Sports / Chelsea Wins 2024 English Women's Super League (Man United 0 Chelsea 6) by expressglory: 6:28pm On May 18
An emphatic 6-0 victory at Manchester United TODAY the final day of the season meant they beat Manchester City to the crown on goal difference.

Hayes, 47, signed off her reign with a seventh WSL title after 12 years as Chelsea manager.

"I can't say it's my most enjoyable but it's definitely been the toughest, without doubt, and for that reason probably the sweetest," she told Sky Sports.

"I'm just so relieved it's over."

Hayes will become manager of the United States women's team before this summer's Olympic Games in Paris.

In addition to her seven league titles with Chelsea, she has won five FA Cups, two League Cups and a Community Shield during her Blues career.

Reflecting on her time at Chelsea, Hayes added: "Great memories, listening to the fans, the connection with the players. I just haven't got any more to give - I know that.

"The hardest thing to do is five in a row because people take their eye off the ball. My legacy is winning while building a team for the future."

'We've got the monster mentality'
Captain Millie Bright has been with Chelsea for all seven of their titles under Hayes, and the England defender says their latest trophy shows why they should not be underestimated.

"It was pretty special but when half the country writes you off - we've got the monster mentality, we've shown it season after season," she told Sky Sports.

"We were given a second chance. They don't often but you have to take them and we did. We beat Bristol City, beat Tottenham and we've come here and put on a five-star performance to take this title.

"It's extra special to get it for Emma [Hayes] and the players who are leaving us.

"We were up against a tough opponent and we needed a 10-out-of-10 performance. Every player was incredible.

"That's our standards. We shouldn't be underestimated to make this sort of comeback because we're defending champions."

Romance / Do Christians Celebrate Valentine's Day? by expressglory: 9:29am On Feb 14
Valentine's Day is celebrated worldwide with great fervor, showcasing love and affection between partners. But a question arises - do Christians celebrate Valentine's Day? Is it a part of their religious beliefs or just a cultural phenomenon? To answer this question, we will delve into the historical background of Valentine's Day, the Christian perspective on love, the controversy surrounding the day, and how some Christian communities embrace the occasion.

Historical Background of Valentine's Day

The history of Valentine's Day can be traced back to the Roman festival of Lupercalia, a celebration which initially bore no connection to love or affection. This ancient festival was later transformed and Christianized in memory of a renowned Christian figure, St. Valentine of Rome. The historical narratives suggest that St. Valentine was martyred on February 14 for defying a Roman decree and performing marriage ceremonies for soldiers who were forbidden to wed. This act of defiance made him a symbol of love and commitment, thus his commemoration eventually became synonymous with expressing love.

With the passing of centuries, the day evolved and took on new meaning. It no longer remained confined to honoring St. Valentine, but expanded to celebrating love and affection in a broader sense. Today, the day is not only about expressing romantic love, but it also includes showing love and appreciation to friends and family members.

While the roots of this day have a connection to a pagan festival, the link between Valentine's Day and Christianity is evident through its naming. The day is named after a Christian martyr, thus giving it a significant place within the Christian faith. This historical background provides a nuanced understanding of why Valentine's Day might hold a place of relevance in Christian culture, despite its controversial origins.

The Christian Perspective on Love and Valentine's Day

The cornerstone of Christianity is love - the profound love of God for humankind and the mandate for followers of the faith to love each other. This idea of love intertwines perfectly with the essence of Valentine's Day. Nevertheless, it's necessary to distinguish that the romantic or erotic love observed on Valentine's Day is merely one facet of love from a Christian viewpoint. Christianity identifies multiple forms of love, with Agape, the divine or unconditional love, reigning supreme, followed by philia, the love of friendship or brotherhood, and storge, the affectionate love within families. Eros, symbolizing romantic love, is recognized but does not take precedence. So, for many Christians, Valentine's Day can be seen as an occasion to exhibit these different forms of love, not just the romantic aspect.

Controversy Surrounding Valentine's Day among Christians

While Valentine's Day is embraced by many Christians, it's important to acknowledge that it's a topic of debate within certain segments of the community. There's a faction that holds reservations, primarily due to the day's association with the pagan festival of Lupercalia. Such individuals often express concern that Valentine's Day has strayed from its original purpose - the commemoration of a Christian martyr - and has instead become an overly commercialized event dominated by retail and market forces.

There's also an argument regarding the interpretation of love celebrated on this day. Some Christians feel uneasy with the day's emphasis on erotic love, as it can overshadow the various other forms of love recognized by Christianity, like Agape, philia, and storge. They also express concern about the societal pressure that often accompanies Valentine's Day, where lavish gestures of love are expected and can often lead to feelings of inadequacy or dissatisfaction.

The combination of these issues has led some individuals within the Christian community to distance themselves from the traditional Valentine's Day observances. While they appreciate the essence of love that the day symbolizes, they opt to express it in ways that align more closely with their interpretation of Christian teachings and values. Despite the historical connection to St. Valentine and the potential for the day to serve as a celebration of Christian love in its many forms, these controversies leave some Christians choosing not to partake in the customary Valentine's Day celebrations.

Ways Some Christians Celebrate Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day is seen by numerous Christians as a chance to display their love in various ways, which may differ from the conventional societal norms. Let's delve into a few of these approaches:

1. Honoring Divine Love: Valentine's Day can be transformed into a day of spiritual reflection and celebration for some Christians, using the occasion to honor and meditate upon the boundless love that God holds for humanity.

