Searchers trying to reach a dozen boys and their soccer coach in a flooded cave complex used huge pumps to reduce the water level, allowing divers to place guide ropes and air tanks along the route, officials said Sunday. Given how long the boys and their coach have been missing, the odds of finding them alive seemed to be growing thin. But the governor of Chiang Rai Province, Narongsak Osottanakorn, who is overseeing the search-and-rescue operation, expressed hope that Thai Navy SEAL divers could soon reach the cavern where the group is believed to be. Tham Luang Cave, a popular destination for cave explorers, is well known for flooding during the rainy season, which generally runs from July to November. The boys and their coach entered the cave system on June 23, shortly before a heavy rainstorm began. Rising floodwaters trapped them several miles inside. The ensuing search-and-rescue operation, involving hundreds of people from some 20 government agencies and half a dozen nations, has captivated Thailand, with people across the country, including the king, following the developments. The United States sent a team of 17 Air Force rescue specialists based on the Japanese island of Okinawa to aid in the search, along with additional support staff. Groups from Australia, Britain, China, Laos and Myanmar are also assisting in the operation, as are several Thai companies, including the country’s biggest oil and gas exploration firm. Rescuers from China and Australia have joined the search for a youth soccer team missing in a Thai cave, as divers believe they're closing in on the spot where the group could be sheltering. The international rescue operation which includes more than 1,000 people from Thai emergency services, alongside a US military contingent and British cave experts has been ramping up its efforts since the 12 boys and their 25-year-old soccer coach disappeared during an outing in the caves in northern Thailand on June 23. Divers are now closing in on elevated dry area, called Pattaya Beach, where they believe the missing boys may have taken refuge in the Tham Luang Nang Non cave system. In Florida, it is legal to kill iguanas but it must be done in a humane manner. Stabbing them in the brain or decapitating them are said to be other methods of humane killing. She said: 'I hope to encourage any of my Floridian friends to take the time to clean and eat these lizards. I promise, they are delicious!!!!!!!' Peters sauteed the iguana's meat with onions and chives before using it all in aburrito with avocado, sour cream and salsa

A Minneapolis woman living in Florida is no stranger when it comes to hunting iguanas, choosing them as her ideal source of protein. Brittany Peters, a resident of South Florida, has found a suitable way to tackle the invasive species and save a few bucks on groceries. 'I like to promote eating what you harvest and know a lot of people kill iguanas since they are a nuisance, and I wanted to cook and eat them hoping to encourage those who kill them to also eat them,' she said. Many refer to iguanas as the 'chicken of the trees' as they are said to have a taste similar to the popular poultry. Iguanas offer pretty lean meat, actually offering more protein than chicken. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5905521/Meet-woman-hunts-cooks-eats-IGUANAS.html

Any rescue team that attempts to search will also be swallowed. So they won't just brother or give up after 2days. |
Two theories The boys and their coach are believed to have crawled into the large series of caves through a narrow, 15-meter (50-foot) channel. A sign at the entrance to the cave, a popular tourist attraction warns of danger during the rainy season, which is just getting underway. Rescue teams are currently entertaining two theories about where the boys might be, working from the starting point where their bags were found, at a fork 3 kilometers (1.9 miles) from the mouth of the cave, deep into the underground tunnels. They could have turned left or right at this point, but Thai rescuers have been working on the assumption that they took the closest high ground, to the left heading south. UK experts now wonder if they went right, which would have taken them to the highest ground overall heading north, which is where the chimney is being explored. Divers continue to work at the mouth of the cave, and drilling is underway at several points in the cave complex, primarily to relieve the flooding. Pumps are also being used to try to dispel the water from cave tunnels, rather than provide access. Josh Morris, the founder of Chiang Mai Rock Climbing Adventures, who is familiar with the terrain, says that despite the ticking clock, there is reason to be optimistic about the group's survival. "I'm sure there is hope left. The boys are still within the first week and the boys who have been going into this cave, from what I have understood, have been in the cave many times before, so it is highly likely that they kind of knew where they were going and were able to get themselves to a safe place," He told CNN's "Connect the World."
