Speculations of a comeback of the two music heavyweights surfaced across news platforms few weeks ago. The reports were further fueled after iconic pop act, 2face Idibia pleaded for a comeback during his Fortyfied All Star Music concert that had the duo in attendance.

Celebrities / Nollywood: Top Actor, Aki Reveals His Greatest Regret by Erave: 10:51am On Oct 05, 2015
Popular Nollywood actor, Chinedu Ikedieze, better known as Aki, has lifted the lids on his greatest regret.

The pint-sized actor who shot into prominence a decade ago revealed in a recent interview his regret of not having a second Masters Degree and his Ph.D.

In his words, “aside obtaining my first degree in mass communication at The Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu, I had the opportunity to go to New York Film Academy in 2004. I did film acting, it is like a certificate programme and I have learnt over the years on the job too.”

“By now, the way I had it in mind when I finished school, I should have had my second Master’s degree if not Ph.D. Each time I think along that line, other things come to mind and I am not happy about that. When you see me again, I might just be finishing a particular course,” he added.

Celebrities / Segun Arinze: I Wish I Had My Kids From One Woman by Erave: 6:29pm On Oct 02, 2015
Known for his exemplary roles in Nollywood films, Segun Arinze Aina is one of the foremost Nigerian actors who have remained a household name. A consummate actor, singer and a voice over artist, Segun was the former president of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN).

The award winning thespian recently had a chat with ERAVE where he talked about clocking the milestone age of 50, the crisis that has plagued the AGN and other sundry issues.

You just clock 50 years, how does this make you feel?

No, it doesn’t change anything. Age is only a number and I am happy to join the league of entertainers and other influential Nigerians who have attained the same age. There is no difference whatsoever but I only have to thank God for giving me an opportunity to be 50. It is no child’s play considering those we grew up together or even spent out youthful years with. Many are alive while others have gone to the great beyond.

Will attaining 50 make you take more relaxed roles?

I have a lot of things I do and some others I am about to start work on. So clocking 50 has nothing to do with me resting on my oars. I think what only matters is the inspiration those around you and the next generation draw from what you lay hands on. The way I see it is that, it is pertinent for individuals to work towards setting proper standards and lay a good foundation for others to tap into. That is what I think people should reflect on always.

You fathered kids from different women. Do you sometime wish or would it have given you more joy if they had come from one woman?

Yes of course but I wouldn’t want to dwell on that. It has happened and I don’t have any power over that or to influence the outcome for whatever reasons.

If you had the power or an opportunity to change it, would you have corrected it?

Yes, I would. Why not? As I mentioned earlier, I have no power over what have happened in the past and I have moved on from there. I have a beautiful wife and very loving kids who understands their dad for who he is. So there are no issues in any way. Making a case now will only amount to going back into what has happened several years ago which I don’t have the power to do correct.

You recently starred in a historic movie titled ‘Jaja The Great’. How challenging was the role?

You see, every script has its challenges and you have to deal with it in the best form. Jaja The Great is a very good movie and the first time I studied the script, I was marveled because it was well thought out. I played the role of a leader of the security force and there are different events that surround my character in the movie.

Were you auditioned for the role or the producers decided you were the best fit for the role?

I wouldn’t say I auditioned for it but I got a call from the handlers that Nonso Emeka wanted me to feature in his forthcoming movie. The funny side of the story was that I was busy at that time and I originally thought they might have considered someone else. I got the call again and I went on set to commence shoot after a few days. The whole experience was fun because I enjoyed every bit of playing a part in history.

Celebrities / Julius Agwu: I Saw Death But God Brought Me Back To Life by Erave: 4:20pm On Sep 28, 2015
Fresh from a successful surgery in USA, popular comedian, Julius Agwu is bubbling with life again as he prepares for the 10th anniversary edition of Crack Ya Ribs show in Abuja on October 2nd 2015. On Sunday, September 20th 2015, the multiple award winning comedian held a thanksgiving Service in Lagos to celebrate God’s faithfulness in his life.

