PoliticsRe: How 1billion Naira Contract Tears Naomi's Marriage To Ooni Apart by ericuzor(m): 11:48pm On Dec 25, 2021

IsaacAdetunji1:
How 1billion naira contract tears Naomi's marriage to Ooni apart

I billion naira contract scattered Naomi's marriage to Ooni of Ife The supposed dissolution of the three- year old marriage between the Ooni of Ife, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunsusi, Ojaja II, and his Queen, Silekunola Naomi Ogunwusi has continued to generate unending controversy making it global attention via the digital media The manner, circumstances and nature of the news was not only strange but shocking and disappointing particularly learning the fact that a marriage doused in traditional vestiges in the home of Silekunola Naomi's parent was single-handedly dissolved via an announcement of ' a divorce notice ' by the erstwhile Queen of Oduduwa via her Instagram. Since the release of her' I have moved on ' a letter purportedly written by Queen Naomi where she analysed her reasons for singlehandedly dissolving and divorcing the Ooni, the global digital and social media has been taken over by self-appointed judges, critics, bloggers and commentators spewing and making judgemental statements without burrowing into the root cause of the crisis. Though Queen Naomi explained in her ' divorce letter' that her decision to divorce the revered Monarch was not based on an allegation of immoral conduct against him According to her “Let it be known that this decision to move on did not come because his majesty is married to another queen. As many would love to assume, throughout our life as a couple, I was the only married wife to him. There were side attractions, but it was never an issue.' She also never mentioned maltreatment, harassment or untoward behaviour from the King in her three years marriage All that she pointed out in the letter was the general experience expected of a typically responsible lady should go through in a typical African marriage. ' I did my best to endure and make it work; many times, I smiled through the struggle, but I have finally realised I had just one assignment, my son, and when God is done, He is done. He chose Saul to be king, and when He was done, He told the prophet Samuel I have moved on. Religion was never an issue between us; please refer to my interview on News Central TV. Instead, His Majesty has a picture he would love the world to see and perceive him as and another one, which is his true self' Going through the letter, one should ask himself, are these genuine issues or good grounds for a divorce? Has the marriage broken down irretrievably? No Has there been an allegation of adultery? No Is there an allegation of dissertation? No Insanity? No Then if these characteristics or grounds of divorce are not pointed out by Naomi in her letter of divorce something must be wrong somewhere particularly as the palace has kept mum over the issue. This and the fact that not a single effort has been made to unveil the real issue behind the ' I moved on ' letter of divorce on Naomi's Instagram page. The fact According to Factcheckers, an independent investigative blogger in its finding uncovered five major reasons 1. Ooni's impetuosity at empowering the family of whoever he wedded 2. His eagerness and unfettered desire of making any marriage work by over pampering and over satisfying his spouse 3. Naomi's Childish and youthful exuberance and her agrarian affection for her family member 4. Cross level mentality or class up the ante 5 Naomi's mum, her brother Gbenro and the gold-digging attitude of the family. An investigation by Factcheckers uncovered an Ooni Ojaja who was smarting out of a controversial marriage believing he must of necessity and image married a God-fearing lady who will be able to be a Queen in need and deeds. Some elements of which she found in youthful Silekuola hence she decked her in surplus latitude and wide discretion. The first was the issue of not tampering with and being a cog in her ministrations enterprise This comes in two folds, that the lady will be shuffling between Akure her base and Ife her home. Also, that she will be left alone to carry on with her prophetic business. Both granted. In making her comfortable at executing this, the Ooni relocated the family of her Queen from the room and parlour accommodation outside Akure and planted them in a palatial duplex at Ijapo GRA in Akure with 24 hours monarchical attention. Silekunola moved every member of her family, the Mum, all her singing, Simi, Gbenro her brother and six others into the house. And whenever she moved to Ife also, she does with all the trains and family wagon. At Ile - Ife, immediately the marriage was consummated and a private residential quarter was allocated to the Queen, all the above members of her family were always there with her. Whether Naomi's mum was always staying there permanently whether her daughter was in Ile - Ife or not. Factcheckers found out that Naomi's prefers staying in Akure for her ministration works. And to her credit, she has never kept a straight one week in Ile - Ife to attend to the king neither has she cooked a pot of soup or ordinary egg by herself for the Monarch not once since their marriage. According to the investigation, the golden rule in the palace is that ' The Queen and her family must be comfortable ' Thus the deliberate lapping up of the excesses of Queen Naomi's family particularly the Queen mum who always go to the market to buy things on ' won't you sell to the Queen's mother?' and Gbenro, a former trailer conductor who was heavily rehabilitated by the Ooni. It was even found out that Silekunola has a strong attachment with her family and thrice told the Ooni of Ife that if the occasion warrants her picking an option between he Ooni and Tadenikawo on one hand and her family on the other, she will not bit an eye to opt for her family. And this according to the investigation was displayed by her during the last coronation anniversary that she refused to attend the major occasion just because the Ooni refused to send a special convoy to come and pull