"Honestly son, I don't know."
"Jathniel,your face is red." Liam commented.
"Sorry, I tend to get reddish when I'm angry. My light skin causes that."
"I know. I'm trying to bring out a point. Is there any affection I'm missing out on?"
"Liam!" I tried to make him stop.
Jathniel laughed. "Not at all sir. She's just like my little sister's twin,that's all. Makes me see her as my sister too."
"Hmm ok then." Liam replied.
My mind was at work while they were talking. "I'll be right back." I excused myself to head to my room with my phone.
Once I got in, I closed the door behind me. I placed a call to Brian immediately. He picked on the second ring.
"Hello sis."
"Hello Brian. How are you?"
"I'm good. Get to the point Elizabeth. You never call me this early just to ask how I am."
"If that's what you want,fine. I want to to ask you a question and I need nothing but the truth Brian."
"I never lie."
"Have you sent Mille any text message recently about her mum's death?"
He scoffed. "Why would I do that? I'm still sane you know."
"Are you sure Brian?"
"Well, of course I'm sure. The girl probably told one of her friends something and they're using it to haunt her."
"She has very few friends Brian and she doesn't have a loose mouth."
He laughed. "Don't let Mille deceive you. Hope you're not suffering too much with her."
"Are you mad Brian? How dare you say such things? Listen to me and listen good, if I ever find out that you're behind this, I'll never forgive you for it."
"Alright sis,point taken. Can I go now?"
"One last thing. Mille told me about the nonsense you said when she spent the weekend with you. Stop doing that Brian,you want to break her heart?"
"Bye Liz." He disconnected the call.
"My God! Just help me please." I went back downstairs.
"I'll be leaving ma'am. Thanks for breakfast. If you need my help,please call me." Jathniel said.
"Thank you too dear. Remember,not a word of this to anyone."
"Sure ma."
"Bye uncle."
"Thank you for dropping by son." Liam replied and he left.
"Where did you go my queen?" Liam asked me.
"I needed to call Brian. I'm sure he has a hand in this though he's denying it."
"He's been acting strange. He doesn't pick my calls any longer." He replied.
"I don't know what to do hon. I hate seeing Mille suffer this way."
"Don't worry Liz. I believe she'll be fine. The experience will surely hurt her but she'll come out of it stronger and better."
I sighed.

By the time I got to school,the first lecture was over. The next was by 11:30. I called Gloria and she said she was at the Fine Arts Studio with a friend. I went there to meet her. She was excited to see me. I guess she couldn't concentrate on whatever gist her lady friend was giving her anymore. She told the girl we had to go somewhere immediately,promising her she'd come back.
"Hey baby girl." She beamed.
"Gloria, your lying prowess is outstanding."
"That's me for you bae. So how are you?"
We had found a comfortable spot under a tree to settle down.
"I'm OK today. Thanks."
"So what really happened yesterday?"
Telling her would be too long a story so I opted for a lie instead. I had never lied to her before but like they say,there's always a first time to everything.
"I just missed my mum really bad yesterday and I needed my aunt's shoulder to cry on. I'm sorry I got you worried."
"Oh thank God."
"Yeah, your brother came to the house this morning."
"I know. Why didn't you say Niel instead?" She laughed. I totally ignored the comment.
"How'd you get this bruise on your cheek?"
"Oh that. I got it yesterday. My bro and I had an accident."
"What?! How come he didn't say so?"
"September fool. That was a joke,relax bae."
"You got me scared Gloria."
"Sorry dear. I actually bumped into something last night at home when the generator was turned off."
"Sorry about that."
"Nah, it's OK. Not even painful."
We talked about a few more things just to while away time before the next class. Going to class was a lot worse than I imagined. My mind kept straying throughout the class. I went for all my classes that day but it was all a waste.
A similar text message was sent again before I went back to my apartment.
The text messages kept pouring in for two full weeks. Within those two weeks, I had become a shadow of myself. I didn't say a word of what was happening to Kara,Rachel or Jason.
In Jason's case, I didn't want him to worry about me but as for Kara and Rachel, I was afraid of them. My instincts told me they had a hand in it,if not directly,then indirectly.
Gloria didn't understand why I was getting lean. I attributed it to stress. Niel,mum and daddy Liam were the only ones who knew and understood my predicament. They did everything within their power to help me. I felt a lot of pity for them. They were all having a hard time just because of me. The feeling I had when mum died came crawling in again with greater force. There was only one sentence I could use to describe myself - I was a bundle of trouble.

I woke up the next morning with a banging headache. I expected it because of how much I had cried. I couldn't remember how I managed to sleep last night. I checked the time and it was 8 o'clock already.
I jumped out of bed to take a shower and dress up."I'll never make it to class on time." I grumbled.
I didn't bother checking my reflection in the mirror before I dashed downstairs. Mum and dad were on the dining table eating already.
"Morning mum,morning dad." I greeted.
"Baby,how are you?" They said at the same time.
I laughed. "Are you guys so much in love?"
Dad laughed too but mum didn't.
"I'm better than yesterday,thank you." I opened my plate. Mum prepared rice and fish stew.
"Sit and eat Mille." She said.
"I'd rather stand mum. I need to get to school as soon as possible."
"You want your legs to grow longer?" I heard Niel's unmistakable bass voice behind me.
"Good morning uncle ,aunt and Mille" He took his seat on one of the vacant dining chairs.
"Welcome son." Dad replied.
"Welcome Jathniel. I'll go bring something for you to eat. I won't take no for an answer." Mum went into the kitchen.
"Good morning Niel"
"Mille, I'm surprised to see you this strong." "Seriously?" I laughed. "I'm ok Niel"
"You sure?" He raised one of his eyebrows.
"I am. How's Gloria? I couldn't go back last night."
"She left home this morning for class." He replied.
"Ah in that case, I have to get going."
Mum emerged from the kitchen with a plate of food which she placed before Niel "Going where miss?"
"School mum. I can't sit at home when I have a future to pursue."
"Jamille." Dad called me.
"Dad please. I promise I'll be fine."
"Alright alright."
"Mille,your food. You haven't finished half of it." Mum said.
"I'm full mum."
"You sure?" She asked.
"Yeah mum."
"Okay, I'll eat it then." She replied.
"I love you mum and dad." I picked my bag which I had earlier dropped on the chair.
"Bye Niel,thanks for coming to check on me."
"My pleasure. Why don't you let me drop you?" He asked.
"I'm perfectly fine on my own. See y'all later."
I half ran out of the house.

Aunt Liz

I shook my head as she left the house.
Liam held my hand." I'm glad she's better this morning."
"That's the problem Liam. She's not"
"What do you mean dear?"
"She has done that before. When she pretends to be okay, that's when she's grieving the most."
Niel sighed. "Aunt,what's going on?"
"Jathniel, I trust you a lot. I know you're a good man. I've taught you both in school and as your sunday school teacher. So ,I'll tell you what's wrong with Mille. You must never breathe a word of it to anyone."
"I promise aunt."
I told him everything about the death of Mille's mum and the text message Mille received. By the time I was done,he was boiling with rage.
"Do you have any idea who this fool may be?" He asked