The compere, actor cum singer had an exclusive session with ERAVE where he opened up on his successful surgery, his near death experience, the reckless life lived by entertainers, among other pertinent issues.

After a successful surgery, how do you feel to be back on your feet?

I don’t know where to start from. The truth is that it is really good to be alive and I thank God for everything. I owe Him all the praises for giving me this opportunity. I think it is a challenge that I really need to work more and that is basically what I have decided to do. I have to use my talent as an instrument to be able to impact more on my society. The truth is that, I can never take this opportunity for granted.

At some point during your ailment, was there any moment you pondered about giving up?

Yes, I won’t lie. This is very exclusive. There was a day I got back home and at some point I noticed I was going down, lost my appetite and I wasn’t feeling too good. You know how people will tell you different things and also form opinions. I just told my wife places where I kept vital documents for her to keep. She simply asked me ‘where are you going to’? I replied her that I don’t know what is happening and if in case anything happens to me, she can go on from there. She wasn’t shocked and even replied me that I am not going anywhere.

The truth about it is that a lot of people just walk around and do not know what is inside of them. Some people do not know what others are passing through and this has given me a renewed challenge. There is the need to be very careful and this goes to all of us especially those in entertainment.

You mentioned during your speech in church that the entire experience is another shot at life. What prompted that statement?

It is actually like a rebirth. I saw death and God brought me back to life. It is a rare opportunity because not too many people survive this and come back normal. Look at me, I have danced and given thanks to God because it’s truly a miracle. I am a living testimony that God really works. Some people are of the opinion that God is partial in some ways, but if He is truly partial in my case, then I have to give Him all the glory. I thank Him so much and I really don’t know where to start from in giving Him thanks.

Would you say entertainers do not give the required attention to their health?

All we do is hustle, work, and some other things without bothering to check our health. I just realized from this experience that we are more of colleagues and not even friends because nobody really cares about you. When it happens, it is just you and your family. I knew a lot of people who reached out to me and I appreciate them but really, it’s funny. What are we really hustling for? The true joy is your happiness and family because that is what life is about. Just like all the people who stole money, how many would they spend? Once you die, that is the end.

Aside all the challenges, what kept you going during the trying times?

The prayers, concerns, the tears of family, friends and those who truly care kept me going. There are a lot of my fans who reached out to me and had me in their prayers. Even on social media, there are some who were praying for me daily that I will be well. Also, the fact that I still have more in me kept me going because this is just the beginning and I have more to give. Right now, everything that I have procrastinated about gets my attention. I call it a rebirth, but trust me, now I know life has to be lived with ease. A lot of things have happened, but I will rather leave it that way.

Celebrities / Segun Arinze Blasts Emeka Ike, Calls Him An Attention Seeker by Erave: 4:01pm On Sep 21, 2015
The last is yet to be heard of the age long crisis that has rocked the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN). In the last few months, top shots and other members of the guild have battled with unending court cases from different sections.

Popular actor, Emeka Ike had instituted a suit against embattled AGN head, Ibinabo Fiberesima that the election process that brought her into office for the second time was conducted against a court order.

Speaking with ERAVE, top actor, Segun Arinze who is a past president of AGN said Emeka Ike who has publicly declared himself as the head of the guild is an attention seeker who is convinced on what is best for him. “I don’t want to trade words with him because he lacks pedigree. Emeka Ike was never AGN President. The media should stop giving him attention because he is just an attention seeker who wants to be in the news for the wrong reasons. If he wants to head the guild, let him go through the right process. The process is, get the form, go through the required screening, then contest for the elections when certified. It is when he becomes victorious at the election process he can then declare himself as the president of AGN,”

“He has been claiming to be the AGN president since I left as the head of the guild in 2011 before Ibinabo came in. Why didn’t he purchase the forms to contest elections then? This is how he will continue till Ibinabo’s tenure expires next year and another individual will emerge president. He is hallucinating and he needs to wake up from his slumber,” he further stated.

