The All Progressives Congress (APC) has exercised a U-turn in its position on the development at the National Assembly on Tuesday. State Security Service (SSS) operatives were joined by police officers to prevent lawmakers from accessing the parliament for several hours on Tuesday morning. Following widespread media attention and outrage from Nigerians, as well as attempts by furious lawmakers to break into the premises, the security agents ultimately allowed access to the National Assembly. But the access was only granted to serving lawmakers. All other members of staff at the National Assembly, as well as journalists and other independent observers were denied entry. The siege lasted until late afternoon when SSS operatives stood down after receiving reports that Acting President Yemi Osinbajo did not authorise the deployment and had fired the director-general of the secret police, Lawal Daura, as a consequence. The APC joined other individuals, groups and even foreign diplomatic missions to condemn the attack on Tuesday night. The party described the security agencies’ action at the time as an “unfortunate invasion” and dissociated itself from “any act of brigandage and affront on the sacred symbols of our budding democracy.” But this morning, another statement came in from the party, which essentially contradicted its position yesterday. The party said Mr Saraki was the one who orchestrated the plot, and that security agencies only moved in to prevent any outbreak of violence. The APC statements, the first at 6:41 p.m. on Tuesday and the second at 8:02 a.m. on Wednesday are reproduced respectively as follows: APC Condemns National Assembly Invasion The All Progressives Congress (APC) condemns in strongest terms, today’s unfortunate invasion of the National Assembly by security forces. Our Party wholly dissociates itself from any act of brigandage and affront on the sacred symbols of our budding democracy. Our Party remains a law abiding political organisation and advises every constituent part to abide by the tenets of our constitution and our democracy. Whilst our contention with the leadership of the National Assembly as currently constituted is a matter of public record, we still believe that the legislature as an independent arm of government must be allowed free reign for vibrant contestation of ideas and values amongst its members within the context of their constitutional mandate and for the benefit of the Nigerian people. We call for a more harmonious working relationship between the various Arms of Government in the general interest of the country. SIGNED: Mr. Yekini Nabena Ag. National Publicity Secretary How Security Operatives Stopped Saraki’s Plan to Foment Violence over Impeachment Following Tuesday’s incident at the National Assembly, our investigations have now uncovered the sinister plot hatched by the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki to foment violence in the legislative chamber all in a bid to stop his impeachment. Our investigations uncovered and noted the following: We are now aware that the timely intervention of the security operatives forestalled the planned violence which could have led to possible deaths, injuries and destruction of property in the National Assembly on Tuesday. Why did the Senate President mobilise thugs to the National Assembly who almost lynched Hon. E.J. Agbonayinma, the only APC federal lawmaker present but for the timely intervention of security operatives. Why did the Senate President reconvene the National Assembly? Ostensibly as a pre-emptive move to frustrate federal lawmakers move to impeach him. Is it not curious that only Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) federal lawmakers were present in their numbers-some as early as 7am, while the majority APC federal lawmakers were elsewhere holding a caucus meeting on the state of the nation. We call on security agencies and relevant bodies to as a matter of urgency probe these findings and take all necessary and legitimate action to stop these illegalities which pose a direct and ominous threat to our democracy. As espoused in our earlier statement, whilst our contention with the leadership of the National Assembly as currently constituted is a matter of public record, we still believe that the legislature as an independent arm of government must be allowed free reign for vibrant contestation of ideas and values amongst its members within the context of their constitutional mandate and for the benefit of the Nigerian people. Finally, we reiterate our call for the Senate President to resign from the position immediately as he no longer has the moral and legitimate ground to occupy that position as a member of the minority PDP. Going by the popular axiom, ‘the majority will have their way, but the minority will have their say’. SIGNED: Mr. Yekini Nabena Ag. The Rivers state Governor, Nyesom Wike has arrived Ilorin, the Kwara state capital, for official and pro-Nigeria engagements. Wike is accompanied by Senator George Sekibo, Senator Adawari Pepple and the member Representing Tai/Eleme/Oyigbo Federal Constituency, Dr Barry Mpigi. He is attending a meeting in Kwara state with his Benue counterpart, Governor Samuel Ortom who recently announced his resignation from the All Progressives Congress, APC, for a yet-to-be-determined political party. The two governors are attending a meeting with Senate President Bukola Saraki and the Kwara state Governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed. Recall that the Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki, who had earlier visited Wike in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, was yesterday welcomed in Ilorin, Kwara state, by a mammoth crowd on his first visit to the State after his vindication by the Supreme Court over false assets declaration charges. http://dailypost.ng/2018/07/18/breaking-wike-ortom-meet-saraki-kwara/ |
