A man had to go to hospital after becoming blind in one eye when he orgasmed too hard during sex, research has revealed.
According to a paper in the British Medical Journal the ‘29-year-old man presented to the emergency eye clinic reporting an obstruction in the central vision of his left eye, which he had noticed on waking that morning’.
Doctors guessed that the man performed a Valsalva maneuveur, in other words the tensing of abdominal muscles, straining and holding your breath, in which air is forced against a closed windpipe and pressure increases in the chest.
This pressure resulted in the popping of blood vessel in the eye of the unfortunate man after an episode of 'vigorous sexual intercourse', doctors concluded after speaking to him, the study said.
‘The diagnosis was unclear and the patient was asked to return for follow-up three days later.
‘At this visit, he saw a different clinician who asked direct questions about the patient's sexual activity.
‘The patient then reported an episode of vigorous sexual intercourse on the evening preceding the onset of symptoms.
‘This directed history led to the diagnosis of postcoital valsalva retinopathy. Valsalva retinopathy is managed conservatively and is a self-resolving condition with an excellent prognosis.’
Haematologists have also found Valsalva manoeuvre can also produce memory loss.
The intense pressure in the brain's blood vessels resulted in temporary lack of blood flow to the central part of the brain, which in turn, resulted in amnesia, a 1998 study found.
The Valsalva manoeuvre is thought to cause global amnesia in one person in 10,000 and in one reported case, the manoeuvre lead to a ruptured blood vessel in a patient's neck.

A 26-year-old Oklahoma woman has been given 10 years of probation this week after admitting she had a sexual relationship with her 44-year-old mother that even led to marriage.
Misty Velvet Dawn Spann, 26, pleaded guilty to incest in Stephens County, Oklahoma, on Tuesday after the illicit affair was uncovered.

Her mother, Patricia Ann Spann, 44, lost custody of her daughter and two sons when they were kids. They were then adopted and raised by their paternal grandmother.

She reunited with Misty in 2014 and says the two of them 'hit it off' and started talking about adopting a child together.

They married in March 2016, after Patricia convinced her daughter that they weren't violating the law by being together.

But indeed they were, and just a few months later, in September 2016, the two were charged with incest after a DHS child welfare worker discovered the relationship.

In Oklahoma, incest is a felony crime punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

Misty decided to take a plea deal, admitting to the relationship in exchange for a lighter sentence.

In addition to spending 10 years on probation, the judge also ordered her to undergo counseling and pay various court fees.

Patricia has pleaded not guilty to the charge, but has not yet appeared in court yet.

Her case has been delayed to February so that she could undergo surgery.

What's perhaps most shocking of all is that this isn't the first time Patricia has been caught in a romantic relationship with one of her children.

She also married one of her sons, Jody Calvin Spann, in 2008.

 
KSWO reports that Patricia told investigators her relationship with her son was not sexual and she married him to prevent him being deployed to the military.

That marriage was annulled two years later by the son, on the basis that it was incestuous.

Patricia and Misty's marriage was also annulled last month at the behest of Misty, who said she was induced 'by fraud to enter the marriage'.

She says she only consented to getting married after her mother convinced her it was legally OK, saying she consulted three attorneys.

Patricia says she actually did the research herself, and thought that it would be OK since she no longer has the same name as what was printed on Misty's birth certificate.

Misty and Jody's brother Cody Spann told KSWO that his mother manipulated both his sister and brother into marriage.

'I think she's worthless she put my sister into this. She forced my sister into this, there's a lot of people that know it,' he said.

'For you to want to put your own daughter through this, what kind of person are you? If that's what you want that's on you, but none of us kids want that, and now you got my sister behind bars because of your choices, why don't you let that sit on you as a mom.'

Russian President Vladimir Putin, a dog lover, received a top breed puppy as a belated birthday gift on Wednesday from Turkmenistan’s president who is keen to recover lost Russian markets for Turkmen gas.

“We have a common friend - this is the world’s unique alabai dog. And today I brought this little alabai with me,” President Kurbanguly Berdymukhamedov said before talks with Putin, pulling the pup out from a portable cage and holding it up by the scruff of its neck.

Putin, who marked his 65th birthday on Oct. 7, took the puppy, called Verny which means “faithful” in Russian, and kissed it in its forehead.

The alabai is a home-bred Turkmen variety of the Central Asian shepherd dog. Along with the handmade carpets and the ancient Akhal Teke breed of race horses, it is officially listed as part of Turkmenistan’s national heritage.

Plush and cuddly when they are young, alabai dogs grow into fierce shepherd dogs, fearless in warding off wolves but also in dealing with human strangers.

Berdymukhamedov, a flamboyant former dentist whose interests range from sport cars to noble horses, enjoys a personality cult and autocratic powers in his desert nation which sits on the world’s fourth-largest natural gas reserves.

The two men held talks at the Black Sea resort of Sochi, on the sidelines of a summit of ex-Soviet states, with the Turkmen side keen to see a possible resumption of natural gas exports to Russia.

 
Russia, once the main buyer of Turkmen gas, stopped buying the fuel last year due to a price dispute. China, with its growing appetite for energy, is now the main market for Turkmen gas.

Some other foreign leaders including those of Japan and Bulgaria have also given Putin puppies of rare breeds as gifts.
