ABUJA, Sept 26 (Reuters) - Nigeria’s government has asked parliament to amend its spending law to enable a debt program to settle 2.7 trillion naira ($8.6 bln) worth of obligations including pensions and salary arrears, according to a letter from Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

The letter, read out in the Senate on Tuesday, requested amendments to the law, which stipulates allocation of government spending, to allow Nigeria to fund recurrent expenditure from proceeds of the debt rather than just capital projects.

Nigeria’s Fiscal Responsbility Act states that proceeds of government borrowings can only be applied towards capital expenditure. Osinbajo said the amendment was to provide the legal backing for the use of the debt to meet the obligations.

The vice president sent the letter to the Senate last month while President Muhammadu Buhari was on medical leave in Britain. The letter was read out after the Senate reconvened following a seven-week recess.

Africa’s biggest economy grew out of recession in the second quarter as oil revenues rose, but the pace of growth was slow, suggesting the recovery is fragile.

Osinbajo’s letter said the obligations had become inimical to government plans to revive the economy through the provision of modern infrastructure and settle pension and salary arrears dating back five years.

Finance Minister Kemi Adeosun has said the government plans to refinance $3 billion worth of treasury bills denominated in naira with dollar borrowing to lower costs and improve its debt position. ($1 = 314.50 naira) (Writing by Chijioke Ohuocha; Editing by Alexis Akwagyiram/Mark Heinrich)

He did his Youth Service in Yola Adamawa State from 1995-1996 and was not given a Discharge Certificate till date.

During his School days, he was a Secret Cult-Installed SUG President bearing the nickname "SHOW BOY".

He used members of his cult group to harass the whole School in guise of fighting Cultism. He kept a torture cyber where opposing members were allegedly dehumanized with hot iron, chained like criminals and beaten to pulp.

When things got out of control, all the Confraternities summoned a meeting at "ONE IN TOWN(OIT)" a popular restaurant within the vicinity of the UNILAG School Main Gate.

A day after the meeting, Sowore accompanied with his Killer Squad was heading to Eni Njoku Hall, on a mission to abduct and torture an Innocent Student whom he allegedly had misunderstanding with over a Girl, while threatening the Boy in question, he was Surrounded, Beaten, Stripped Naked and Dragged to the freedom square podium (The First Landing of Makama Bida Hall Fire Escape).

He sold the Story to "Human Rights Community" that he was attacked by Cultist and Injected With Lead Poison and that he needed money to travel abroad to flush the lead out of his system.

It will interest you to know that," lead is absorbed into the blood stream through gastrointestinal tract or lungs and It is soluble in water, lead is only soluble in acid or alkaline, which can bring about tissue damage.

His Story was bought and he duped the Unsuspecting Human Rights Communities into releasing funds for him, which he used to travel to The United States, claiming he traveled for treatment and then established Sahara Reporter with the aim to start blackmailing and forceful extortion of money from people.

It is not news again that a testimony by former inspector general of police, Sir Mike Okiro has been going round the town again where in the statement he said "Omoyele Sowore rapped a UNILAG Female Student when he was still schooling in the institution, I arrested him when I was the Surulere area commander of police of the Nigerian police force,  I prosecuted him and he jumped bail"

In another expose by Olu Williams, who claimed to have been a UNILAG student, stated that Sowore was a student union leader, accused him of having “a dirty past.” He went on to detail specific allegations against Sowore.

The specific allegations are as follows:

That Sowore had a dirty past, specifically stating that as a student of University of Lagos (UNILAG) in 1991/1992 session, Sowore was the Student Union Government President who lived a questionable life and refused to hand over in 1993 until he disgracefully forced out.

Olu Williams narrated that he and many other students at the University of Lagos were aware of how Sowore was arrested by Mike Okiro when Okirowas Surulere Area Commander in a case of rape, in which he raped a female student who is now married with two kids. That Okiro prosecuted him, and he jumped bail with the help of some notable politicians who have been using him when he was the SUG President.

Olu William also said that Sowore do not have the moral right to write against corruption in Nigeria because while he was a UNILAG SUG President, there were cases of financial recklessness which enmeshed him in corruption, he said one of the reasons he was forced out as a President then was that Sowore was using his position as SUG President to dupe parents and students who were seeking admission into the University, he was so notorious that when confronted he usually sent his boys to harass them,  the news became disturbing to hisexcos and the University management under Dean Student Affairs.

There was another popular fraud case againstSowore then, when he purchased student’s buses for transportation, it was discovered that Sowore and the then Financial Secretary inflated the price of the buses, other members of his cabinet who sensed that something was fishy went on independent verification and later found out the fraud, were very angry with Sowore's conducts and there were many other of fraud cases in the union’s finances whichSowore could not account for, he also swindled the Civil Liberties Organization (CLO) and eloped to the USA where he went on to establish his Sahara Reporters he is now using as a blackmail tool against people.

In 2008 Barrister Emeka Uguonye who used to be a Councel At The Nigeria Embassy In The United States, received series of petitions against Omoyele Sowore for for character deformation, fraud and extortion on questioning Sowore he saw it as an attempt to attack his Media and Personality, he used his media against Barrister Emeka Uguonye by coming up with the headline "Nigeria Government Takes On Barrister Emeka Ugwuonye, It's Former Lawyer To Court and as well saying that, Barrister Ugwuonye's Family lineage had mental problems.