2. Recognizing Love Beyond Romance: The day is often used to express gratitude and affection towards friends and family. By acknowledging the diverse forms of love recognized by Christianity, they expand the day's meaning beyond just romantic love.

3. Charitable Acts: Upholding the Christian belief of loving one's neighbor, a number of Christians choose to commit acts of charity on Valentine's Day. This could involve volunteering at a local shelter, making donations to charitable organizations, or simply helping someone in need.

4. Celebrating Romantic Love Respectfully: For Christian couples, Valentine's Day can be a platform to express their romantic love in a manner that aligns with their faith. This could involve intimate, heartfelt gestures that underscore the dignity and sacredness of their relationship.

In essence, Christians have found varied and unique ways to celebrate Valentine's Day, keeping their faith and values at the heart of their celebrations. These expressions of love not only stay true to their Christian beliefs but also add a deeper meaning to the occasion, making it a more inclusive and enriching experience.

The Significance of Valentine's Day for Christian Couples

For couples who follow the Christian faith, Valentine's Day carries a unique significance. It becomes an opportunity to not only express their love and commitment towards one another but also to reflect on the love they share in their relationship with God. The day serves as a reminder of their spiritual bond, strengthening the tie that unites them not just as partners, but as fellow believers. It allows them to appreciate and respect each other, demonstrating commitment and dedication, which are key elements in a Christian relationship.

Valentine's Day also offers Christian couples a chance to reflect on the Biblical teaching that love originates from God. They can use this day to renew their understanding of love as a divine gift, given to human beings to share and express in their lives. This reminder can help them keep their relationship grounded in faith, upholding the values of mutual respect, selfless love, and commitment, which are hallmarks of a Christian relationship.

In essence, for Christian couples, Valentine's Day can be much more than a celebration of romantic love. It is a day that carries spiritual resonance, allowing them to celebrate their love within the context of their faith. The day can serve as a reminder to honor their shared faith, their mutual commitment, and above all, the divine origin of their love.

Valentine’s Day is typically celebrated by couples, but it doesn’t mean Christian singles can’t partake in this day of love. There are many meaningful ways to mark this occasion without feeling lonely or left out. Here are 17 ideas on how to have a memorable Valentine’s Day celebration as a single Christian, fully embracing love in all its forms.

Celebrate God’s Love
Kick-start your Valentine’s Day by honoring the greatest love there is, the love of God. Spend time meditating on His unwavering, boundless love for you. You might want to play some uplifting worship songs, pen down a heartfelt thank you note to God, or simply enjoy quiet moments basking in His divine presence.

Share Love with Others
Love isn’t solely for romantic relationships. Use this day to express your affection to those who’ve played significant roles in your life, such as friends, family members, and co-workers. A simple act of kindness, a phone call, or a heartwarming message can make their day special. As you spread love to those around you, you’ll find your own heart filled with joy and contentment.

Have a Self-Love Day
This Valentine’s Day, dedicate time to nourish and appreciate yourself. Engage in activities that you enjoy and bring you peace. This could mean treating yourself to a spa day, embarking on a hike, or unwinding with a captivating book. Using this day to prioritize your well-being is a wholesome approach to celebrating.

Send Love Notes

In an age of digital messages, go old school by penning heartfelt letters to people who’ve positively influenced your life. Tell them what they mean to you, and how much you appreciate them. This simple act can deeply touch hearts, making both the receiver and the giver feel special on Valentine’s Day.

Have a Friend Gathering
Why not arrange a get-together with your single Christian friends? Whether it’s a cozy movie marathon, a potluck feast, or a spirited game night, spending Valentine’s Day in the company of close friends can bring laughter and shared joy. Not only does this foster stronger bonds, but it also creates new, cherished memories.

Dive into God’s Word
Immerse yourself in the Bible, focusing particularly on passages that elucidate love. As you delve into these scriptural teachings, allow them to deepen your grasp of God’s enduring affection. Exploring these powerful verses can bring a new perspective to love, rooted in divine wisdom.

Pray for Your Future Spouse
During your Valentine’s Day devotions, dedicate a prayer for your future spouse. Entrust them to God’s guidance, praying for their spiritual growth, strength, and wisdom. As you do this, articulate your confidence in God’s impeccable timing for bringing you both together. This prayerful act not only reinforces your faith but also fosters a sense of connectedness to your future partner.

Join a Valentine’s Day celebration at Church
Participate in any Valentine’s Day events hosted by your church community. These activities often foster camaraderie, providing a warm environment for you to celebrate love collectively. Whether it’s a service dedicated to God’s love or a social gathering with fellow Christian singles, make sure to immerse yourself in the spirit of love and unity this Valentine’s Day.

Attend a Singles Event
Look into local events tailored for singles on Valentine’s Day. This could be a fantastic chance to expand your social circle, engaging with others who share your faith. It’s a vibrant platform to cultivate meaningful connections that could potentially lead to lifelong friendships or a blossoming romance. Be open, and enjoy the camaraderie.

Host a Dinner for Other Singles
Take the initiative to gather fellow Christian singles for a communal meal. This can be an intimate dinner at your home or a larger potluck-style gathering at a local venue. This provides an opportunity to engage in uplifting conversations, share laughs, and experience the joy of fellowship. Your hospitality can create a welcoming space for others who might otherwise feel lonely on Valentine’s Day.

