Young pharmacist shot dead days after opening her pharmacy in South Africa A young pharmacist, Nomzila Madinane, has been shot and k!lled in a brazen attack in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. The deadly shooting which occurred at her pharmacy in Inchanga on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, also claimed the lives of a cashier and a security guard. It was gathered that Madinane had opened the new pharmacy a few days ago to improve access to healthcare in KwaNyuswa, near Hillcrest. KwaZulu-Natal police confirmed that three m8rder cases have been opened following the d3adly shooting. According to reports, pharmacist Nomzila Madinane had recently opened the pharmacy after identifying a need for easier access to medication in the community, where many residents were allegedly forced to travel long distances for healthcare services. The attack has left residents shocked and devastated, with many describing Madinane as a young entrepreneur committed to serving her community. Police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda said the victims were ambushed by unknown gunmen while at the pharmacy. “Inchanga police opened three cases of m8rder following an incident in which two females and a security guard were shot by unknown people,” said Netshiunda. “The victims were fatally shot while the security guard sustained a gunshot wound and was taken to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.” “Reports indicate that three armed men stormed the pharmacy and opened fire, k!lling Madinane and her cashier at the scene.” The security guard was reportedly shot while attempting to intervene. Earlier reports suggested he had been fighting for his life in hospital before police later confirmed his d3ath. The motive for the attack remains unclear, with investigators expected to determine whether the shooting was linked to robbery or another motive. https://www.facebook.com/100050487580007/posts/1592584649101106/?app=fbl

A federal high court in Abuja has sentenced Saleh Mamman, a former minister of power, to 75 years in prison for money laundering and fraud to the tune of N33.8 billion. Mamman was convicted on all 12 counts preferred against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). He was sentenced to seven years each on 10 counts and handed three years and two years each on counts four and five of the charge. James Omotosho, presiding judge, held that the sentence should run consecutively without the option of a fine, except on count four, which allows for a N10 million fine. Advertisement The court also ordered the forfeiture of foreign currencies that were recovered from the convict, as well as four choice properties in Abuja that were traced to him. In July 2024, the EFCC arraigned Mamman on a 12-count charge bordering on alleged money laundering and conspiracy with officials at the ministry and some private companies to “indirectly convert” the sum of N33.8 billion meant for the Zungeru and Mambilla hydroelectric power projects. He had pleaded not guilty to the charge marked FHC/ABJ/CR/273/2024. The EFCC had called 17 witnesses who testified before the court and tendered 43 exhibits before closing its case. On May 7, Mamman was convicted in absentia. Omotosho held that he was satisfied that the anti-graft agency had successfully established the ex-minister’s culpability beyond a reasonable doubt. The court also issued a warrant for his arrest. Mohammed Ahmed, who announced his appearance for the convict on Wednesday, told the court that he did not know Mamman’s whereabouts, adding that calls placed to his phone lines had failed to connect. After the sentencing, Omotosho ordered all security agencies to liaise with Interpol to ensure the convict’s arrest. The court held that the sentence should start running from the day of his arrest. https://www.thecable.ng/breaking-court-sentences-ex-power-minister-saleh-mamman-to-75-years-in-prison-for-n33-8bn-fraud/ |
e.l.f. Cosmetics co-founder Scott-Vincent Borba, 50, gives up career to become a Catholic priest Scott-Vincent Borba, e.l.f Cosmetics co-founder, will be ordained a priest on May 23, 2026, in the Diocese of Fresno, California. The internationally famous cosmetics executive, who before age 30 had spearheaded successful business campaigns for some of beauty’s biggest brands, including Neutrogena, Sebastian, Joico, Murad and Hard Candy, is now a Deacon after giving up his career for the religious life. At age 50, seminarian Scott-Vincent Borba says he doesn’t consider his to be a late vocation. “God called me at age 10,” he told OSV News. “I just accepted late.” Now in his pastoral year at St. Patrick’s University and Seminary in Menlo Park, Borba chuckled as he recalled how he drove a luxury car and wore an expensive black suit to his first meeting with his vocation director. “(The director) opened the door, looked at me and said, ‘I have got a lot of work to do on you,'” recalled Borba, who is studying to be a priest for the Diocese of Fresno. Besides being an internationally famous cosmetics executive which made him a household name, Borba even developed his own eponymous brand of skin-balancing water, with Anheuser-Busch signing on for a marketing and distribution deal. He had several books to his credit, such as “Skintervention” and “Cooking Your Way to Gorgeous.” Borba also modeled as a youth, was an esthetician to the stars, and even gave actress Mila Kunis a $7,000 facial — using microcrystals from diamonds and rubies — for the 2011 Golden Globe awards. He’d had an office in Beverly Hills, a beach house not far away, and a social life that included parties with Paris Hilton and millions in the bank. However, amid