I faced the same challenges being the first child and daughter at the same time followed by 4 boys and my mum would not allow them to work, I was the only person that use to do the house chores.
I would go to her shop before going to school in the morning to work and also return to shop in the evening to work.

My mum would be shouting on me that I will go out and get married, she does not want me to put her to shame. I see shege, if small water pure on the floor while fetching water she would beat me and lock me out till 12 midnight, sometimes she scattered my school bag and clothes on the street.

I just learnt yesterday that my ex girlfriend committed suicide. She was gang raped earlier this year and she later went for a test and found out she was hiv positive.

She was depressed. The worst part is that the guy that stole her from me and engaged her withdrew from her after the whole rape saga.


I didn't know how to call her and console her since she did not tell me anything. Infact her family did a good job in keeping the situation secret. I heard the news from one of her close friends who made me swear I wasn't going to let her know that she told me.


Her social media presence reduced drastically. I was hurt and sad. I tried to reach out several times but I just didn't know how. I did not want her to feel that her friend betrayed her, I didn't want to add to her pain.

Yesterday the friend called me crying. She told me my ex killed herself.

Guys I have not been myself. Maybe I should have called her. Maybe I would have saved her. A lot has been going through my mind.