Give Gifts to Those in Need

Extend the warmth of Valentine’s Day by reaching out to those less privileged. Consider making a donation to a charity that resonates with your heart or volunteer your time at a local shelter. Your thoughtful actions will not only bring joy to those in need but also serve as a tangible representation of God’s love in action.

Spread Love on Social Media
Utilize your digital platforms this Valentine’s Day to disseminate messages of love and optimism. Post uplifting quotes, scripture verses related to love, or share your personal experiences of God’s love in your journey. Your posts could inspire or comfort someone, and this small act can contribute to a more positive online community.

Do Something New
Embrace the spirit of adventure this Valentine’s Day by exploring something unfamiliar. It could be a hobby you’ve been curious about, a local landmark you’ve never visited, or a new skill you’ve been wanting to acquire. This exciting detour not only broadens your horizons but also adds an element of freshness to your Valentine’s Day celebrations.

Spend Quality Time with Family
Cherish the gift of family this Valentine’s Day. Plan activities that foster togetherness, such as a home-cooked meal, a lively board game, or an enjoyable outing in your city. The shared laughter, memories, and genuine connection serve as beautiful reminders of the love that exists within your family unit.

Reflect on the Past Year
On Valentine’s Day, set aside some quiet time to review your journey in the past year. Acknowledge the growth you’ve undergone, the challenges you’ve surmounted, and the blessings you’ve gratefully received. This introspective process not only promotes gratitude but also reinforces your resilience as a single Christian navigating life’s path.

Make a Love Jar
Craft a love jar this Valentine’s Day. This can be filled with slips of paper that list qualities you love about yourself, your favorite affirmations, or beloved Bible verses. Whenever you need a moment of self-love or spiritual encouragement, simply draw a note from the jar. It’s a creative way to remind yourself of your worth and the divine love that God has for you.

Trust God’s Timing
As you wind down on Valentine’s Day, strengthen your resolve to put your faith in God’s perfect timing. Your journey is distinctly yours and God has a divine plan in store for you. Continue to foster patience, engage in prayer, and have faith in His plan. Even in the realm of love and relationships, remember that God’s timing always has your best interests at heart.

Celebrities / Special Interview With Pastor Tope Fasakin In London by expressglory: 2:07am On Sep 09, 2022
Pastor Tope Fasakin is the founding pastor of Light Assembly London. He is a dynamic teacher of God’s word with strong pastoral grace.

QUESTION 1
• Sir, can we meet you.
Thank you very much for having me. My name is Temitope Fasakin. I was born over 40 years ago. I grew up and had my education in Nigeria. I relocated to the United Kingdom after my NYSC programme. I'm the second son of my parents. My parents had 4 of us. All boys... today we are all grown up men. I am a Pastor and I also have other business interests. I'm married to my wife, who is also a Pastor and an astute business woman as well. We are blessed with 3 children;2 daughters and a son. We reside in England.

QUESTION 2
• When did you start your ministry and how is everything going now?
Well thank you for that question. When did we start our ministry? Light Assembly started in 2018. That’s the church arm of the ministry. Virtually, we’ve actually been in the ministry much earlier than that. As a matter of fact, the Lord gave me an early start. I have been preaching since the early part of my teen years. I started preaching as early as thirteen, I gave my life to Christ early in life and the Lord has used fathers of faith to raise me up in different stages of my life and in ministry. Light Assembly started in 2018 as I have said earlier but before then we were actually pastoring our former denomination. I was in that denomination for almost ten years in the UK. I joined the denomination since I first got to the UK, after fellowshipping and serving God there for about a decade, the Lord called us to start Light Assembly. I informed our general overseer and spoke with him about my calling, and he graciously and prayed for us and then released us in 2017 to obey God's call and in 2018, Light Assembly started.

Yeah, to the second part of the question, how is the ministry going now? The ministry is doing great, glory to God. You know the bible says “in the end the vision will speak” that scripture is very true because I remembered when we started. It was challenging, especially coming from an established church, you know you’ve got helping hands, you’ve got pastors, you’ve got people and then you leave that and basically you now have to start from the scratch. I mean starting with your wife and family, you know starting from the scratch like that can be very challenging and discouraging. Though, there was no funds from anyone when we started, it was right from the scratch, we felt tired, weak, discouraged at some point but God stood for us because the vision is His and not ours. Despite all challenges, we still look back and give glory to God not for other good things that has been added to our lives only but for the number of lives that have been saved and positively impacted in this ministry. Also, for those that received God's healing, deliverance, freedom, different miracles, the testimonies of changed life, of breakthrough, for lives that were transformed for Christ, myself and my wife always return all glory to the almighty God.

