I should stay very far away from this thread since I am an Aro Igbo that is mixed with Ibibio.

Anyway, this should show the Yorubas and other non-easterners that the people of the East do not want to be part of this union. Thank you OP!

As I said before, does anyone ever forget a genocide committed against them?

The Jews will attack anyone who challenges the history of the Holocaust.

The Tutsis will never let the Hutu forget what they did to them.

The Armenians will never let the Turks forget what people did to them.

And we Igbos will never forget. Nigeria is shyyyttt

We have beaten this topic like a dead horse on Nairaland. Especially the bolded. Igbo's first betrayed Yoruba's and Nigerians through an act of COWARDICE perpetrated by Azikiwe. Then they organised a coup in which Yoruba's were killed as well. Because we are a quiet ethnic group does not mean we are silly. Igbo's always expect to have their way with Yoruba's and expect Yoruba's to give them everything on a silver platter. We also have our interests to protect, and killing our officers will never ever gain our support. Until we cut our necks and give you, una no go dey satisfied. TOUGH! Like small Nigerian children will sing, " First to do, e no dey pain, Second to do, "-
Actually you Yorubas betrayed Azikiwe who was a firm believer in one Nigeria. I am not a supporter of Azikiwe, but Awolowo getting other Yorubas not support this man and forcing Azikiwe to flee to the East is nonsense.

As everyone knows, Azikiwe was not a tribal chieftain. He was Pan-African. Why do you think we Igbos do not support the man?

Theres alot of people who died in the north  aside from igbo- or do you not know when hausas beaf with igbo they take it out on christians( who arent igbo anyway) sorta like the same way igbos burned down mosques in the EAST in retaliation, even though people who attend mosques are  muslim yoruba, edo and middle belters.

While the Governement is at it- They should have a day for the Niger deltans who were killed, and another day for the northerners and middle belters who were killed by the Nigerian Army indiscriminately.
and how bout one for Mko abiola who died in Jail- though he won a free election.

and VERY SPECIAL DAY FOR Al-Hajji Sir Ahmadu Bello AND  Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa - How bout we put it all on one day.

I have no problem with the Above.
Did you know that not only Igbos were killed. I am part Ibibio and anyone who was from the East was killed in large numbers as well. And people wonder why many Igbos despise the Yorubas. With foolish comments like this. At least Wole Soyinka had the guts to admit that Nigeria was wrong for what they did to the Igbo poulace. Do you know how many Igbos were killed? It was higher than the amount of Tutsis that were killed in Rwanda. It was a genocide. No other group in Nigeria except the Tiv went through a genocide of this nature.

@ Ezeuche, apologise for what.Did the Jews go and start a civil war? Has America ever apologised to the South for its number of casualties? All is fair in love and war. If Igbo's entered into a war they could not win, then its their own fault.Nothing is ever resolved through bloody coups and staging wars.In my opinion Igbo's owe Nigeria an apology for a senseless war that cost so many lives.
For not protecting Eastern civilians in the north. You people need to understand that innocent Igbo civilians had nothing to do with this coup so why should they suffer? I don't understand that. Just, because a few Igbo officers decided to commit a coup, does not mean that the populace had anything to do with it. We Igbos believe in individuality.

And you cannot compare the American civil war with the Nigerian civil war. This was Americans v. Americans who were fighting due to states rights/slavery. They were basically the same people, settlers from the UK. In Nigeria, it was a tribe against other tribes. Igbos do not owe Nigeria anything. Maybe the individual officers, but not the Igbo populace.

NIGERIA owes the Igbo big time. No wonder Nigeria is hell. You ostracize your most progressive group and the country goes no where.

Why is the brunt of your (not you, but majority of your kinsmen) bitterness directed at Yorubas and not Nigerians?
Last time I checked, Yorubas are Nigerians. I am directing this to all non-Easterners. It does, matter if you are Yoruba, Hausa, Kanuri etc. However, many people in the East, not only Igbos are still bitter at Yorubas for what they see as cowardice from the Yoruba elite who did not keep their end of the bargain.

Plus, it is common knowledge how Yoruba obas went up to the North to thank the Emirs for not targetting their people in the pogroms.
@EzeUche - What exactly do you mean by "until Nigeria comes to terms with this bloddy history"? - What exactly do you guys want?
A remembrance day for all the Igbos who died in the pogroms in the North and who died following the build up to the Civil War

And finally, an apology from the Nigerian gov't for the crimes that committed against the Eastern populace and not protecting innocent Eastern civilians throughout the country.

