Buhari's leadership skills are very poor. Combine this with his inherent bigotry = recipe for disaster. He apparently doesn't carry people along. He has failed to realize he cannot rule alone. You need people to succeed.
This guy is becoming the worst decision Nigerians have made in a long long while. |
Family › Re: My Friend Is Cheating On His Wife, Putting Me In A Tight Situation by ephi123(f): 12:49pm On Nov 14, 2016 |
SmartyPants: yes, and thus it should follow that such a man would not need a convenient excuse to cheat, since according to you he is an inherent cheat and will cheat regardless? but the man in question has not been cheating on his wife all along which indicates that he is reacting to circumstance, as opposed to taking advantage of it. So he is an incidental cheat, not an inherent one, and his wife could manage his incidental weakness by eradicating any possibility of such incidence, simply by making herself available.
but if you still argue that an inherent cheat does need an opportunity to cheat, then a lady married to an inherent cheat should take steps to deprive him of the convenience to cheat. Thus he may remain a cheat at heart, but he would not be able to exercise his nature.
Either way, the woman has the power to control her husband, if a "convenient excuse" is the trigger for cheating. That particular comment was not referring to this case but to your statement of a man who lacks self-control and integrity. And I maintain such a person will cheat regardless. Why should a woman be the one responsible for her husband's decision to cheat or not cheat. It is very unfair that a man who should be leader and head of the house will need his wife to exercise control over him not to cheat! Is he a puppet? Is she a super power? In any case we can see that does not even work, cos if it did, we would have many more faithful married men in Nigeria. Ultimately, it is the man's decision. |

Bollinger: Not when it comes to marriages. It is the reason you must know your partner before marriage. It's their life and their decision to marry. Not yours. Hmmm, I don't think I agree with you on the line above. Even people who are not married can sometimes give wise advice, wisdom is not bestowed automatically when a person gets married. The rest of your comment, I fully agree about knowing who you are marrying. |

SmartyPants: You are somehow contradicting yourself. If you say a man who would cheat, will always cheat, then he would surely cheat with or without "a convenient excuse".
Since according to the OP, this behavior started only when the "convenient excuse" presented itself, it still boils down to exactly what i said before:
If you know your man has such a weakness, then do not give him the "convenient excuse" that he needs to indulge himself.
cc tintingz There is no contradiction there. I was following on from your comment of a man who has no self-control and integrity, if those two things are missing in a man's character, then he will cheat whether his wife is present or not. |

Bollinger: You are not married are you? And i think pretty young too. You just don't know do you? It's her/his opinion. Everyone is entitled to what they think whether married, young, old or not. OP, The bigger issue here is the risk of him infecting his wife with an incurable disease. |

SmartyPants: I have to agree with you.
DarkRebel101 and the others:
As a man i cannot cheat on my wife (when i will have one) but to pretend that men are not the way men generally are will not help matters.
i remember one day my christian boss who goes to church twice a week, and dotes on his family, called me into his office and asked me "SmartyPants, is it wrong if i keep a girlfriend because my wife is not around" i was literally dumbfounded...i had no clue how to answer because on the one hand he and i both knew the answer but on the other, i knew exactly what sort of pressure he must have been facing.
The average man easily falls emotionally and sexually when lonely, and considers it a right to have sexual intercourse. Can you change that?? Unless you want to say you have found some brilliant technique for making people do the right thing against their wishes, then if the misbehavior of another person will affect you, then you yourself must do what you gotta do to survive. To reason otherwise could be compared to saying, people should not commit armed robbery, therefore i will not secure mysefl and my property. When you get robbed are you not secondarily to blame?
I'm not directly blaming the lady here as clearly her husband lacks self control and integrity, but what i am saying is that if you know that your husband lacks self control and integrity and you also care about your marriage, then you should do your best to not allow him the exposure that may bring out the worst in him. If he lacks self control and integrity, he will still cheat even right under her nose. Her travelling is simply a convenient excuse. |