what seemed to be a nonstop wave of fortune and fame, he was miserable. “I was at a party and I was very, very unhappy,” Borba told OSV News. “I just felt like I was empty and I was empty. I was exhausted. I was burning the candle on both ends.” Right on the spot, Borba looked up to heaven. “I said, ‘God, if this is life, where all you do is work and party and do that all over again and di£, then this is not the life that I think that you have made for me. But I can only change if you help me,'” he recalled. In response, Borba experienced a sudden conviction about his worldly ways, the reality of sin and hell, and God’s power to save. “I said, ‘Help me … I don’t want to do this (anymore),'” Borba said. “I was sincere about it and asking for God’s help, (and) he gave me my conversion. … It was God’s grace all over me.” Subsequently, Borba packed his bags, left his house and checked into a hotel. “I just didn’t want to be at my house anymore,” he said. “Everything reminded me of sin. … I was telling God, ‘I am so sorry for having ever offended you.'” Over the next few years, he moved away from Los Angeles and began divesting himself of his wealth — in stages, Borba admitted. “At that point, God called me to give up everything, and I thought that meant just my cars,” he said. “So I had an Aston Martin convertible, and I said, ‘All right, Lord, I’m gonna sell this car, give the money to charity, and then use some other money to get myself a truck.’ Then he said, ‘Give it all up.'” Borba said the Virgin Mary has been instrumental in his vocation journey. Borba recalled how after a particular childhood prayer intention was answered favorably following a rosary he prayed, he “asked Mary to stay with me, to keep me and to hold me throughout my entire life. “I know that our Blessed Mother has brought me into this vocation because of her love for me and for her Son,” said Borba. Even when he headed to Los Angeles after college to seek worldly success, Borba — who had then lapsed in his practice of the faith — still instinctively sought to connect with God. On the drive there, “God gave me the grace to turn off my radio, roll down my window and scream out to him, ‘Father, Father, please help me achieve some of my dreams. And upon achieving those, I will give you back my life and service,'” said Borba. Now, Borba — who left those dreams behind at age 40, and entered the seminary at 42 — is making good on that promise. “I have never been happier. I have never been more full of joy,” he said. “With everything the world can give me, I would give it back a million times over to be united to Jesus.” https://www.lindaikejisblog.com/2026/5/elf-cosmetics-co-founder-scott-vincent-borba-50-gives-up-career-to-become-a-catholic-priest.html

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, on Thursday, May 7, convicted a former Minister of Power, Mr. Saleh Mamman, on a 12-count fraud and money laundering charge preferred against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The court, in a judgment delivered by Justice James Omotosho, said it was satisfied that the anti-graft agency had successfully established the former Minister’s culpability beyond reasonable doubt. The court convicted him on all grounds of the charge marked FHC/ABJ/CR/273/2024. Mamman, who served in the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari, was found complicit in the illegal diversion of public funds totalling about ₦33.8 billion. The court found that he made a cash payment of $655,700 (equivalent to ₦200 million) for landed property in Abuja, without recourse to a financial institution. He was also found guilty of criminal breach of trust in relation to funds released by the federal government for the Mambilla and Zungeru Hydroelectric Power Plant projects. The court noted that most of the funds were siphoned through Bureau de Change operators (BDCs), who converted the money into foreign currencies and handed it over to the defendant. “The evidence of the prosecution is overwhelming as against the scanty and almost absent defence of the defendant. “The defendant did not offer any credible evidence to rebut the prosecution’s case,” Justice Omotosho held. The trial judge lamented that the defendant, as Minister of Power, was not bothered about leaving a lasting legacy. “Rather than creating a legacy to tackle the epileptic power supply in the country, the defendant was living large at the expense of ordinary citizens. “Little wonder that Nigerians have remained in darkness till today,” the judge added. Meanwhile, the defendant was absent when he was convicted by the court. Consequently, the court deferred his sentence, even as the EFCC applied for a warrant of arrest to be issued against him. A lawyer, Mr. Mohammed Ahmed, who announced his appearance for the defendant, told the court that since last Tuesday when the notice of the scheduled judgment was issued, the defendant’s whereabouts had remained unknown. He said the defendant’s personal assistant later disclosed that he was sick. The defence lawyer’s spirited efforts to persuade the court to defer the judgment to a later date failed. The trial judge referenced news items indicating that the defendant had been actively involved in political activities, having purchased a form to contest the governorship election in Taraba State. On his part, the EFCC’s lawyer, Mr. Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, urged the court to proceed with the judgment, insisting there was no reasonable justification for the defendant’s absence. “My Lord should go ahead. If the judgment is in his favour, we know what to do. If it is against him, we also know what to do,” the prosecution counsel added. Mamman was arrested in 2021, about four months after he was removed from office by ex-President Buhari. The EFCC produced 17 witnesses who testified before the court and tendered 43 exhibits before closing its case. The agency, among other things, alleged that he conspired with staff members of the ministry to divert about ₦22bn that was meant for the Zungeru and Mambilla Hydro Electric Power projects. The anti-graft agency said its investigations revealed that the suspects used the funds to acquire choice assets, both within and outside the country. https://www.lindaikejisblog.com/2026/5/ex-power-minister-saleh-mamman-convicted-of-n338bn-fraud.html