On seeing this, Barrister Emeka Uguonye sued Omoyele Sowore to Maryland Federal District Court, for defamation of Character as well as expose his evil ordeal.

One of the ordeals was bribing and extortion of money from the former EFCC Chairlady "Farida Wasiri"through Femi Babafemi the EFCC spokesman.

When the news of been given a house worth five million dollars ($5 Million) by APC leader Bola Tinubu circulated Sahara Reporters Partners like Adeola Fayehun complained to Close Relatives of how Omoleye Sowore has shortchanged them in deals with Oppositions Politicians and Declared Peanuts.

The former Governor of Rivers State Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi handed over to Omoloye Sowore, a House In Maitama bought with an undisclosed amount to the public, during the APC Election Campaign of 2015.

The truth can not be hidden for too long,  the intention of Sowore's Sahara Reporters is not to provide information worthy journalism to Nigerians but a fraudulent way of rising to stardom by defaming and blackmailing people. Nigerians must stay awake.

Hello my social media friends and family,

So recently, about 9 months ago, I was introduced into trading in cryptocurency by a team member of mine, actually my second generation in a business I have promoted for over a year, onelife/Onecoin. This team member introduced me to the trading company called Tradecoin club aka TCC

I was made to understand that the company trades on volatility of the cryptocurency market. Thus you invest in them, using bitcoin and get to earn a certain amount of bitcoin daily, based on the trading of each day. I thought it was a good idea to acquire bitcoin without paying the exorbitant amount for the currency at its then price of $800 at the time.

Now the only way you could invest in the company was through a sponsor, or a referral.. In which case mine now was my friend Adaego onunoju. She also made me understand that investing 5 bitcoins would give me the opportunity to be a founding member at the time, as well as being able to share from the profits of the company. Great investment right? So yes I went ahead and invested in the company.. And made it clear to my sponsor that I would not be promoting TCC, being that I was on Onecoin already, and she confirmed it was OK, that the terms and conditions had no issues with that. Besides as the name implies, TRADECOIN CLUB…They Trade, not mine and not a cryptocurrency either.

Upon activating my Account with the company TCC, plans were to increase my stakes from my earnings, as I understand the power of compounding in business, and that is exactly what I did. I compounded my investment to 40 bitcoin with TCC.

This then increased my potential earnings from 25btc to 200btc within my contract period. I had planned to increase my investment to 50btc at least, until the news came out after the company's May Macau event of non refund of capital invested.

Now interesting thing is that some charges from the company were left out, upon registration, charges like 8% for each withdrawal made, 25% on tax every quarter and most importantly that your initial investment capital was never going to be returned to you. I believe that this was conveniently left out, get unsuspecting people to join the company.. I do recall being told that our initial investment would be returned at the end of the contract.

So trading went on as it should have and my first rude shock was a debit of over 1.4 Btc as tax, which I went online and confirmed as being 25% of my earnings from the company at the time. I also found out that this was going to be deducted every quarter.. Waoh that will bring my total tax withdrawal in a year to 100% of my earnings, so what's left then? Also my curiosity arose more being that TCC is a Belize registered company, and tax is not paid in this jurisdiction. Besides if anyone must pay tax, isn't it me to my country??

Like I said earlier, a lot of changes were made, some of which included the changes on capital invested, not being returned, change on compensation plan of the company, this didn't bother me, as I didn't promote the company, only thing that bothered me was on the terms and conditions being changed.. In which they also stated in the new terms and conditions that they could do so at any time without prior information to their investors. Also about shutting down their system completely without any prior knowledge to investors too.

All of this came to light after their May Macau event. This brought about such sour taste and negativity to not only me, but most investors in the Nigerian market as well, who were misinformed upon investing in TCC

On 1st July, a got a call from a friend, who had invested in TCC, asking about a red alert line appearing on his dashboard stating that he had zero bitcoin remaining guarantees. Being that I was not into promoting the business, I contacted my sponsor to explain what that meant, and she insisted I sent her a mail with a screen shut of the friends back office, showing total earnings as well as username. She also asked me to do same with my dashboard, being that I had a similar problem. I went ahead and sent my friends Acc info as requested, but intentionally left out mine, for reasons, based on the previous incidences of her using my account information to poach on members from the previous business we were in together.

Well as expected Ada, my sponsor asked me why I didn't send my back office screen shot showing my TOTAL EARNINGS and I responded, being that it's same problem, then let's stick to her using my friends Acc to get the problem resolved. Well, my sponsor never got back to me on this issue. I had to call up another friend and business partner Alex, who explained what the problem was.

On the 5th of July I logged into my Acc and had a total of about 7btc available for me to withdraw, but I decided to wait till the next day to do so.
So come 6th July, 2017, I tried to log into my trading account with TCC, and to my surprise I could not. I then got a constant alert that my account was blocked, and I should contact the compliance unit of the company, which I did immediately through my email. I also noticed an email from the company stating that my account had been suspended. Find attached screen shuts.


I contacted my sponsor, Ada, and she claimed being too busy to meet with me, even after finally convincing her to meet me, I asked for her office address and up till date, I am yet to get that from her.

