We departed Agofure PTI Bus park, Warri @ 0930Hrs and the accident occurred 1045Hrs. 16 people in Agofure Bus only 2 came out unhurt and I was among the 2. 14 seriously injured with various injuries (Broken bones and wounds). 1 man died and 2 other men seriously injured in the other car. All victims were taken to Ahoada general Hospital. 1. Before you take out for your journey commit it to your God, no matter what 2. Always use your safety belt 3. Try to be awake, Agofure respond time was very poor. None of the bus drivers agreed to help evacuate victims to the nearest medical center. No first aid kit in any of agofure bus. No emergency team on site. May God heals all the victims quickly. May God accept the dead in his temple. I thank God for using His Son Jesus Christ to save my Life. PLS BROADCAST SO VICTIMS CAN BE LOCATED.

A staggering 800, 000 people commit suicide in Nigeria yearly, a professor of psychiatry, Joseph Adeyemi disclosed yesterday. Adeyemi, who chaired a Lagos presentation of the book: Shadows in the mirror: the many faces of depression, written by Dr. Vivian Ikem said they commit suicide due to depression, yet policies on mental challenges remain archaic. He said the Mental Health Act, enacted in the 1900s, was last reviewed in 1959 despite medical improvements made over the years. “Our laws should keep up with current situations, but we have remained static, the way we were in 1959,” he said. Adeyemi described the book as “spectacular”, praising the author for “coming to help” those in the field of psychiatry. According to him, it is difficult to get depression patients to accept the fact of their illnesses. Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, represented by General Manager, Lagos Television, Deji Balogun, said the issue of mental health has not received the attention it deserves. According to him, the symptoms of depression could easily be observed, yet people turn a blind eye to the plight of victims, with attendant costs on the economy. National Leader of All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu described the author as a woman of “excellent intellect” and “unmatchable lucidity.” Represented by Mr. Sunday Dare, Tinubu said depression was a global problem, with 400 million people suffering from it, 12 per cent (48million) of which are Nigerians. The former Lagos State governor said for the author, a Ph.D holder in Chemical Engineering, to write so convincingly about a field of medicine shows her “intellectual discipline, curiosity and intellectual responsibility.” Recommending the book to everyone, he said: “We all have a role to play as family and as friends in helping those who suffer from depression.” The author said she began writing the book in October 2013. She concluded it in January this year. Having suffered from depression, she felt she needed to help others. “I am happy that life gave me lemons, but I’m able to make lemonade out of it,” she said. According to her, many do not realise they are going through depression. She called for more sensitivity and compassion for depressed persons. Reading from Page 146 of the 162-page book, she said: “I have a dream today! That one day, stigma against depression will be a thing of the past; that many will come to see depression not just as sadness but as a serious illness, and that lives will be made fuller through quality care and accessible treatments. “I have a dream today! That one day communities worldwide, big and small, will know that depression is widespread; that the issue of mental health will be on the lips of the young and old; and that governments and other organisations will put more funds aside for depression and mental health research in general. “I have a dream today! That one day more objective methods of diagnosing depression will be developed; that screening tests for depression in men and women will be made available; and that preventive measures will be widely implemented and practiced…” Among guests at the event were renowned essayist Prof Adebayo Williams, former Commissioner in Lagos Engr Dapo Ashafa and Dr Femi Hamsat; wife of late politician Engr Funso Williams, Hilda; and General Overseer of the Redeemed Evangelical Mission, Bishop Mike Okonkwo, represented by Rev Akintola Oni. |

(Another naija disgrace) Yinusa's barrister Neville Rudston described her as 'desperate' and said: 'It is popularly seen as a monstrous act. The enormity of the consequences should have been clear. The reality is they weren't. 'It was an outburst of anger, albeit she had a great deal to be angry about, it's an outburst. 'She says it and then she was stuck with it, she didn't have the robustness or strength to say 'no I take it back' and that's why it turned out as badly as it did.' He added: 'It's an extraordinary case of a young woman of good character who found herself committing an extraordinarily serious offence, it's inexplicable in many ways.' Mr Rudston told the court that the defendant has 'her own difficulties and her own issues' and that she 'self-medicated' by abusing cocaine. She also suffers from rheumatoid arthritis and has a caution for shoplifting. Judge Rook told her she would be sentenced on Friday for making the false rape claim. He said: 'It does concern me that I don't have a medical report on you as sadly you have been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. 'For that reason I am going to adjourn your sentence to Friday afternoon.' Yinusa was granted bail until sentencing. Her ex-boyfriend Mr Umezie told the hearing she was crying when she made the initial allegation. He added: 'She used to be immature but now she's more responsible.' Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari allegedly barred Vice President Yemi Osinbajo from attending a national security meeting this week. Osinbajo was apparently refused "security clearance" and “locked out” of Buhari’s first briefing with the national security adviser on the president’s orders, Nigerian online newspaper the Trent reported. Buhari allegedly excluded his vice president from the closed-door briefing due to security concerns over Osinbajo attending the “very sensitive meeting.” Buhari apparently felt it was too early in the day to bring Osinbajo, the former Lagos state attorney general and senior pastor, into his first briefing with the security chief, a top government source told the Trent on Wednesday. The exclusive meeting on Monday with National Security Adviser Sambo Dasuki and other security officials lasted for hours and was part of the “debriefing process,” sources told Nigerian newspaper the Daily Trust. Buhari was informed on the security situation in Nigeria, where the Islamist militant group Boko Haram has killed and displaced thousands of people in the last six years. “They need to brief the president on the security situation in their various areas. They need to update him officially on the situation on ground,” a presidential aide told the Daily Trust on Tuesday. The meeting comes after the president announced the relocation of the anti-insurgency command center from the capital city Abuja to Maiduguri, the Borno state capital that has suffered a series of deadly attacks in recent days including suicide bombings and a grenade bombardment. More than 50 people have been killed in Maiduguri since Buhari was inaugurated on May 29. The president said the command center would remain in the Borno state capital until the insurgents were restrained. “The command center will be relocated to Maiduguri and remain until Boko Haram is completely subdued. But we cannot claim to have defeated Boko Haram without rescuing the Chibok girls and all other innocent persons held hostage by insurgents,” Buhari said during his inauguration speech on May 29. Prior to his inauguration, Buhari expressed dismay that former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration had withheld information and refused to brief the incoming government. The party-elect All Progressives Congress slammed the outgoing People's Democratic Party for hindering a smooth transition one week before the presidential inauguration, Premium Times reported. |
