Prince Philip has been involved in a car crash close to the Sandringham Estate, but is unhurt, says Buckingham Palace.

A barrister has told how he pulled the Duke of Edinburgh from the wreckage of his Land Rover as he shouted 'My legs! Where should I put my legs?' after crashing into a Kia carrying two women and a baby.


Roy Warne said Prince Philip, 97, told police he had been 'dazzled by the sun' at a T-junction before the collision near his Sandringham Estate in Norfolk.

Philip's Land Rover was heading onto the A149 out of a private estate road leading from Sandringham House when he was 'dazzled by winter sunshine' and struck by the Kia, which was going south.

The impact on Philip's driver's side slipped the car on to the passenger's side before is spun over and slid across the single carriageway.

After reaching the far edge, it then flipped again 180 degrees onto the driver's side before coming to a halt.

Mr Warne and other drivers quickly ran to help and were joined by emergency service personnel who helped pull the Duke through the sunroof.

A villager who asked not to be named said: 'It is an extremely busy road and it is a miracle that he was not hit by another car as well.

A strange-looking disk of ice is creating a stir in a Maine city.

The naturally occurring disk formed over the weekend in Westbrook, Maine on the Presumpscot River, drawing curious onlookers to investigate the strange sight.

The disk spinning counter-clockwise on the Presumpscot River is an estimated 100 yards in diameter.





HOW DO ICE DISCS OCCUR?

Ice disks, also known as ice circles, have been known to appear in the Arctic, Scandinavia and Canada.

They occur at bends in the river where the accelerating water creates a force called 'rotational shear', which breaks off a chunk of ice and twists it around.

As the disc rotates, it grinds against surrounding ice - smoothing into a perfect circle.

According to published reports, the largest ice disk recorded was a 160-foot diameter circle in Sweden's Pite River in 1987.

It will also have the strength and power to carry more cargo than the average helicopters, but Lockheed is not giving all of its secrets away it has yet to release the range and payload capacity.

Frank P. Conway, Sikorsky's experimental test pilot for both the SB1 and the V-22 Osprey tiltrotor, when the concept was first unveiled.

He called the Defiant 'a very hot, sexy aircraft.'