QUESTION 3
• We learnt of an ugly situation involving a calculated blackmail, targeted at your personality few years ago. Can you brief us on the matter and situation of things now?
Not a doubt an ugly situation and indeed it was a highly calculated blackmail directed at myself and my wife, but God gave us victory. You know, whenever I get to talk about it , the event becomes very fresh in my memory. It is only God that can sustain a person through a situation of that magnitude. Of course, I remember when that news broke that a woman accused I and my wife of duping her, we received different calls from all over the world, I mean all over the world. And the first set of call, the question people were asking then was; is this woman alright? Is she crazy? Or is she mad? Do you really know this woman? And that is the difficult part because you can’t say you don’t know her because this is a woman we know.
I mean myself, my wife, this is someone we know, and we can’t just say we don’t know her. I mean if it is a stranger that just wake up one morning and start saying things about you, you can easily ignore. You can easily say you don’t know that person. But for someone you know to start blackmailing you because of what never hapened...its highly incomprehensible. It is even more difficult when you know that you have something to do with her, so you can’t just say you don’t know her so it is very difficult.

A lot of lies were told and it’s unfortunate that one of the easiest way to get hated by the community in this time and age is to be a pastor and once anything is said about a pastor, people will not even wait to verify. They will just jump into conclusion, Oh Pastor! It is very wrong and it is just so sad but unfortunately that is the spirit of this age.
Actually this is what happened:I will just try to summarize it right? The woman made an audio recording and she did a write up and of course everything went viral. A lot of lies were told… for instance she made mention that we duped her... that as a blatant lie. Again she mention that she paid her tithe into the church account, that was the former church, the denominational church I was pastoring before and that nothing was found in the account, that also was a total lie. Now this was what actually happened.

She approached us because as at that time she was planning to relocate to Nigeria based on what she told us and that she wanted to buy a property. I don’t live in Nigeria, I live here in the UK and she said she wanted us to help her. So what we did was that we just linked her up with somebody that I know, in fact the person we link her to was visiting with us in England and they are even from the same town, so you know we just linked them up. And that was the person that helped her buy the properties. The properties were bought in her own name. In fact before they made that recording and all of that, she has already started the renovation of the house and was already living in the house, yet she came out to say there was no house. I don’t know how people can be so heartless. I don’t know the right words to use, maybe you will borrow me words. I don’t know people can be so callous to concoct lies of such magnitude. It's just unbelievable you know.

She also said she wanted things that can be bringing money for her inform of investment and all of that. And this was her coming to us to ask us for all these things. And all we did was to direct her, you know sending her to people, that was actually what happened. Later she said she wasn’t interested in the case of the investment and all of that. And of course in things like that there are processes and procedures, you cant just come out of an investment anytime you want! And that was when she now started getting impatient with the company and she feels the best person to drag will be me because we were the one that directed her to the company. To now make her story sell, she added all manner of stuff, chewing a lot of stuff and people brought into it and at that time we were so much under pressure. When we explained our own part of the story to people that are close to us, they were like go online as well and tell your own side of the story and all of that because everything was online.
But we now decided at that point to institute a legal action against her and our lawyer said we shouldn’t join her on the social media rant that it is going to become even messier you know. So we took the legal actions against her and that was when the whole thing started dying down.Later our former general overseer instituted a committee to look into the whole thing and the whole thing was properly investigated and we were vindicated. So we really thank God because God gave us victory over that matter but it was such an unpleasant experience.

QUESTON 4
• Where is the woman who attempted to blackmail you now?
That’s a one million dollar question. Where is the woman now? Well I don’t know where the woman is. To be honest, In fact since the matter was sorted and laid to rest about two years ago or three, I haven’t set my eyes on her I don’t know where she is. One or two people from her side had tried to contact us, even early this year someone called to say she wanted to come and apologize and all of that but we’ve not heard anything from her and I don’t know where she is.

QUESTION 5
• If you find yourself in a similar position to assist someone knowing they can turn against you later, what will you do?
That’s an interesting question, perhaps the most interesting or most important question you’ve ask me. If I find myself in a similar situation, what will I do? Well there are numbers of things I will do differently absolutely. Because when you look back and discover that you know someone, you just have to do things in a certain way. I and my wife learnt a great deal from that great incident. You know sometimes the Devil will do some things to want to bring you down and destroy you but God is an expert in using whatever the enemy throws at us to make us a better person. If I find myself in a similar situation now, I will be more careful, more sensitive, more discerning. You know most of the things I do now as far as business is concern, right from the start I will involve the lawyer which we’ve always done to be very honest but because we weren’t the one that deal directly with her remember? All we did was sign post her, even now I don’t sign post again. That’s why I said if I find myself in similar situation and I have to sign post; it will be done a particular manner. You should learn, because if you don’t learn you are bound to repeat that kind of mistake again. But if one is not careful, its possible to allow the bitterness and the pain to hinder you from helping people who now need your help genuinely. What I am saying is even in helping people we need to be discerning, we need to be wise, we need to be smart, and open our eyes. Saints can become devils overnight, therefore never do things without proper documentations.
I will want to state however that we should not because of our past experience stop helping people. The Bible says “we should not be weary of well doing” and “do not let your good be evil spoken,” so we have to be very careful. If I find myself in a similar position to help people, as a matter of fact we have helped people. This is the truth of the matter and I say this before God between that time and now that the incident happened, we’ve helped more people than we’ve ever helped in my entire life. My wife and I we have helped much more people than we have helped prior to that time but we do it in a particular manner because we’ve learnt from that experience.