Mohammed Ibrahim Idris, the son of a former Governor of Kogi state, Ibrahim Idris, has defected to the opposition People’s Democratic Party. Mohammed left PDP in 2016 for the ruling All Progressives Congress. Announcing his decision on Wednesday in Seke, his ancestral home ward, Mohammed Idris said that he returned to the party nine months ago and was merely formalising his membership. He said that his decision was due to his renewed conviction that the All Progressives Party has failed the people, both at the federal and (Kogi) state levels. Mohammed, who left the party in 2016, said that the ruling APC had sank to a level where it was “beyond redemption” and will not be able to “regain the confidence the people had” in them and which brought them to power. He vowed to work closely with the leadership of the party to ensure it returns to power in the state come 2019. http://punchng.com/ex-kogi-gov-idris-son-leaves-apc-for-pdp/ |

Babachir Lawal, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), says Governor Bindo Jibrilla of Adamawa State has no electoral value to give President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019. Lawal made this assertion in a statement where he evaluated Buhari’s chances in winning Adamawa State in the next general election. Arguing that the governor would find it difficult even to retain his seat as governor, the former SGF pointed out that Jibrilla needed somebody to help him. He advised the presidency not to dissipate resources on Governor Jibrilla because he could not win a local government in Adamawa in a free and fair election. Lawal, an engineer, who served as SGF under President Muhammadu Buhari, revealed that if Buhari must win the elections in 2019, someone, except Jibrilla, should lead his campaign in the North East. According to him, as part of the governor’s game plan to hold onto the exalted seat, he recently appointed eight special assistants to help him, despite monumental failure and siphoning of almost N198.9 billion on shady contracts on fraudulent roads projects. The former SGF added that the appointments were deliberate plans to eliminate Christians in the state. Making reference to the recent appointment of eight Muslims as special assistants, Babachir said “such actions are capable of undermining APC’s chances and swinging votes towards the opposition.” “Governor Jibrilla is out to sabotage the chances of APC to win the 2019 elections in Adamawa State through his deliberate and calculated plans to sideline Christians in his government. “This is in spite of the protestations and advice of well-meaning party stakeholders and the state chapter of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) for him to mend his evil ways. “Just this week, he again insulted the sensibility of Christians in the state through the appointment and swearing-in of eight special advisers into his cabinet. All the new special advisers are again Moslems. https://www.today.ng/news/politics/2019-governor-jibrilla-deliver-adamawa-president-buhari-babachir-lawal-132141?utm_source=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.today.ng%2Ffeed&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=todayng “Governor Jibrilla should remember that he was elected to office by all Adamawa indigenes without consideration of religious beliefs and tendencies, but he has clearly shown that he wants to fester religious agenda in Adamawa State to destroy votes for Buhari in 2019.” He added that since the governor had less than 10 months to remain in office, “all well-meaning people to reject him during the primaries as he would crash APC’s chances in 2019.” |

Three northern governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are on their way to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) any moment from now, TheCable understands. As many as 30 senators and 70 members of the house of representatives are expected to follow suit before the national assembly goes on recess in the next two weeks. The potential defectors are members of the “reformed” faction of APC that recently emerged. Most of them were in the PDP before defecting to APC under the aegis of “new PDP” in 2013. Aminu Tambuwal, governor of Sokoto state, Abdulfatah Ahmed (Kwara), and Samuel Ortom (Benue) are in the “first batch” of big guns expected to defect, an insider has told TheCable. “The plan also is that some APC governors will not defect but will remain behind to inflict maximum damage on the party from within,” a southern governor informed TheCable on Monday. Tambuwal is rumoured to harbour a presidential ambition while Ahmed, who is coming to the end of his second term in Kwara, is expected to run for the senate. “Ortom, on his own part, has been guaranteed safe return to the PDP by Senator David Mark. He is considered the best bet in the circumstance as the incumbent governor, and he can leave the party to George Akume,” another inside, who attended some of the strategy sessions, told TheCable. Senate President Bukola Saraki is also expected to return to the PDP and is reported to be nursing a presidential ambition — bolstered by the recent supreme court judgment which freed him of criminal charges over allegations of false asset declaration. Following the series of crisis that hit the ruling party at the state congresses in June, some of the APC governors and lawmakers who lost out have been guaranteed automatic tickets by the PDP to entice them to the party. APC currently controls 24 states while PDP has 11 and All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) one. If the three governors defect as planned, PDP will increase to 14 while APC will reduce to 21. https://www.thecable.ng/exclusive-three-northern-apc-governors-heading-pdp |