Precisely 12 days after, I contacted the CEO of the company directly, Joff Paradise, and his first response was that he was eating with his kids. I waited patiently for him to get back to me, and he did nothing. 24 hours later, I contacted him again, and attached was what transpired. See attached screenshot of discussion, as well as a screenshot of his saved number, for your confirmation.

Joff paradise stated in his chat that
1- I didn't pay for tax, which I did
2- I had 2 account, in which I only have 1
3- evidence of promoting another business, which to my knowledge, was not a problem when I invested in the coy TCC.

Tradecoin club idea was sold to me as a cryptocurency trading company, and not a cryptocurency. My understanding of an investment in a trading company is likened to you having a fixed or term deposit with a bank, in which the bank trades with your invested funds and you get agreed upon interest payments for the duration of your contracts. Now if this be the case, is there any part of such contracts or agreements that states that you must promote the bank, or get customers for the bank before you can get your returns on investments or interests

I have had a banking experience and know for certain, no such things happen..

According to TCC Co founder, Joff Paradise, it would take about 45 days for the company to respond to my email, in response to their blocking my account with the company. As at date, it's going to 90days.


90 days of not trading, 90 days of not having access to my 87 bitcoins on my TCC account, from a total investment of 40 bitcoin in this company, as a pioneer investor and founding member and share holder of the company. 90 days of no access to my account as top 200 leader/member of a company, who was given a free VIPs ticket and accommodation for the 26th May Macau event, as well as a VIP invitation for a recently concluded event in Belize.

I contacted their highest female earner, Kelei, who promised to speak to Joff in Belize, and after a few days, she contacts me, that it didn’t look good, and I had to take down some of my promotions of my businesses off my Facebook page, and that Joff had so much evidences on me for promoting another business.
Before this, from our previous discussions, she confirmed that a similar incidence had happened to her some months back, in which the company TCC blocked her account, after she made a video on buying her car with bitcoin and TBC (the billion coins). Fortunately for her, she got a letter from compliance, stating her defaults and given an opportunity to “cure”. After this incidence, her account with the company was opened, yet from her binary, 50 bitcoin was wiped off, which she is yet to get paid back from the company till date… so I truly expected Kelei after going through such injustice, would understand what I was going through, having my account blocked, and no access to my funds. However, that was not the case… Its amazing how people will still promote a company that is so unjust..

There are several others, whose accounts have been blocked for one reason or the other, as a means of the company keeping back their investors money, and one of such was Rob Harris, who recently had to do a video on youtube about his account with bitcoin worth over $200,000 (two hundred thousand dollars). Oh and yes, his account was finally opened for him to access, after he went on the social media, and Joff claiming he was for the people and not for the company… If Off is so for the people, why not hear me out? Why jump to unreasonable conclusions and eager to hold on to my account with 87 bitcoins.




According to their recent terms and conditions, find screenshot attached too, TCC stated that if within 30 days of your investing in the company, if the company finds out that you are promoting another business, they would block you, but would give you an opportunity to "cure". 90 days after my account has been blocked, I am still yet to get an acknowledgement  for the 2 emails sent to the company TCC, nor a response, nor an "opportunity to cure”.

A Lagos activist lawyer, Ebun-olu Adegboruwa, has called on Nnamdi Kanu the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to challenge the decision of the Federal High Court which proscribed him and the group.

According to a press release obtained by NAIJAINFORM.com, Adegboruwa also said there cannot be any legal entity in law referred to as IPOB as such entity does not exist in law.

He said: ”The Attorney-General of the Federation cannot competently sue IPOB as a defendant, in any court of law, the same being an entity unknown to law.

”The Court cannot make an order against a non existing entity, such as IPOB. Such order, if and when made, is at large and unenforceable.

”The Supreme Court has stated it times without number that the court cannot proceed against a non juristic person.

”The court, which is a creation of law to interpret the law, cannot competently proscribe what does not exist in the eye of the law.

‘If IPOB is registered in Nigeria at all, it can only sue and be sued in the corporate name of its incorporated trustees.

”The Hon Attorney-General, with all due respect, cannot file or maintain a suit in court against IPOB, in the manner formulated in this case.

”I urge Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and all those concerned to proceed to challenge the competence of the suit itself and the jurisdiction of the court to make the order.

Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption, Itse Sagay, has described the leadership of the All Progressives Congress, APC, as a failure.

Sagay, who made the declaration also maintained that the leadership style of the party is “lily-livered” and weak.

Speaking with The Nation, Sagay said, “As for the leadership of the APC, I think they are the most unprincipled group of people. They are lily-livered, weak, and cannot run any organisation. The whole party is collapsing under them.

“They cannot control anybody. In fact, they’re now encouraging and accepting ‘rogue elephants’, pampering people who are destroying the party, saying ‘let’s not annoy them too much’, but they’re destroying the APC house. So, I think the APC leadership is weak, is too compromising and is certainly a failure as far as I’m concerned.”

Sagay also stressed that the President Muhammadu Buhari reserves the exclusive prerogative to decide how long Ibrahim Magu remains as the Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

“Magu can act indefinitely. The Senate does not have jurisdiction in this matter. It is the President who does because of Section 171 of the Constitution. This government is being a bit gentle, not wanting to ruffle feathers. Maybe that’s why they’re politicians and in government.

