abousadeaq:If that is still the case, it is a great positive for Nigerian universities vs. some allegedly elite American ones that pass out As like candy. But for very many years private universities were not allowed, resources are low, corruption is rife, and brain drain is real, with many smart Nigerians leaving for academic careers elsewhere. And, coming into the university, the average student is not as well-prepared as he should be. Improving primary schools helps fix the secondary schools, and that helps fix the universities. |
Is the mastermind show he hosted available on youtube or elsewhere on the internet? Would be neat to see. |
hush15:100% it is a very important life skill. There was a big cultural push in the early 1900s in the US to increase the number of people who could swim, and this saved a lot of lives. At one point most US universities required passing a swim test in order to graduate, and even today some of the more famous universities -- MIT, Dartmouth, Columbia -- still require it. |
What a cool problem. Thanks! |
I know there may be multiple ways to achieve this especially when you be maths student, but here's my own version:(7 * -3 + -3)(-1) There's a game sold in the US called the "24 game" -- cards with four numbers on it that can be multiplied/subtracted/added and divided to get 24. Some of the versions add complexity -- double digit numbers, factors, fractions, etc , or reduce compexity for younger kids, only requiring them to add & subtract. It's a lot of fun! https://www.24game.com/ |
NDSMELODY:We call it PEMDAS in America: parentheses, exponentiation, multiplication/division, addition/subtraction. Same results. |
samtol4:Salary for social workers in the US is high by Nigerian standards (as are expenses), but in the US holders of master's degrees in social work make about as much as a US high school graduate. |
ayoncox:Yeah, I was interested but that I haven't been able to access their site after a couple days of trying makes me think there would be too many problems. |
Greetings! I have tried several times over the past few days to access the University of Ibadan's distance learning site -- dlc.ui.edu.ng -- but it keeps failing. However, I am coming from overseas, so maybe there are firewall issues. Are people in Nigeria able to access it?

Seems far better, at this point, for the federal government to get out of the university sector entirely, and either privatize universities or transfer them the states. Let the individual states make their own deals with the ASUU. The fight between an ASUU monopoly and the government's monopsony will never end, no matter how much money sloshes through the system. |
I think it was Jane Austen who once wrote that she was sorry that a letter was so long, but that she did not have enough time to make it shorter. |
"hfhvvnjerje" This shows the clear quality of writing that you can expect if you cheat and use their services. |
jonnyrichie:I was thinking that it might be one of the bones of the inner ear, but they all connect to each other. Answer is Hyoid. This is a bone that supports the tongue. |
OptimistSky:Something that isn't mentioned, is why a university might not charge an application fee. The most important reason - and probably the only reason for the top schools - is because the most popular university ranking system in the USA uses "selectiveness" as a measure. The more people a university rejects relative to the number of people who it admits, the higher its ranking is. This doesn't mean you shouldn't play the lottery and apply, but it does mean that you should not expect them to look at you seriously. |
Lean into it! Trains driving through markets are a tourist attraction in Thailand. Watch to end of video to see the market reset itself. https://www.youtube.com/embed/1aZFetrUEo0 |
Get a basic cookbook. Read a few recipes. Then watch some youtube videos for the simple dishes you pick -- the videos make it easier to understand the technique, and having read the recipes you know what the person on the video is trying to do. The ladies will be impressed that you made something for them. |
That's interesting -- I had never heard of either "carabeef" or "chevon". Chevon is a relatively new term, invented by a goat meat trade association in 1922. Carabeef is a funny word - the Philippine water buffalo are called carabao, and so in the USA they are synonymous. From now on I will call snake meat "sneak". |
LiveLifeHub:Speaking as someone in the developed world, what actually happens is teachers and bureaucrats jump onto whatever ridiculous fad is popular at the time, paying no attention to whether or not it helps students learn. These new practices generally make things worse, but even the rare successful ones are replaced in turn by the next foolish idea to come along. Count your blessings, my friend! There are things far worse than "19th century education". |
I've been working around universities for a long time and have never heard of using ledger in the context of admissions. I suspect that they made a mistake. University of South Africa uses similar phrasing, but ask for a "legend". "Copy of your tertiary academic qualifications, including the legend." https://w2.unisa.ac.za/www.unisa.ac.za/sites/corporate/default/Apply-for-admission/International-students.html Anyway, I interpret this to mean they want your transcript - a list of all the courses you've taken and the grades for each. But I think your best bet is to check with the university itself and ask them if that is what is intended. |