Alhaji Haruna Saeed, a former governorship aspirant in Kaduna State on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially dumped the party. He formally joined the Social Democratic Party (SDP) on Thursday. Saeed picked the SDP card at his Kajuru ward in Kajuru Local Government Area of the state. In a chat with journalists, Saeed recalled how he helped to promote the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in Kaduna. “I played a vital role in APC as a dominant player but the activities of the party in the state have left so much to be desired. Because of that, all efforts that we have made to see that things changed have been in vain. “Some of us are not being considered as members of the party. Whatever we said seem not to be listened too. Whatever we asked for is never considered,” he said. Saeed, however, hinted that he would make himself available for any position SDP would offer him ahead of the 2019 general election. http://www.thebreakingpostng.com/politics/another-top-apc-chieftain-dumps-apc-joins-sdp-in-kaduna/ |
Babies are being hacked to death. Children kidnapped. Women raped and savaged. Young and old burned alive. Houses destroyed, livestock plundered. Muslim herdsmen are massacring their Christian neighbors while the Nigerian media misreports and the Nigerian government refuses to act. Some even claim the government is complicit in these attacks. President Buhari, as the watching, worldwide community, we appeal to you to act decisively and put an end to this horror. Right now, sir, many believe there is blood on your hands. Please show the world that this is not true. A Christian colleague texted me from Nigeria on June 25: Did yesterday’s killing of over 200 in plateau state make the news? Babies chopped to death. Charred bodies loaded into trucks and buried in mass graves. Many missing including my host’s friend. Herdsman to blame. Weeping here. I could only shake my head in sadness. Not a word about the slaughter in our media. While these Nigerian Christians weep, the West remains in the dark. Blog Posts From Nigeria Five days later, on June 30, I received an email Prof. Gerald McDermott, a respected educator and Anglican Church leader. He sent me a series of his recent blog posts from Nigeria, where he has been ministering in recent days. Here is a sampling of his blogs from Jos, a city in the Middle Belt of the country. These are posted here with the encouragement and support of Prof. McDermott. June 25: Jos has been the epicenter of conflict between the Islamic and Christian civilizations in Africa. Anglican Archbishop Ben Kwashi, revered by Christians and Muslims alike here, had his church burned a few years ago by Muslims. Thugs came to kill him but savaged his wife instead, leaving her near dead. Christians here complain that the government does not do enough to fight the terrorists, who are divided between Fulani and Boko Haram. The president of Nigeria is both Muslim and Fulani, so Christians here wonder if that is why the government does nothing. Many police and army officers, we are told, want to search aggressively for the bad guys but do not get permission from their superiors. June 27: The Christians in Jos live in fear. Last week terrorists targeted several villages just outside Jos. All were well-known as Christian villages. The houses were razed, crops destroyed, and people burned alive. Their charred corpses were heaped in piles of blackened bodies. This is absolutely outrageous. But it gets worse: Christians here are incensed that the Nigerian president is telling the world that the explanation for this brutality is conflict between Fulani herdsman and farmers. As a Nigerian headline put it, “Bukhari [the president] says 300 Fulani cows were stolen.” In other words, the Fulani herdsmen retaliated because their cows were stolen. But reliable reports on the ground refute this. The Fulani herdsman, who are Muslims, have lived in peace with their Christian neighbors for decades. Also, they cried out “Allahu akbar [Allah is great]!” as they swooped in upon these villages with death and terror. The real story, Christians tell me, is that Islamists from other countries (like Niger and possibly Saudi Arabia) have radicalized previously-peaceful Muslim herdsmen. And the government, which is controlled by a Muslim administration, is taking advantage of this to consolidate its hold on this Middle Belt of Nigeria. Right now Jos is majority-Christian. But if the government can use these radicals to drive Christians out, Jos can become a majority-Muslim area. And what does the world media say about this? The world media is reporting this as an “ethnic clash.” Some call it ethnic cleansing. But it is really religious cleansing. As Anglican Archbishop Ben Kwashi . . . told us yesterday, a mere “clash” does not murder women and children. And note that Archbishop Kwashi is not some marginal player. He was just elected the general secretary of