Education / Re: Scrapping Post Ume Is A Stab To Our Educational System by Ezegozie(m): 9:37am On Oct 09, 2016

Stop already. I went to school, many smart parents went to school, many respectabe people went to school . Nigeria had respectable professionals who went to school in naija, all without Post UME

Its like saying a pipe is leaking, let's pile absorbent towels on it to create the illusion of dryness.
P
Solution is, fix the pipe and you will not need towels to keep the place dry. Else very soon, even the towels would get soaked and then you begin to hire people to help squeeze the water out of them and return them back. That is not a solution. That is failure

why not fix the pipe first before removing the towel?

Hi, Ladies and Gentlemen.
It's with displeasure, vexation and total disappointment that I bring up this thread to correct the mindset of those who think that scrapping Post ume is a fight to injustice and extortion of prospective students by universities.
I agree that some institutions overcharge their Prospective students during post ume application, but we all know that it's silly to kill the fly with a hammer, what FG needs to do is to reduce the fee or even make it FREE.

Does FG think that by scrapping Post Ume, they will stop extortion in our higher institutions?
There are so many other ways students can be perfectly extorted
Example
1. Increasing acceptance fee
2. Increasing hostel fee or departmental due especially for new students.
etc.

Now let me go straight to the point.
These are the reasons why I said that scrapping Post ume is a stab to our educational system

1. It creates room for excessive malpractice in WAEC.
I used the word excessive because there is already malpractice in WAEC. But with this new development, I bet you, so many special centers will come up and believe me, that will really result to that extortion we are trying to avoid.
Will you rather be extorted by special centers?

2. Removal of Post Ume will give rise to admission of half baked students in our higher institutions.
You don't need long epistle in this one. Post ume is like a sieve used to separate the grain from the chaff, when that sieve is annihilated, there won't be proper separation.

3. It will cause many jambites to re-register for WAEC probably in special centers since WAEC is now the backbone of admission into higher institutions, thereby giving rise to that extortion we are trying to avoid.

I am not a lecturer neither are my parents, but seriously I think FG has more important things to tackle than scrapping Post ume.

I rest my case.

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: N-Power Assessment Details: Starts 20th September by Ezegozie(m): 9:00am On Sep 20, 2016
sunnyfats:
I dont beleive that people can be deceived by this so called NPower, you can say this is better than nothing but i tell you, i hope it wont get to a stage where people will ask themselves why they applied in the first place.
Tell me that a government that is strugling with a lot of things at this moment will be able to sucessfully fund a project like this, maybe they will fund it, afterall, its 5000 Naira they promised to pay Jobless youths.
I see this as a political manipulation, i do not believe they can sustain this and for how long.
by the time they finally agree to pay the 5000Naira they promised, you ll see minister of information on CNN, BBC to declare, we have employed the youth as promised.
they probably just want to conduct this interview in order to raise the hopes of youths in order to buy time for themselves. at the end, you ll hear stories like, your application is still under processing or we will notify you about the progress, or better still, you dint meet requirement.
1 positive thing i see about this thing is.....this will probably be the first time in the history of Nigeria, that you ll get employment with the Government without knowing anybody.

Pls pls, Im not saying these to discourage anyone, im just saying this based on observation since the APC came into power. nothing personal

Why are you so pessimistic?
Will you lose anything by applying?

For you to move far in this world you must learn to be optimistic always.
My two cents

Investment / Re: CBN Warns Nigerians Against “MMM”, Calls It Wonder Bank by Ezegozie(m): 12:23pm On Sep 16, 2016
Kennydoc:

Deep down within your heart, do you really believe this stuff you wrote?
Are you guys wiser and more intelligent than the economists and financial analysts that have been running our economy through the CBN over the years? I'm not saying they are perfect, but it's a very complex process. It's like telling a professor of surgery to shut up his mouth because you have an opinion from a patent medicine dealer. Kai!

Comparing banks and MMM:
1) If all the depositors in a bank come for their money the same day, and all those who took loans also return their money, a bank with good financial management will be able to pay back most (or even all) of its depositors.
Interest on loans is much higher than the interest on deposits including fixed deposits cos there are much fewer people who take loans than those who make deposits. If the interest rate is the same, banks won't be able to maintain interest on deposits.
In essence, the little interest paid to numerous depositors comes from the large interest charged to the few people that take loans.
Meanwhile, if all those that last provided help in MMM ask for their money and no new person provides help, there will be no money to pay them. The scheme will immediately collapse, but not just that. It will collapse will several millions of people without any possibility of paying them back.

2) Banks also have several other avenues through which they generate money. They sell forex and make several millions from it. For example, they get forex from CBN and sometimes sell them with upwards of ₦50 difference. If FBN sells $10 million to traders in a month, that is ₦500 million naira profit, or even up to ₦1 billion, if they sell at ₦100 naira gain. Mind you that they also charge outrageous amounts on card transactions in other currencies.
Again, banks charge money on current accounts and their transactions, funds transfers and several other bank charges on different transactions.
It's all these businesses that banks do that keep them afloat and not just because they collect deposits of people.
That is why First Bank has been there since 1894, and will still remain for many more decades or even centuries.

3) You guys keep bad-mouthing banks and their systems, yet the MMM uses banks for it's operations. Participants make bank transactions, and even their interests are retained in banks. How convenient to use the principle of banking only when it favours you.

You guys are really dumb in all these stupid explanations you give to defend the fraudulent scheme, MMM.
Now, let's create a scenario here.
Assuming that in the next 2 years (say September 2018), there are 80 million participants in MMM out of our population of about 180 million, and 40 million of them provide an average help of 1 million naira each (I said average cos I know many will provide help less than 1 million and many others will provide more than 1 million). That will be 40 trillion naira worth of help provided. By the following month, the 40 million people that provided the 40 trillion naira help will need to get help worth 52 trillion naira. That means an additional 12 trillion naira help must be provided in that next month. Remember we're assuming that each participant provides help worth 1 million naira, it then means there must be an additional 12 million people that will join the scheme that next month added to the original 40 million to be able to provide help worth 52 trillion naira. By the following month (November), the amount of help that will be provided for that 52 million people will be worth 67.6 trillion naira, and it will be provided by 67.6 million people. That is an additional 15.6 million people that MUST join the scheme in that November and must equally provide an average help of 1 million each. So it means that in 2 months, the 80 million (40 million + 40 million) participants must grow to 119.6 million (52 million + 67.6 million).
Remember we've not even factored the effect of the 10% paid to those that refer new people.

Can you now see how stupid this scheme is?
You say it isn't a pyramid scheme meanwhile, you pay people 10% for every new sign up, thereby making participants hustle to sign up new people.
I just laugh at the idiocy you guys display here on Nairaland.
I took out time to chat on WhatsApp with 2 Nairalanders like you who were defending MMM few weeks ago and by the time I finished making my explanation, they agreed with me that the scheme isn't sustainable. Their only point is that they will benefit from it before it collapses. I now ask, who are the people that will lose when it does collapse?

Dey here dey form Prof in Economics while we keep on getting alerts monthly.

There is no confusion there....its simply a difference in spiritual maturity. I am spiritually mature and have been eating it and preaching to them at the same time especially since my Bible tells me to eat it freely and enjoy it too.

The other person may just not be a mature believer yet so do not call it confusion....afterall a baby must crawl before it can run and jump but both the one crawling and the one jumping are still both people.

where did the Bible tell you to eat meat offered to idols?
