"Mille,I don't want us to keep this malice anymore please." She sat on my bed.
It was a Thursday. I was supposed to be in school but I came back because Kara would be leaving in the evening. Even though we hadn't been on speaking terms ever since the night she lied,I still had to accompany her to the airport.
"You're the one who has refused to talk to me all this while Kara." I dropped my phone. "Alright,I'm sorry Kara."
"I'm sorry too Mille. You know I love you right?"
"Yeah I do." We hugged. "Gosh! I've missed your hugs Kara."
She laughed.
"How's the baby?"
"Baby's fine. Baby will miss you."
"Kara,don't you think..."
"Mille,I'll send them a mail when I get to Abuja. I just don't want to face their full anger ."
"Alright."
"Kara,aren't you travelling again today?" Mum barged into the room.
"I am mum."
"Then let's go to the airport already. We have to be somewhere else after dropping you."
Kara left for her room to bring her luggage and soon we were on our way to the airport.
Mum who had earlier said she and dad would go somewhere else immediately we dropped Kara,ended up staying till Kara's plane took off.
"Mum,I want to go back to school tonight." I said as we were driving home.
"Why don't you got tomorrow morning?" Dad asked.
"I just feel like going back today."
"Na wa o. All my children are feeling like doing this or that. Kara felt like relocating to Abuja. Rachel felt like not coming to escort Kara to the airport and now you feel like going back to school. It is well with me and my husband o." Mum said.
"Mummy! I have night class to attend mbok."
"It's okay o. So you'll come back again tomorrow?"
"I'm not sure. Gloria asked me to come over to her place."
"Let's drop you then." Dad put in.
The real reason I wanted to go back was because I didn't want to see what would happen when Kara sent the mail to mum and dad.
"Mille,you didn't say you'll be back tonight." Gloria said as I entered the apartment.
"I didn't think I would but I just had to get back tonight."
"Oh ok. So I have a question for you Mille."
"Spill." I fetched myself a glass of water.
"Are you and my bro quarreling?"
"He's alive and well dear. Do me a favour and ask him." I blew her a kiss.
"You guys are really best friends. He told me the same thing. Your 'Niel'." She giggled.
"He's in China anyway and I'm missing him." She said softly.
"Thank God." I muttered.
"What was that?" She asked.
"Oh nothing. I was just muttering about your tiny voice."
"You're sick." She threw a pillow at me.
"Gist me jare." I said.
My phone rang that instant. Kara was calling.
"Hello"
"Hey girl,I've arrived Abuja. Pete just came to pick me up."
"Oh thank God. Remind me who's Uncle Pete again."
"Mille,I told you Pete is my cousin. The son of dad's sister. He should be about the same age as Jathniel."
"Oh I see. Does he know?"
"Yeah. I told him."
"Alright then. Have a swell time OK?"
"Sure baby. Love you."
"Love you too Kara." I hung up.
"Kara has arrived. Gloria?" I tapped her but she was fast asleep. I was still yet to understand how Gloria could sleep under ten seconds and so deeply.
I lay down to sleep. I heard my phone ring but I was already on a blissful journey.
The next morning,I woke up early to clean the house a bit before my little weekend getaway. Thereafter,I left for school with Gloria. Lectures always ended early on Fridays so we set out to Gloria's house.
When we got there,I almost gave Gloria the slap of the century when I heard Niel's deep laughter from inside the house.
"Gloria!"
"I'm not hearing you Mille." She opened the door. "Hey Niel." She jumped on him.
"Hello mum."
"Calling me Niel doesn't fit you. It's only for Mille."
"Well,good. Tell her that. She's right outside." I heard her say.
"Damn it." I cursed and opened the door
"Hello everyone."
"Mille,come here. You haven't been looking for me baby." Niel's mum said.
I hugged her.
"How are you baby?" She asked.
"I'm OK ma."
"Aww baby,I've missed you."
"I've missed you more." I gave her a peck.
"Niel has something to tell you baby."
"Mother!" Niel exclaimed.

