Johnfavour:Any proof? |
chufor:Yes, in most instances. |
braimeddy:I'm just setting the record straight that medicine is an unclassified degree and the fact that she is the best in Sudan doesn't mean she'll be the best in Nigeria or have a distinction (which is non-existent in the first place). The blog just made the story up to get traffic, that's the point. |

This is to debunk the incorrect news fabricated by a blog but posted on nairaland that a young lady got disctinction in the assessment exams of MDCN for foreign trained Doctors and Dentists. Yes, the intelligent young lady was the best student in sudan which is a wonderful feat but she did not not get a distinction in the MDCN exam as shown in the results below This is the link to the previous thread https://www.nairaland.com/3919927/abdulkadir-islamiyat-oluwatoyin-passes-nigerian For the records, no foreign trained medical student has ever gotten a distinction in the individual Clinical courses of the MDCN exam and there's no way one will get one distinction for numerous clinical courses so its either a PASS or a FAIL if you pass everything or fail any respectively. You can check out the results in a tabular form in the MDCN website below as NL doesnt support tables https://www.mdcn.gov.ng/blog/our-news-1/post/assessment-examination-results-april-2017-held-in-luth-49 A break down of the result shows that 331 doctors who qualified from countries outside the country, 159 (48%) PASSED, 167 (51%) FAILED AND 5 were absent. For details, check the MDCN website above. |

Posted: 26/Feb/2016 Hungarian doctors receive lectures during their training on Tropical Medicine at the Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria yesterday. The Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria is today completing a three-week training of 16 doctors from Hungary on tropical diseases. Professor Sani Garko of ABU’s Faculty of Medicine said yesterday that the training is part of the collaboration that the university has with Budapest University of Hungary. “This collaboration cuts across many areas like engineering, medicine, alternative energy, among others. This training was organised by ABU to train the Hungarian doctors on tropical medicine, an area in which they are not versed,” Garko explained. Speaking on behalf of the trainees, Dr. Beata Hunfalvy of the Budapest Medical Centre said the training afforded them the opportunity of acquiring knowledge on tropical diseases and their cure. Hunfalvy said they were surprised by the expertise of the Nigerian doctors, saying that they would go back home not only with the knowledge they acquired but “with some of the wonderful things that we have seen here.” By: Isa Sa’idu, Zaria Daily Trust News http://www.medicalworldnigeria.com/2016/02/abu-trains-16-hungarian-doctors-on-tropical-diseases

"When they say the standard of education in Nigeria has dwindled, reasons like this is why they say so". I agree with you babalawoo Or how else can we describe the president of ACADEMIC Staff Union of UNIVERSITIES not knowing that a medical fellowship (which is a FULL-TIME postgraduate studies of at least 6 year and even up to 12 years in some subspecialties) is greater and higher than a PhD? This is really appalling. So you expect a professor of Medicine to go and do Masters and PhD in a basic science or medical science course like anatomy before he can a vice chancellor? That's why we are backward in this part of the world. We find one archaic way or the other to relegate the best brains. |