“If people like me who are not politicians were there, these people (senators) would have heard a different message. I’d have rammed things through and damned them to go and do whatever they like, and let’s see who would come on top. I believe that ultimately, righteousness, a good cause, a belief in principle will prevail. We’re dealing with people who are undergoing all sorts of investigations; they cannot face the righteous,” he said

Omoyele Sowore Of Sahara Reporter, Rape Case At UNILAG, The Allegation That Remains Fresh

There’s no excuse for the use of force to take a gift bequeathed to any gender as regards sex. Rape which might be defined as sexual assault in its plainest form can also mean ‘to plunder or strip of resources’. Forcing someone to have sex with you against their will is a crime to the existence of that person. It debases the individual involved.

Rape isn’t gender specific but the most prevalent of rape cases are that of male orchestrated rape incidence.



The need for this write-up cannot be over emphasized as it has become a scourge in the society.

The lack of discretion and shame in which male engineered rape has become rampant leaves the mind worried.

Recently the case of secondary school students trying to rape their female contemporaries in the open is an issue that leaves the mind puzzled and the case of a young female teenager raped to death by some male suitors in her neighborhood, paints a horrid picture in the mind.

The situations are scary but what is more scary is the fact that up till now, there has been no scapegoat made of the culprits of the hideous acts; this as always been the case in Nigeria and I will use the case of the publisher of Sahara reporter, Omoyele Sowore as a case study.

Omoyele Sowore is the founder of the independent online investigative media outfit named Sahara reporters.

Just like the popular saying that he who wishes to shout equity must come with clean hands, the allegation of rape case against the publisher of Nigeria’s popular blogger Mr. Omoyele Swore has refused to go away.

Recall that former Inspector General of Police, Mike Okiro in a forum back then, made a pronouncement that Omoyele Sowore of the Sahara Reporters was once arrested for rape.

The statement made by the former police chief has since become a subject of discussion, controversy and has refused to die down in the news media.

Okiro alleged that Omoyele Sowore had raped a UNILAG female student who’s now married with two kids. “I arrested him when I was Surulere Area Commander of the Nigeria Police. I prosecuted him and he jumped bail”, said Mike Okiro, former Inspector General of Nigeria Police?

Sowore is a power house when it comes to online reporting and some of the revelations of the media outfit have been ground breaking. However, Mr. Omoyele once leveled an allegation against the former inspector general of police, Mike Okiro and Mr. Okiro did state that Mr. Omoyele Sowore was a rapist that he once arrested, jumped bail and is back with vendetta to nail him for his arrest.

Okiro actually gave a graphical detail of the crime, the circumstances and the state of the victim at the time.

Brick bats have been flung back and forth over this revelation. As the controversy rages, some have hinted that, the unprofessional conducts of the police may have made his criminal evading of arrest possible while others allege that Okiro must have been privy to Sowore’s bail-jumping stunt, while yet another segment insist that politics or not, a criminal must face justice no matter how long ago the crime was committed.

So far, Sowore has neither affirmed Okiro’s pronouncement nor denied it, thus making further speculations and controversies, rife.

Typical of Nigerians, we allowed sentiments cloud our minds as regards this rape allegation and sacrificed reason on the altar of political patronage; people accused the then ruling party of witch-hunt and the issue was swept under the carpet without Mr. Omoyele Sowore denying it affirmatively.

This is how society enables rapists and empowers young males to believe once they can cheat the legal system and end up successful, they can get away with rape accusations, even when such accusations are made by ex- principal officers like Mike Okiro.

What hope will there be for any of his victims if the above allegations are true? Will they ever find justice? Will they ever be bold enough to step out with intimidations and accusations of being called paid political prostitute of his so called enemies?

Doesn’t this mean we would be empowering a beast beyond the normal boundaries of humanity?

It is time to throw away political affinities and sentiments and put on a thinking cap as what this issue portends if actually the allegations are true and to be honest with you the thoughts of it are chilling.

Try to imagine the pain of the supposed female victim of Sowore’s rape seeing him on National television being celebrated, try and imagine what effect it might have on her.

Imagine if she has male children and tells them that Sowore once raped her and all the Children see is a man being celebrated everyday instead of prosecuted, how do you think such young men will realize rape is bad?

Think deeply about it and see how letting Omoyele Sowore get out of the rape allegation so easily aids the move by young men attempting to rape their secondary school counterpart.

The issue here is not to nail Mr. Omoyele Sowore but to beam the searchlight of enquiry on a man whose establishment thrives on public trust.

It is saddening that the public can take accusations of rape leveled against such an individual with a pinch of salt. The intent of this write-up is not to declare him guilty but it is only right that the public should be interested in his innocence or lack of it. What if the former inspector general of police is right? What if the allegation against him is true? Does it mean we have a rapist as an investigative power house in Africa’s most populous country?

In Lagos State and Nigeria, a law has been passed to punish crime such as rape by legislators, State and Federal prescribed life imprisonment for any rapist. Since the crime was allegedly committed in Lagos which is also part of Nigeria, Sowore can be tried for the crime in any part of Nigeria.