the Global Anglican Futures Conference. He himself has been threatened with death, his cattle have been stolen, and his own wife raped and left half-dead. Need for International Pressure June 28: Just a few days ago 300 Christians were killed when Muslim terrorists targeted several Christian villages on the outskirts of Jos. Jos has always been mostly Christian and has been coveted by Muslims for generations. It is one of the best places in Nigeria to live, and has always resisted Muslim encroachments. Now, with a Muslim president and Muslims in control of the army and every branch of government, Muslims feel emboldened. . . . More disturbing to Christians, who are still the majority of not only Jos but also Nigeria as a whole, is that top government and army offices are infiltrated by Boko Haram, the Muslim terrorist movement that has slain thousands of Christians and several years ago kidnapped hundreds of Christian girls. Some have never been returned. When President Obama offered intelligence and technological help to Bukhari to find and destroy the Boko Haram kidnappers, Bukhari refused the help. Knowledgeable Christians here tell me that Bukhari himself has ties with Boko Haram. Then this closing appeal: Only international pressure on Bukhari will change anything. So if you are reading this and can get a message to your government leaders in the States or UK, please do so. And pray for the Christians in Jos. They covet your prayers. Three Ways to Take Action To each one reading this article, I beg of you to do three things: 1) Share this article with others and do your best to bring it to the attention of your national government. 2) Pray for these persecuted Christians, who are standing strong in the midst of hellish attacks. Their dedication rebukes our spiritual complacency in the West. 3) Pray that President Buhari and his administration would do the right thing and that these Fulani herdsmen would come to saving faith. Can we sit idly by while our brothers and sisters suffer such unspeakable atrocities? https://stream.org/president-buhari-please-stop-muslim-slaughter-nigerian-christians/ |

Less than three weeks before the Ekiti State governorship election, members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) have accused the Department of State Services (DSS) of harassing them to support the All Progressives Congress candidate, Dr. Kayode Fayemi. The State Chairmen of NURTW and RTEAN, Comrade Clement Adekola and Mr. Rotimi Agbede, said on Tuesday, while speaking with journalists that they were curious that four of their members were summoned to a meeting by the Director of DSS in Ado Ekiti on Monday. Apart from Adekola and Agbede, who were invited, the DSS was said to have sent invitation to other members: Diya Ajayi, Lawrence Ologunja, Ayo Ajetomobi and one Ojo. They alleged that the purpose of the meeting was for the DSS to convey what was described as “message from above” on the need for them to back out from supporting the Peoples Democratic Party’s governorship candidate, Prof. Kolapo Olusola, and switch support to the APC candidate. The drivers unions however said they would not be forced to support a candidate against their wish, saying “Governor Ayodele Fayose has done so much for the state and our unions; we must pay him back by supporting his party’s candidate.” The unions added, “Most importantly, the APC candidate was responsible for crisis in the drivers unions, when he was governor. It was during his tenure that one of our foremost leaders, Chief Omolafe Aderiye, was murdered in cold blood and we do not want a return of bloody clashes among our members, which was common when Fayemi was governor.” Calling on security agencies to maintain neutrality before, during and after the July 14 election, the drivers unions said, “Ekiti people must be allowed to choose their governor in a free, fair and credible election. “Anything other than that will be inviting chaos into the state and students of politics in Nigeria can still remember what happened in 1983 when those controlling power at the center tried to force a governor on Ondo State. We are sure no one wants a repeat of such.” The groups called on all well-meaning Nigerians to prevail on security agencies to avoid being used to subvert the will of Ekiti people and put democracy at risk, “bearing in mind that the Ekiti State election will serve as a prelude to what to expect in 2019.” https://www.thisdaylive.com/index.php/2018/06/26/ekiti-election-transport-unions-allege-intimidation-by-security-agency/ |

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo says the government of President Muhammadu Buhari is daily perfecting plans on how to curtail his personal liberties and hang a crime on him. Obasanjo said this on Friday in a statement released on his behalf by Kehinde Akinyemi, his spokesman. He said a part of the plan was to seize his International passport and clamp him into detention indefinitely, in order to prevent him from further expressing angst on the pervasive mediocrity in the quality of governance, economic management and in the protection of lives and property by the government. Obasanjo added that since that could expose the government to a swath of international condemnation, embarrassment and outrage, it is said that another plot being hatched is to cause the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to re-open investigation into the activities of Chief Obasanjo’s administration using false witnesses and documents. Obasanjo said he would not have