On the court’s declaration on Ibinabo’s election, Segun said “there is no problem with that. The court said the guild should return to status quo which in military parlance means ‘to return to normal or as it is’. Ibinabo still remains president and her tenure expires next year.”

Celebrities / Soundcity Vs P’square: Soundcity Provides Cynical Response To Jude Okoye by Erave: 8:23pm On Sep 11, 2015
Following the aftermath of Jude Okoye’s outburst in the ongoing row between award winning pop stars, P’Square and popular music channel, Soundcity TV, the station has swiftly reacted to Jude Okoye.

In a cynic response, Soundcity TV subtly subbed Jude Okoye via a picture post on Twitter before releasing a statement addressing Jude Okoye’s claims via its website.

Check out the statement below.

Dear Jude and @SoundcityTV Fans,
Thank you for your tweets Jude; we will certainly address each of these tweets, especially since they are some sorts of allegation:

Of course, we did not think we are doing your group a ‘Favour’. Just like any other artistes, if you have a great material, we will showcase it on our channel and various platforms. Supporting, promoting, nurturing a talent isn’t a favour. It is obligatory, indeed?

‘Begging PSquare’ to Tour with? We needed the content? Soundcity is a music and lifestyle channel, music and music programming forms 80% of our content while lifestyle handles the remainder. We are pretty sure the expense of touring with you then was much more than rotating music videos, make a business case out of this and you’ll see for yourself why we wouldn’t have ‘begged’ as you have claimed in your tweets…but hey! We did it for the LOVE!

Your job is to co-direct videos, and manage the group and ensure you do things in their best interest ‘reasonably’. Ours is to play the videos if we see them deem fit. Luckily, all your videos are co-directed with Clarence Peters, one of Nigeria’s biggest music video directors, partly a Soundcity Alumni. Please read between the lines of ‘reserving the rights to play.’ to fully understand what it means. Meanwhile, interestingly…our job also partly runs along us advising your group as per better professional input from us, for free.

We suggest rather than you wanting to ‘create’ a union in ‘we artiste’…you should speak and deal with your group squarely. NOBODY ever asked for your group to perform for FREE, only that we asked for a reasonable performance fee. You wanted to charge 10 or 12 Million or so. We are glad that a lot of artistes came through and yes; they played to their fans at the free event, for free.

We don’t pay Royalties? Your job as a manager is to ensure your artistes’ get their royalty pay cheques. Check with COSON and MCSN, SOUNDCITY pays Royalties every calendar year for music use on Soundcity and on sister channels, the platform carriers (DStv) doubles that effort too. Perhaps you should ask your colleagues in the industry about how that works. COSON is the Copyright Society of Nigeria and MCSN is the Musical Copyright Society of Nigeria, also you can learn more about COSON here http://www.cosonng.com

What Blackmail? You decided not to work with our brand, we decided not to work with your brand by withdrawing your videos from our channel and completely stopped doing business with you. Not sure that’s what ‘Blackmail’ means. You took a decision, we took ours too. Simple.

Lastly, we will do something rewarding for you today! Please tune in by 3PM to watch #PSQUARE: THEN & NOW! Fans will be able to catch videos from the early years to present and also, #PSQUARE vs. #USHER: ORIGINAL DANCE OFF! By 3:30 PM today. Really, there is no such thing as ‘Boycott’ in premium entertainment.

Actually, scratch that! We should but we won’t. We will do #CHRISBROWN vs #USHER: DANCEOFF for 3PM today instead, #ChrisBrown is trending right now on the Internet.
This is the last time we are speaking on this, we have a number one TV channel to run.
Thank you.

Celebrities / SEYI LAW: I Never Planned To Become A Comedian by Erave: 7:32pm On Sep 11, 2015
Popular comedian Idileoye Oluwaseyitan Lawrence Aletile better known as Seyi Law is one of the most sought after comic characters in the Nigerian entertainment scene. He shot into prominence in 2006 after winning AY’s Open MIC challenge. 10 years down the line, Seyi has effectively proved to be one of Nigeria’s gifted comedians.