QUESTION 6
• How is the work of evangelism in the United Kingdom, considering your experiences these past few years?
That’s another interesting question. The work of evangelism in the UK. I have the privileged of being involved in the work of the ministry and evangelism back in Nigeria. Of course the major part of church planting is evangelism. The major part of ministry is evangelism whether you are doing it on the street or through any other means; I mean a lot happen now on social media, the message remains the same but the methodology differ and vary. But what I have come to understand is that the work of evangelism in the UK is very much challenging because of the society. For example, this is not to water down what is happen in Nigeria or any part of the world as far as third nation are concerned. But you will realize that the gospel in those places are mainly preached in their mainly need centers. Listen to me that type of gospel is needed, I mean if there is no water, if there is no power you are on your own, you are basically your own government. People don’t just want to get born again, their body and soul needs to be attended to as a whole, so that is also needed. However the gospel must be complete it must cater for the spirit of man cater for the soul of man, cater for the wellbeing that is the physical aspect of man but in a society where I live in the United Kingdom, people have needs don’t let us get into that, they have needs; the country cannot be compared to Nigeria or other third nations however people have need. But there are systems in place that still help and support people, so when you are teaching or when you presenting the gospel, it has to be Christ centered, the people you are preaching to needs to know that there is eternal life right? That can take care of you. These people may not see the thing, so we have to let them know that your spirit is important, your life is important, life after death is important. So there are challenges in that way and the gospel of Christ is the only power onto salvation. Another thing is that the society, the ground is different, I mean the fathers of faith in Nigeria that have labored. The atmosphere in that place is ripe, for instance, if you start anything in Nigeria, I am speak as pastor, if you are a pastor you will understand me you know? If you put anything down in Nigeria people will show up and it is not like that here. In fact the people I have been able to counsel here as far as the work of the ministry is concern and people can look at you and see what you are doing and believe that if you can do it, I can do it too. I always tell them “make sure you are called” right? Because if you are not calling in Nigeria, you can still survive very well, you can mingle with the crowd but in the United Kingdom, you need to be called right? Because it could be frustrating, the land is hard, very had. It takes the grace of God to breakthrough, to have impact into the heart of people because its modernism, you know the ideology is different. There are a lot of things that clouds the heart of people that is not making the people to welcome or receive the gospel. So the work of evangelism here in my own estimation is much more challenging than you have it in Nigeria or other third country of the world. With the grace of God people are still getting born again, people are getting saved, people are getting healed, and churches are filled. But we are still trusting God weight because when God comes down, something extra ordinary can happen. So the work of evangelism here needs higher grace, needs deeper wisdom, needs wider strategy. The message remains the same but the methodology of winning soul here is far different from what we are used to in Nigeria.

QUESTON 7
• What is the relationship between you and Reverend George Adegboye?
Oh thank you for that question. Rev. George Adegboye in Pentecostal status needs no introduction. However, to me He is a father, my spiritual father. He is one of the great apostles of our time, a prolific anointed teacher and one of his kind. Baba is a gift to the body of Christ, his knowledge ofthe Bible is wide, he quotes the bible like no other. My last ordination was as a pastor in the former church God gave me the opportunity of pastoring, that was long before Light House started, but few months ago, myself and my wife were officially ordained into office as a reverend and a full fledge Pastor respectively over the ministry God called us to although we have been doing the work and assignment God gave to us since it started. I must say, It was a great privilege and a wonderful experience to be ordained by Reverend George Adegboye, we are really blessed by God to have him carry out our ordination as an apostle in the body of Christ. Rev. George is a father like no other, I mean he is a coach, he is a mentor, he is teacher, summarily he is just a blessing to the body of Christ and I thank God who gave us access to him. We bless God for his life and I pray that the Lord will continue to keep him for us in the body of Christ to continue to be a blessing.

Politics / Endsars: Brt Bus Terminal Arsonist Remanded In Kirikiri by expressglory: 8:01am On Aug 12, 2022
An Ikeja Magistrate’s Court on Thursday ordered the remand of one Chinasa Michael,(an indigene of Anambra State) accused of setting fire to a BRT bus terminal at Oyingbo in Lagos during a protest in the year 2020 over alleged police abuses.

The defendant, 21, who is unemployed and resides at No. 21, Ilogbo St., Apapa Road, Lagos, is being tried for conspiracy, arson, and causing the breach of peace.

The magistrate, M.C. Ayinde, who refused to take the defendant’s plea, ordered that he should be remanded in Kirikiri Correctional centre until 1 September, pending legal advice.

Mrs Ayinde ordered that the case file should be duplicated and sent to the office of the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice.

The prosecution counsel, Segun Oke, told the court that the offences were committed in October 2020 at the Oyingbo BRT bus terminal, Lagos.

Mr Oke said Mr Michael and others at large set the BRT bus terminal on fire during the #EndSars protest.

The offences, he said, contravened the provisions of Sections 168, 343 and 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

Politics / 2023: 10 Reasons Why Tinubu Will Win – Pastor Adelaja by expressglory: 6:49pm On Jul 12, 2022
I was initially very hesitant to write this article. The reason being that I have too much on my plate now to deal with considering the ongoing war in Ukraine. I also didn’t want people to think that my position is informed by the fact that I’m a fellow Yoruba man as Bola Ahmed Tinubu. I intentionally wanted to be silent in this election season for this very reason, seeing how divisive tribal sentiments are in our society. But the multiple messages I get every day demanding for my position compelled me to pen down my convictions on why I see Bola Ahmed Tinubu as our next president.
These are my 10 reasons why I believe that Bola Ahmed Tinubu will emerge as the next President Of The Federal Republic Of Nigeria.