her and all her family in Akure even though she has 7 cars and retinue of attendants at her disposal. The investigation revealed that Queen Naomi's mannerism and modus operandi was tolerable by the Ooni but her family's patent idiosyncracies were contemptible particularly Simi, the lady whose weird dance, nearly brought down the roof of the hall during one of the events of the royal, the mum's waywardness and Gbenro, her unemployed brother who is intoxicated with the simplicity and generosity of the Ooni. Since her marriage to the Ife Monarch, it was discovered that her mother, her brother (Uncle) and other siblings reside in the palace until a few weeks ago when the Ooni insisted her mother and siblings must vacate the palace as the ostentatious life being lived and the untoward attitude disgraces the monarch especially among his friends, who have become "mugus" of the olori family waywardness. However, the last straw that broke the proverbial camel's back was the decision of the Ooni at emancipating and empower the family of his wife forever. An opportunity emerged from a long dream of the Ooni who wish to plant the most luxurious Housing and Property Resort in South-West Nigeria. A project of 20 billion nairas in Akure, Ondo State. He this decided to appoint the firstborn of his Queen mum, Gbenro who has nothing tangible to do than feasting on the palace and his younger sister, Naomi. With proper consultation and agreement with his Queen, Ooni Ojaja II handed over a sum of 1 billion nairas to Gbenro for the commencement of phase 1 of the housing project! That is where the beauty stopped and the commencement of the disintegration of the 2nd marriage of Ooni Ojaja II. Gbenro moved to the site with enthusiasm and promise to deliver. He started on a good note that the Ooni did not blink an eye when he requested for additional 50 million nairas, another 100 million and another 50 million nairas, making 1.2 billion nairas in all And so soon, the structure put on and supervised by Gbenro started collapsing, giving way to the ground after a little rain! Alarmed that the project abinitio has developed a fundamental problem which if not nip quickly and promptly in the bud may kill the dream forever. Investigation revealed that Ooni Ojaja II called a meeting with his wife, Gbenro and others telling them to see the necessity of disentangling Gbenro from the project and assigning another competent fellow to do the task And before that was done a quality and quantity assessment was carried out on the job done at the site as supervised by Gbenro. The assessment revealed a job done at 567 million nairas while 1.2 million has been collected by Gbenro! Ooni Ojaja II realised the institution of the cult of In-law and his prime intention of emancipating his wife's family overlooked the issue and the money and re-assigned the project to another competent person - one Victor at another cost without asking Gbenro to refund any money. Investigation revealed that even though the Ooni carried her Queen along in all these decisions to disengage Gbenro for the benefit of the project and the Royal family, Queen Naomi and her family were bitter and angry and swore to square up with Ooni Ojaja II. The first sign of rebellion came from Gbenro who after his disengagement from the site which was being handled by Victor, twice, led a band of marijuana smoking guys to destroy the work in progress and constitute a nuisance. Investigation revealed that in each time of nuisance Ooni always called the attention of his Queen who instead of cautioning her brother always put the blame on ' Kabiyesi too should have not disengaged him too' Tired and frustrated by the report on the malfeasance of Gbenro, Ooni was said to have called him to the palace for cautioning. In the meeting, Gbenro was said to have displayed what an eye witness described as " an animalistic behaviour, totally unexpected by a sane human being at that Royal forum' It was gathered that Naomi was there watching his brother behaving in an uncultured manner without a word of reprieve from her. Despite Gbenro's crude intransigent and bellicose attitude towards the Monarch, the investigation revealed that Naomi never for once chastised or admonished him Investigation revealed that while Gbenro was exhibiting his madness and the Monarch was impressing on her the essence of making the Akure project an excellent one, all Naomi was up to is how her brother would get the project back whether he is competent or not minding the consequence for Ooni's image and their own immediate family. ' She made many attempted to change the mind of the tender heart Ooni to recall his brother Gbenro back to the site, a request flatly rejected by the monarch who appealed to his now-estranged wife to look at the issue from his point of view as his wife and mother of his prince.' It was also gathered that Olori Naomi told the Oba that his brother must return to the site or she will not have anything to do with the Ooni and she will not visit Ile Ife until this is done It was also learnt that while the volte-face between the Ooni and his now-estranged wife was getting to its a crescendo, the father of the monarch as a responsible elder, called the attention of Naomi's mother, who insulted the old man, and in the process, the said Gbenro hijacked the telephone from the old man and lambasted him severally, which made him cry. The monarch got wind of the irresponsible act, called his wife to report the unruly act of her brother, but she was vehement that it's either her brother returns to the site or nothing again, while that was ongoing, Gbenro again, snatched the phone from her sister, lampooned the highly respected Yoruba Oba. It was gathered that Naomi has not been to Ile - Ife in the last 6 weeks claiming that she could only come home from. Akure to Ife with all her family members, including the mum and Gbenro who has been on a rude spree to the Ooni with impunity This we gathered that Ooni refused her prayers telling her that she cannot bring into the Royal stead those who fouled and despised royalty.
this is 100% a fabricated story..

