Top 4-6 this season, same next season and one of the cups.
We're on course to achieving top 6 already. All we needed to do was to stop conceding some of those easily avoidable goals that were against the run of play. Those goals that stopped us from winning against the likes of Wolves, Burnley etc

So, are you saying that we won’t achieve anything with this set of players, even if we get a better manager?
What's your definition of anything? What's your minimum expectation?

I never said a CM is not priority. I only pointed out another sore point that should be taken seriously, despite spending 62m to strengthen the same department barely 7 months ago

If you look at the antecedents on this thread, it appears our "needs" are dynamic and always changing grin

I remember when the general consensus here was that the addition of wingbacks was the immediate solution to Amorim's problems. How has that panned out? Was it not afterwards the talk changed to midfield?

Remember when Onana was pinpointed as the cause of the leaky defence. People swore that we would be keeping clean sheets once we sign a new goalkeeper. How are we travelling with that now?

Whoever it is that is in charge needs to assess the team holistically and properly before making decisions that should be devoid of sentimental opinions of fans.

Till then, the manager has to make the most out of the season - we can still have a decent finish
Who were the wingbacks added?

He’ll also tell him to “play the yoots.”

As if other teams are relying heavily on their academy to win games.
Fletcher last interview, he was singing the song the owners will love to hear. How the United DNA is all about the academy and wanting to look inwards. I just laughed because he will be sacked very soon if he tries that as the manager

Quick question for you? Is our squad worse than those of Wolves, Burnley and Nottingham Forest? Why are we not beating the small clubs?
We don't have that many players that are better than some of the players in these teams. I can easily list 5-7 of our players that are not all that. There's a reason why top teams want to have the best players possible in every position.

There's also the matter of mentality, fitness, strength and determination to fight for every ball and cover a lot of ground

If 2 out of 4 turns out good, we’ll be fine.

Instead, we buy 1, and heap pressure on them to turn good by force by fire.

Heard that Dorgu wasn’t fought to be an instant starter. Same with Lammens. But because we were so depleted in player resources , they had to be thrown into the deep end.

Why didn’t Shaw play today? If the reason for his absence is logical, why don’t we have another option for that position that is better than Dorgu? One injury to Shaw now and we’ll have to suffer at the hands of Dorgu.
When I saw Fletcher talking about the club DNA and how they want to look inwards, I just knew we're not leaving the trenches soon. Even city spend good money on players every year

Nice soundbite but you and I know that's not true.

Anyways we move. City next. Amad and Mbeumo back. Looks like Ole is coming back.
Walai it's true but no need to dwell on that.

We could get a win or a draw and everyone will think we're back. Then we lose or draw the next small team we face. That's why I'm never particular or interested in the results against big teams. They don't tell the true story. I'll know we're back when we start destroying the smaller teams

Undue diligence, you mean. He never calls out the owners for anything. The coach is always at fault with him.

He even said Dalot played well today after that toad missed 3 clear cut chances.
Any coach that wants to be successful in terms of trophy and league domination should avoid people like nitrogen. He will expect you to perform miracles with the likes of Dalot and Ugarte

This, and hopefully we are lucky with manager appointment to ensure we can use well whatever resources we have or acquire. This is key. A bad McTom was a beast under Mou and is doing well under Conte.

He had Maguire in front of him to pass the ball to.

Malacia should be given an opportunity too, let Dorgu know his place in the starting 11 is not guaranteed.
Maguire should be in the 18 expecting crosses. He can't cross the ball so what was he doing there?

Meanwhile I've not heard anything about this match being at old Trafford

Any manager who knows what he is doing would not sit back and watch his employers change the terms of a contract midway through his engagement.

In Amorim’s case, however, he is not without blame. We expected the club to move on from the likes of Shaw, Mount, Casemiro, Maguire, and others who were either not good enough or too injury-prone. Instead, Amorim came in and immediately took to Mount like a father to a son, constantly reminding us that Mount is a manager’s delight. The same Amorim made Dalot one of the team leaders and a guaranteed starter. So, who exactly is to be blamed?
When we received a very good offer for Bruno, Amorim was quoted by Bruno as saying he wanted him to stay at the club, which was one of the factors that convinced Bruno to reject a move to Saudi Arabia.

What about Maguire and Casemiro? It was still Amorim who pushed for their continued retention.
Now I ask: how exactly do you expect us to keep these players on high wages and still go on to spend money on new players? Take our defence, for instance. We have Maguire, De Ligt, Licha, Heaven, Yoro, and Shaw, all capable of playing at centre-back. That is five to six players for the CB position, even though we are not participating in any European competition.

The same thing would have happened in midfield if we had signed additional players to add to the ones we already have. Mainoo hardly got a look in, yet Amorim blocked his exit from the club. I now understand why the board were keen to relegate him from manager to head coach, but he believed he was good enough to be the manager rather than just a head coach.
I don't think his contract was changed. He just overestimated our pull in the transfer window.

By the way, there is no way we were going to let go of these many players in one transfer window. Just look out how many we let go already, and how many came in.

I don't understand some posts here.

I am certain that 90% of fans here wanted us to strengthen the midfield. TrebleChamp and I pushed for Amorim should speak out if the board failed to bring in a midfielder or two, but he came out to praise the midfielders he had. In fact, instead of moving some of them on, he decided to keep them. Whose fault is it? Amorim got here and started singing the praises of Mount, a player who finally let him down at a very crucial stage.

Even when we moved for a midfielder, the price was outrageous. It was here that a lot of folks barked at the price, but now y'all are asking why the board didn't sign a midfielder. Should we have paid the asking price for Baleba or sold the midfielders we had against the wishes of Amorim to fund new purchases in midfield?

If we had sold Bruno and let Casemiro leave to get new midfielders, I am sure you guys would still blame the board for it...
He was sacked when he spoke up, and not because of poor results. i guess he should have spoken up last summer and gotten the sack before the season even started

Even when the team is complete, it's still not good enough to introduce a youngster unless it's a generational player. I don't even think the player will survive the criticism because there is a lot, thanks to the coach. We can't afford to have a player that is trying to find their feet. We already have enough of them that we paid good money for
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by eph12(m): 8:19am On Dec 31, 2025
People are crashing out because of those youngsters. We don't have an extraordinary winger that can take on players in the academy or a midfielder that can hold on the ball and skip through challenges before releasing a forward pass. What were they expecting to see? The youngsters we have must be played in a stable team, not a team that has lost almost half of its best players to injury or international competition. You can't expect the youngsters to just come in and take over like that. I don't even think they're blowing away their peers in u21 competition