Public commentators have been calling on government and other anti rape agencies both in Nigeria and abroad to once again look into the allegation of Mike Okiro, Mr Mike is not dead, he is still alive and can retell the story which will aide investigations, the victim is also alive and can tell her own story but should be under a protection.

Like I said earlier, this write-up is not an attempt to crucify Omoyele Sowore but if he has an atom of decency in him, he would come back to Nigeria, sue Mr. Mike Okiro and ask him to mention the name of the lady raped.

He would press charges so as to ensure that his name is cleared from such scandal. He would issue a press conference, denying ever being involved in such a case.

He would demand that his case file be brought out and make it a big issue. That way, young people will realize that rape is not a trifling issue.

Young people will realize that an allegation of rape is one that might come to haunt you in the future.

That way, a clear message will be sent out beyond Nigeria that rape is a big issue and must be treated as such.

So far, so good, there hasn’t been any clear denial of this allegations, there hasn’t been any press conference to address it and most importantly everyone have been acting like they have moved on like it doesn’t matter- which goes a long way to show the message we are sending to younger generations, the Nigerian populace should once again show interest in this case until it gets to a convulsive end.

I read the statement by the former Deputy Director of the Buhari Presidential Campaign Council, Mallam Mohammed Lawal with great amusement.
Mr. Lawal, who is one of President Buhari’s lopsided recent appointees to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (AKA Northern Nigeria Petroleum Corporation) wants Nigerians to believe that former vice President Atiku Abubakar, has been plotting the downfall of President Muhammadu Buhari since 2014.
I find the allegation laughable. Why, you may ask?
Well, because it is silly for any ally of the President to say Atiku Abubakar plotted President Buhari’s failure. Does anybody need to plot the failure of a man who still calls Germany ‘West Germany’? Was it Atiku’s plot that made Buhari wait and waste six months before setting up a cabinet of square pegs in round holes? Atiku did not force Buhari to make promises he could not keep like making $1 equal to ₦1 or creating 3 million jobs per annum.

Even before day one, didn’t Nasir El-Rufai warn Nigerians in 2010 that ‘if you ask Buhari, he will think that Blackberry is a fruit?’
A plagiariser of Barack Obama’s speech, who surrounds himself with the likes of Amaechi, who is still afraid of rats as an ex-general, needs no one to plot his failure!
Just as you have an auto-correct function on your phone, so does President Buhari have an auto-fail function in his government. He does not need an Atiku to plot his failure!
Let me cite an example: Two weeks ago, Benue State experienced a cataclysmic flooding of almost biblical proportions. Many pundits, including yours truly, appealed to the President to at least visit the victims of the flood to give them moral support.
However, the President chose to ignore the 100,000 families that had been rendered homeless and I thank God that this same Atiku Abubakar who they claim is plotting the President’s failure was able to plot his way to donating ₦5 million to the suffering victims.
But that is not where the story ends. President Buhari who refused to visit Benue shocked right-thinking people by visiting Kaduna even while the people of Benue (who coincidentally voted for him) had not had the pleasure of his visit.
President Muhammadu Buhari is strong enough to visit Kaduna State to inaugurate a poultry but not strong enough to visit Benue to commiserate with humans. You visit with poultry but not people. Why does it seem as if this administration values animals over human beings?
Recall that when Nigerians were facing possibly the worst food crisis in our history, Buhari’s minister of agriculture was more focused on importing grass for cows from Brazil. And even after herdsmen killed vast amounts of people in Southern Kaduna, the APC Governor of Kaduna admitted to paying them compensation for their cattle killed. Perhaps the President would have postponed his visit to poultry chickens in favour of visiting paltry citizens in Benue.
Can his handlers continue to blame Atiku Abubakar for these unforced errors?
President Trump who we unfairly like to criticise in this part of the world has visited Texas twice to help out with Hurricane Harvey relief efforts and to project hope to his people. His office has equally announced plans to visit Florida after Hurricane Irma eases. And here our President is visiting poultry!
And look at what is happening in the South-east. Do we blame Atiku for this avoidable crisis too?
Until Nnamdi Kanu was arrested by Muhammadu Buhari, he was unknown to most Nigerians and these include Nigerians of Southeastern origin. The president actually created Nnamdi Kanu, made him a celebrity and gave him the power he has right now.
Right now he has empowered the young man to do a lot more damage to him and his inept administration by making him a cause célèbre that even foreign diplomats go to pay homage to. What was Nnamdi Kanu doing before President Buhari had him arrested? Radio Biafra? How many people were listening to it?
What President Buhari did by arresting Nnamdi Kanu was to turn him from a Bright Chimezie to a Michael Jackson without releasing a Thriller album!
And to make matters worse, he has now initiated this unnecessary, ill-thought-out, ill-advised and ill-fated so-called Operation Python Dance 2 in the South-east.
The US Army is in Texas and Florida helping hurricane victims. That is what I expect the Nigerian Army to do in Benue, where 100,000 families have been rendered homeless by flood, not doing a ‘Show of Force’ in a place that is in need of persuasion, not threats.
Four days ago, suspected herdsmen killed 20 people in Ancha village in Miango district of Jos. If the army wanted to do a ‘show of force’, that would have been a good place to start. It makes no sense to do a show of force in a peaceful community when you have violence-prone communities all over Nigeria.
Since when did the dictionary definition of intimidation change to ‘show of force’? Please let us call a spade a spade and not a big spoon.
The injustices under the Buhari administration are just too glaring, too blatant and too obnoxious.
Arewa youths gave their fellow Nigerians a Quit Notice and they get a song and dance from the Buhari administration. IPOB youths who did not threaten other Nigerians get Python Dance from the same government. How is that fair?
Ignorance is a disease and the Buhari administration appears to be heavily inflicted by this disease. If not, they ought to have known that no nation on earth has permanently put down a separatist movement by force of arms alone.
History does not repeat itself. Men repeat history. The United States has 14 separatist movements. England invited her own separatist movements to form regional govt. in Ireland and Scotland. In the case of Scotland, they even threw in a referendum into the bargain!
President Buhari could have defeated Nnamdi Kanu’s IPOB and its separatist agenda if he had only been equitable and just in his management of Nigeria.
Buhari’s appointments overwhelmingly favour the North. The military and security agencies are almost entirely in the hands of not just Northerners, but core Northern Muslims.
The chief of army staff is a core Northern Muslim from Borno. The National Security Adviser is similarly a core Northern Muslim from Borno. The Chief of staff to the President is likewise a core Northern Muslim from Borno. The acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission is, you guessed it – a core Northern Muslim from Borno.
The chief of air staff is a core Northern Muslim from Bauchi. The Inspector-General of Police is a Northern Muslim from Niger State. The Controller-General of Prisons is a core Northern Muslim from Kebbi. The Comptroller-General of Immigration is a core Northern Muslim from Jigawa. The Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Customs Service is a core Northern Muslim from Bauchi.
The Director-General of the Department of State Security Services is a core Northern Muslim from Katsina. The Chief of Defence Intelligence is a core Northern Muslim.
These are the appointments in the security agencies. Even if you are a core Northern Muslim, as long as you fear God, you can see that this list is obviously lopsided in favour of the core North.
In fact, the President has even stopped pretending. At the last Eid-el-fitri, President Muhammadu Buhari discarded all pretences and addressed the nation in Hausa, the language of the core North.
When you take into consideration his famous comment, to wit “the constituents, for example, gave me 97% cannot in all honesty be treated on some issues with constituencies that gave me 5%”, you can now see how alienated he has made the South feel from Nigeria.
Since his swearing-in as President of Nigeria, President Buhari has not seen it fit to visit the South-east yet this is a man that said, “I belong to everybody, and I belong to nobody” (never mind that he plagiarised Charles De Gaulle.
If President Buhari wants to end the Biafran agitation, he needs to, with urgency, retrace his steps and start acting like he is the President of Nigeria, and not the President of core Northern Muslims only. The day he makes this paradigm shift, will mark the day that separatist agitation will start to fizzle out.
President Buhari does not need guns to quell any separatist movement. All he needs is guts.