PoliticsRe: Hinterland Ibos And The Misconception Of Bonny by ericuzor(m): 12:19am On Dec 14, 2021
Alabo7978:
Over the modern years, the people of Bonny (okoloama) has grown from strength to strength, the oil rich city state has etched it’s name in the annals of European and African history; from it’s first contact with the Portuguese/ Brits and the start of the slave trade, to the industrial revolution and the export of palm oil which was in high demand for the lubrication of industrial engines and the making of soap and margarines.
The sandbank and marshy land known traditionally as Okolo-ama (curlew town) was named after the first settlers discovered a large number of the okolo(curlew) but if anyone would have told them how great their marshy land will turn out in hundreds of years time, they probably would have doubted because the delta in those days were naturally swampy and filled with death hence the reason for the name “white man's graveyard” but still it’s tall mangroves was the pride of the ancient Oru people who settled in Hamlets traditionally known as (Ama or Biri)
HOW DID THE COASTAL DWELLERS OF BONNY FARE PRIOR TO THE SLAVE TRADE?
Trading canoes were of utmost importance and it was with trading canoes the coastal dwellers moored up stream towards the hinterlands to buy the crops grown in the Igbo country as noted by Dr Köller a German doctor who worked as a physician in Bonny in the beginning of the 19th century.
In his work he noted that “There is where most of the Bonny canoes go to purchase provisions including smelted weapons for the coastal dwellers…
They call Igbo land IGBINNI, it lies at the source of the delta and is full of great forests and mighty trees. It is very rich in natural products such as maize, rice, oil palms, cotton, dye woods”
Owing to the death and wildness of the swamps and mangroves, the people of the hinterlands never brought their goods to the coastal dwellers including the Benins who also recorded the Deltas as a wasteland, the coastal dwellers had no other option than to navigate the waters and creeks with dried fish and salt(cooked from the ocean) to batter with their neighbors.