Is that so much to ask for? Even Germany apologized to the Jews and they still have remembrance days for the fallen.

@ OP
ROTFLMAO. Very ridiculous thread and article.Be careful about the articles you post so people don't think you lack a brain. Not everyone that writes a story and tags it as research should be taken seriously.Would have expected you to be objective and live up to your name. The writer is obviously a fictional story writer and looks desperate trying to deny responsibility for a terrible failure. I thought Igbo's were always proud at being the sole geniuses behind biafra. So you guys can actually stoop low enough to say Yoruba's were the master planners that roped you into a terrible trap? What happened to the very "independent and intelligent Igbo people". This article is a huge comedy. @ d person that says Nzeogwu ran to awolowo.rotflmao. He also says the knows for a fact.Nairaland kwenu! Whatelse can you people come up with? Hahahahahahaha
Nigeria has blood on its hands. You think the pictures of starving children cannot be seen. Many of those children were the parents of the Igbos who are your age. You think their parents did not tell them this.

We will never forget nor forgive until Nigeria comes to term with this bloody history. And people wonder why Igbos do not consider themselves Nigerians. Heck even the South-South does not consider themselves Nigerians. The East will always be a restless area.

And must you remember the Igbo are the only people who have been able to battle the full brunt of the Nigeria military with courage! Thank God my father sent a lot of marauders to their early graves.

And everyone knows the Chaos in the WEST was a big problem for Nigeria as a whole.

Some Yorubas will deny that, but I remember when my uncle who was living at Ibadan at the time, was saying the West was looking like it was going to go up in flames.

People were horrified.

We Igbos will continue to speak the truth on this issue.

A genocide was committed against us and we will never forget. You think the Jews forgot about the genocide against them, you think the Tutsis will forget the genocide committed against them, do you think the Armenians will forget the genocide against them?

The answer is NO! Hell no! Just look at all the people who survived a genocide and see how they act. Israel will attack anyone who threatens their life. The Tutsis will never allow a Hutu control Rwanda ever again. The Armenians are still bitter enemies of the Turks. angry angry angry angry angry

We will never forget. Asaba's population was decimated, everyone knows this in the East. Delta Igbo suffered the most I believe during that war.

Desert populations do not produce more babies than tropical populations. That is a fact. Their region cannot support such a large population.

modify your post and stop causing problems. Ogidi is not even Yoruba, he is a self hating Igbo
but why assume he is Yoruba and start posting garbage?
Gbam!

Ogidi is in Anambra. Isn't that the birthplace of Chinua Achebe? It is sad, that a self hating Igbo is from that illustrious town that gave the world Chinua Achebe.

The Tiv are getting what they deserve. I think the Jukon their rival ethnic group are targeting them.

Awolowo is dead, he could not speak for all Yorubas as we all know.

It is sad though. And the victors of the war, tried to spend it another angle.

Kidnapping yes (for now, was not so before), robbery no. You are a bonafide ignoramus.
Seems like this Igbo boy is suffering from self-hate. As Americans say, you do not air out your dirty laundry for the whole world to see.

Why make an assertion to get people angry? Numbers matter.

Just like the Armenians have waited for the international community to recognize the genocide committed against them, so will we Igbos.

The British have blood on their hands as well just like the Belgium have blood on their hands in Rwanda.

Thank you! An independent review that was not sponsored by Nigerians.

Now I know people can't deny it since, we now have a unbiased view on the situation.

See we even wanted to make Obafemi Awolowo Prime Minister. See we Igbos believed in One Nigeria. I think we have been vindicated.

This is absolutely pathetic, nothing Igbo people wont do for money. Can you imagine Traditional rulers, not one , not two , three , four , five ( I have only five fingers) involved in kidnapping. Wonder shall never end. If Igbo traditional rulers can descend so low and be involved in kidnapping, then Igbo society has lost it conscience and become morally bankrupt. All igbos on the forum should bury there head in shame.

We Igbos did not have this traditional ruler nonsense until the British brought this warrant chief nonsense. Remember we Igbos have no king, except in a few isolated Igbo communities.

Let us throw out these chiefs and go back to our old ways.

Agreed. . .

We don't start talking about a person's legacy unless they are dead or 40 years after his/her accomplishments.
