles one can follow to reach the zenith. While many people do not follow through, i am certain not everyone that does reach the acme of actualization). if life were to be easy to logically dymstify, i doubt anyone here will have a faith too. So let everyone believe in whatever they want to. Selah. |

TWoods: Congrats on getting your visa. However you committed a few of my pet peeves…
1. Obtaining a visa is not “God in action”. It’s simply satisfying visa requirements.
2. What you “noticed” has been standard practice for decades. Nothing new. Leave the man to what he believes in. Your pet peeves for you and you alone, i doubt anyone cares. |

Joclins: Interview Slated for 10am but went 6am and got interviewed around 9am. The VO was denying so many B1/B2 and only gave just two people(One is a woman with her 2children and husband and she looks and sounds like she knows what she's doing). There were only few F1 VISA and I think I was the second or third F1 to be interviewed. VO was a white guy, looks like he's in his 30s. Has a skinny head and looks fresh. He's the only person available for all NON-Immigrant Visas that morning. He was at window 1. School: WIU COA: 33k DEFICIT: 26k SCHOLARSHIP: 7K FAMILY FUND: 43K Programme: Biochemistry (Bachelor) Interview was at Lagos.
VO: Good morning, pass your I-20 and passport please. Me: Passed and said I stammer a bit VO: It's fine, don't worry. VO: Why are you going to the US and what course will you be studying. Me: I'm going to the US for my bachelor's degree in Biochemistry. I will be majoring in Biochemistry at Western Illinois University. VO: Kept looking at my I-20 Me: I guess he was confused Chemistry was on my I-20 and I'm going for Biochemistry. So I cut in and said my school actually put the course on my I-20 as Chemistry, but it's Biochemistry I will be Majoring in. VO: Nods head like "okay, I understand now" VO: Why this School? Me: The biochemistry programme at Western Illinois University has an added concentration on Molecular diseases. The programme also provide undergraduate research opportunity for undergraduates which is an added advantage for me as I will be furthering my degree as a Clinical Scientist. VO: Was staring hard at my I-20 and said, this is about One hundred and something...(didn't hear clearly, but knew he was referring to my tuition or COA), who will be paying this huge amount of money for your Education. Me: I have a merit scholarship that covers about half my tuition and my mum will pay the rest. VO: What does your mum do? me Me: She owns a Private Primary School which she founded 15years ago. She also runs a Palm oil Plantation business...VO cuts in VO: What did you say... about Palm oil?(looks confused) Me: Palm oil Plantation business. I further explained with gestures that Palm trees grown in farm and harvested to produce palm oil....she supplies to the whole Western part of Nig...Vo cuts in VO: He was looking at his screen then asked; Do you have a sister in the US(or maybe he said outside the country)? Me: (I thought he was referring to my other siblings and that is a No. Although, I have an elder sister in another country, but she's never been to the US. I also filled in my DS-160 that I have other relatives in the US and that is my Dad's step sister, we bare thesame surname) So, I said No straight up. I was further saying I'm the last born...then cuts me and asked VO: Have you travelled outside the country before? Me: I've never had a reason to. VO: How many schools did you apply to? Me: I applied to four schools which includes Western Illinois University, Georgetown Southwestern University, University of Lynchburg, and Southern Illinois University and they all have me admission. VO: Sorry, you are not qualify for this Visa...passes blue slip and...Omo...I just felt so disorganized and felt like I had something to tell him that I can no more. Painful oh. I think you should have said you have no immediate relative in the US, however there is an Aunt of yours who currently resides in the US. All the VOs are checking out is to see if your confessions tally with your form. |

Chynwem: Please guys the person I sent to pay the Sevis fee for me, paid it yesterday and till now I have not gotten any email. I'm supposed to get an email immediately right? Often times you receive a fast payment acknowledgement when the person pays using Western Union. Any method of payment other than that takes three to five working days to effect payment. |

Education › Re: Where Did This Mathematics Go Wrong? by EngrKUNLE(m): 11:33am On Sep 24, 2021 |
Okay, may I?
Good use of indices but wrong mathematical division. The answer could as well be equals to 1 based on the supposed theorem followed in the pict:
10(10-10)/ 10(10-10) = 1... (wrong anyways)
However, this is wrong. 0 can not cancel out 0 to become 1 in arithmetic. its like 10 x 0/ 10 x 0, then say, 0 cancels 0 since they are identical. I put it to the writer that we can as well cancel out the tens and what we are left will still be 0/0. |

Travel › Re: Lagos Bans Trucks, Trailers On Roads In Day Time by EngrKUNLE(m): 10:04pm On Jan 28, 2021 |
so many assumptions made here. Before making an outright judgement, one needs to know the root cause of truck-related accidents, could it be due to faulty road geometric designs, traffic compliance, absence of traffic control signages and many more.
If it turned out to be any of those cause, moving alone at night is not a wise solution.
Also, what accommodation is in place for interstate truck drivers?. Are there places they could park their trucks during off-hours before continuing their journey in Lagos?
Another assumption made here is that traffic is low during night time, this is not always true. Now imagine peak traffic in the night with hundreds of truck sharing carriageways with you. A horrific experience that would be.
We should do more. |