This week’s nugget is very special to me. It is directed at one Peter Odumosu, a man who has for weeks been going around social media spreading false and wicked lies about me to the effect that I stole government money. In this regard, he was helped by one Olumide Dada, a certain Dr. Yomi Ogunyemi and one Kola Arubayi who joined him to cast aspersions on my character that have no bearing on reality. To them I prayed to God whom I have served with what I believe is a pure conscience from my childhood, during my recent pilgrimage, that if their allegations against me are true, may God punish me and do so publicly. However, if they have falsely accused me, may God fulfill the word He confirmed in 2 Thessalonians 1:6.

SARS OPERATIVES RESPONSIBLE FOR SERIES OF KIDNAPPING AND ARMED ROBBERY IN RIVERS STATE SAYS GOVERNOR WIKE

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has declared that most of the kidnapping and armed robbery taking place in the state are perpetrated by operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

The governor stated that the
embattled Rivers State Special Anti-robbery Squad (SARS) Commander, Mr Akin Fakorede and his operatives have been indicted by an official Police Signal, which indicated that they are responsible for the series of kidnapping and deadly robbery across the state.

Addressing journalists on Wednesday at the Government House Port Harcourt, Governor Wike stated that the SARS Commander was planted in the state to sabotage the security architecture of the state and create an atmosphere of fear.

The governor said that criminal activities of Mr Fakorede were uncovered by the Inspector General of Police X Squad Abuja deployed to the state after the squad busted the attempted kidnap of one Mr Azumana Ifeanyi on September 11, 2017 at the GRA, Port Harcourt.

The Official Police Signal with the title: "Police Wireless Message " and Reference Number DT0: 121030/09/2017 ---INGENPOL-X-FHQ ABUJA TO-INGENPOL SEC ABUJA, noted that the squad received a distress call on the kidnap of Mr Ifeanyi and immediately swung into action. According to the signal, they met the three SARS operatives robbing and a gun duel ensued. The operatives had taken Mr Ifeanyi to a Fidelity Bank ATM where they compelled him to withdraw N500,000 as ransom.

One of the SARS Operatives was killed, while Inspector Justice Nyeche who led the IGP team was injured.