1. Tinubu is a man of vision. Can you imagine that when he was voted in as Lagos Governor he set up a think tank through which he was able to develop a 50 year vision for Lagos. No wonder Lagos is still under the leadership of his disciples till today long after Tinubu himself stopped being the governor. The reason is simple, the whole world will follow the man that knows where he is going. With the picking of Kashim Shettima as Tinubu’s running mate, it’s obvious that this election is already predetermined. As things are Shettima will deliver the Northeast, while Buhari and his governors will deliver the Northwest to APC, we know Southwest will definitely go to Tinubu. If those three geopolitical regions go the way of Tinubu/Shettima, all other political parties would only be contesting for the second and third positions. So what of a Muslim/Muslim ticket? Yes, that will really be a big issue for some Christians from the south/south and especially south/east areas of Nigeria. These are regions that don’t normally vote APC anyway, they cannot be the main factors for consideration, expediency advises that you mainly consider the opinions of your staunch supporters, those who’ll give their vote to you. The South/south and the Southeast will vote either PDP or Labour Party, even if Tinubu selects a Christian running mate. The Southwest doesn’t really care as much when it comes to religion, it’s the most tolerant zone in Nigeria in that term, so they’ll surely remain with Tinubu no matter what. The other two zones that will vote Tinubu/Shettima ticket are Northern states, they’ll rather be excited by that choice. I personally don’t believe that Tinubu who is married to a Christian Pastor for 40 years will all of a sudden become anti christian. If that could be the case we would have seen the signs in Lagos. No, we need not fear Muslim/Muslim ticket, no, not under Tinubu. At this juncture I can only say; Nigeria, behold your next President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

2. Tinubu is a raiser of men. “I look for talents that are better than me. I’m not afraid to bring on board people with higher wisdom because the most important thing to me is to get the job done for the betterment of all. I don’t wait till zero hour to discover the next person to do the job or the next job to be done, from the first hour, I find them. The second, third and fourth are as important as the first. Time waits for nobody. Even the obstacles on my way, I predict them before those that will bring them will start to think about them, I plan for betrayal, I plan for backstabbing, I also plan for reunion and forgiveness long before they happen. In life, I expect nothing, I expect anything, I expect everything.” – Bola Ahmed TinubuHere is a long retinue of leaders who have been raised by Tinubu. These people gladly call him their god father. We all know the evil of godfatherism in Nigerian politics but Tinubu is one of the only few ones who represents the positive reflection of the word. His own godfatherism is not to hold you down but to raise you up. This is the true meaning of mentorship without which no human endeavor is successful. Many blame him for it, please show me a better example not only in Nigeria, but anywhere on the continent. Guys, Tinubu is the best we have. Just take a look at all his products. His top-ranking men include Professor Yemi Osinbajo, now the Vice President, who was his attorney general and commissioner for justice. Rauf Aregbesola, the immediate past governor of Osun State, was Tinubu’s commissioner for works. Babatunde Fashola, his successor in Lagos State, was his chief of staff. He is presently a federal minister for a second term. Alhaji Lai Mohammed, who served as Tinubu’s first chief of staff, is also a federal minister for a second term. Babatunde Fowler served in Tinubu’s administration as chairman of Lagos State Internal Revenue Service from where he proceeded to become executive chairman of Federal Inland Revenue Service, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos State. Others include: Femi Gbajabiamila, present speaker, House of Reps, Akinwunmi Ambode, former governor of Lagos State, Sen. Solomon Adeola, Tunji Bello, Wale Edun, Bamidele Opeyemi, Gbenga Ashafa, Sen. Oshinowo, Sunday Dare, Minister of Sports and Youth Development, Adeleke Mamora, Minister of State for Health, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman, Nigeria Diaspora Commission, Adejoke Orelope-Adefilere, Kemi Nelson,Dele Alake, etc.
Jesus said to judge the tree by it’s fruits, I can see by Tinubu’s fruits that he is the best we have.

3. A man who survived as the Governor of a Nigerian state without the normal monthly federal government allocations to the local government administrations of the state must truly be special. We all know that even with the monthly allocations from Abuja, many states still fail to cope with their responsibilities. Some of them cannot even pay ordinary salaries to workers of their states, not to talk of development strides. This is not the case with Tinubu, when Obasanjo kept the money from Abuja from him he rather thrived thanks to some incredible ingenuity in financial management. Listen now, he not only survived, he went ahead to do something our country had not seen before or after him. He was able to increase the internal revenue generation of the state from a paltry N600 million monthly, to N51 billion today. It is said that if Lagos was a country it’ll be number five by GDP as of 2016 thanks to its 146-billion-dollar economy. As of 2016 this was bigger than the economy of Ghana, Cameroon, Kenya, Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco, Senegal, Congo etc. Lagos didn’t become this successful because it gets more money from Abuja than other states, oh no, the states with the biggest allocations are in the south-south and their people still run to Lagos to survive. Lagos didn’t become this wealthy thanks to its natural resources like oil, gas etc, no, no, go to those states that get 13% of all our nation’s wealth and you’ll see a different story. Natural and material resources don’t grow wealth, it’s visionary leadership that does. This is what Tinubu brought to Lagos, and it’s what made the difference. Nigeria needs Bola Ahmed Tinubu now like never before. Friends, this is the type of man I’ll like to see manage the affairs of our beloved country.