“I would rather die than remove Jesus from my profile” - Spyro recounts industry pressure to drop his faith Nigerian singer Spyro has opened up about a defining moment in his career — one where his faith was put to the test by those closest to him in the industry. The singer revealed that after leaving his former record label in 2019 to start his own journey, he took out bank and personal loans to fund his career. With no external financial backing, Spyro says he relied solely on determination, hard work, and his faith in God. However, not everyone on his team believed that his overt Christian branding was a good idea. According to Spyro, some team members approached him suggesting he change or tone down his “Jesus Boy” identity, arguing it might be limiting his appeal and financial opportunities. They even advised him to remove “Christ Ambassador” from his profile. “I remember saying I would rather DIE than remove Jesus from my profile,” Spyro recounted, adding that while he understood their point of view, he could not compromise on his convictions. When he refused to budge, one person suggested he at least change it to “Child of God,” calling it a broader term. But Spyro stood firm, insisting that the name of Jesus would open doors for him. Fast forward to now, and Spyro says the same people who doubted him are calling to commend his success. “A lot of artistes are suffering now — no deals, no shows — but you are in a very good place and I am proud of you,” one team member reportedly told him. FBI and the Ghanaian government have seized singer Shatta Wale’s Lamborghini linked to $4.7m fraud case in US https://tribuneonlineng.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Shatta-Wale.jpg Ghana’s Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), in collaboration with the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the US Justice Department, have seized a luxury vehicle, a 2019 Lamborghini Urus from popular dancehall musician, Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., popularlycknown as Shatta Wale. In a press release issued by EOCO’s acting Executive Director, Raymond Archer, the agency said the seizure was carried out following a 2023 request from US authorities. The operation took place at Shatta Wale’s residence in Trassaco Valley Phase 1, Accra. “In June this year, the Economic and Organised Crime Office, acting on a 2023 request from the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) and the United States Justice Department, undertook an operation which led to a lawful search in a home at Trassaco Valley Phase 1, in Accra. “The operation which was undertaken by the Surveillance AndcAsset Recovery Unit (SARU) of EOCO led to the discovery andcseizure of a 2019 Lamborghini Urus which the FBI and the Justice Department have tied to the proceeds of the criminal enterprise of one Nana Kwabena Amuah who is currentlycserving an 86-month sentence for several financial crimes incthe US,” the statement partly read. EOCO revealed that the luxury vehicle was found in Shatta Wale’s possession. He was allowed to surrender it voluntarilycto avoid a public scene. “The car was seized from one Charles Nii Armah, aka ShattacWale. The officers were professional and civil, and the search cancseizure occurred without incident. Nii Armah had pleaded with officers that he did not want the seizure to be made public because the vehicle was a big part of his brand, and that if his supporters saw the vehicle being driven away in the company of EOCO, it would destroy his brand. Nii Armah was allowed to surrender the vehicle himself, which is currently incthe possession of EOCO,” the statement explained. The agency clarified that SARU officers were armed during thecoperation as a routine safety measure. “It is a standard safety protocol practice for officers of thecSurveillance and Asset Recovery Unit (SARU) to carrycweapons whilst on operation for the safety of officers,” the statement added. According to EOCO, the Lamborghini is linked to criminal proceeds from Nana Kwabena Amuah, who owes $4.74 million in restitution to US authorities. The vehicle is expected to be repatriated to the United States as part of that recovery effort. “The FBI and the Justice Department intend to send a formal Mutual Legal Assistance (MLA) to the Government of Ghanacto return the car to the United States as part of Nana Kwabena Amuah’s $4,743,443 restitution. Charles Nii Armah, aka ShattacWale and a former senior officer of the National Signal Bureau (NSB), have been assessed as persons of interest and will be invited by EOCO to assist in further ongoing investigations in the coming days.” EOCO also confirmed it may share its final investigation report with US authorities as part of continued cooperation. “EOCO may share the final investigations report to the FBI and the Justice Department as part of our ongoing cooperation,” the statement concluded. https://www.lindaikejisblog.com/2025/8/fbi-and-the-ghanaian-government-have-seized-singer-shatta-wales-lamborghini-linked-to-47m-fraud-case-in-us.html |
