Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has said that 80 per cent of revenues meant for projects in the Niger Delta region always end up in private bank accounts. According to Punch Newspaper, the South-South Zonal Head of EFCC, Mr. Nnaghe Itam, also stated that a large percentage of projects captured in the budgets of some states in the oil-rich region were either not implemented or abandoned due to corruption. Itam explained that corruption had remained the primary cause of underdevelopment in the region and even in Nigeria. He spoke at a stakeholders’ regional conference organised in Port Harcourt by Social Action, a non-governmental organisation, in collaboration with the African Centre for Media and Literacy and the MacArthur Foundation. The agency’s zonal head pointed out that to achieve any meaningful development in Nigeria, corruption must be defeated. “As a commission, the passion of the Acting Chairman (of the EFCC), Mr. Ibrahim Magu, is to get rid of corruption in all its ramifications if any meaningful progress or development is to be achieved in Nigeria. “Estimates of up to 80 per cent of government revenues and budget allocations end up in private bank accounts of approximately one per cent of Nigerians, who are linked to political power. “As high as 80 per cent of projects mentioned in annual state budgets within the region are either abandoned or never implemented,” Itam said. The EFCC head maintained that the commission was intensifying efforts in advocating continuity of projects by successive governments. In her remarks, the Director of Programmes, Social Action, Mrs. Vivian Bellonwu-Okafor, stated that though over N7tn had accrued to states in the Niger Delta between 1999 and 2016, not much infrastructural development was on the ground. She identified corruption, through reckless management of resources, as a major problem affecting the development of the Niger Delta region. “Records have it that over N7tn accrued to the states and local governments in the nine Niger Delta states in 18 years from 1999 to 2016, based on the 13 per cent derivation principle. “We, therefore, believe that the more significant problem of the region has not been primarily lack of resources, but rather lack of proper management or outright recklessness in the manner of deployment and management of these resources,” she said. Bellonwu-Okafor said the purpose of the conference was to promote accountability in creating awareness on mismanagement of public funds by government officials. “Our 2017 Citizens’ Report on budgets of selected states in Nigeria with a particular focus on the Niger Delta region, titled ‘Abandoned Projects’, reveals a continuation of a pattern of very low capital expenditure performances noticed over the years, despite the increasing level of Nigeria’s foreign reserves. “The EFCC in June 2018 had promised to visit the Niger Delta region to investigate abandoned Niger Delta Development Commission projects, prosecute those responsible and recover the public funds embezzled in the process,” she added. A two-headed calf has stunned locals in an Indian village after it defied the odds to survive for over a month. It has two heads with a total of three eyes, two snouts but only a pair of ears and a single mouth. Source:https://web.facebook.com/Enn214/posts/2428338277392982? Lalasticlala

Catholics today, led by the Archbishop of Lagos - Adewale Martins, gathered @ CKC Akowonjo, Lagos to celebrate the 400th Anniversary Of Vincentian Charism. This comprises the charity arm of the church - Saint Vincent De Paul Society, Daughters of Charity, & others... About 40 awards were given out to some of their 'sponsors' including a bank....but....... .....i noticed something shocking & i've been wondering what the society's excos were up to when a VERY BOLD ERROR was made on the award plaques, as ''VINCENTIAN' was spelt ''VICENTIAN'' on all the award plaques presented by the Archbishop of Lagos. Its very shameful! I need a witness pls! Lalasticlala, Seun, |

The very fact that the concept of time is a parameter created by human beings is evident when some people grow old at 18 while others stay young even at the ripe old age of 90. There is a special kind of person in our world who finds himself alone and isolated, almost since birth. His solitary existence isn’t from a preference or an antisocial temperament – he is simply old. Old in heart, old in mind and old in soul, this person is an old soul who finds his outlook on life vastly different and more matured than those around him. As a result, the old soul lives his life internally, walking his own solitary path while the rest around him flock to follow another. Old souls are those who have reincarnated many times and have lived many different lives. They are different than the younger souls who might’ve been born for the first time. Old souls have their own habits, attitudes and lifestyles that reflect on their old hearts. These are the common traits which can be found in the old souls: 1 Spending time alone Old souls love to spend time alone. They lean towards introversion more than the young souls because they find inner strength and peace in solitude. As a result, they do not engage in activities like partying or clubbing which can make them seem boring to others. 2. People magnet Old souls seem to attract people because of their wise and humorous nature. They are highly emphatic people with lots of positive energy. This positive energy could make them easy targets for energy vampires. Prolonged social interaction could make them feel emotionally drained. Old souls should avoid too much socializing in order to safeguard their energy. 3. Loners They do not like to engage with too many people or groups of people. Old souls prefer to build meaningful relationships by one on one interaction. Their circle is a small closely knitted one. They might seem as loners to others but this is how they like things to be. It also prevents the draining of their emotional energy. 4. They are forgiving Old souls tend to forgive people easily because they find no meaning in holding grudges. They are aware of the connectedness of the universe and all the souls within. They believe in love and forgiveness rather than vengeance and enmity. By practicing forgiveness they also set an example for the younger souls. 5. Nice, easy going people All the above qualities have painted a picture of a nice, kind, easy going person. Old souls do not behave like stuck-up people… they believe in having a good time with their people. At times this could also serve as a disadvantage because people might trick them or take advantage of their politeness. They are not dominating; neither do they seek control over anyone. It is easy to get comfortable around an old soul. 6. Decision-making abilities Old souls rely on their intuition when it comes to making decisions. They do not simply do what logic dictates. Their intuitive ability has grown sharp over the years and they employ it to their best use. They can sense if the road ahead is difficult as they continue on the journey of life. There are many differences between an old soul and a young soul but all should be treated with kindness and respect. All souls are important in the larger scheme of the universe. **COPIED* |