raised the alarm were it not for the ongoing victimization of Speaker Yakubu Dogara of the House of Representatives and Senate President Bukola Saraki. THE STATEMENT Impeccable security sources have alleged Chief Obasanjo’s name is on their watch list and that the security of his life cannot be guaranteed,” read the statement. According to these informants, many of who are in the top echelon of the nation’s security management and close to the corridors of power, the operatives are daily perfecting how to curtail the personal liberties of the former president and hang a crime on him. “Ordinarily, we would not have dignified these reports with a response but for the fact that many of these informants are not known for flippant and frivolous talks. Secondly, this Government has demonstrably exhibited apathy, and in some cases, encouraged by its conduct, daily loss of lives and property in many States of the country, the office cannot be indifferent. We are currently in a nation where the Number Three citizen is currently being harangued and the Number Four citizen is facing similar threat within the same Government they serve. There is a groundswell of our nationals that live in fear that they could be hounded, harassed, maimed or even killed as the battle for 2019 takes this worrisome dimension,” he said. For Chief Obasanjo, this is a joke carried too far and being someone who do not act on unofficial information, he had cautioned all informants and adopted a wait-and-see attitude to the bestial propositions allegedly being contemplated to cow, cage and embarrass him. The content of the alleged beastly designs, it was learnt are two-fold for now. One, to seize his International Passport and clamp him into detention indefinitely, in order to prevent him from further expressing angst on the pervasive mediocrity in the quality of governance, economic management and in the protection of lives and property by the government. But, since that could expose the government to a swath of international condemnation, embarrassment and outrage, it is said that another plot being hatched is to cause the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to re-open investigation into the activities of Chief Obasanjo’s administration using false witnesses and documents. This will be a re-enactment of the Abacha era in which Chief Obasanjo was one of the principal victims. The same EFCC that had conducted a clinical investigation on the activities of Obasanjo in and out of Government, it was said, would now be made to stand down the existing report that gave Chief Obasanjo a clean bill of health on the probes are now to get him indicted, fair or foul for possible prosecution and persecution like it is being done to real and perceived opponents, enemies and critics of this government. http://saharareporters.com/2018/06/08/breaking-buhari-wants-hang-crime-me-and-detain-me-indefinitely-says-obasanjo |
Twenty-seven (27) trucks of security personnel from different outfits have been drafted to Chikun local government area of Kaduna state to maintain law and order in the re-scheduled local government election in the area, following an attack launched by some angry protesters on two lawmakers allegedly caught with electoral materials. The accused lawmakers are House of Representatives member, Abubakar Mohammed Mamadi and Member of Kaduna State House of Assembly, Mark Yari. Hundreds of voters in the area protested that the lawmakers, from the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, allegedly came to steal their mandates. The gate of the Chikun local government secretariat was brought down by the rampaging protesters, who claimed that their preferred party, the PDP had won the polls but was robbed of the mandate. In an interview with DAILY POST, Hon. Yari said he was innocent, describing the allegation as the handiwork of the opposition, saying that he was molested with an undisclosed amount of money stolen from him by the mob. However, an eyewitness, who pleaded anonymity, told our correspondent that the lawmakers escorted by the police, were planning to do away with the results sheets meant for the area and were intercepted by the youth. The West African examinations council (WAEC) has described as “altered and invalid” the results and certificate belonging to the chairman, special presidential investigative panel for the recovery of property, Okoi Obono-Obla, which was allegedly issued by the examination body. WAEC Testifying before the house of representatives a-hoc panel investigating Obono-Obla's alleged forgery, WAEC registrar, represented by the deputy registrar, Femi Ola told the committee that available evidence indicate that the results were altered and therefore makes them invalid. The deputy registrar further explained that the genuine candidate is Ofem Okoi Ofem with certificate number 09403/247 of Mary Knoll college, Ogoja, cross river state. The exam number and number of subjects are the same. The difference is the grade in English literature in which Obla claimed to have scored c6 despite being marked absent in the true, certified copy. The chairman of the investigative panel, Harman Pategi lauded WAEC for striving to maintain what he calls integrity and probity as he added that the implication is that Obono-Obla gained admission to the university of jos with a fake WAEC result. The committee adjourned, promising to leave no stone unturned in doing what is right for the benefit of Nigerians. http://www.aitonline.tv/post-waec_faults_obono_obla_s_certificate_ |
