I'm from Abia, but unfortunately i don't know much about the place. Nonetheless, i have a keen interest in every single ant that walks on that soil. Personally, i feel the governorship tussle in Abia is like being between the devil and the deep blue sea. As much as the performance of T.A. Orji has been unsatisfactory so far, i still do not want the OUK family to cash in on the situation. Abia state is not a family inheritance. Its really a smart move on the part of APGA, at least to get rid of these alien parties that are remote-controlled by people who dont have Igbo interests at heart. Perhaps we may get to see the true face of T.A. Orji when he's let loose from the OUK family bondage. |
Just another slowpoke to be ignored! With your biased generalization, you have simply defeated any line of argument you may have. Go and check EFCC records and count how many Igbos you have in their blackbook. Psychopathetic scum like you! |
One characteristic of igbo psyche is tolerance for foreign cultures and a high tendency to assimilate them after a while, in constrast to the other aforementioned major ethnic group(s). This tendency in itself is not wrong. The problem, however, arises when it is done at the expense of one's own cultural identity. The western igbos, to some extent, seem to have fell into this situation of adopting foreign culture at the detriment of their traditional ways and identity. Take the case of the transatlantic slave trade. Barbados and Haiti are renowned as enclaves of igbo slaves' descendants. But how much of their igbo identity was preserved? Not much to be desired. Even the revered deity Amadioha was forgotten. Knowing our weakness, igbos must fight against this trend of adopting foreign customs at the cost of the beautiful identity bequeathed to us by our ancestors if we must avoid another Barbados/Haiti loss in identity and some igbo denials. |
As courteous igbo kinsmen, we must learn to pardon the unruly attitudes of our Yoruba folks lest we diminish the very essence of our cultural values-democratic freedom of speech for all. They anxiously want to learn about us, but go about it in wrong measures. |
you want to throw away an 8-yr-old relationship? Why? What wrong did she do? Was she unfaithful or disrespect u? I really envy you. I have a girl like that. Fair like anything. Problem is she's stingy. Yet i'm still with her because i believe she'll change. Pls dont throw away a good thing. |
@tpiah I was only giving an instance. So why the rancour? |
AYODEJI4LOVE:Go and start another thread for that. Its off-point here. |
whiteroses:Dear, dont be worried. Believe, igbos are the most accommodating i've seen in this world. Why? Igbos are very migratory in nature. They cannot to be hostile to strangers because most times they are often strangers. Probably you are yoruba. She worked in Lagos? Many igbos who lived/worked in Lagos develop what i call 'retaliatory dislike' (myself inclusive) due to the unwelcome attitude of the locals to immigrants. Its your boyfriend that will 'sell' you to his mum, together with your attitude. Normally, igbo girls are raised to be hardworking, they do all stuff of tough task, like ride bicycles. I'm not saying you ride a bicycle, just showing how tough igbo girls are expected to be. If you are not lousy and industrious, you'll be good enough for any igbo mother-in-law and accepted. |
Fiscabally:Yes. Once in a while, there's an exception to the normal rules. But looking at it from a holistic point of veiw, the margin is slim(probably 1 percent)compared to the ones on the other hand. |
you want to marry 6-yr-olds when they are supposed to be in primary school? I feel sorry for you. |

I also thank God for using GJ to break the yourba/gambari oligarchy. At least there's some light at the tunnel now. These power-drunk duo have held this country to its kneels for close to half a century, with nothing to show for it. |
It really amazes me how we cope in this jungle called Nigeria. And some fools are busy deceiving themselves that we are united. Except we confederate with a weak central government where people will go back to their states/regions or whatever we chose to call it, we will continue to complaint. Mind you, never expect a fair president, even GEJ has started showing where heart lies-ND! |
excanny:So what do we call this type of person? Still igbo? Tribalistic minds will. But to me, probably not a proper igbo. This one of the reasons i'm advocating that igbo men should not be carrying along their women/daughters to foreign lands, especially in this unsafe jungle called Nigeria. They should be in igboland and having monies sent to them if need be, while we hustle anywhere. This is how to live in foreign lands. This way we wont have the above identity confusion. |
Actually i'll say sth thats quite politically incorrect. No proper igbo girl will marry a yourba cock(i mean born and breed in igboland). Most of the igbo girls who are born in yourbaland(especially Lagos) grow up with some form of inferiority complex. I've personally met quite a number. Usually they speak little or no igbo, are unfamiliar with igbo culture, but fluent in yourba. So yourba cocks with no game to hook up a yourba chick find these as easier prey. Ofcourse they usually falld to find 'solace' for their inferiority complex(not all though) So for a yourba cock to marry an igbo girl 2 conditions must be met: 1. The igbo girl is breed in yourbaland, usually speaks yourba, culturally disconnected from her native igbo homeland. 2. The yourba cock has no game to get a yourba girl. From my findings and interveiws on inter-tribal relationships, its the same reasons why you have more hausa men marrying yourba girls. Many of my hausa friends have yourba wives |
oyinda.:Women are more likely than men to be confronted with threats of assault(especially sexual). Women are more likely seen as soft targets by perpetrators of crime, with reference to the late time of the day. The custom is not degrading to women, neither was the OP trying to relegate women, as some of your questions seem to suggest, but is actually protective of our womenfolk. |
GEJ should not feel intimidated. We the rest of Nigeria(SE, SW, SS, some parts of NC and some progressives)are solidly behind him. How can we allow a bunch of people to dictate our destiny. NEVER! |
A political campaign vehicle with inscription “Jonathan for Presidency 2011” was in the euarly hours of yesterday set ablaze by unknown persons. The Honda 84 campaign car was burnt down in front of the house of a People Democratic Party (P.D.P) governorship aspirant, Alhaji Hassan Kangiwa in the Government Reservation Area (G.R.A), Birnin Kebbi. THISDAY investigation revealed that the campaign vehicle driven by one Abdullahi Zuru was from Sokoto State and wanted to pass the night in the house of the politician. Eye witness account told THISDAY that Mallam Zuru who brought the car was inside the house while the unknown people set the car ablaze and ran away. One of the aides of the politician, Mallam Mohammed Hassan said their father was not around when the incident happened but that they have reported the matter to the police. When our correspondent visited the house of the politician yesterday, some policemen including men of the state Security Services (SSS) were seen inspecting the burnt vehicle The state Police Commissioner, Alhaji Sahad Umar Dalhatu when contacted on phone declined comment on the issue because he claimed to have travelled to Abuja since Tuesday but directed our correspondent to see the Divisional Police Officer (D.P.O) Birnin Kebbi, Alhaji Abdulkarim Nuhu for comment. The D.P.O confirmed the incident that the matter was reported to the police yesterday and investigation had commenced on the issue. According to Nuhu “The man reported that immediately they set the car ablaze, they ran away and because they were many he could not pursue them”. He promised to make their findings public after thorough investigation. http//:www.thisdayonline.com/nview.php?id=176232 |
Andre Uweh:I actually didn't want to comment on this topic owing to my off-tangent veiws of igbo women, in order not to spoil a good thread. But i'm impressed with the above quote. Our cultural values were meant to protect us. Its so unfortunate they are being lost faster than Bolt could finish a 100 m race. |
This thread is baseless. Are these the only 2 nationalities we have in Nigeria? What about Hausa girls or the remaining 150 or thereabout ethnicities. What's up with this Ibo/yoruba topics madness? Whoever you want to marry is your cup of tea and your personal wahala. I think its time the mods need to delete these kinds of pointless Ibo/yoruba topics. You may be surprised that the OP is an ebira trying to pitch these 2 group against each other. So this topic should be ignored ![]() |