"Your future?" I asked.
"Yes dear mother."
"Do you mind making things clear to us?" Liam said.
"Well dad, I don't want to continue with medicine and surgery anymore."
"Kara, are you sure you're ok?" I asked.
"Of course mum. I want to go to fashion school in Abuja instead."
"Kara,what's all this? You've never let us have peace with your medical dream and now you've suddenly decided to go into fashion." Rachel yelled.
"Keep it down Rachel." I cautioned.
"Rachel,you know I've also had a thing for fashion." Kara replied.
"Yeah right but it wasn't as strong as your desire to be a doctor." Rachel retorted and she turned to me "Mum,there's something fishy in this silly decision of hers."
"Shut up Rachel. Is it a crime to pursue my dream?"
Rachel scoffed and sat still.
"Kara,you know me well. I believe in solid reasons so tell me why you've decided to take this kind of leap." Liam said coolly.
"Dad, I'm doing well with my course right now but my mind has long left medicine and surgery. I want to explore my own world of creativity."
"I see." He replied.
Liam began a long sermon. My mind was racing fast. The Kara I know would never make such a spontaneous decision. I resolved within me not to react harshly. I would just sit back and watch. That way,her secret would be out for all of us to see.
"What do you think darling?" Liam broke into my thoughts.
"Oh! I think we should let her be. I love people who hold on to their dreams."
"What was that mum?" Rachel asked.
"You heard me well Rachel. Let her pursue her dream. Kara,I'll always support you no matter what."
Kara was grinning from ear to ear. "Thanks mum. Dad?"
"I'm with your mum. We'll make necessary arrangements."
Kara squealed in delight. "My parents rock."
Rachel hissed and left the table.
"Mum give dad a hug for me na." Kara requested.
I hugged Liam and whispered in his ears. "Trust me,I've got a fine plan for your daughter."
I turned to Jamille whose mouth lay open all the while." Mille,won't you say something?"
She shook her head. "Excuse me." She said.
"Kara,let's pack up since your sisters have decided to disappear."
She smiled almost happily.
"Something's up with you Kara and I'll find out." I thought as Liam and I watched her.

I went to my room. I wished I had someone to talk to. If only Niel would stop his silly behaviour. Kara had really gone against the plan. I sat by my window wondering what had gotten into her.
She came to my room later as I expected. What surprised me was the first thing that came out from her mouth.
"Hey sis. Won't you come sleep in my room tonight?" She asked as she stepped in and closed the door behind her.
"Bravo Kara." I clapped my hands.
"Meaning?"
"I never knew you were an actress Kara. How could you do that without batting an eyelid?"
"What the hell did you expect me to do Mille? You wanted me to tell them?"
"Well, yes Kara.You've only complicated things here. If you couldn't do it by yourself,you could have told me. We would have given it more time or I would have helped you tell them what was going on."
"It's easy for you to say Mille because you're not the one in this damn dilemma."
"What dilemma Kara?" Rachel said. We were too busy yelling to notice her entrance.
"And why are you both yelling?" She probed further.
"It's none of your business Rachel." Kara said. She was glaring at me.
"Oh yeah it is. My quiet sister is yelling. Something's wrong." Rachel smiled.
"For the last time,I'm warning you to shut your damn mouth."
"Damn mouth. Hmm,new word in your vocabulary. I know you're hiding something. I only pretended not to notice for the past few weeks because I wasn't ready for you." She moved from behind Rachel to stand before her. "Trust me Miss Kay,I always get what I want. You're not an exception. If I don't find out what demon has possessed you,change my name."
She walked out as quietly as she came in. When Kara was about to breathe a sigh of relief,she came back.
"By the way,I called Eric today. He wishes you a happy life."

