Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, Chief Gani Adams, has described June 12, 1993, annulled election as the most defining moment in Nigeria's history. According to him, the struggle to free Nigerians from the shackles of bondage will continue until the country is restructured into federating units. Adams, in a statement on Thursday, June 11, by his special assistant on media, Kehinde Aderemi, expressed joy that part of the dreams of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) under his leadership, has been realized with the celebration of June 12 as the authentic democracy day. The Yoruba leader, however, regretted that despite the sacrifices of the activists and pro-democracy groups, democracy is yet to take its root in Nigeria. He expressed hope that Nigeria can only get it right with true federalism, pointing out that the only way out of the political logjam is to let the federating states develop at their own pace. This has always been our problem. All our leaders have lost touch with the people at the grassroots, that is why we must continue to press for justice until we get the best for Nigeria and Nigerians. Aare Adams also said the lesson of June 12 election is, indeed, for a lifetime for everybody, stressing that no matter how long the long arm of lies persists, the truth will one day prevail. Earlier, Legit.ng reported that the judge who annulled the June 12, 1993, presidential election, presumed to be the freest and fairest in the nation’s history, Dahiru Saleh passed aways. The retired judge died in Bauchi state and was buried in his hometown of Azare, still in Bauchi, on Thursday, May 7. Until his death, he held the title of “Mutawalle” of Katagum Emirate in Bauchi. He was the chief judge of the Federal Capital Territory high court. In a related development, President Muhammadu Buhari has been accused of marginalizing the southwest geopolitical region of Nigeria in terms of appointments into public offices. The allegation was made on Tuesday, January 28, by the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland. Adams alleged while speaking in Ado Ekiti, the capital of Ekiti state during the 6th world congress of the Oodua Progressives Union (OPU), that Buhari’s government is tainted with nepotism. https://www-legit-ng.cdn.ampproject.org/v/s/www.legit.ng/amp/1337973-june-12-well-continue-struggle-nigerias-restructured-federating-units---gani-adams.html?amp_js_v=a2&_gsa=1&usqp=mq331AQFKAGwASA%3D#referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com&aoh=15918939330926&_ct=1591893953304&_tf=From%20%251%24s&share=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.legit.ng%2F1337973-june-12-well-continue-struggle-nigerias-restructured-federating-units---gani-adams.html |

Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, on Wednesday returned to the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Secretariat in Abuja, for screening ahead of the June 22 governorship primaries in the state. The governor was at the party secretariat for the screening on Wednesday afternoon and left after the exercise was shifted till later in the day. He, however, returned to the secretariat at exactly 7:59 p.m. for the exercise. Obaseki, who was accompanied by his associates including Senator Domingo Obende, had earlier raised the alarm about alleged attempts by the committee to scheme him out of the governorship race. A statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Communication Strategy, Mr. Crusoe Osagie, had claimed that the screening committee members refused to pick the governor’s call. He said: “The governor arrived early but the screening committee was not ready. He was given the option to either wait for one hour or, if he had an appointment to keep, he could go and call them to know if they were ready. “The governor, who had a Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) meeting, went for the meeting and called when he was done. “But the members of the screening committee did not pick the governor’s call to their phones.” https://www.ripplesnigeria.com/they-refused-to-pick-my-calls-intrigues-as-obaseki-accuses-apc-screening-committee-of-foul-play/ |

The Yoruba World Congress, led by the tribe leader, Emeritus Professor Banji Akintoye, has described a recent statement credited to the National President of Myetti Allah Kautal Hore, Bello Abdullahi Bodejo, as patently odious and filthy vituperations of a demented megaphone of ignoble masters that should be ignored by any Nigerian with the minimum modicum of intelligence and sense of decency. The Director of Communications, YWC, the umbrella body of Yoruba descents all over the world, Moses Jolayemi, said this in a press release on Monday. Jolayemi said the organisation has waited patiently in the last few days for a retraction of the highly explosive and inflammatory statement, hoping that he was misquoted, as its often the case when people in public positions see the implications of what they said at the heat of the moment. He said: “Unfortunately, none of such has come. Having made a similar pronouncement almost exactly one year ago, it is becoming clearer that the attack dog is indeed working on a carefully crafted script. It goes without saying that his masters are determined and undaunted in their evil plot to plunge the country into a needless war. “Ordinarily, the YWC would not respond to such imbecilities but considering the fact that the fellow in question may not be acting alone, we have decided to send him back to his masters that no part of Yoruba land would be ceded to any Fulani marauders under any guise and for any reason.” The Yoruba nation, according to Jolayemi, will however, resist every attempt by a small, ignoble clique of feudal jingoists to foist themselves on the rest of the country or annex the South West. “If other tribes so desire, they can allow their inheritance and indeed their ancestry to be obliterated by these elements who are clandestinely carrying out a carefully mapped ethnic cleansing agenda. But for the Yoruba, such ambition can only remain a mere phantasmagoria,” he warned. The YWC said it is curious that the Federal Government has not made any categorical statement denouncing such reckless and irresponsible statement, even when sister organisations like the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders’ Association have strongly condemned the recent outburst, same way they reacted to similar ones in the past. The YWC noted that recent statements issued by the MACBAN Secretary, Baba Usman, warning Myetti Allah to desist from statements that are capable of destroying the fibre of the nation’s unity, is a welcome development that all hope may not have been lost. Jolayemi also urged President Muhammadu Buhari to call the rebellious arm of the Miyetti Allah to order to demonstrate that he is genuinely interested in the peace and unity of Nigeria and use his constitutional powers to stop any deviant fanning the embers of disunity in the country. He said: “While such condemnation is what is expected of any sane mind, the YWC advised all Yoruba, wherever they are in the world, to deploy their resources, material and intellectual, to join the call for a free and equitable country where no ethnic or religious group is lord over the others. “The quiet and diplomatic disposition of the Yoruba race should not be taken for granted. As a common adage goes; the furtiveness of a tiger is not indicative of cowardice. We only hope that fact is understood and not otherwise.” https://theeagleonline.com.ng/miyetti-allah-calling-for-war-yoruba-world-congress/ |
