Phones / Re: My Bro Was Charged 1.4million To Clear Iphone 15 & I-watch From DHL Ikeja by Entanglement: 12:16am On Mar 20
Alphamentips:
**This post is for only those who have had the experience and can advise better***
Don't comment ANYTHING if you have no progressive input to make.

So my bro's iphone 15 entered Ikeja Int'l Airport and it has been seized by 'Customs' and now 'NDLEA' according to them.

They are asking for N1.4meter as clearance fee.
And i'm confused as why? He even went ahead (before reporting the case to me) to contract another customs officer who doesn't work at the airport and has already paid the sum of 800k yet the phone isn't cleared and the contracted customs officer is asking him to pay #100k extra to top up the money.

I'm mad because I've told him b4 now to always use a 3rd party shipping company when importing device or give to friends who are returning from US or CA to bring in while coming back but him no dey too get patience.

>>> NOTE: He has already sent all documents DHL guys asked for including- purchase receipts and every other evidence to show it is legit purchase.

So here are my questions:

My first question is this: Is this an illegal operation because I am willing to take it up with the so called Customs & DHL guys by reporting this to the Lagos State Task Force office. If yes, how do i go about reporting this issue?

I already suggested he contacts the Human Right Activist, Harrison Gwanishnu on IG for help as it clearly feels like a ripoff!

2ndly, is there a procedure to reporting fraud in public offices that will ensure that you get justice?

3rdly, isn't import duties charged based on the weight of the item imported as against the value of the item?
4thly, what is the safest way of importing phones to avoid such issues as this is the 2nd time this is happening.

I suggested asking the shipping company to send it back to US but he'll have to pay like 600k according to the those crooks at the DHL office..

Omo! I just tire

Food / Re: Look At The Spring Onion I Just Bought For ₦500 In Zaria, Kaduna State by Entanglement: 5:39pm On Mar 15
hazureal:
Those are not spring onions. They are regular onion sprouts.
Spring onions have slim and white bulbs/roots, the leaves store for longer and have distinct flavor/aroma.
A Mallam sold those onion sprouts to me last week for N200 and I was so happy. I then met another Mallam I usually buy salad ingredients from, on my way home.
I bought some more spring onions from him, telling him that I already bought, but I just needed a little more.
Immediately I showed him what I already bought, he burst out laughing and told me to go cook with the two and check the difference (he even added extra for me, out of pity 🤣).

Before I proceed, I want to add that my opinion is subjective and based on the following comparative analysis:

1. You’re traveling to Vietnam strictly to teach ESL or as a digital nomad.

Vs.

2. Traveling to the UK or Canada as a post graduate student to study and work.

Why I’m making this comparative analysis is because I was passionate about traveling to Canada for post graduate study as my Japa escape route until their government made significant changes to their policies. I had already applied to a school and paid for my transcript. However, when I made calculations and realized I could end up having to ramp up to 25 to 30 million just for a post graduate study in Canada, I immediately began to rethink my plans. Worse still, disturbing news began to emanate from Canada about post graduate students not being able to get any job at all (even low grade ones like flipping bugger) after six months of arriving! Some were battling depression as their BTA ran low.

Meanwhile, I have been considering teaching ESL in South East Asia before now. So, I decided to make it my first choice instead of Canada.

I applied to an international TEFL academy based in the United States & they linked me up with their affiliate partner in Vietnam. After completing the prerequisites in terms of payment and other requirements, the proprietor of the affiliate school in Vietnam scheduled a zoom video meeting with me. During the meeting, he was blunt and honest with me. He told me it wasn’t going to be easy to secure a good job after the training considering that first, I was black and secondly, I was holding a Nigerian passport. However, he was promising me that he will move mountains & do all within his power to assist me & ensure I become successful. He was so impressed that I could pay around $2000 for a one month certification inclusive of accommodation, despite coming from a low income country like Nigeria. His words of encouragement inspired me because along the line, I kept having second thoughts on what ifs— a married man with wife and kids can’t afford to make mistakes!

When I arrived at the school in Ho Chi Minh City, I realized that out of 11 trainees in my set, I was the only one from Africa and the only black as well. The rest were from United States, UK, and Australia, then one from neighboring Philippines and a Vietnamese whose husband owned a language school & needed her to get a certification. We were all lodged in a service apartment for one month, then training commenced…

Family / Re: Nigerian Wife Kicks UK Husband Out From Home by Entanglement: 9:06pm On Mar 06
GistMedia0:
A Nigerian woman called social workers to chase her husband out of their home, citing alleged maltreatment. The couple's argument quickly escalated as each side presented their grievances, shedding light on a complex situation.

The husband, whose identity remains undisclosed, fired back at his wife's claims by revealing he had spent a staggering £24,000 on her school fees from the beginning to the end of her education. Additionally, he highlighted that he was the one paying for the house they lived in, making her request for him to leave all the more bewildering.

In a heated exchange, the woman retorted, "I no born children for you?" This remark struck a nerve as it came to light that she was the one keeping their children while simultaneously asking him to vacate the premises.

This is where Moses has the market, popularity and influence. It's just like someone telling Davido, Burna Boy or WizKid to relocate to America. They will never do that.

So, if that lady drags him to the UK and she's earning more than him, I don't see how that marriage will last. Those Western people are not raised with the "for better, for worse" ideals.

The babe will just file for a divorce. I don't want to believe he just married her just for some silly British citizenship.

Marriages fail when people make hasty decisions without considering the consequences. I hope this guy is making the right call because I don't think she will agree to live in Nigeria with him. To marry these kinds of ladies is one thing and getting them to live in a shithole country like Nigeria is another.

I remember how IK Ogbonna married that stunning Sonia Morales. After having a cutie with the guy, Sonia divorced him because she couldn't cope with mosquitos and epileptic power supply in Nigeria. As a foreigner, it takes a lot of guts and sacrifices to live and survive in Nigeria.

There's a reason Igbo men abroad marry Nigerian wives after marrying foreigners; those people cannot live in Nigeria! As far as I am concerned, Nigerian ladies have no substitutes! You can get any kind of lady in Nigeria...even those as beautiful as mermaids!

Congratulations to them! I wish them the best of luck!