4. Some haters have tried to tarnish the image of Tinubu by saying he was not educated or didn’t finish university. However, a simple investigation will show you that Tinubu got a distinction from Chicago state university. The Punch of January 7, 2022 reported that Chicago State University wrote to it to confirm that Tinubu did indeed graduate from the school after two years of study there. The Richard J. Daley College, a community college in Chicago, also confirmed that he did receive an associate degree from there. In other words, he spent two years at Richard Daley College for an associate degree and another two years at Chicago State University for a bachelor’s degree. He was also an excellent student in Nigeria. But to be the head of your class in America means you are for real, you can’t buy your way through school there. Tinubu’s presidency is an idea whose time has come, there is no amount of slander or character assassination that’ll stop this moving train of Tinubu’s Presidency.

5. Many have finished school as excellent students, but have not been able to perform in the field of their calling. This is not about Tinubu, he excelled even in his professional practices. He was head hunted by some of the top American companies as one of the best products of his university. Upon graduation with honours and several awards, Bola Tinubu cut his professional teeth at the American-based Arthur Anderson, Deloitte Haskins and Sells (now called Deloitte Haskins and Touche) and GTE Service Corporation – the largest Communication and Utility Company in the United States of America.
Meanwhile, at Deloitte Haskins and Sells, the young and professional Bola broadened his experience by participating in the auditing and management consultancy services of General Motors, First National Bank of Chicago, Procter and Gamble, International Harvester, GEC and other Fortune 500 firms. Tinubu worked in American companies rising to executive positions before moving back to Nigeria to continue working for his American employers. His results in Lagos show that the man Tinubu can deliver, I don’t doubt the fact that he will make a major difference in the role of Nigeria’s President. Of course he won’t resolve all our national issues, but he is capable of paving the way for a greater Nigeria.

6. After returning to Nigeria in 1983, Bola Tinubu joined Mobil Oil Nigeria, and later became an executive of the company. Stories are still being told about the excellent leadership Tinubu brought to Mobil Oil till today. He was recognized by both Nigerian and American executives of the company not just as an excellent leader but as a revolutionary one too. If you are looking for the secret of Tinubu’s Lagos, here it lies. Some will say Lagos is this good today simply because it once was the nation’s capital, oh no! Hope my recollections of Lagos of the 90s give you the picture of how Lagos was after the capital moved to Abuja, it was a forgotten city, totally abandoned with the streets littered with corpses lying there for weeks without anyone caring to do anything about the situation until Tinubu came to the stage. Lagos was the most insecure city in Africa, the city was waking up to new 50 dead bodies in the streets with no one removing them. If you think Lagos is still nothing to write home about even today, then just go and read the news lines of those days, only then would you value the amount of work that has been done in Lagos. The Lagos ministry of health was said to be having only one ambulance bus in the whole city of millions of people. Today Lagos boasts to be one of the richest cities in Africa, it is richer than 50 out of the 55 countries in the continent. No doubt a huge part of that success must be credited to Bola Ahmed Tinubu, I’m certain he can bring about a similar radical change to the situation of Nigeria today.

7.In this presidential race especially at the primaries stage, there were many Governors and former Governors that participated, yet none of their states is known or remembered for their leadership. You can’t find any of their footprints of excellence after ruling for 4 or 8 years. You can’t say this about Tinubu, his footsteps and footprints are all over Lagos as we speak. As a matter of fact, even his opponents who were former Governors moved from their states to settle down in Lagos state. The question is why couldn’t they make their own states as good as Lagos while they were Governors there. After their leadership it’s always stories of woes and tears, banditry and kidnapping, which they quickly blame on their successors. As a matter of fact, most of the harshest critics of Tinubu are people enjoying what Tinubu built in Lagos. They never once think of acknowledging with gratitude the hard work of the man who provided them the opportunities, they couldn’t get back in their home states. If it were so easy then all other states would be as good as Lagos or even better, especially bearing in mind that no state in Nigeria is faced with such daunting challenges as Lagos faces every day. This is a clear indication that Tinubu possesses exceptional leadership qualities that Nigeria is beckoning on him to bring into the affairs of our nation at this time.

8. Many accuse Tinubu of corruption, that I cannot affirm unless the court of law finds him guilty of any crime. If the Obasanjo government that hated him with passion couldn’t convict him of corruption then I’ll not join those spreading that rumors. Remember that the most respected anti corruption advocate in Nigeria till date is Nuhu Ribadu, yet this same person said he couldn’t implicate him of any crimes even though Obasanjo gave him the task to investigate him. More so, Ribadu himself later joined the team of Tinubu calling him his mentor now. The US government came out to say Tinubu is cleared of any criminal dealings. It was published in the Vanguard of 23 February 2003. Meanwhile there is one of the presidential candidates that is being dubbed as Mr. Integrity, this same man in his own words on video admitted to have invested the state government money into his own family business, when he was the state governor. Yet Nigerians don’t see this as corruption, meanwhile in any other countries this person would be serving a jail term for such an act of corruption. It’s a clear case of conflict of interest. Our own sense of corruption in Nigeria has its own definition that’s totally different from what the rest of the world sees as corruption. May God give us insight so we renew our minds as a people and as a nation. Ever since Tinubu left government in Lagos, it’s one of the few states of the federation that has not been plagued by corruption scandals. Tinubu has been able to put capable technocrats in charge of the state. From Fashola to Ambode to Sanwo-Olu, these are extremely focused men EFCC has not been after them as it’s the story with other governors, neither has there been any international anti corruption agency that have accused them of corruption. I’ll say until we see the facts, we should just focus on someone that’s capable of resolving the daunting issues facing our nation at this time. Tinubu has to be allowed to contribute his quota to turn this nation around.

