Body of Mr. Gbenga Olofingboyegun, a director in the Ondo State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), has been discovered in Akure, the state capital.

Olofingboyegun, who was the Director of the Department of Research and Statistics in TESCOM, was declared missing on Thursday after he left the office for undisclosed reasons. His body was found on Sunday.

Family and friends had suspected that he was a victim of kidnappers and were waiting for the call of his supposed abductors for a ransom payment.

Efforts to trace him were fruitless until his decomposing body was found in Saint Theresa Primary School beside Saint Peter’s Unity School in Akure.

Eyewitnesses said Olofingboyegun’s head and other sensitive parts of the body were cut off and taken away by the suspected assailants.

A close relation said he was still in the suits and tie that he wore to the office when his decomposing body was found.

However, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Funmi Odunlami who confirmed the discovering of the mutilated human body, said she was not sure about the identity of the decomposing body.

Mr Omoyele Sowore, the presidential flag bearer of the African Action Congress (AAC), has said Peter Obi of the Labour Party is not a threat to his 2023 ambition.

He stated this on Friday night during an interview on Channels TV’s show, “Politics Today.”

According to Sowore, the former governor of Anambra is not “new to the rotten system” and is part of the “old system”.

Sowore said; “I don’t see Peter Obi as a threat. He’s not new to the rotten system. Somebody who was Anambra’s governor for eight years. He didn’t build any schools, he didn’t build any industry, he didn’t build a power station. He’s not my kind of progressive. ”

We can be emotional about it, but that’s the truth.

TROOPS NEUTRALIZE IPOB/ESN ELEMENTS IN ORSU ... Recover Rocket Launchers

Troops of Headquarters 82 Division Nigerian Army, made up of troops of 34 Artillery Brigade, in conjunction with troops of Nigerian Navy, Air Force and other security agencies on Tuesday 30 August 2022 neutralized two combatants of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its militant wing Eastern Security Network (ESN) along Eke Ututu - Ihitte Nansa road in Orsu Local Government Area of Imo State.

The troops encountered the dissidents while carrying out a raid operation around the general area of Orsu Ihitte Ukwa and Ihitte Nansa. The neutralized members had taken position to launch one of their primed rocket launchers, when they were engaged and taken out by the vigilant troops.

The fearless troops were unhurt, as Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) deployed by the irredentists exploded at Eke Ututu Market, destroying some of the shops in the market.

Eke Ututu market has recently become a flash point as dissidents often ambush troops using explosives and fire arms from within and around the market, while troops are on routine patrol.

After the incident, the Explosive Ordnance Device (EOD) team recovered several Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) planted along the road, as well as locally fabricated rocket launchers.

Troops will continue to ensure there is no safe haven for all criminal elements operating around Orsu and Orsumoghu general area.

The Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has named Auwal Mohammed Jatau, currently representing Zaki Federal Constituency, as his running mate for the 2023 governorship election in the state.

The governor disclosed this while speaking with PDP stakeholders in the state, implying that Senator Baba Tela who is the current deputy governor has been dropped as running mate.

Speaking with newsmen, Jatau expressed gratitude to the governor for finding him worthy to be his running mate.

Jatau, a former Speaker of the House of Assembly, promised to reciprocate the honour by being a loyal and supportive deputy for the success of the PDP-led administration and the implementation of people-oriented projects.

At least 75 secondary schools in Zamfara are still shut because of security concerns.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Kabiru Attahiru, made this known in Gusau on Saturday.

He was reading a goodwill message to a two-day meeting to domesticate the National Policy on Gender in Education, NPGE, organised by the state’s Universal Basic Education Board in partnership with UNICEF.

Mr Attahiru noted that most of the schools are girls secondary schools closed since September 2021 following attacks on two girls’ schools in the state.

He said the state government was working round-the-clock to reopen the schools closed since September 2021 following threats by bandits.

He explained that government directed the closure of the schools following the abduction of 75 students from Government Day Secondary School, Kaya, in Maradun Local Government Area of the state.

Mr Attahiru emphasised the need to include field officers in national education policy formulation on gender education to attain the desired result.

In his remarks, the state’s UNICEF consultant, Dr Ahmed Hashim, highlighted the objectives of the committee including reviewing of inputs from previous meetings on NPGE.

The inability of British Airways, the United Kingdom carrier to repatriate its trapped funds out of Nigeria has led to the suspension of ticket sales in the country.