FROM SETTLEMENTS/FISHING CAMPS TO WEALTHY CITY STATES.
The settlements at the Advent of the Europeans grew rapidly in strength and wealth following the years that came with the slave trade, more notable ijo city states like Bonny, Nembe, kalabari and okrika became wealthy and powerful owing to rifles and cannons gotten from the white men for whom they sourced slaves for from the hinterlands.
The trade on human cargoes by the coastal dwellers who were go-betweeners made the city states of Nembe, new calabar(kalabari) and more especially Bonny the wealthiest of the IJO city states. Owing to their wealth and Autonomous position including their rise to prominence, these city states were suddenly distanced from there kinsmen in other less prominent coastal clans of the ancient Oru people.

THE FOUNDATION OF THE KINGSHIP AND THE HOUSE(WARI) SYSTEM
King Asimini was the first crowned king of okoloama(Bonny) and was the first to arrange the housing system known traditionally as ‘Wari’. The current house (Wari) system which consist of 34 chieftaincy group is directly descended from the King Asimini and Alagbiriye the Ikuba priest who is known with the title ‘okoloamakoromabo’

THE LINK TO THE HINTERLANDS
Owing to the need of the coastal dwellers to have easy access to the cash crops grown in the thick forests of the Igbo country, Edemini the son and successor to Asimini wedded his daughter Kambasa to Opoli of Azuogu and influential man of the Ndoki clan of the Igbo country to Foster easy trade with the Ndoki’s who depended on the goods from up the imo river(including human cargoes) in Ndoki land; further throwing light to Dr koeller who revealed that “most of the people who were not born in Bonny are either slaves from the Igbo country or were at least brought here(Bonny) by the ibos from the interior”
Kambasa while married was barely liberated and hindered greatly. She returned to Bonny when king Edimini was on his sickbed and stayed by his side till his death. Upon his death, she seized upon the mantle of leadership and was crowned Queen. Kambasa who later took a lover named Biriye became the great grand mother to king Perekule I

WHO ARE THE OWNERS OF BONNY?
Following the morphing of a swampy settlement traditionally known and called 'okoloama' named after the curlew bird known by many Oru(ijoid) clan as okolo or okolain, ama (town) in English curlew town, no other tribe from the hinterlands or the west came to dwell owing to the nature of the area.
Dr Köller noted that “THE BONNY LANGUAGE IS THE MOTHER TONGUE OF ONLY A SECTION OF THE BONNY PEOPLE; for others, it is only AN ADOPTED LANGUAGE, for the large part of the coastal people especially at Bonny consist of slaves who are purchased or seized by other tribes, sometimes from great distance. MOST OF THE PEOPLE WHO WERE NOT BORN IN BONNY WERE EITHER SLAVES FROM IGBO LAND OR ATLEAST BROUGHT HERE BY THE IBOS FROM THE INTERIOR”
Note: Köler's work 1842-43 are reprinted as Köler 1848.

CAPTAIN HUGH CROW; the misconception
Captain Crow nicknamed playman, a renowned slave trader and Marauder of the Atlantic in his journals collected information that was the beginning of the misconception only to a few uniformed ibos from the interior.
Crow collected words from slaves who were either bound for the Atlantic voyage as slave captains were mostly anchored at the coast, leaving local rulers to source for slaves. As a result of this, vocabularies collected by Captain Hugh Crow were not vocabularies associated with the Bonny dialect.
The research on coastal vocabularies by Dr Balfour Baikie, Sir Edwin Norris who was the assistant secretary of the royal Asiatic society began by collecting Numerals in the Bonny dialect, and not forgetting the enigmatic british missionary John Clarke who in 1848 began to group the ijoid Languages.
Although the journal of Captain Hugh Crow is still accessible as an E-journal on the sole reason of it being a personal journal, but it isn’t found, referenced or cited in reputable information sources like Encyclopedia BRITANNICA or Wikipedia.