I left for Calabar that same day I talked with Mille. I waited patiently for weekend to arrive. It was the most torturing moment of my life. Rachel eventually noticed that something was off with me. I refused to say a word of my predicament to her. She was surely gonna say she told me so. On Thursday,Mille called while I was crying myself to sleep.."Hello Mille "
"Hello pretty. How're you?"
"I guess I'm fine." I sniffed unconsciously. "Poo" I cursed under my breath.
"Kara are you crying?"
"Well of course not. I was just about sleeping when you..."
"Don't give me that Kara. You were crying. I thought we went through this already."
"Mille,it's really not easy. I can't help crying."
"I know Kara. I'll be there with you tomorrow. Everything's gonna go just fine,OK?"
"Alright Mille,you're the best."
She chuckled "No,you're the best."
"How's Niel?"
"Kara,I'm not his mother or his wife. You can't keep asking me about him as if we live under the same roof."
"Sorry ma but how is he?"
"I don't know."
"What's that supposed to mean Mille?"
"I'm serious Kara,I don't know. I don't know what I've done to him. He said he was sorry on Monday but he went back to doing the same thing. He's not my fiance or anything,just my best friend. Let him have his fun,I'm sick of him."
"Take it easy Mille. Maybe he's going through something."
"Then why won't he tell me? He knows all about me. When I'm sad,he knows. He knows when I'm happy,sick,anxious,just everything. I'm gonna let him be. It isn't by force anyway."
"Just take a chill pill sis. Okay?"
"Yeah,thanks Kara." She hung up.
"I'm such an interesting big sister. Instead of being there fully for Mille,she's the one taking care of me." I said to myself.
I gazed at the ceiling till day break. I began feeling sleepy by 7 a.m.
"Kara,we got to get to school. Don't you have lectures this morning?"
"You can go Rachel. I'll meet you later." I told her sleepily.
"Suit yourself then. Don't say I didn't wake you."
"Just go." I covered my head with my pillow.
I slept till it was few minutes to 12 pm. I dragged my tired bones to the kitchen. Rachel left toast bread for me. I tried eating it but I couldn't. I wasn't even hungry. I showered and lay down to sleep again. Rachel woke me up when she got back in the evening.
"Kara,what's wrong with you?"
"I'm fine Rachel,why're you asking?"
"You've been sleeping since I left?"
"No,I woke up to shower and I laid down again."
"You didn't touch the food I left for you."
"Yeah, I didn't and I'm sorry. I just don't have the appetite."
She felt my forehead with the back of her hand.
"I'm not sick Rachel. I just couldn't be at school today. Pack up so we can leave for Uyo while it's still daytime."
"Alright."
We left for the park and boarded an Uyo bound bus. I was quiet all through. I didn't even fiddle with my phone as usual. When we got to Uyo,I called Mille and she told me she was home already.
I was vibrating all over the closer we got home.
Mum must have decided to surprise us with dinner outside in the sit out because we met her,dad and Mille all seated and waiting for us to arrive.
Mille got up to hug me and Rachel while we greeted our parents.
"Be strong Kara." She whispered in my ears.
We sat down to dinner.
"Kara,would you bless this food for us?" Mum said.
"Mum,it's not fair. I haven't said a prayer for our food in decades." Jamille came to my rescue.
"Alright Mille,go ahead." Dad said.
Jamille said a prayer but I didn't hear a single word. My heart was beating really loud till I was afraid the whole famiky would hear it.
The table was as lively as any of our dinners together. The only factor that caused disequilibrium was me. I was silent all through the meal.
"Kara,are you okay?" Dad asked with concern written all over his face.
"I'm fine daddy."
"You sure?" He asked.
I turned to Jamille and she gave me the go-ahead sign.
"Actually,there's something I'd like to tell you and mum."
"Okay baby,go ahead."
"In private." I added.
"Kara,it's just your sisters and us. This is private." Dad answered.
"Okay dad. Truth is I don't know how to tell you this."
"Are you pregnant Kara?" Mum asked and a huge silence fell.
"Kara answer me." Mum said when the silence became excessively prolonged.
"Gosh! Mum, how can you think of such?"
Jamille opened her eyes wide in shock.
"Uh I'm sorry. I don't know what I was thinking Kara." Mum said.
"Liz, I thought we talked about this." Dad said.
Mum nodded.
"Talked about what mum?" Rachel spoke for the first time.
"Never mind. It's between your mother and I." He gave mum a knowing look.
"I actually wanted to tell you something about my future." I said.