This is as the airline threatened that it may be compelled to stop flight services into Nigeria if the ongoing crisis of over $464 million trapped funds from ticket sales of combined foreign airlines operating into Nigeria is not resolved by the Federal Government.

The airline in a business meeting with the leadership of National Association of Nigerian Travel Agencies (NANTA), the umbrella body of travelling agencies in the country on Thursday, said that the closure of inventory was a necessary measure to mitigate increase of its trapped funds in Nigeria.

The airline, however, assured that it would continue to fly into the country.

But, NANTA has advised its members not to sell the airline’s tickets beyond December 2022.

If the airline carries out its threat, Nigerians travelling home in December may face a herculean task of doing so.

Ahead of the forthcoming 2023 presidential election, a 49-year-old farmer, Yusuf Babale, has said that his 34 children and four wives will cast their votes for the Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

A yet-to-be ascertained number of soldiers has been killed following an ambush on a military convoy by gunmen suspected to be terrorists in Kekun Waje district of Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

But despite all these, communities in the state are still being attacked and residents kidnapped and/or killed.

Deep Offshore and Inland Basin Production Sharing Contracts Act, 1993 (Amendment) Act, 2019, for increased revenue; Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) Amendment Acts of 2019 and 2021; Proceeds of Crime (Recovery and Management) Bill, 2022, which approves the seizure, confiscation and forfeiture of properties derived from unlawful activity;

Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) Bill, the first legislation focused on curbing anti-competition practices, establishing the FCCPC; Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) Establishment Act, 2018; The Plant Variety Protection (PVP) Act 2021;

INEC Displays Voters’ Register In Oyo

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi State has expelled Governor David Umahi’s main challenger for the Ebonyi South senatorial ticket of the party, Mrs Ann Agom-Eze.

Umahi and Agom-Eze are currently locked in a legal battle over the authentic owner of the Ebonyi South ticket of the party for the 2023 general elections.

Chairman of the party in the state, Stanley Okoro-emegha, confirmed the expulsion of the woman from APC to journalists in Abakaliki on Sunday.

He said she was expelled from the party by the Ward executives of his party in her Umudomi Ward in Onicha local government area of the state.

He added that her expulsion from the party had already been ratified by the zonal executives of the party in Ebonyi South.

He accused Agom-Eze of gross misconduct including repeatedly violating the constitution of the party.

“Mrs Agom-Eze has recklessly disparaged herself too by eating back her words in an effort to satisfy her paymasters. How can a woman who voluntarily wrote, signed and submitted her letter of withdrawal from the senatorial primary that gave the Federal High Court, Abakakili the impetus to order for a fresh election still denies it in a broad daylight? Do you know that she swore an affidavit to that effect and all these documents are substantially available including at the National Secretariat?

“Out of greed, the same Mrs Agom-Eze approached the state governor, Chief David Umahi, who also doubles as the candidate of APC for Ebonyi South Senatorial District, to give her a whooping sum of 20 million naira and a Prado Jeep. Just because her insatiable appetite for quick riches hit the rock, she decided to embrace the devil by joining the opposition parties to discredit the party.

“If not that APC through its gender inclusive agenda gave women forms to contest the primaries free of charge, would Ann ever dreamt of anything because she knows that she can not even win ordinary ward councillor?

“Since her expulsion from the party started in her Umudomi ward in Onicha Local Government area of the state, even as your state party Chairman, I can not interfere with the decision because politics is a grassroots engagement.

“Since she has been thrown out from the ward, local government area and subsequently the zonal level, what we should be considering now is to look at how to prosecute her in line with our constitution which is supreme,” he said.

Singer, Kizz Daniel, has apologised for failing to perform at a show in Tanzania on Sunday.

The Independent National Electoral Commission has backdated Certified True Copies of reports of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries to accommodate Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, Godswill Akpabio and others as candidates in the 2023 general elections, SaharaReporters has gathered.

Bashir Machina won the party’s ticket for Yobe North Senatorial District, while Udom Ekpoudom won the primary election for Akwa Ibom North-West which was monitored by INEC officials.

In Yobe, a certified true copy of the commission’s report from the election of May 28, 2022, revealed Machina polled 289 votes out of 300 delegates. The document was certified by the electoral office on June 23, 2022.

The National Chairman of the APC, Abdullahi Adamu had warned of severe sanctions if Machina refused to relinquish his ticket to Lawan.

Adamu claimed that the party is supreme and that it reserves the right to decide who gets its ticket in any election.

