https://www.thecable.ng/rewind-in-2016-new-pope-leo-visited-nigeria/ REWIND: In 2016, new Pope Leo visited Nigeria Long before he was elected pope of the Catholic Church, Robert Prevost touched down on Nigerian soil in 2016. Now known as Pope Leo XIV, the new American pontiff visited Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city, almost a decade ago as part of his duties as an Augustinian leader, engaging with members of the order and the broader Catholic community. A photo posted on his X account showed him posing with Catholic leaders — some believed to have accompanied him from abroad, while others were Nigerian clergy dressed in black and white cassocks. “For the first time, General Chapter of the Order of St. Augustine on the African continent — Abuja, Nigeria,” the post which was translated from Spanish to English, reads. The photo was dated September 29, 2016. At the time, Leo was Bishop of Chiclayo, Peru. |

New Pope Leo XIV visited Nigeria in 2016 Pope Leo succeeds Pope Francis, who visited several African nations but never Nigeria during his papacy. As Catholics worldwide welcome Pope Leo XIV, a lesser-known detail about the new pontiff has emerged: his visit to Nigeria nearly a decade ago. Then known as Bishop Robert Prevost, the American-born clergyman travelled to Abuja in 2016 as part of his work with the Order of St. Augustine. The visit marked a historic milestone for the religious order. “For the first time, General Chapter of the Order of St. Augustine on the African continent — Abuja, Nigeria,” read a translated caption from a 2016 photo posted on Pope Leo’s X (formerly Twitter) account. |

Indecent dressing is the major reason why I have no interest in attending Churches on Sundays. I always try to avoid going to Church every Sunday. It is nothing but a gathering of worldly Fashionistas. I go to Church only from Mondays to Saturdays and it is often a Heavenly experience. If Keep the Sabbath Day Holy is the only Sin I will sin against God, Baba go understand my reasons. As for me, I don dash una Sunday Churches ooo. You will never see me there. But Mondays to Saturdays, I no dey use Church play. |
