Policemen in Aba on Wednesday morning delayed Enyimba’s trip to Warri for the Super Cup against Kano Pillars on Thursday. Players and officials of the Aba side had prepared to leave the City at 9am from the Aba Stadium, but the trip was delayed for over four hours after an altercation between some Policemen and some of the players in front of the Stadium. learnt that as the players were preparing to make the journey to Warri, the boys felt the need to eat. Some of the players then decided to go and eat outside the Stadium. At the entrance of the Stadium, the players noticed that there was a problem between a tricycle owner and some people and they tried to intervene in order the save the tricycle owner. It was at that point that the Police arrived and tried to arrest everybody at the scene of the incident. “One of the Enyimba players, Nzube Anazemba was stripped naked by the Policemen and Mike Okoyoh was beaten with a baton when they demanded to know why the Police wanted to arrest them,” an unnamed source said. Anazemba was eventually taken to the Divisional Headquarters at Cameron Road, Ndiegoro, Aba. “He stayed there for more than two hours. Other players stormed the Police Station, but the could not gain entrance because the gates were firmly locked,” the source added. Anazemba was evetually freed and everything was settled as Chairman of the club, Felix Anyasi could not reached on phone. The team is right now on their way to Warri for the Super Cup game against Kano Pillars on Thursday. |
kenonze: On Thursday at Warri Township Stadium Glo Premier League champions Kano Pilars and Federation Cup winners Enyimba will fight for the Super Cup, often called as Charity Cup.Both teams haven't played against each other since the end of last season in Glo Premier League. Also for both of them it will be firstofficial game ahead of the new campaign. Kano Pillars after departure of coach Mohammed Baba Ganaru will be led by temporary coach Kabiru Baleria. They also won't be able to use their top striker Mohammed Gambo. In this case probably the scorer of the 14 goals last season Rabiu Ali will feature as the main striker. „We lost to Heartland last year and want to win the Super Cup this time. The team is good enough for the Cup.” - said Pillars captain Theophilus Afelokhai quoted bysupersport.com. „Our target is to beat Enyimba again andmaintain our supremacy.” - added coach Baleria. It seems that despite problemsMasu Gidaare determined to win the trophy. Especially that on Thursday they will receive... another trophy. Pillars still didn't get the trophy for winning Glo Premier League. It will be handed before the kick-off of Super Cup game.but the game was suppose to be on the 27th of November nt 28 |

Nigerian football chiefs are to meet this week to thrash out a new date for the delayed start of the new domestic league, after a previous proposal was scrapped. The 2013-14 campaign had been due to kick off this month but was postponed due to a row between club managers and the League Management Company (LMC) over the running of the competition. The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) hosts its annual general meeting in the southeastern city of Warri on Thursday, with approval of a new start date top of the agenda. The NFF is also expected to extend the contract of the LMC for another season. Officials suggested that the new season will most likely begin in February after the Championship of African Nations in South Africa, where Nigeria will make their debut. The 2012-13 Nigerian domestic season ended in October with Kano Pillars retaining their league crown. They will represent the country in next year's CAF Champions League along with runners-up Enyimba.

