Special trucks are pictured above escorting the couple's yellow Jeep out of the forest. Then just 30 minutes later a search party of snow mobiles and trucks arrived. People heard the couple was missing in the area and wondered if they should go search for them. When they heard a public plea, they headed out on snowmobiles. They searched for four hours combing through over 20 miles in the forest on Monday and found another group looking for the couple. Soon afterwards, they found Maia and Carlos and their snow-blanketed car. Safe and sound! The Glenn County Sheriff's Office shared this picture after the duo were rescued

A young couple has been miraculously rescued after they were stranded in a snow-covered California forest for five days. Maia Herman-Kitami and Carlos Hernandez, from San Francisco, went snow camping on January 30 at Mendocino National Forest. The following day they tried to venture further into the forest but their Jeep got stuck in the mounting piles of snow. The duo tried to dig out their car from the snowbank for hours, but to no avail. 'As we reversed, the car got stuck,' Maia said. The couple survived by huddling in their car, rationing food, and drinking melted ice. They had no cellphone service, so huddled in their car for warmth in the freezing temperatures, drank melted snow, made a makeshift sign for help on a fast food bag, and relentlessly honked the car horn for help.

The pair of determined surfers in Michigan didn't let sub-zero temperatures prevent them from practicing their sport as they were photographed cruising Lake Superior during the polar vortex last week.

If there’s a wave, there’s a surfer. Even when the polar vortex is turning the whole country into an ice cube. While most were spending the end of January rocking 17 layers of clothing in front of their fireplaces, Daniel Schetter (also known as “Surfer Dan”) wasn’t taking a day off. It was business as usual for the local legend from Marquette County, Michigan, and luckily photographer Devon Hains was there to capture it. “The photos were shot two days last week, Sunday, January 27 and Wednesday, January 30th,” Hains told Bored Panda. “The photos feature both Surfer Dan and Allen Finau. They were shot at Presque Isle Park in Marquette Michigan on Lake Superior. The temperature for the Sunday shoot got down to -30 degrees Fahrenheit (-34°C) with the windchill.” https://www.boredpanda.com/winter-surfing-polar-vortex-devon-hains-photography-lake-superior-michigan/ cc: revontuli