In this chat with ERAVE, Seyi Law talked about his background, challenges faced by comedians, how he cheated death and other sundry issues.

You recently celebrated a decade doing comedy. How would you rate the experience?

It’s really been a journey which has left my heart full of gratitude. I tell people all the time that I didn’t plan to be a comedian. It was just my cousin who saw the talent in me and advised me that I can venture into comedy. When I started it in August 2005, he was the one who introduced me on stage for the first time. At a point, I just decided okay, I think I could live on this and it was at that point that I started asking myself ‘how is the first ten years going to be?’ If I would really succeed in this business, it means you are going to stay relevant for the first ten years, and by the special grace of God, the dream came true. It has really been wonderful all the way because I recently won two awards just a week after my ten years celebration.

What have been the challenges since you ventured into comedy business?

Anyone who comes into the comedy industry will tell you one of the greatest problems of the industry is recognition. Because comedy is not on the same level or as big as music yet, we also have a bit of a challenge in terms of respect. There are cases you are billed for an event with a musician and the organizers will only provide accommodation for the musician and expect the comedian to arrive the event from his home without proper accommodation in place. The musician will only perform for about fifteen minutes while the comedian will have to be present for the entire duration of the event. So some of these things are the things we see. Therefore, we want to always talk about recognition all the time.

How have you been able to break the language barrier in breaking into the international market?

(laughs) I have done English comedy for over one hour before without even speaking either Yoruba or Pigin English. The most important thing is to understand your audience and know what to say and when to say it. Once you understand that and you are able to improve on yourself, you don’t have a problem. As a matter of fact, I’m still going back to school very soon in order to get my English in proper shape because I feel the need.

Celebrities / Soundcity TV Fires Back At P’square, Claims It Invested Heavily In The Group by Erave: 9:07pm On Sep 10, 2015
Following the aftermath of Peter Okoye’s social media outburst directed at urban music channel, Soundcity TV for refusing to air P’Square’s videos on its platform, the latter has swiftly reacted.

Earlier today, Peter Okoye of the P’Square fame took to his social media page to take a swipe at urban music and lifestyle station, Soundcity TV. He stated Soundcity TV refused to air any of P’Square’s videos on the music channel.

In a statement titled 'What has Soundcity ever done for P-Square?' the music channel reacted to Peter Okoye’s Twitter outburst sighting reasons why it stopped airing P’Square’s video.

“We invited #PSquare to one of our annual events last December 2014 and they insisted we pay a certain amount of money. We reasonably asked, what is the least we can offer?; this was us foregoing the fact that we had invested a lot in #PSquare’s career as music talents / artistes & entertainers,” part of the statement reads.

The statement further reads, “ultimately, #PSquare music videos stopped airing on @SoundcityTV since January 01, 2015. Soundcity reserves the right to air music videos on our cable / satellite or terrestrial platforms.”
Read the full statement below.

For 10 Years, @SoundcityTV has been a huge supporter of #PSquare and the #PSquare brand, right from their 1st music video to the last video released in 2014. Most of their videos got massive airplay on @SoundcityTV than any other music channel.

@SoundcityTV viewers sometimes complain about the dominance of #PSquare videos on the channel & charts. We were a huge supporter and gave everything to their works.

We have assisted the #PSquare brand, toured with them over Africa at our expense. Gave them ad-spots for their events / projects. Gave them prime time slots for their videos and included them in our array of Programmes / programming.

We invited #PSquare to one of our annual events last December 2014 and they insisted we pay a certain amount of money. We reasonably asked, what is the least we can offer?; this was us foregoing the fact that we had invested a lot in #PSquare’s career as music talents / artistes & entertainers.

Celebrities / ENTERTAINMENT BUSINESS: A Word For The President by Erave: 3:43pm On Sep 04, 2015
In recent years, the level of participation of government, both at the state and the federal levels in the entertainment industry is quite commendable compared to the past when it wasn’t even considered by any arm of government. The government constantly needs to foster the growth of the industry by investing in it because the Nigerian entertainment industry is economically viable but its immense potentials have remained untapped.