In Akwa Ibom, Akpabio was declared the winner of another primary, but Mike Igini, INEC resident electoral commissioner (REC) for the state, had said the exercise which produced the former minister as a candidate was not monitored by the commission.

SaharaReporters reports that Section 31 of the Electoral Act only allows for substitution when a candidate dies or when he or she withdraws from the race and informs INEC in writing.

The section reads: “A candidate may withdraw his or her candidature by notice in writing signed by him and delivered personally by the candidate to the political party that nominated him for the election and the political party shall convey such withdrawal to the commission not later than 90 days to the election.”

SaharaReporters had earlier reported moves by the INEC leadership to shred the reports of the Resident Electoral Commissioners in the affected states by backdating them to favour Lawan, Akpabio and others.

“INEC has caved in to political pressures and other forces deployed by the outgoing Senate President, Mr Ahmad Lawan and his backers to shred the report of the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner that supervised the APC primary Elections in Yobe state by doctoring and backdating it to accommodate the Senate president and others in states where they have an interest,” a source had said.

“Shockingly, the Chairman of INEC Prof. Mahmoud Yakubu is fully part of this plot, making direct telephone calls to state offices.

“Despite the glaring fact that Ahmad Lawan was a principal actor in the APC presidential primary, which saw him lose to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, he has since mounted relentless pressures on INEC leadership to obtain a senatorial ticket in Yobe state by all means possible.”

Speaking to SaharaReporters on Tuesday, a source confirmed that the certified true copy of reports had been doctored and backdated to accommodate the Senate President and former Akwa Ibom Governor.

“Nigerians will be shocked that despite serial denials by Professor Yakubu-led commission that Lawan and Akpabio names would not be on the ballot as senatorial candidates respectively, INEC is merely deceiving them, signifying a roll back to Professor Maurice lwu-led commission that gave so much hope for the 2007 election which later became the worst election in Nigeria’s electoral history.

“The EPM (Election Monitoring Department) under a very compromised Director, Musa who is about to retire from service and one Barr. Tanimu of the legal department have back-dated documents to include Lawan and Akpabio on the ballot. INEC is now returning gradually to Prof Maurice lwu’s era.

“Just as it was then that there was a notorious National Commissioner named Chukwuani who was the politicians’ hatchet man of that inglorious period, so is Festus Okoye now who is the hand-gun of politicians being used in the emerging efforts to mess up the outcome of party primaries by accepting from political parties names of individuals who didn't participate in primaries monitored by its states’ offices.

“Nigerians will recall that Festus Okoye had been in virtually all television stations granting interviews on Channels TV to prepare the minds of Nigerians to what they are about to make public on the final list when he said ‘RECs are not recognised members of INEC and the commission is not bound by the reports of party primaries monitored by state offices because they also send monitors from Abuja that write reports to INEC Headquarters'.

“Both the EPM and legal department have advised lawyers of Akpabio to file a writ of summons so that witnesses could be called and Abuja INEC Headquarters will prepare and bring forward a staff member that will testify that he or she monitored the re-run primary in line with what Okoye had told Nigerians. This is how they planned to do away with state offices' reports of the party primaries submitted to the headquarters.

“APC has taken control of INEC headquarters, that is why there’s an outcry over the outcome of the primaries in virtually all the states across the country, from Oyo, Ogun, Abia, Akwa Ibom, Kano, Sokoto, it’s the same story. Festus Okoye’s interview has done so much damage to the confidence Nigerians were beginning to have over the outcome of recent elections.

“Commissioner Okoye is now the spokesperson for both INEC and corrupt politicians, as he has been assuring them of having not committed any offence under section 115 of the 2020 Electoral Act despite a Federal High Court judgment in Ebonyi State. Politicians have infiltrated and are in control of INEC. The chairman of INEC at a recent event deceptively told his listeners that they will implement the provision of the 2022 Act and that politicians should study it yet he accepted from political parties names of persons who didn't go through primaries and refused to apply the provisions of section 84 of the same Act and section 285 of the Constitution to reject those names that his commission published as candidates.

“The discordant tunes from headquarters and states where party primaries were conducted have created serious doubts about the trustworthiness of Prof Mahmood Yakubu’s headship of INEC to conduct a free fair and credible election in 2023. The brazenness of INEC in forging a document showing that the name of Akpabio was submitted to it is a further confirmation of compromise at the highest level.”
