The luxury Honduras prison where notorious MS-13 gang members were allowed to play video games on 52-inch TVs and take advantage of a sex room have been unveiled. A transfer of hundreds of members of organised crime gangs from an overcrowded jail to a new maximum security prison has unearthed details of the pampered lifestyles they have left behind. A total of 773 gang members have been moved from a prison in Tamara, near the Honduran capital city of Tegucigalpa, to the new El Pozo 2 jail in La Tova in the western Honduran department of El Paraiso. The designer flat-like cells were kitted out with air conditioning, colour-coordinated furniture, food blenders, coffee machines and well-stocked fridge-freezers. http://punchng.com/luxurious-prison-with-air-conditioned-cells-plasma-tvs-and-sex-room/ http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/world-news/inside-luxurious-prison-inmates-enjoy-10446000 http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4518644/Inside-luxury-Honduras-prison-notorious-MS-13-gang.html Lalasticlala, Mynd44

Foot binding. Young girls in China, Centuries ago. Lalasticlala, Mynd44
|
The shoes. Foot binding also demonstrated male economic power. At a time when most Chinese people existed only a few rice bowls away from starvation, being able to keep economically unproductive women whose only practical functions due to crippled feet were decorative, sexual and reproductive, was a powerful status marker. Possession of a houseful of bound-feet women told the world, “See how wealthy I am! I can easily afford to feed all these useless mouths!”
|
Comparative western traditions would include high heels, but they are obviously less extreme. |
There are now just a few surviving elderly women who underwent the practice, and they’ve suffered from lifelong pain and disabilities as a result. The pictures showing the realities of foot-binding under the Qing dynasty, who ruled from 1644 to 1912. Once their rule was over, life in China changed dramatically, and many ancient traditions - of which foot-binding was one were consigned to history.
|
The bones would be broken and the feet mutilated. It was often carried out in winter when feet would be numb and so it would be slightly less painful, but it was of course still a highly traumatic experience. Having lotus-shaped feet was considered a sign of wealth and beauty it was only girls who were subjected to the practice though. Although foot-binding occurred across all socio-economic divisions, it was most common in wealthy families as they could afford not to work. Once a foot had been bound, it was almost impossible to undo.

Shocking images have been released that show the harsh reality of the ancient Chinese practice of foot-binding. Carried out on girls as young as four, the practice involves breaking toes to manipulate the feet into a lotus shape. Foot-binding, as it is known, was first carried out 1,000 years ago. It was normal for centuries, until being finally outlawed in 1911. It was adopted among courtesans after a Tang Dynasty emperor fell in love with a mistress who had tiny feet and wrapped them in silk when dancing. The practice became the norm amongst upper-class court performers, but it soon spread to all classes. Moulding the lotus-shaped foot involves cutting a girl’s toenails really short when she’s aged between four and nine, before tightly wrapping the foot in bandages. http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/footbinding-photos-chinese-practice-brutal-reality-images-crush-bones-a7740056.html Lalasticlala, Mynd44

Hawthorne Plaza Shopping Center, Hawthorne, California. In 1977, Hawthorne was a booming city in California located near Los Angeles, filled with middle-class citizens; which seemed to continue growing. During that time, a mall with three levels opened in the center of the city that sought out those people who would spend their paychecks. As the years went by, those same customers started seeing more and more youngsters entering the mall with saggy jeans and assumed that these teenagers were gangs that were taking over their shopping area, and had found other places to shop. In 1999, the mall was closed permanently, yet it still stands to this day. What once was a place that celebrities were performing commercials for, is now an empty shell of a building with a mere tricycle located on the bottom floor. Light is let in from the opened ceiling that appears to be more like prison bars, now that the stores have all closed.

Tinapa, calabar, Nigeria. With its futuristic film studios, luxury shops and elevated light railway, Tinapa should be a showcase of Nigerian dynamism, a commercial hub for West Africa raking in millions of dollars. Tinapa, with its 80,000 square metres (861,000 square feet) of warehouses and shops, cost $450 million (413 million euros)to build. But 10 years after it opened, the resort in south-east Nigeria is a ghost town and has become a symbol of monumental waste. http://www.therichest.com/rich-list/most-shocking/10-of-the-creepiest-abandoned-malls-in-the-world/ Lalasticlala, Mynd44

New World Mall, Bangkok. The New World Mall in Bangkok, Thailand, was built in the 1980s, but in 1997 a fire had demolished part of the building. Instead of fixing the entire mall, the owners left it alone and eventually the mall was closed because it had no roof. The eleven-story mall eventually filled with water from the rain, and two years later the entire first floor looked very similar to a fishing pond. The residents of the town were growing sick of the mosquitoes that were attracted to the water, and decided to do something about it. They started putting fish inside the building. Freshwater tilapia fish, to be exact. The Large fish swim around the escalators that are still intact, and residents have put up signs along the outside so people know not to throw anything into the water, as they don’t want to harm the creatures.

At one time, North Randall was home tothe “world’s largest shopping center.” Even the city’s seal has two shopping bags incorporated into it, to signify that exact phrase. So what exactly happened to this large shopping mall isnot precisely known; however, it is rumored that internet shopping and e-commerce most likely has a lot to do with the downfall of this mall (and probably all of the other ones, as well). What was once home to a teenager’s first job, a child enjoying their first visit with Santa or shopping for that engagement ring, is now an empty vessel of damaged walls, destroyed property and an eerie sense of whomever did those things being right around the corner.

