you recon?it is not, I have seen this happen, have you not seen people returning back from abroad to 9ja to marry after spending 20 years abroad?
I guess that's where those of us here with experience can give proper advice to those coming in, so they know what to expect and the best way to sort out their plans...nigerians need to mentor more nigerians and not want to just outshine each other...or show off how good their lives are...

We need to Use our experience to advice the new guys so they dont have to make the same mistakes all over again because Last last no first place for life

Hi @justwise and everyone

Thanks for contributing your views to the matter. We've obviously seen the spike in the number of people who want to relocate Abroad, especially as a result of so many many things going wrong in the country. It looks like Justwise might be a little out of touch with the current situation in Nigeria. The a.r.m.y is currently on a rampage in Oyo harrassing people for nothing, there have been reports of people getting killed in Rivers state and we saw what happened two weeks ago at Lekki. All of these things are worth leaving Nigeria over.

The PTSD alone is enough to give you worries. I hear any loud bang from my room and my first instinct is to move away from the window and probably find a safe spot. Serious fear upon seeing police officers/SARS because you know you are likely a victim of extortion, harassment or possibly death. Ah and yes, SARS has not ended. They are still on the streets harassing and extorting people.

There are a LOT of reasons for one to spend his last kobo on ESCAPING Nigeria. Yes, escape even if it means spending your last kobo. A lot of the folks I know who have graduated are all processing schools in the US because of this same situation.
One earns north of $1500 monthly but would rather go and spend 5 years to get a PhD. Tell me this same person would have 20k pounds lying somewhere and would not wake up the next day and land in the UK?

Today is not the day to talk about the SARS/Police brutality, or people who have been lost as a result of dysfunctional system.

A LOT of people would gladly pay if they had the money or collect loans to go for an MSC in the UK even if they do not know what is next after the MSC. It might be irrational but that's the situation where most Nigerians currently sit.
Na only us like to discourage our people from coming over...see Asians and other nationalities full everywhere without degrees sef...them still dey see work dey survive.

I tell everyone I know o, if you can get in legally, do you best to get in...no matter the type of work you do, as long as you are patient, have a plan and you are willing to work hard then you must make am...e fit rough at the start o but last last ground must level.

If you plan to come hit jackpot on your first year then stay naija but if you are looking for a better, calmer future for yourself and your kids and you know you can work hard and long for it then the possibilities are plenty

And such family will end up giving same abroad school fees amount or higher as ransome to kidnappers.

SARS killing people because they have good phone or dressed very well is true but the number of innocent ones are exaggerated and a lot of people including yahoo yahoo, kidnappers are using the same excuse.

Nigeria will not be better because SARS is gone.
Chairman! E clear say e don tey you connect naija...SARS are not really interested in making arrests, it's the money they are after, which means if the actually catch a guilty person, those ones will pay their way out without stress...naija was not better because of them, they were glorified armed robbers
TravelRe: Living In The Uk/life As A UK Immigrant by EngrSaks(m): 2:32pm On Nov 02, 2020
It is Better to borrow money to go settle in the uk and secure your future than borrow money to give sars or kidnappers o

How many Nigerian youths were killed because of that?

SARS is not even the major prob in Nigeria, hopefully SARS is gone for good but Nigerian prob is still alive and kicking
Very many youths have died or disappeared because of SARS o, but if SARS nor catch you, armed robbers or kidnappers fit catch you...or bad road or bad health care

I know how many family friends I know, I have been told have been kidnapped just this week and how many have been kidnapped in the last one year...naija go better but right now, naija hard in every sector

Canada dey too. He can just do a care job, amazon or retail job for the two years post study, save up and target Canada since he is studying IT.
Exactly...let him use the one year master to do some IT certifications in addition to the masters then with that he can get any entry IT job at graduation...2 years of at least two IT jobs with at least 2 more certifications will give him an IT job with tier 2...if that doesn't work, UK masters with 2 years experience will settle him in canada very well...life is all about taking calculated risks

Some sectors are affected with the covid thing but there are nigerians (outside the medical field) in the UK still changing jobs and getting higher paying jobs in this economy...

Life is all about sacrifice and putting in the time...

My advice for people coming in to study at this period is, come o but you must be ready to come for the right course (do proper research) and be ready for at least 3 years of sacrifice...dont expect any free lunch and be ready to take on 2/3 small roles after graduation so that you can get a big role down the line

The UK will be harder by the time you spent 20-30K in a year and end up jobless.. 9ja is not hard if you or your parents can afford to spend that much a year on foreign education.
Well there is also no guaranty they will be jobless...its a 50/50 chance worth taking. The negatives of Naija is not only about the poverty or lack of opportunities...it is also about the massive insecurity.