9. I remember clearly when Tinubu was the Governor of Lagos State. My most vivid memories of Lagos were the years prior to his election and the early years of his reign. I was already based in Europe, so each time I visited Nigeria the most glaring image of Lagos were the dead bodies littered all across the streets. The bags of refuse wastes and garbage all across the roads. Surprisingly even the iron handed man like Abacha could not do anything to change the rots of the then Lagos. This disgusting image of Lagos started during the regime of Babangida after the capital was moved to Abuja. The state of things got to a despicable height under Abacha just before Tinubu came. For those who didn’t see or remember Lagos of those years, it’ll be difficult to truly know the value of what Tinubu has done to Lagos and Nigeria at large. Unfortunately, i can’t see any other state in the federation that has been so transformed even after some of the presidential aspirants today ruled those states. To me our country Nigeria is also in a similar comatose state right now in terms of security, safety to lives and property, economy etc. We need a Tinubu to come with his transformational capabilities to help turn things around in Nigeria.

10. Many will be quick to point to the frailty of health of Mr. Tinubu. My answer to this is simple, it comes from my own personal experience of growing old. I’m 55. The older I get the more I discover that my body can no longer do some of the acrobatic exercises I was capable of when I was much younger. However to my amazement, I discovered that my inner man is not getting old at all, my spirit and mind are always as sharp and alert as ever. During the APC convention while younger men were falling asleep, Tinubu was agile all night. Following his victory at the convention we can all see how he has been galloping from one state to another. No one out of the candidates have been as hard working and busy as he is. His close associates talk about how Tinubu outworks all of them, working 14 to 20 hours every day. What else do people want for Christ sake? My take is this as long as Mr. Tinubu is sharp mentally, so long as he can see clearly as a visionary we need his leadership before he leaves us to a better world. We shouldn’t waste the huge potentials and life experiences that he carries inside. Friends, sooner or later you and I will get old too. While our flesh and body might be challenged, we will discover that it’s a huge injustice to discard us as simply being too old, while we know we still have something to offer. It’s not the body that rules a nation, it’s the clarity of vision. If Tinubu has that, there will be enough of able bodied men and women who’ll gladly put their bodies to work to bring the vision to pass.

As things are now only death can stop the emergence of Bola Ahmed Tinubu as Nigerian sixteenth President. If I were in the camp of Tinubu I’ll not rule out an attempt on his life by the forces bent on not letting his presidency become a reality. It’s not enough to pray for him, I will strongly advise that his security be beefed up accordingly. Nigeria cannot afford to have a repeat of the destiny of Moshood Abiola.

May God bless The Federal Republic Of Nigeria, and may all her haters live long to witness it.

Politics / No APC Presidential Candidate Was Disqualified. by expressglory: 7:05am On Jun 04, 2022
The screening committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) did not disqualify any of the 23 presidential aspirants that appeared before it, a member of the committee has clarified.

The member made the clarification to PREMIUM TIMES Friday night to correct the report that 13 of the aspirants have been disqualified.

According to the member, who asked not to be named because he had no permission to discuss the matter with journalists, the committee found that all the aspirants have the basic qualifications to run for president.

“However, based on our assessment of their chances at winning the presidential election for our party, we found that 13 of them cannot realistically do this, so we advised them to step down for others.

“We also did this to trim the list so that the party will not have to go into the primary with an unwieldy number of aspirants, 23, which will be very cumbersome.”

According to the source, those advised to step down are not obliged to take the advice.

“We have cleared all of them because they are all qualified and the party will issue them all with clearance certificates. We cannot stop any of the 13 if they insist on running and contesting in the primaries despite our advice,” the source said.

The member added that the statement the chairman of the APC screening committee made on Friday while submitting the committee’s report to the National Chairman of the party, Abdullahi Adamu, was misinterpreted by journalists.

“Go and read what the chairman said again and you would see that he did not mention the world disqualification,” the source said.

“What the panel did was to recommend to the party leadership that at least 10 of the candidates should be persuaded to withdraw because they do not appear to stand a chance of winning election for our party.

“No one was disqualified and they all can ignore our recommendation and go ahead to participate in the primary.”

While addressing journalists, former chairperson of the APC, John Odigie-Oyegun, who led the screening panel, had said all the aspirants passed the ‘basic constitutional’ requirement, but that the panel had to shortlist some aspirants.

“And on that basis (Constitution) every single member or aspirant that presented himself qualified because it was basic and simple. But we are in the governing party and we are keen on continuing the process of replacing—at a proper time—our president with another member of the party.

“It is on that basis that we made our final shortlist. I don’t want to read the names which I think would leave to you (Chairman) but we have a shortlist. We brought the number severely down to 13.

“We could have cut it a little shorter but we wanted deliberately the younger elements to surface for them to be seen, for them to be noticed and no noise. We would hand them over to the party and it is for the party to decide whom their candidate will be.”