Low battery o. I'll just tap someone's charger and work some miracles

I came back home immediately I left Brian's place. I wondered whether Brian's brain cells were intact.
I was so angry and I felt like breaking something but I held my peace. I would be the one to clean up since the girls weren't home. It was early evening already. I decided to take a nap before Liam arrived.

Liam

I came back from work early as I promised my lady. I used my key to open the door and I tiptoed upstairs. I wanted to surprise her but when I got to the room,she was sound asleep.
"This woman has ruined my perfectly planned surprise." I thought.
I threw off my clothes and headed to the bathroom. I knew she wouldn't wake up,my wife was really bad with sleep.
I finished bathing and came out. As I was dressing up,she screamed "No,she's not" and she lay back down. I shook my head and continued dressing up. I thought she was asleep again till I heard light sobs.
"Darling?"
She looked up, startled. "Liam,you're back."
"Yes I am. What's wrong?" I moved to the bed and she hugged me. We stayed that way for some minutes before she spoke up.
"I had a dream. I'm afraid it will or it has come to pass."
"Baby,since when did you start believing in dreams? Are you now a prophetess? I can actually build your miracle centre for you." I said with a serious face just to make her smile.
"Stop that na and listen to me." She smiled.
"Ok,Liam stop it na." I used her palm to slap my face lightly.
She smiled for a brief moment. "Honey,in that dream,Kara was pregnant."
"What?! Don't be ridiculous Liz. That's what you get for sleeping in the afternoon when you rarely do such."
"It could be true Liam."
"Yeah right. I thought you trust your daughters?"
"I do. But..."
"There shouldn't be a but dear." I drew her closer.
"Did you have any unpleasant experience during the day?" I asked her.
"I guess so. I saw Brian today and believe me,he almost made me go crazy." She told me everything that happened. I was at a loss of what to say when she finished.
"He'll come around dear. I know he will."
"You're so coolheaded Liam and that's why I love you." She gave me a peck.
"I'll call Kara later." She said.
"Love,don't disturb our daughter because of an afternoon dream."
She wanted to protest but I was fast enough to dodge "I'm hungry Liz,let's go make something super!"

"Kara,you know I hate expensive jokes." i said.
"Mille,I'm not joking. I'm really pregnant with Eric's child." She brought out the pregnancy test result from her purse.
"And Eric is your boyfriend right?"
"Ex-boyfriend. He made a bet with his friends to get me and I fell woefully for it."
"Shoot! That's bad. Come on,don't cry baby."
She sobbed even louder. "I've shattered my dream with my own hands Mille."
"No,don't say that Kara. You're not the first one to experience this. You'll come out of it."
"I've always been against abortion but I'm having second thoughts now."
"Don't you dare it Kara. I'll never forgive you."
"What do I do Mille?" She asked.
"First,we'll tell mum and dad about this."
"What?! Do you know what that means? Mum will probably disown me. She has always believed in abstinence."
"She won't disown you Kara. Mum is too angelic to do that."
"Gosh! Life is unfair Mille. I never let him touch me even once Mille before. That day, he made me taste alcoholic wine for the first time. Well,we drank together actually. He has taken it a thousand times,but mine was the first. It tasted really good. Before I knew it,my head was spinning really fast. I didn't even know what was happening around me anymore. All I remember was that he took me to his room. He took advantage of me Mille."
"Why did you keep quiet Kara?"
"Because I know I brought it upon myself. If I hadn't gone to his house,it wouldn't have happened. If I hadn't agreed to taste the wine,all this wouldn't have happened. I decided to keep my mouth shut. Before I came home last weekend,I decided to go for a pregnancy test and that's the result you have in your hands Mille."
"It's alright Kara. I really don't know what to say to you. Why'd you choose to tell me first even when I'm younger than you."
She smiled weakly. "Because I trust you Mille. You're kind and sweet. I wish I could be like you."
I hugged her. "It's okay Kara. We should tell mum and dad about this during the weekend. I'm saying weekend because I want you to prepare yourself to meet them. Have you told Eric about it?"
She scoffed. "I'm never talking to that randy goat again. He doesn't deserve to know."
"But.."
"No Mille,you won't convince me. He must never know he has a child with me."
I nodded.