JOHN CLARKE; the subsequent expedition
In the 1840’S Clarke a British missionary along with his Afro-American colleague Merrick on quest to identify the languages to address the coastal dwellers stumbled on the ijoid dialects and looked into it extensively.
“Merrick collected his wordlists in an unsystematic way” as stated by British BIBLIOGRAPHER (Paul hair 1967)
Clarke was the first to began grouping the ijoid Languages when he listed kalabari and the Bonny dialect under the ijo or Oru language. in 1848 he added two more dialects; numbe(Nembe) and Akrika(Okrika)

DR William BALFOUR BAIKIE; The 1854 Voyage
From the Rio Formoso to the Nun, including all the western portion of the Delta, the natives speak Orú or Ejó, and to the westward of Abó a distinct dialect is used, namely the Sóbo. NÍMBE or BRASS IS VERY NEARLY RELATED TO THE ORÚ… BUT HERE THE DIALECT CLOSELY APPROACHES THAT OF NEW KALABAR (KALABARI) _
(Baikie 1856:419)
The numerals 1-10 in bonny which he collected personally from King Perekule (nicknamed pepple) with an extra 6 wordlist of six items all from the Bonny dialect.

1----------------nge
2--------------- nmé
3---------------- tére
4----------------- éni
5---------------- sónna
6----------------- súniu
7----------------- soniáma
8------------------ ínine
9------------------ éséníé
10----------------- atí-oyí
Water------------- míngi
Fire----------------- féne
God----------------- Támọno
Idol-----------------djú-dju (widespread loanword)
House---------------wári
Mat-------------------bíle

The compilation of the Polyglotta Africana in 1850 published in 1854 by German scholar Sigismund Koelle (not Dr Köler) who worked for the Church Missionary Society (CMS) in Freetown Sierra Leone was a systematic collection of African
Collection of vocabularies of African languages, compiled by interviewing the freed slaves who had been resettled in Freetown. Koelle used a standard wordlist of about three hundred items and added notes on his Informants and their homelands, from which he was able to draw a map which is remarkably accurate for a Period when no European knew the interior of West Africa. His vocabularies are grouped according to genetic relationship in so far as he could trace it from the wordlists. He has two wordlists of Ịjọ, grouped together as V.C., the group which conjoins Igboid and Edoid. The first list, ´Okulōma, is a wordlist of bonny, Named for the town Ókólómá, although Koelle’s informant was from Orupiri (órúpírí) Koelle (1854:cool refers to Obā́ne as the name for these people given by the Ibos and Kerekas [Okrika].
Williamson (1966) discusses Koelle’s Ịjọ lists in detail. In the case of bonny, she shows that some 73% of Koelle’s forms were accurate and also yield much interesting information about lexical and phonological change in the language.
The final voyage by Samuel Crowther. For the British crown in his missionary travel will further correct any misconception held by the hinterland neighbors.
And it reads;
“TERMINOLOGY FROM KING PEPPLE,
Bonny is called OKOLOMA by themselves
Bonny is called okoloBA, obani or ibani by the ibos
Bonny is called Osiminikun by the Aboh tribe of ibo
King Pepple said that Bonny is CHIEFLY PEOPLED by the IBO SLAVES though they speak the OKOLOMA or Bonny dialect which is also the language of new Calabar (kalabari)
I remain Rev and Dear sir
Your obedient humble servant;
Samuel crowther”
All of these researches relegated the journals of Captain Hugh crow to just a personal journal or a family relic for its posterity, reason it is never referenced or cited in reputable information sources such as Encyclopedia BRITANNICA or Wikipedia.