New South China Mall, Dongguan, China. It was trumpeted as the world's largest retail mall, with shoppers able to browse through 1,500 stores, take a stroll along a mock Venetian canal or even have lunch in front of an 85ft replica of the Arc de Triomphe. But the New South China Mall, which opened in 2005, stands empty with 99 per cent of its shops having remained unleased and attractions including a 553-metre indoor and outdoor roller coaster standing idle. It was designed to attract an average of more than 70,000 visitors a day to the city of Dongguan, but has less than a dozen shops in its 9.6million sq ft of floor space.

CYCLOPIA. Cyclopia is a rare congenital disorder that occurs in both humans and animals. The front lobe of the embryo's brain does not develop properly into two separate left and right hemispheres. A creature with cyclopia may be able to distinguish light and dark but will not have proper vision because the retina won't form properly. Creatures with the condition are normally stillborn or die shortly after due to breathing and brain problems. Its incidence is 1 in 16,000 in born animals and 1 in 200 in miscarried fetuses. It is caused by genetic defects or toxins ingested during pregnancy such as 2-deoxyjervine, found in the corn lily plant. It gets its name from the Greek word cyclops which literally means round-eyed. Vets predicted that the blind goat, who also has only one ear, would die within a few days but he has defied expectations

Cyclopes are normally considered the stuff of legend, made famous by Ancient Greek poet Homer in his immortal epic The Odyssey. But they exist on Earth and one has just been born in Assam, India. This baby goat with one enlarged eye has baffled local villagers after its birth on 10 May. The goat has a condition called cyclopia which develops in the womb when the left and right hemispheres of the brain do not separate as they are meant to early on in pregnancy. This leads to the formation of a single central cavity with one eye, or sometimes partially fused or separate eyeballs. The eyelashes and eyelids are absent, as is any true nose. The upper and lower lips are present, but are usually small, and the upper jaw is short and teeth are missing, which is why the normal sized tongue protrudes. The condition has been reported in other animals, including horses, pigs, cows, cats and even dusky sharks. A large number of people have been visiting the village to see the goat. According to the villagers, the goat is said to be sacred, with some locals beginning to worship the new arrival. The goat's owner, Mukhuri Das said: 'I was shocked. It's like a miracle and people have been coming to our place to see this baby goat. 'The owner immediately called vets to check on his new arrival. He said: 'They told me it will die in a few days but that was not true.' https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/3583516/one-eyed-mutant-goat-born-in-india-baffling-villagers-who-are-terrified-of-the-cyclops-like-beast/?_e_pi_=7%2CPAGE_ID10%2C5521201077 http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4514288/Holy-goat-India-s-miracle-CYCLOPS-kid.html Lalasticlala, Mynd44

Journalists gather in front of the gate of Akasaka Estate where the residence of Prince Akishino is located in Tokyo after the news that the prince's daughter is getting married to an ocean lover was reported Tuesday, May 16, 2017.

Japan's Prince Hisahito (centre, front), wearing a traditional ceremonial attire, is accompanied by his parents, Prince Akishino, Princess Kiko, his sisters Princess Mako, left, and Princess Kako, right, after attending 'Chakko-no-gi' ceremony to celebrate his growth and the passage from infancy to childhood, at the Akasaka imperial estate in Tokyo.

A Japanese princess will give up her royal status when she marries a beach tourism worker she met in a restaurant. Princess Mako, the granddaughter of Japan's emperor, is getting married to ocean lover Kei Komuro who can ski, play the violin and cook, it has been claimed. The man who won the princess' heart, was a fellow student at International Christian University in Tokyo, where Princess Mako, 25, also graduated. Once they say 'I do', she will lose her status - despite being Emperor Akihito's granddaughter - as Japanese tradition dictates and become a commoner. They met at a restaurant in Tokyo's Shibuya about five years ago at a party to talk about studying abroad, and have been seeing more of each other in recent months. Komuro has worked as 'Prince of the Sea' to promote tourism to the beaches of Shonan in Kanagawa prefecture, a report on public broadcaster NHK said. Women can't succeed to the Chrysanthemum Throne in Japan. Mako's father and her younger brother are in line to succeed Emperor Akihito. Once she marries, Mako will no longer be a princess and will become a commoner. But the process building up to the wedding is likely to take some time and be full of ritual, as Japanese nuptials, especially royal ones, tend to be. First there will be an announcement, the equivalent of an engagement, and then a date for the wedding will be picked when the couple will make a formal report to the emperor and empress. NHK said Mako has already introduced Komuro to her parents, and they approve. Unlike royalty in Great Britain and other European countries, the emperor and his family tend to kept away from the public eye, although they travel abroad and appear at cultural events. Therefore, little is known of the princess other than she was a student at the International Christian University (ICU) in Tokyo in April 2010. In doing so, she became the first member of the Japanese imperial family to attend university, according to Mainichi. As part of her arts and cultural property studies, she attended the University of Edinburgh in Scotland on an exchange. Having finished at ICU, Princess Make returned to Britain where she gained a masters in art museum and gallery studies from the University of Leicester in January 2016. She is currently working as an affiliate researcher the University Museum of the University of Tokyo whilst combining a doctorate programme at ICU. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4510700/Japans-Princess-Mako-married-report-says.html
