eay:I don't know anything about this group |
Learning so much from this project...didn't know snails had love darts |
Following:True...don't worry @following them go sweet die ![]() |
More Observations Soil They enjoy moist loamy soil...The soil should not be water logged or damp...It should just have enough moisture to make it a cool resting place... 3 of my snails sleep by digging into the soil at night...The 4th likes hanging from the top of their home Feeding I feed them every evening at 6pm, their appetite is quite high especially when they are about to lay...I noticed one was eating more than the others and was eating very noisily...only to discover it laid eggs some days later I have fed them 4 different foods in the last 7 days. Okro leaves, paw paw leaves and water melon. They enjoyed the red juicy part of the water melon more than the water melon skin...Their least favorite now are Okro leaves, they didn't eat it much...egg shells are the 4th feed given to them but I usually give it to them in addition to the normal food. They enjoy fresh meals |
OBSERVATIONS So I have had the snails for 7 days now and these are my observations 1. Snails are very good escape artists...as soon as I put them in their new home they tried all they could to escape (the reason I put some weight at the top ) 2. They do not need any encouragement to mate...after trying to escape the next thing was to mate...even before eating.... ![]() 3. On the 4th day I had eggs laid already... More will come later...need to tuck in my son |
annunaki2:Well as a process Engr I know 4 snails are not too small for the factors I'm looking at...as long as the operating conditions are the same, with 4 snails I can simulate what happens to 4 000 snails For this experiment i would be paying attention mainly to the types of food eaten by snails; their water requirements and prevention of pest attack. |
Basic information about the experimental Farm Start Date : 16/10/2016 Estimated End Date: 13/11/2016 Duration: 4 weeks Number of snails : 4 Specie : Achatina Fulica Housing : see picture below

I have been doing a lot of research online about snail farming...I have practically spent the last 3 months consuming as many information I could find on the subject matter. Well I saw both positive and negative information...so I decided to do a little experiment of my own. This experimental set up is to find out the basics needed in a real snail farm... I would be paying attention mainly to the types of food eaten by snails; their water requirements and prevention of pest attack. I hope to apply the information gathered on my farm visit (it is advisable to visit a real farm before setting up yours) before I setup my real farm later in the year |