THE EMANCIPATION OF SLAVES IN BONNY; the rise of Igbo chiefs and the Genesis of the great misconception by the hinterLANDERS.
Owing to the rivalry with new calabar (kalabari) both kingdoms were always at loggerheads with each other, King Perekule I became the first king to employ the services of slaves to serve as comrades of battle with the promise of emancipation and a possible promotion of the high position of chieftaincy if valor is shown in battle. These new batches of house began with Chief Allison Nwaoju(of the Allison Nwaoju Major house) these new batches of houses are distinct from the original traditional royal houses known as 'duawari' (reason Jaja was never qualified to be AMAYANABO despite being enculturated and heading the Anna pepple house)
The chiefs of the Duawari houses were known as 'Aseme-alapu' which translates to (high chiefs of royal blood)
In summary, it is well known that the Ndoki dialect of the Igbo ethnic group is well spoken in Bonny but only as a second language. The Bonny Language alongside other coastal dialects has been studied extensively by dutch linguist Gerrit Dimmendaal who first mentioned that the ijoid Languages though of the niger-congo in a larger concept is more distinct and stands more alone from the niger-congo.
British linguists Williamson and Blench (2000) classified the ijoid dialect into (WEST-CENTRAL, INLAND, EASTERN ijoid dialect; of which the Bonny clan falls into)
King Jaja of Opobo (full name: Jubo Jubofem; 1821–1891) was an Igbo merchant prince and the founder of Opobo city-state in an area that is now the Rivers State of Nigeria. Born in Umuduruoha Amaigbo in present day Imo State, he was taken to Bonny by slave raiders as a youth.[2][3] Jumo Jumofem later took the name "Jaja".
Jaja earned his way out of slavery and rose to head the Anna Pepple House merchant faction of Bonny Island. Under him, Anna Pepple absorbed other trade houses until a dispute with the Manilla Pepple House led by Oko Jumbo compelled Jaja to break away to form the Opobo city-state (26 miles east of Bonny) in 1869.

Opobo came to dominate the region's palm oil trade, and controlled fourteen of what were formerly Bonny's eighteen trade houses. Jaja blocked the access of British merchants to the interior effectively monopolizing trade; Opobo also shipped palm oil directly to Liverpool, independent of British middlemen.

At the 1884 Berlin Conference the Europeans designated Opobo as British territory. When Jaja refused to cease taxing the British traders, Henry Hamilton Johnston, a British vice consul, invited Jaja for negotiations in 1887. Jaja was arrested on arrival aboard a British vessel; he was tried in Accra in the Gold Coast (now Ghana) then exiled, first to London, and later to Saint Vincent and Barbados in the British West Indies.[4][5]

In 1891, Jaja was granted permission to return to Opobo, but died en route.[6] Following his exile and death, the power of the Opobo state rapidly declined.

You Africans like to deceive yourselves.
Instead of you to go to hospital and take tests you rely on shouting hallelujah, believing that one shrine in your village is the cause of your misfortune.

You've never asked yourselves this questions.
1.) If the shrines are this powerful, why and how did the Europeans flog both the shrine and the chief priest to Americas during slave trade?
2.) If the Church and their God provides wealth, why do I have to contribute to the pastor/priest in the name of offering and tithe for them to become rich?
Why won't they (pastors and Priests) wait on the God like me but depend on the visible money I contribute while I wait on spiritual money from the God "he claims to speak directly to?"

People always blame what they can't explain on spirits, thereby making themselves mentally lazy.

We've passed The age of religion and superstitious beliefs. This is the age of Science and Innovation but as usual black people are left behind
I reason like you before but my brother superstition is real black power African JuJu or vudu is real if you like disbelief that's your problem because what I have seen I can't say.

PoliticsRe: Buba Marwa Gives Them Bloody Nose - By Femi Adesina by ericuzor(m): 1:14pm On Oct 29, 2021

presidency:
My first intervention some months back on the war against hard drugs use in the country was under the headline ‘Buba Marwa and the Bad Guys.’ And here I come again today, armed with facts on how the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has suddenly come alive under its Chairman/Chief Executive, Brig. Gen. Mohammed Buba Marwa, and is giving a bloody nose to traffickers, peddlers and users of narcotic substances in the country.

On Thursday last week, Gen. Marwa was our guest at the weekly State House Press Briefing. And what an illuminating session it was. He unfolded in graphic details, with video evidences, what has been going on in the drug war.

He described 2021 as a year, “which in the annals of NDLEA is epochal, defined by the renewed war against abuse and trafficking of illicit substances.”

Everything boils down to leadership. If the NDLEA is suddenly energized and is now making conquests, it is all about leadership. And Buba Marwa acknowledges the support of leadership at a higher level. Hear him: “It is prudent for me to state upfront that a progress report of the NDLEA should not be taken as an isolated appraisal; rather, it should be taken as an integral part of the anti-drug trafficking thrust of the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari. Not only did Mr President set the tone for the fight against illicit drugs by handing the Agency the mandate, the direction and the set objectives, he also provided the catalysts-willpower, financial intervention and moral support that boosted NDLEA’s capability to deliver.”