Governor Wike said: "Most of the kidnapping and armed robbery taking place in this state are done by men of SARS. They use exhibit vehicles to operate. As the Chief Security Officer of the state, you complain, but they choose to play politics with crime.

"They fight crime in some state, but they refuse to fight crime in Rivers State. We are done with the elections, but they are using SARS to create insecurity in the state.

"As I speak with you, they will deny. But the SARS Operative who was killed was amongst those who raided the Rivers East Senatorial District Collation Centre. This man can be identified in the video as one of those who invaded the collation centre with Fakorede."

The governor stated that the deliberate acts of violence being perpetrated by the Police have been planned as part of the rigging process for 2019.

"I have never seen a country where they politicise crime. It is very obvious that they want to give the impression that Rivers State is unsafe. They want to instil fear preparatory to declaring during the elections that they are so much killing", he said.

He added: "Authorities deliberately trying to destroy a whole state and you want the people to be happy. I will no longer write. Now is the time to take my case to the public, for the whole world to know what is happening ".

The governor said that his administration has invested more than any other in security logistics, yet the Police work against the state.

It will be recalled that the embattled Rivers State SARs Commander, Mr Akin Fakorede was caught on video invading the Rivers East Senatorial District Collation Centre on December 12, 2016.

This opinion piece is a response to the above titled article by @ChubaEzeks on Stears Business (@StearsNG). In the article, the writer, an economist, gives a surprisingly data blind answer to the question — “Would Nigeria have fared better under President Jonathan?”
He states that the counterfactual that Nigeria would have fared better economically if President Jonathan was re-elected reveals [a] ruse. According to him, A/B tests don’t help us understand complex scenarios (such as politics) where multiple causal factors play a role in determining an outcome. In applying this to the Nigerian scenario above, however, the writer refers to two assumptions only, that “Nigeria’s economy does not move with global oil prices” and that “CBN Governor, Godwin Emiefele — appointed by President Jonathan would act independently and pragmatically.” (Though he states that “this is barely scratching the surface”).
The argument made in this piece is that the causal factors of the growth of the Nigerian economy were present in both President Jonathan’s administration and President Buhari’s current administration. If each of the casual factors is treated as a stand-alone constant, Mr. Ezekwesili’s belief that A/B tests are of limited use in helping predict the outcomes of complex scenarios becomes moot. As the deconstruction of Mr. Ezekwesili’s article does indeed make the assumption that each causal factor is an independent constant, the A/B test is applicable.
Until Q3 2014 of Jonathan’s tenure as President, oil prices were consistently high and averaged about $100/barrel, the Nigerian economy grew at an average of 6%. Oil prices fell sharply at the end of Q3 2014 and this led to a contraction of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth in Q4 2014. By Q1 2015, the oil sector of the economy which makes up about 10% of Nigeria’s GDP had negative growth whilst the non-oil sector had positive growth. Thus, from Q1 2015, the non-oil sector of the economy which stayed positive, continued to push growth of the economy every quarter, albeit at a lower rate of about 3% until Q1 2016 when both the non-oil sector and the oil sector of the economy recorded negative growth leading to negative growth overall and eventually, a recession by Q2 2016.
What were the factors which led the Nigerian economy into recession in Q2 2016 under Buhari? In order to keep this piece brief, reference will be made to the main factors.
1. Buhari’s delay in forming a cabinet
One of the many promises made by Buhari/APC during campaigns in 2015 was to have a cabinet in place within a month after he was sworn in. It took Buhari six months to have a cabinet in place, the slowest record in Nigerian history. The failure by Buhari to form a cabinet and provide economic direction was one of the reasons given by JP Morgan Chase & Co when it downgraded Nigeria’s credit rating. Standard & Poors also stated before its review of Nigeria’s rating in September 2015 that it was waiting to see who made up Buhari’s cabinet and what economic policies he introduces. The lack of urgency by Buhari to name a cabinet to provide an economic direction at a time of continuous low oil prices did not inspire confidence in the economy. The economy needed decisive action, instead, it was left on autopilot at such a critical juncture, right after a transition of government and in the middle of continuous low oil prices. Had President Jonathan been re-elected, this delay to form a cabinet would have been avoided as he already had one in place and so the work of continuing to steer the economy with purpose would have carried on almost seamlessly.
2. Buhari’s mishandling of the amnesty programme for Niger Delta militants.
Buhari, without having an alternative solution in place, disrupted the amnesty programme for Niger Delta militants. This led to a resurgence of militancy in the Niger Delta region with a new group, Niger Delta Avengers blowing up oil pipelines, leading to a massive drop in Nigeria’s daily production of oil. Buhari’s response was a military solution, sending the army to that region. It was ineffective and the onslaught by the militants continued until the government relented and agreed to negotiate with them. One could predict with certainty that this would not have happened had Jonathan been re-elected. It was Jonathan, who as Vice President to President Musa Yar Adua in 2007/8, negotiated the amnesty programme. Buhari’s actions meant that at a time when oil prices were low, Nigeria’s production was also low resulting in a double whammy which ultimately affected government income and the economy.
3. The rushed full implementation of the Treasury Single Account (TSA).
