EducationRe: JCI In Nigerian Universities. by Evvilgenius: 2:18pm On Aug 09, 2015
Keyana:
Good day to you all, I am a student of one of the Federal Universities in Nigeria. From the little research I made about JCI (Junior Chambers International), it seems like a great organization to be a part of but I need firsthand information.

If you are/were a member, executive, etc. your opinion is needed. Thanks in advance.

Front page please for a wider audience @fynestboi
Does your school have a local chapter? That will be the best way to know all you wanna. It's a great international organization that targets to create "social responsibility" in youth (18-40) and foster international integration too.
Where's your school/location? I may be able to link you up.

In whatever position we find ourselves, whether accidentally or with deliberate efforts, its important we do good and leave a good legacy. It's best we do our best to improve the lives and lots of our fellow men, as in the end everything is vanity but it is a thing of joy to be remembered as one who brought peace and prosperity, who made the lives of many better and sweeter.

I used Ventoline, Asmanol, Franol and now I use Perilon.

A few nights ago, perilon stopped working for me so I had to fall back on my Inhaler.

I hate the Inhaler cause it makes me dependent.

Its not easy I tell u.
Ventolin inhaler for instance contains salbutamol which is a short acting Beta agonist. It makes you dependent because its duration of action is short. There are long-acting agents to be used and there's a standard stepwise management for asthma which I'll advice you see a doctor for one.

I've also noticed many people here are abusing prednisolone. Prednisolone is used in managing asthma but is to be used when there's a severe attack or an attack refractory to other drugs and its usually used for a maximum of 2 weeks in these instances.

Lastly, the importance of avoidance of precipating factors, as much as possible, cannot be overemphasized.
HealthRe: I Have Been Suffering From Severe Pimples For More Than 10years Now. Pls Help by Evvilgenius:
kazzonline:
Wiyh my vast research i can categorically state that therr is not a permanent cure for acne/pimples it can only be managed but for you to hav a clear and spotless skin back, unless its goes by it self.

Acne has damaged my face, i hav scars, whiteheads and blackheads and it has really killed my self esteem a lot, because people would always percieve you as dirty and look at you funny no matter how hard or how many times you wash your face.

People would always prescribe diff otc medications but none works, also they would tell you to eat well, fruits and vegetables, dont take sugar, milk and oily food all na scam, i hav done all those stuffs, fasted for weeks just taking water and fruits alone, my acne still cam.

Which brings me to the conclusion, there is no cure, anyone on nairaland or anywhere in nigeria that can proove he or she has a cure shld contact me with before and after pictures, i dont mind the cost i would pay for this trauma to end plssssss
Did you seek specialist medical attention? IMO I think people suffer needlessly because they don't know where to solve their problems. Even though dermatologists are very scarce in Nigeria, I know UCH and Unilorin TH have, there may a few others but if you can visit these hospitals or any other with a dermatologist, your problem will most certainly be solved.
HealthRe: I Have Been Suffering From Severe Pimples For More Than 10years Now. Pls Help by Evvilgenius: 9:04am On May 25, 2015
Pimples is the least health problem that should linger. Just get a qualified doctor, he will evaluate you and treat you or refer you to a dermatologist for specialist care if you are among the very few that have severe cystic and nodular acne.

If someone present with chest pain and you order mri ecg and echo only to discover it's from chest muscles. After paying about 80k. I will collect my money back.
Lol. A doc won't just order for those. Chest pain can be from the lungs, heart, chest wall, pleura etc. A doc will most certainly know where it's from by asking you questions and won't just jump into investigations.

I never said test while bleeding.....She should have been stabilized(infusion therapy,Tranexamic acid, etc)to prevent shock and exploratory laparatomy should be done afterwards to find out the cause.
Lol. Infusing an actively bleeding patient will do little. It is of utmost important to locate the source of, and arrest the bleeding. Only blood transfusion will be of much help in this case and no one knows what the health center in question is like.

bigass:
if you do wrong test that doesn't correlate a patient may demand a refund
IMO there's really no such thing as a wrong test. A doctor won't demand for test that is not related to his clinical findings. Even if the test comes out negative, it has only informed him that what the test is looking for is unlikely and that has further narrowed down the definitive diagnosis (by excluding what the test is to detect).. Hope you get..

And by "doctors" I don't mean those quacks (that didn't go to medical school or didn't finish) that litter the streets of Nigeria.

This is an emergency case
Tests even when the patient is actively bleeding? Do u know how long some of these tests might take?

In saner climes, that doctor risk losing his licence for negligence of duty. He ought to carry out appropriate medical test and not rely on the patient's account. A doctor should diagnose ailment before proceeding with any treatment and not rely on patients account of symptoms. He really have a lot to answer.

DrAify and KingTom, what are your take on this.
No sir! Doctors rely 70% on what you tell them, 20% on their clinical examination and 10% on tests. They use your symptoms to know what's wrong. Different diseases have different ways of manifestation that's why they ask you many questions. The examination is to confirm what they already think, same with the tests (or to differentiate very similar conditions).
PoliticsRe: My Take On Pastor Adeboye Donating Ambulance To Israel - Cramjones by Evvilgenius: 1:16am On May 15, 2015
cramjones:
I read with utter shock that Pastor E. A Adeboye donated an Ambulance to Israel: Here is the link to the story, and pictures posted.\

http://lindaikeji..com/2015/05/photos-pastor-adeboye-donates-ambulance.html#more

To highlight the stupidity of this donation, let us look at the statistics of Israel compared to Nigeria.

