You say you do not beat her but do you realize that words can be more hurtful than physical abuse? You've messed with her mental health and she's probably fed up with you. Wetin dey off me for where you dey na your entitlement mentality. You sound like a man that doesn't know what he wants for himself. I gained admission into one of the prestigious universities in the South Western part of Nigeria. I was a very happy guy when I got that admission. But I never knew that the worst was waiting for me in my gambling life. When I gained the admission, I was trying to stop my gambling habit but along the line, I met a 'friend'. I will call him Segun. Segun was not my friend per se but circumstances brought us together. He was about 10 years older than me and a married man as well with a child. Segun had a bet shop and I used to play games there. What even made us closer was the Covid-19 period during the lock down. I refused to travel home during that early Covid lock down in 2020 and stayed back at school. As I'm writing this story, I'm filled with regrets because I should have traveled home that period had I known. Segun had accommodation issues during that time and asked to stay with me for a while which I accepted. Overtime, we became very close friends and he told me a lot about betting and how it works. He even taught me how to stake higher. For example, if I play all board over 4.5 goals and play it "3 to come", I will stake 2,400 and have the possibility of winning higher. This is in contrast with the normal "2 to come" that I will stake with 900 naira. Gamblers will understand what I'm saying 100% I never knew that all what he was doing was to work on my mind so that I will patronise him that period as there was a total lock down and shops were not allowed to open. I was the only customer he had then as we used to play it right there in my room. In my first two days, I played games worth 80,000 naira and lost. I can't forget. It was like a film trick to me. Segun didn't complain and I foolishly went ahead and continued to play on while damning the consequences. My mind was just focused on winning and I never won any substantial money. This was how I played until I ran into debts of over 400,000 naira in the hands of Segun. Then my sleepless nights and worries began. 1 Like |

This was how betting became a cancer in my life. I began to stake with the hope of getting big returns in seconds. In my church, I was the treasurer of the youth department which gave me access to the departmental funds. I used the funds from the youth department to play virtual games with the hope of winning and replacing them back. I was just digging a big hole for myself and incurring debts upon debts. I remember a particular youth week where we were to contribute money for a particular project for the church. As the treasurer, I was the one in charge of the funds which ran into over one hundred and fifty thousand naira. I spent the whole money at a sitting, playing virtual betting. The issue got out of hand and that was how my parents discovered that I was a serial gambler. I lost the trust my parents had for me though they ended up paying up that money with me promising that I'd never gamble again. I made that promise but went back after a week. There was a certain time I won 963,000 naira correct score. I will never forget. I was literally a mad person that day. There was nobody that I did not give money on that day. As at the very next day after winning, I had just a little over 100,000 naira in my account. If you ask me what I used the money for, I cannot explain till date. The 100k plus was spent in bet9ja shop the next day with the hope of winning more. I lost it all and even ran into debt again which I couldn't pay. This time around, I had to forfeit my laptop. Fast forward to my university days. This was when I had the worst experiences in my life which almost killed me. 1 Like |

Little by little, I began to play constantly. Before I knew it, I was playing almost everyday. I played virtual till I left secondary school. I was able to fund my games then through the little money I stole from my parents and most times if they sent me on errands, I did not remit the change. I won't forget to mention that I starved myself several times in secondary school all because I wanted to use my lunch money to play virtual. It was becoming a cancer in my life but I failed to realise it. The first day I won 10,000 naira, it was as if heaven came down that day. I had just finished from secondary school then in 2012 and was seeking for admission into the University. To say that I was happy is an understatement. I bought "heaven and earth" on that day. The total sum I spent was about 4,000 naira and I saved the rest for betting the following day. As expected, on the following day, after I woke up in the morning, I didn't even brush or take my bath; I ran to the bet shop to play virtual games. In a matter of minutes, I lost the remaining 6,000 naira and even incurred debts of about 3,000 naira. I failed to mention that when I won the 10,000 naira, people were all over me and called me their friend and brother but on the following day when I lost, all those people deserted me. I begged for money from those same people to pay my 'gbese' of 3k but everyone of them 'shenked' me. In the end, I had to forfeit my phone as there was no way for me to get such amount of money at that moment. I went home feeling so down and dejected and swore to myself that I won't play virtual betting again. I didn't know that I was just deceiving myself. As a matter of fact, I can say that was the beginning of me going a level higher in playing virtual betting. 1 Like 2 Shares |

My addiction to playing virtual sports betting started off as a joke. I remember I used to go to different video game centers while I was in secondary school. I started going to game centers sometime in 2007. My father (of blessed memory) was against it then citing several reasons but I remained adamant. I remember how he used to punish/flog me then but I secretly went behind him and continued to play video games. This continued for several months until a particular day I entered a video game center /bet shop. I remember seeing some numbers with decimals on the TV screen. My curiosity made me ask the owner of the shop what it meant. He explained everything to me. I then decided to try what he explained even though I did not understand anything which he said. I remember staking 100 naira and I won 350 naira in seconds. I couldn't believe it! To say that I was happy was an understatement. I ran off after collecting the money and spent it on unnecessary things. I was just too happy that I had finally seen where I could make free and fast money anytime I wished. Oh! How wrong I was! The following day, I went back there with more money. This time around, I didn't go there to play video games but I went with the sole intention of playing that thing I saw on the screen the previous day. I later found out that it is called virtual sports betting. I went with 500 naira with the hope of winning just like the previous day but surprisingly, I lost it in a flash. I couldn't believe my eyes! This became the beginning of my woes 38 Likes 2 Shares |

Hello everyone. I remember opening a thread sometime in August 2020 about my addiction to sports betting and how it has finished me totally https://www.nairaland.com/5996073/need-bet9ja-finished-life The link is above. I got so many comments and messages; both positive and negative. Some even messaged me privately with promises to follow my matter up. I discovered that the power to stop betting laid solely in my hands and I took action. I sincerely want to thank everyone for their advice and suggestions. To the glory of God, I've overcome that addiction and I no longer play sports virtual betting anymore. There have been significant changes in my life. I have also been able to offset my debts totally. The peace of mind I have these days cannot be explained. I remember I made mention of the face that I owed a particularll guy over a hundred thousand naira; I have been able to pay that debt wholly. I am at peace now with myself and my environment. I have looked back and that is why I have decided to share my story and how I overcame this addiction. I want to encourage as many as are passing through the same challenge. You will definitely overcome it as you follow my story. The mods should please helpe push to front page as this will help a lot of people who are struggling at the moment. 119 Likes 4 Shares |

Politics / Nigeria Is On The Brink Of Collapsing by Evidence1000(m): 7:58am On May 19, 2022 |
Nigeria is on the brink of collapsing but most people are yet to realise it. Everything is in disarray in this country. From killings to uprising and even the current ASUU strike. Most state governors owe salaries. Abia state governor is the chief debtor in this aspect. There are even rumours that he wanted to borrow another 6 billion to put the state in debt. Kogi state governor is another person that I don't even want to talk about. Students are at home because of strike whereas the accountant general was busy stealing 80billion naira. Where are we going to as a country? It is clear that we cannot be together as one nation again. My earnest prayer is that 2023 elections are free, fair and peaceful because with all these happenings, Nigeria might separate soonest. |

The Maghreb countries do not consider themselves as part of Africa. They were the ones that gave other parts that are not in the North the name, "Sub-Sahara" Africa. Their closeness to Europe makes them better. When I saw the headline, I expecting a city from either Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia or Libya. 5 Likes |