The TSA to consolidate all inflows from all government agencies into a single account, was implemented in phases by the Jonathan administration starting in 2012 to reduce the effect on cash flows of the commercial banks which relied on such inflows. Upon resumption of office, Buhari ordered that the implementation be concluded in one fell swoop which inevitably led to a cash crunch at a time when there was no cabinet and therefore no fiscal policies to stimulate the economy and oversee the government’s expenditure.
4. An unrealistic expansionary budget
In response to low oil prices, the Jonathan administration proposed a transition budget (termed austerity budget) of N4.45T for 2015 with a revised cost of an assumed price of $65 per barrel of oil (down from $77) and capital expenditure of about 12.5%. The main consideration leading to the conservative budget was how it would be funded at a time when oil prices were low. The government increased taxes on luxury goods and stated that it would take additional measures if oil prices remained low in 2015. In the meantime, it would focus on cutting down recurrent expenditure and drive the continued diversification of the economy away from dependence on oil. In comparison, Buhari’s administration proposed an expansionary budget of N6.06T for 2016 in which it claimed it would spend 30% of the budget on capital expenditure in order to stimulate the economy. There were two main issues with the expansionary budget, the biggest budget in the history of Nigeria. Firstly, there was a question of how it would be funded at a time when oil prices and production were low. Secondly, there was a problem with recurrent expenditure which was still very high, especially from an administration which had promised to run a “lean government.” Personnel cost of N1.83B in the 2015 budget was exceeded by about N400B by Buhari’s administration despite constant claims by the Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun that she was effectively tackling “ghost workers” and reducing the wage bill. The effect of this expansionary budget was that a huge deficit of N2.19T was created adding to Nigeria’s growing debt burden with very little to show for it.
5. The incoherent foreign exchange (FX) regime
Would Emiefele have acted independently and more pragmatically if Jonathan had been re-elected? The answer can be found in his actions whilst Jonathan was still President. Although the oil sector makes up only 10% of Nigeria’s GDP, oil revenue is the main FX earner for the country and the main source of government revenue. Thus, a crash in oil prices would lead to less FX earned and less revenue for government. In response to the crash in oil prices in 2014, Emiefele (who was appointed by Jonathan in June 2014) devalued the Naira twice during Jonathan’s administration as that was the pragmatic thing to do. The first devaluation was in November 2014 and the second devaluation was during campaigns in February 2014 which put the Jonathan administration at a disadvantage. In fact, the APC/Buhari campaigned with the exchange rate stating that the fall in the value of the Naira was unacceptable and they would, if elected, ensure that the Naira became more valuable. Jonathan did not make utterances in public about monetary policy and allowed the Central Bank Nigeria (CBN) to do its job independently.
In comparison, Buhari had made it clear through his utterances that he was not convinced that devaluation of the Naira was necessary. This called into question the independence of the CBN and Emefiele’s decision not to devalue the Naira for over a year, though oil prices remained consistently low. Instead, CBN imposed FX restrictions affecting ease of access to FX at official rates and released a list of imported items which were banned from accessing FX at official rates. CBN also slashed its supply of FX to the parallel market. Consequently, there was scarcity of FX and a huge gap grew between the official rate of the Naira to the Dollar/Pound and the parallel market rate. This created an incentive for FX round tripping for those who could get access to FX at official rates as they could sell it on the parallel market for considerably more than the amount they paid for it (as much as 60% at a point).
The effect of this incoherent FX regime was many fold. It led to the shutting down of several companies, as such companies could not access FX to import parts/raw materials to continue production. This in turn led to job losses, putting more pressure on the already saturated job market. Customs also lost revenue as imports fell during this period. Additionally, the scarcity of FX led to capital flight from foreign investors who quit from Nigeria. Some airlines and other foreign companies stopped operating in Nigeria and Foreign Portfolio Investment dropped noticeably due to unwillingness by foreign investors to invest in the capital market as repatriating funds from Nigeria became increasingly more difficult with the FX regime in place. JP Morgan Chase kicked Nigeria out of its Emerging Market Bond Index in October 2015 (Nigeria had been in the index since 2012) citing restrictions on FX transactions and policies of the CBN as its reasons. Nigeria has moved from being number one destination for foreign investment in Africa under Jonathan to currently being number 19, a huge drop!
In conclusion, both Jonathan (towards the end of his tenure) and Buhari have had to deal with low oil prices and a comparison of the responses of their administrations has been discussed above. It seems therefore, that contrary to the writer’s opinion, Jonathan supporters are right to state that Nigeria would have fared better under Jonathan. Whilst the Nigerian economy does move with global oil prices, the recession was a direct result of Buhari’s uninspired economic management which the writer referred to in his piece and this has been demonstrated above using the A/B test.
Intriguingly, while the data presented makes the assumption that Nigeria would have fared better under Jonathan seem obvious, Mr. Ezekwesili managed to reach a totally different conclusion. How is this possible, you ask? Confirmation bias, which, simply defined, is “a tendency to search for or interpret information in a way that confirms one’s preconceptions”. It’s a quote Mr. Ezekwesili might recognise, as it was pulled from an article he wrote two years ago titled “When Seeing Isn’t Believing”.

Violence has erupted in the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital following a protest by some of the displaced persons who claimed that the quantity of food brought into the camps for distribution was little.

This resulted to the humanitarian workers pulling out of the camps for fear of being attacked.