This is a quote from Wikipedia on Israeli's ambulance services for a population of just 7 million people compared to Nigeria's 180 million.

1. While the MDA currently has approximately 1,200 medics, paramedics and emergency physicians on staff, it still relies heavily on over 12,000 volunteers who serve in both operational and administrative capacities. The organization operates 95 stations with a fleet of over 728 ambulances. The majority of the fleet consists of Basic Life Support (BLS) ambulances. These are supplemented by Advanced Life Support (ALS) ambulances, mobile intensive care units (MICU) and a variety of first responders. This means about 1 ambulance per 9000 people

Meanwhile according Vconnect Nigeria only has about 62 ambulance services, which has no central coordination. No data exist on number of paramedics in Nigeria. There are no defibrillators ALL Nigerian teaching hospitals. Making it 1 ill equiped ambulance/2.9 million people compared to Israel's 1 ambulance/9000 people.

2. According to Peer review article in the New England Journal of Medicine Road fatalities in Nigeria is 425 per 100,000 people per year. While that of Israel is 9.5 per 100,000 people per year.

3. If Pastor Adeboye have a heart attack or a stroke (God forbid) in Nigeria, he is as good as dead, because there are no places in the country that can take care of him optimally or an ambullance that will come to his rescue in 5 minutes. Even if there is, I bet they do not have defibrillators or emergency surgical kit. The Israeli's must be saying "Look at these dumb Africans".

4. My prayer is for African to start getting some sense. Hopefully we would. Good radiance to bad rubbish!

-CramJones
In as much as I agree with your faulting his donation to Israel when his home country is much in need of the facility in question, I don't agree on your submission that no tertiaryhospital in Nigeria has a defribillator. It is also a disservice to all the neurologists and other physicians to say one cannot survive stroke in Nigeria when they work day and night to prevent stroke and have helped innumerable thousands to live on despite suffering a stroke.

In as much as our system is not working and we want to emphasize that fact, we should not be insensitive to the plight of those who work hard and record successes in a malfuctional and low resource system.

HealthRe: The Real Reason Nigerian Hospitals Ask For Police Report In Trauma Patients by Evvilgenius: 10:49pm On Mar 11, 2015
The OP is just too dull for christ's sake. Intellectual anergy really puts me off. Djdola (may his soul rest in peace) was already diagnosed of cancer histologically in one of the teaching hospitals long before he came on here, so I don't know what the OP is saying again.
The fact that he was being taken around different hospitals was the problem IMO, every specialist will want to examine clinically and do investigations to confirm the diagnosis before starting chemo (medicolegal reasons and all). So nobody can blame anybody.
HealthRe: The Real Reason Nigerian Hospitals Ask For Police Report In Trauma Patients by Evvilgenius: 10:39pm On Mar 11, 2015
If words were taxed, few will be rich. If you have nothing to say, say nothing.

Babyosisi or whatever the OP calls herself is just another attention seeking psychotic on the loose. Someone that doesn't know the differences in the structures and functions of primary, secondary and tertiary healthcare is not worth any response.

Nigerian doctors have proven over and over again that they are superb and that they just need a conducive environment to manifest.

Fact is, if you can work in a low-resource setting where you depend more on your clinical skills to make diagnosis, then you'll definitely excel where resources abound and every investigation can easily be requested.

I Ǻ♍ a licenced nurse nd presently in midwifery programme in Abia state university. Pls tell ur wife to go for rhesus factor test. If she is rhesus negative then she needs to take a drug called.Rogam. Its sold for like 18k or more. I don't know if its the trad name of the drug but that's what she needs.
Be strong OP, help is on the way..the situation is very redeemable.
Forget this Rhesus factor crap as its only if your wife is Rh -ve and has given birth to Rh +ve baby or carried such baby to term before.

There are various causes of unviable pregnancies. In a layman's language, an unviable pregnancy is a pregnancy that cannot form a normal baby and will ususally abort spontaneously (itself) and so is better terminated earlier so it doesnt cause grave complications.

Your wife needs a specialist (A doctor that has specialized in obstetrics nd gynaecology) for full medical workup and she needs to be as truthful nd detailed as possible in the responses she'll be giving.

Common causes of abnormal or unviable pregnancies in this environment are herbal concotions, drugs, diseases like diabetes mellitus (v. important), molar pregnancies etc so she really needs a complete workup.

Hit like if u concur
Lol. OP is a joker. LAUTECH TH's ambulance is almost always in Ilorin coz they bring cases they handle (either they don't have specialists for such cases or coz of inadequate equipments) to unilorin TH.
As far as I'm concerned, UITH is one of the best THs in West Africa...They perform laser surgeries (the only in Nigeria as of sm months ago), have at least a prof in almost all clinical subspecialties (up to 7 in internal medicine and 8 in paediatrics..even hv profs in depts like ophthalmology, otorhinolaryngology, plastic surgery, neurosurgery etc)

Well, the writer of d article is a blogger and Nigerian bloggers are know for no research at all, so their lists are usually neither credible nor sensible.