Give it to President Buhari. He has identified some round pegs for round holes in the country, given them the necessary support, and they are doing exploits. Buba Marwa is one of them.

I recall a meeting at the Presidency some months ago, where the issue was whether to bring in foreign hands into the battle against insecurity in the country, or not. President Buhari was all for the efficiency and efficacy of local capacities, citing what Buba Marwa was doing at NDLEA as an example. He used that to illustrate the fact that Nigeria has all it takes to prosecute its wars at different fronts and levels.

What has the NDLEA done under Marwa, with the support of President Buhari, and the technical support of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, UNODC?

First, internal reforms and cleansing. Hear Marwa: “It is pertinent to note that the anti-drug trafficking agenda can hardly be prosecuted without the Agency itself first going through a reform process to transform it into an efficient drug control apparatus.”

He described the situation he met when he was appointed at the beginning of the year as “a far cry from the ideal. The NDLEA at the time was decrepit, grossly incapacitated, hampered by institutional encumbrances, poorly funded and understaffed” with the officers and men working under disenchanting circumstances.

Hence, the starting point was a reinvigoration of the workforce. About 3,506 officers whose careers had stagnated for as long as 20 years were promoted, unpaid entitlements were cleared, including burial expenses to the families of 188 officers who died in the line of duty, and owed since 2014.

Hear this. Despite the dangerous nature of the work, NDLEA never paid burial expenses. It was officers and men who would contribute from their pockets to bury the dead, and give tokens to their families. How dispiriting, disillusioning, depressing. President Buhari and Buba Marwa have reversed the trend.

Still on internal reforms, the agency has created directorates on Planning, Research and Statistics, Special Duty and Strike Force, being trained at the Nigerian Army School of Infantry, Directorate of Media and Advocacy, as well as of Airport Operations. The overall result is that we now have a properly structured intelligence-driven anti-narcotics organization.

The National Drug Use Survey of 2019 by UNODC gave a shocking portrait of drug abuse in Nigeria. The country has a drug use prevalence of 14.4, which is almost three times the global average. Holy Moses! Jumping Jehoshaphat!

The NDLEA under Marwa, therefore, embarked on drug supply reduction activities to mop up existing illicit drugs in the country, stem the influx of narcotic drugs, disrupt, disconnect and dismantle the trafficking pipeline.

Here are some of the achievements as at October 15, this year, according to Marwa, a former military Governor in Borno State, and administrator of iconic influence in Lagos State.

-9,355 arrested traffickers, including six drug barons
-Over 5,00 drug offenses cases filed in court
-Over N100 billion worth of drugs and cash recovered
-More than 2.7 million kilograms of assorted illicit drugs seized in 10 months
-5,579 drug users counseled and rehabilitated

Mind boggling seizures and interceptions made include 230 tons of cannabis in Edo State, 451,807 Captagon tablets at Apapa seaport, in Lagos, 1,994,400 capsules of Tramadol, 144,400 bottles of codeine syrup, 32.9 kg of cocaine worth over N9 billion in October alone, and the biggest single seizure from an individual in 15 years, 26.840 kg of cocaine smuggled from Brazil.

It was quite pleasing and encouraging to hear this from the NDLEA boss: “By the end of this year, we would have dealt sufficient decisive blows to the cannabis cartels in the country, going by the rate we’re going into the forests to destroy hundreds of hectares of their plantations in our ongoing operations.”

Pause and think of the havoc that would have been wreaked on the fabric of our society, if all the intercepted narcotics had been successfully spirited into the country. The pervasive insecurity issue cannot be divorced from the use of hard drugs, and can only be exacerbated by an unbridled flow.

President Buhari is giving the support necessary, and Marwa and NDLEA are giving the bloody nose to the bad people, unscrupulous men and women who will make money at the detriment of humanity and the society. No wonder Buhari shot them in his first coming.

Who says this country is irredeemable? Not with men of sterling character like Buhari and Marwa.