Felix Tangawarima, a FIFA Referees’ Instructor, on Thursday said the world football governing body wanted to have Nigerian referees officiating in all its competitions. Tangawarima said this in Abuja at the formal opening ceremony of the 2013 FIFA Member Association Course for Elite Referees, Technical Instructors, Referee Assessors and Physical Fitness Instructors. The referees’ instructor, who spoke on behalf of the course’s three instructors, said FIFA’s desire was because Nigeria is a force to be reckoned with in African football. "As far as Africa is concerned, there is no way football will be mentioned and reference will not be made to Nigeria. "In addition to this, most of the FIFA-organised competitions have Nigerian national teams participating. "But we (FIFA) think participating alone is not enough. With this kind of course and some other ones held in the past, we hope to see Nigerian referees in every FIFA- organised tournament," Tangawarima said. He however commended the Nigeria Football Association (NFA) for requesting for the course to be held, saying it was a step in the right direction. "As much as the NFA is striving to develop Nigerian football, we are happy that our department is not left behind in the development process. "We commend the football house because its dedication is now yielding result, with Peter Edibe to represent Nigeria at the FIFA Club World Cup in Morocco next month. "This means that we are moving in the right direction in the development of football in Nigeria and Africa at large," Tangawarima said. He said the course participants had improved in comparison to when the course was held in October 2012. "I am very pleased to discover that the participants have improved on what they were taught last year, and this is to tell us that we are progressing. "And due to the fact that development is a process, we hope this will continue because we want to record more success," the retired Zimbabwean referee said. In his remarks, the NFA Chairman, Aminu Maigari, who was represented by the association’s General Secretary, Musa Amadu, commended FIFA for intensifying efforts in terms of referees’ development in Nigeria. "We want to commend FIFA for its intensified efforts in terms of improving Nigerian referees in the last five years and also accepting our request to train assessors, a move which provides professional support. "This is because it is only Nigeria that was approved to hold the course for six days as against the normal five or four days given to other countries and we are grateful for the gesture,’’ Maigari said. He however promised that the NFA would ensure that Nigeria have a pool of referees FIFA would be well proud of before the 2018 World Cup in Russia. "I believe with this kind of course and some other ones that we have held, by 2018, we will have a pool of referees. "So that FIFA can select a trio of referees from them for the 2018 World Cup in Russia,’’ Maigari said. Linus Mba, the course co- ordinator, expressed his satisfaction with the fact that the Nigerian refereeing family had never had it as good as it is now. "We have never had it as good as it is for us now, and it is as a result of the support we get from FIFA through the NFA and we wish to continue in this vein. "Also, we have been able to record this success because of our referees’ determination to be improved and we are glad that NFA’s investment in refereeing has not been in vain,’’ Mba said. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the six-day programme started on Monday, November 18 and will end on Saturday, November 23. The course had 43 assessors, 19 physical fitness instructors, 32 elite referees and eight technical instructors as participants. |
Former coach of Enugu Rangers Okey Emordi has revealed the true reason why he left the Flying Antelopes. Emordi resigned his position as coach of the Enugu side moment after helping the club to a fifth place finish with a 1-0 victory over El Kanemi in their last game of the Glo Nigerian Premier League 2012/13 season played on October 20. Emordi accused top officials running the affairs of the club of poor and unprofessional handling of activities of the side. “The top management don’t care about a professional way of doing things. So much bad image have been created and the name of the club was heading to disrepute, so I had to leave, he told News24 Nigeria. Rangers were at loggerheads with Warri Wolves over the real ownership of Super Eagles pair of Sunday Mba and Chigozie Agbim. Rangers also claimed the ownership of Shooting Stars goalkeeper Emmanuel Daniel, which led to their disqualification from the CAF Confederation Cup. In July, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced the disqualification of Rangers from the Confederation Cup, for featuring junior international Daniel in the competition. In a letter addressed to the NFF General Secretary, Barrister Musa Amadu, and dated 2nd July, CAF said it was basing its decision on documents and letters sent by the club Shooting Stars and its Chairman, which confirmed that -by the time the player was registered on December 24th, 2012, no agreement was found between Shooting Stars and Enugu Rangers for the player Daniel Emmanuel. However, Rangers said they filed an appeal following their disqualification for fielding an in-eligible player, but later reports proved otherwise. All these forced Emordi, who has won the CAF Champions League trophy as coach of Enyimba, to tender his resignation. “I tried all I could to make sure the club did not go to relegation in the NPL so as not to tannish my image, because what happened to us on the continent is very shameful, the club management just do things the wrong way and would not listen to professional advice”. “So after the blast of the whistle in our last game of last season I tendered my letter of resignation. I’ve had enough insult”, he concluded. Rangers have since replaced Emordi with former U20 national team coach John Obuh. Emordi, a former U23 national team handler said he looks forward to another coaching job elsewhere.

The League Management Company (LMC) has said in clear terms that clubs who want to take part in the Glo Nigerian Premier League will no more be allowed to owe players. It is a sorry situation in the Nigerian professional league as over 70 percent of the clubs owe their players. But the LMC, who is the body in charge of running the league, is now set to enforce a rule that will ensure the club chiefs does not owe players, as license will be issued to only clubs that meet certain requirement to participate in the league. “Privy to the (FIFA) license regulation, a club cannot owe a player, in fact you cannot take part in the league if you can’t guarantee to pay your players their salaries”, chairman of LMC Nduka Irabor said in Lagos. “It is now we want to play professional football. We’ve been joking about it”. “The league will start when we have professional football league, right now, until the clubs are licensed they are not professional football clubs”. “We are giving them so much time. We’ll wait for NFF to formally make the license available, and then we’ll see if we can beat the deadline of December 31 given by CAF, if we do, we’ll start the league immediately after CHAN (Championship for African Nations) 2014, and if we don’t, we’ll push to get enough clubs registered. We desire to play 20 clubs if 20 clubs register. All clubs must meet those conditions required to register”. This may not be a good news to club chairmen as they have raised eyebrows over the tenure of the Nduka Irabor led LMC. The LMC is also planning a scheme to insure the lives of players. |
