Origamist:

Dangote is giving out this cheque of over N50 million to 220 victims who are both Yoruba and Hausa.”
http://leadership.ng/2017/07/11/dangote-foundation-donates-n50m-victims-yoruba-hausa-clash-ile-ife/

He's at liberty to give to only Hausas though.
Ooni of Ife and other Yoruba leaders should be the ones to help their kinsmen.

I just read the link, thanks for providing it. Re: providing the funds to all affected victims, that's the sensible thing to do, and I'm glad to see that's what's been done. It really should be the state government's responsibility but governments do partner with individuals, particularly business owners. So end of story. I'm satisfied with the outcome.

She stated that Dangote Foundation has been active in communal clashes before, and we will continue to intervene in such situation. “We have identified the victims with the team from the Ooni of Ife and the Hausa community and we are giving out N50 million to 220 victims. The amount varies between N200,000 to N2.4 million, but it depend of loses of each person,” she said.

Alright, then that is the duty of Ooni of Ife meanwhile the one severally affected was first compensated and was done by their brother.

I know where you are driving at eph cool

I hear you. Not my concern anyway tongue was only giving my view. If they like, they should empower one group to the detriment of another, the results will speak for themselves.

So? I guess you didn't see where I wrote that is the "right thing", meaning regardless of the source of the money.

Babe, I travelled to Ife two weeks ago and the level of damage done by the Ife youths on hausa properties is damn huge but on the yoruba part, the damage is very meagre. Btw Dangote gave his brothers money, that one no concern Ife people but the thing is normal activities has returned to ife town, Hausa and Yoruba dey collabo as if nothing happen sef. Life is too short to be holding grudges for long and that does not mean one should be complacent.

This is not about holding grudges. This is about justice. Both sides suffered losses, whether meagre or otherwise, so both sides should be supported to rebuild their communities and lost businesses. That is the right thing.

So, back to the topic. Shouldn't the compensation be given to all the parties affected? That should be the right thing in my opinion.

The good thing is different people are beginning to speak up now, such as the Middle Belt thread on FP.

Read the post very well. It says nothing about Arabic studies because Arabic studies is not a religion but a language. It is still an alternative to French another international language.

Yes, we don hear. That line has already been duly thrashed on another thread.

You ve said everything

You can see most of them trying to twist it now saying "it's not Buhari's policy"

Same group of people who dragged earlier threads to over 13 pages justifying the policy saying arabic is the most spoken language in Africa, so why shouldn't it be mandatory in Nigeria, blah blah blah. Their evil plans will continue to never bear fruit. Hypocritical Mofos.

Maybe I am wrong with my interpretation, I stand to be corrected though, but I don't think that what the house of reps did changes the fact that Arabic would be made compulsory for some people who sincerely wouldn't wish to offer it.
The house of reps only brought
back Islamic Studies and CRK as single subjects out of the Civic Education they were merged into before, but Arabic studies would still continue because Arabic is made compulsory if u can't offer French, the option. Same way French is made compulsory if u can't offer Arabic.
Both of us know how scarce French senior secondary school teachers are in Nigeria, which would mean that most of these students would have to settle for Arabic.

I think with CRK being back on the table, the non-muslim students can choose it as the option to complete the minimum number of subjects.

Either way, I'm sure more details will emerge in the coming days.

The members agreed that students with the inputs of their parents at formative years should be taught the religious subjects of their choice in school. Essentially, the House while pointing out that the policy makers erred ab initio also agreed Islamic Studies and CRK should be taught independently and separately in the spirit of the constitution.

Exactly.

Those who want to learn arabic can proceed to do so. Their lives, their business. At least now, students will have the choice to decide WHAT they want to study.

Again, great news.

Nairaland like other social media outlets would have been a great platform to interact, connect and if possible develop lasting friendship that might lead to consummation of a good matrimony offline but when you read some posters messages and try to marry it to what you think they look like in real life, you will rather prefer to end it online and remain anonymous, when I receive a PM, l scan the senders past post, and I see a lot of redflags and instanta I decline, so I will continue to remain anonymous until I am convinced beyond reasonable doubt to accept a PM or alternatively l will allow my olokpa friend to do the screening once he is back from North Korea grin

grin grin Please say hello to him, and tell him to take his North Korea training seriously as many people here need that cane and serious flogging, lol!

Yeah, people's past posts usually says a lot.

l agree with you but again, I wonder why someone will bring his private family stuff online, I am an advocate of kiss and keep quiet, or in our local parlance called chop and clean mouth, it is too childish to bring a private, family or intimate stuff between two
consenting adults online as a way of getting back to your offender, Na wao sad

There must have been more to it. Reminds me of the coogar vs babe case too, I don't know why these things keep coming up over and over again. Don't people learn? Why get involved in such in the first place?

You see why that is the best way to deal with most Nairaland folks! tongue