With the UK thing, you might not get a job you desire at first but you will definitely get something so it's a step worth taking...

I Personally believe people shouldn't be held back by the thoughts of not succeeding...if there is a chance of success then by all means go for it. If it doesn't work out as planned, then work out a solution around that circumstance...there's really no problem without a solution, we might not like the solution but there will always be one

University can only offer discount to a student who was promised inclass lectures then it turns out the opposite direction otherwise no they should not.
Do you know that many Nigerians have paid thousands in tuition fee deposit and still studying online from Nigeria while waiting for visa?
I mean.. how silly? The idea of travelling abroad for studies in this pandemic and economic free fall is a really bad one.

Tell them not to and you will be called enemy of progress
Well the school route is one of the easiest ways to get into the UK...I think most people are more interested in the 2 years post graduation bonus...naija is hard with increasing crime rates...so anybody who prefers the UK, who thinks they can get a head start with studying here and can afford to should take the chance o...

Hello House, Got into the UK about 2 weeks ago. Started processing for accommodation while in Nigeria. A friend in Coventry help us check out the house, lovely as seen on the internet, we paid the deposit, they began the processing, some days ago we were informed we got the house, then today was called back that the landlord rejected us. Wasted 3 whole weeks. Every house we see and like, we get responses like the landlord doesnt want students. We even offered to pay 6 months rent and there seem to be no available house. is there anyone in coventry that can advise? My Quarantine will be over by saturday and im just confused.
Welcome to the UK... residential landlords will hardly give their houses to students. How many are you precisely? If you are up to 5 then the landlord would need a licence to rent it out to you guys...so You need to look for a shared house or a house in multiple occupation (hmo)....you can search on spareroom.co.uk , www.rentaroom.biz or just google shared house Coventry (or the postcode you want)

Thank you for your response 2bed room should be fine. Thanks for your suggestions
Then rightmove or zoopla should help...just search with the first 3 letters of the postcode of the area you would love to stay....for example if you want to stay near Queen Alexandra Hospital just type on google "2 bedroom house to let in PO6"

Hello Fam,

I just came across this thread and I must say I'm glad.
I just moved to Portsmouth on tier 2 visa(4days ago) and I'm currently on quarantine.
I want to start looking for accommodation as my husband and daughter will be joining me next month end.
Please I would appreciate any help/referrals.
Welcome...what area are you looking to stay? Near the city centre? near a school? Near the high street? Near the hospital? What kind of house are your looking for? A room? 2 rooms? A bungalow, a terraced house? A semi detached or a country home? So many questions...you need to know what you want first then find the kind of house you want in the area you want...use the postcode of the area you want to search for a place...spare room for rooms and rightmove for houses...

You will find a decent amount of Nigerians in Portsmouth

Oh yes darling i am willing to spend it. But you know what the major problem is getting reference as I’m new to town . Thanks
Easy o, how about saving the posh money to buy a house instead...to carry money dash landlord isnt the best o.

Manchester has good areas with decent rents...its up to you to pick an area with things/wants like proximity to good schools or your place of work, shops, parking, gardens...as well as safety.

Hmmmm! Never heard of it in spouse visa application. You can ask any body
The catholic church gives two certificates on the day of your wedding...one paper church marriage certificate and a court marriage certificate accepted all over the world.

I think you should calm down so you can listen to advice from the right people...you are talking to too many people in your surroundings who sadly do not have the right info you need

your wife never talk the true story ............however if you feel you want to move to UK you can do it . Forget about that German language and find a traing school in nigeria that teaches cyber security or information technology and see if it something that would interest you . ANybody can learn anything you put your mind too. if you like it then do a masters within that IT space ........... that training in nigeria will give you a headsup into the program

Then come and do a masters with IT , meet her and it has to be one day at a time. if it doesnt work at least you done a masters in an area that has some job opportunity and you rebuild your life from there . if it works out then great .... you rebuild
I feel this is the best advice for your current state...plus the catholic church wedding comes with a registry certificate, so you should not need any additional marriage proof or registry wedding

I hesitate to drink tap water in London simply because of the leaky mains I have seen and the old piping works in buildings, which I cannot trust their integrity. It's a personal choice though.
Yeah those could affect but generally if the water is odourless, colourless and without particles then it's really not bad.

Leaky mains should be reported to the water company though

Lol, to balance the equation maybe you should use do pH test on your next bottled water like you did a scaling test on tap water