One of the roles of a government in any society is to strive for growth and development in every area and the role entertainment plays in developing the tourism potentials of a country cannot be over emphasized. There should be a direct communication pathway between the government and the entertainment industry.

In as much as the entertainment industry requires more support from government to attain its full potentials, we must also state that the corporate bodies also need to support the continuous growth of Nigeria entertainment industry.

Celebrities / JJC: How Doing Music Cost Me My Love Life by Erave: 3:09pm On Sep 04, 2015
Born and raised in the Northern part of Nigeria, Abdul Rasheed Bello better known by his moniker, JJC is a songwriter, rapper, singer and music video director whose musical career has spanned over 17 years. JJC is famous for his role in developing some of Africa’s finest music exports such as D’banj, Don Jazzy and many others following his creation of defunct music group, 419 Squad.

He sat with ERAVE to discuss his recently released album, his love life, challenges returning to Nigeria, among other sundry issues.

What has kept you going?

I grew up to love music and I made it my passion. For me, doing music is like having fun. People always see me as very energetic on stage and in my music videos. It’s simple because I love what I am doing. I am full of life and vibrancy.

What will you say set you apart from other artistes?

I am very different, because my orientation in life is different. I grew up in the UK where I learnt a lot about music at a very young age. I was signed by Sony Music while I was 22. I was also writing songs for record companies. Majority of Nigerian music is based on dancing, and that’s not really a lot of message. That is where I stand out because lots of my songs have messages that impacts lives.
Does that mean you don’t like making dance music?

Not everyone in Nigeria likes my music because they assume I don’t do the kind of music people really want to hear which is dance music. I did venture it into once and had lots of fun. I express myself in my own capacity. ‘Feeling you’ and ‘Eru’ were more of dance tracks, but it still passed messages.

Celebrities / Re: ‘I Thought My Legs Would Be Amputated’ – Jahbless’ Manager, Adedamola Olatunji by Erave: 3:05pm On Sep 04, 2015
alonzoiv:
Nice one

Thanks boss!
Celebrities / ‘I Thought My Legs Would Be Amputated’ – Jahbless’ Manager, Adedamola Olatunji by Erave: 11:46am On Sep 04, 2015
The Nigerian Music Industry was almost thrown into deep mourning on Thursday, June 4, 2015 following reports that music star, Jahbless was involved in an auto crash when returning from Industry Nite where he was hosted a day earlier.

Few hours later, investigations revealed that Jahbless was indeed hale and hearty but his field manager, Adedamola Olatunji, who also doubles as the assigned manager to artistes on the JE Records label was badly hurt in a ghastly auto crash.

Abo as he is fondly referred to among his peers was immediately rushed to a Lagos hospital before he was transferred to Ondo State where he had a successful surgery for femur fracture. Weeks after he was released from hospital, ERAVE cornered Adedamola Olatunji where he shared his experience on the horrific accident.

On his experience during the horrific accident: I don’t know where to start from but it was a bitter one because it wasn’t what I was expecting. After we dropped the album (Jahbless’ IaMMe), we had Industry Nite on June 3, 2015. On getting to the venue, I was busy because we also had another event to attend the same day. I told Jahbless to go in another car because I had to settle something with the Industry Nite organizers. The accident happened after I was rushing down to join the team where we were meant to have an after party. On getting to a sharp bend between Spice Route and The Place, it was raining so I couldn’t see clearly what is in front of me. By the time I entered the sharp bend, I ran into a trailer that had already crossed the road. I thank God for life and give kudos to my record label because they really helped a lot. I give thanks to Jahbless, my friends and every other individual who played different roles in getting me back on my feet.

On his thoughts when informed of the state of his injury: When I see people who had accidents limp, I never believed or thought I would be in the same position. When I was back in the hospital, the question I asked everyone who came to see me was; Will my legs be amputated? Even before getting to Ondo State where I was transferred from Lagos, I was still asking the same question.