vodutive:
it is difficult to have an intelligent conversation with people who are fixated on emotion. You are so obsessed with the emotion (monopoly) that you fail to get the point, that we have a mentality problem in this country.
I ask you a few questions?
1) why is it Nigerian businesses do not survive generations?
2) Why is it after years of buying and selling, importing and exporting, Nigerians cannot build their own supermarket chain and they have to wait for foreigners, abi that one is govt patronage or monopoly too?
3) why are you not complaining that our big supermarkets are dominated by Shoprite and Spar?
4) How many Nigerian made products do you see on the shelves of these supermarkets? Do you really think they are working for the interests of Nigeria or using the supermarkets as a market for manufactured goods in their countries?
5) Do you not realise that these companies import htese products using our forex and export their profits again using our forex? so do you not realsie that it is better for an industry to be dominated by a Nigerian company that a foreign company because local companies do not send their profits abroad. Why is Arik still around when others are leaving?
6) you are complaing about Dangote, why are you not complaining that the Vaswani and Chaugouris that dominate so much of your economy but don't live here, they take all your money and spend it Dubai and L.A respectively? Please take some time to google these people and find out how much of your economy is controlled by them quietly. Mr intelligent, why did you carry on typing. Your arrogance is quite nauseating. You can keep on typing your epistles. It will not change the fact that economies all over the world have proven time and time again that monopoly is not to the interest of the common man. That all the anomalies you listed are happening does not make monopoly right. Several wrongs cannot justify another wrong. The topic of discussion here is monoploy. Those foreigners controlling the economy - who gives them the free for all and let's them get away with it? Who? Anyway, I would rather use my time on other productive things today. Good luck to you with whatever reply you come up with, I'm not spending my time replying you. |

obailala: "Great men become great while others sleep"
The point is that everyone had an opportunity and one person was able to convert his opportunity to greatness. Now people beaf him for being 'too successful' and being a monopolist and these people wish him being pulled down to the level of others for the sake of 'equality'. I wouldn't even know whether hate or envy is the right word to describe this mentality.
The main question however is, where were others while this man rose to his present level?.... Some claim he receives govt backing? .. is he the only one who receives govt backing?.... Businessmen the world over lobby govts for 'backing,' Nigeria isnt an exception and Dangote isnt the only one. So my question remains, "what did other businessmen do with their own govr backing?" You obviously do not get the point at all. Businesses should be encouraged to grow and flourish via equal opportunities, rather than a singular individual allowed to create a monopoly in several sectors. I'm not even sure you understand the risk and implication of such. In normal sane countries, competition is encouraged and they put in place laws to ensure this - anti-competition rules exist for that reason, but here you are justifying monopoly. I couldn't care if this was someone else and not Dangote, I would say exactly the same thing. A country can never be successful on the back of a SINGLE individual. Never. And it is never to the advantage of the citizens to have monopolies. |

I feel very irritated when I see the sheer level of envy/jealousy, hate and pull-him-down mentality people express towards Dangote for daring to be a genius and a patriot.
Dangote in a couple of years now would be the sole saviour of Nigeria's economy with his businesses. You keep hearing people say things like 'monopoly' and that he earned or through govt favoritism. But the question I always ask is, how come it is only Dangote who enjoys this favoritism from every successive Nigerian govt irrespective of tribe/region?... Is Dangote the only one who has enjoyed govt patronage?... where were other businessmen were when Dangote was rising to the top?... what did other business men do with their own govt patronage?... Probably they mostly prefered going into the oil business, specifically the importation of fuel and fraudulently cornering billions in subsidies to the destruction of Nigeria yet some bad-belle Nigerians int the typical pull-him-down mentality are angry with Dangote's progress. Rather than focus on having several successful businesses and businessmen/women in the country, continue hinging the nation's success on a single individual. Everything is hate to you guys, hate indeed. |

But you are one of the worlds top consumers of Champagne!!! Thank God we have Dangote, a man who doesn't think like the typical Nigerian because if not for him, Naira will be N5000 to a dollar within 3 years. Make no mistake about it, the only thing that will save the Naira is that Dangote had the foresight to start building a refinery before Oil collapsed. That refinery when it comes on stream will reduce the need to import fuel which is the biggest drain on our foreign reserves. Instead in typical Nigerian fashiopn you are green with envy!!! you would rather an Indian, Lebanese or Oyinbo controlled your economy. free yourself from your slave mentality.
Nigeria and Brazil started their defense industries at the same time in 1960, today ours has collapsed and we are going to Brazil begging to buy ammunition to defend ourselves. Nobody is stopping you from starting your own, infact the govt in encouraging locals by giving Innoson contracts for army spare parts. Tomorrow if a Nigerian starts a defense manufacturing company and corners army contracts because there is nobody else , people like you will start complaining, you would rather we be slaves to the west and foreign powers than see a fellow Nigerian rewarded for taking risks.
The problem with Nigeria are people like you who unfortunately are the majority!!! With all the epistle you wrote, you are the one supporting a monopolist, yet the irony is lost on you unfortunately. |

just asking!
You call him a rent seeker? I call him a man who has taken advantage of the opportunities created by a Nigerian population that refuse to see the opportunities in their own country. If Dangote goes on to own all the factories and industries in Nigeria, it's because Nigerians only have themselves to blame, they would rather be traders than industrialists. Yes, yes, let Nigerians take the blame as always. Did Nigerians benefit from selfish policies resulting in an individual running a monopolist system in several sectors? NO!
