was this not the same people a certain ahj harem posted several articles about their complaints? |
pazienza: The assimilation process is as peaceful as it can be,Agbontae and his kind always have the option of returning back to bini. Ezotic, i am sure that you will accept him as a lost but found brother.why should that be their option? and since they are hell-bent on maintaining their identity where they are. what would be ur option? wipe them off the land? and also, what if the yorubiod group want to return to their original yoruba identity? tell them to move to yorubaland? it seems this igbo imperialism leaves no room for anybody. |
lol @ "peaceful assimilation" when reading this thread alone, it doesnt seem so peaceful. anyway, goodnight. |
pazienza: I have explained how and why odogwu and his descendants who ascended the throne of Owa took the name of former bini kings. This same thing happened in Ugbodu,a yoruba dialect speaking people of Anioma, they in trying to curry favour from the Oba,did exactly the same thing Odogwu and his descendants did in Owa. These are the list of former kings of Ugbodu, from the ancient to present: Adeola, Aderemi, Ariyo, Odofin; Adetunji,Oyetunji, Ogbomon, Ozoluwa, Izebuwa, Ogbelaka, Izedomen, Osakpalor, Esigie, Igbinadolor, Osalohua, Osamewanmen, Ebor, Dike, Ochei, Ezenwani, Isinyemeze.from yoruba to edo to igbo. so, doesnt that show the people are not originally igbos? and what would u call their current transformation? igbo imperialism? and thanks for the meaning of onyinye. |
no shaking. but can u edit ur post where u quoted the post i removed? i wouldnt mind that. uwese. |
lol, this is funny. so it will not be hard to fish u out in TO. anyway, ogbebor who became ogbebor n'usen story is actually worth telling on this thread of how he became a chief in benin. |
bokohalal: That is my mother's family from Usen.t'ewanta! ogbebor n'usen? |
bokohalal: The greetings has enabled the Binis,in the absence of tribal marks, to know their own. It is why we are vehement in our belief that the Edos did not sell their own into slavery.Even if you spoke Bini fluently the question would inevitably arise: du ukhu nu tue?(how do you greet?). If answered within any of the Bini greetings, you were free to go.Same applied in cases of curfews and hunting for human sacrifice.we greet dalahe. but ive noticed some family members greet it as dalai and lahe. i guess the intonation has changed over the years. |
bokohalal: That will be for another time. This time is for ordinary Bini folks.oma, ghe gui oo, idawenhor. and when i have any input i will add. |
removed. |
evbin hia ma. |
gha gie we? uhun noba magie! mtshewww.... |
btw, capish? - uhon? |
and oh, bokohalal. i now know the meaning of 'isale' in bini. not saying it is same with yoruba 'isale' tho. isale - im combing hair - eto comb - oyiya the act of combing - sale (pronounced sah-ley) isale - im combing. sentence with it in bini: isale eto mwen - im combing my hair capish? |
bokohalal: It remains 'enowaren, eniwaren'. It is not a gender thing.yes, it is. when u meet an elderly man, the greeting is epa domo for an elderly woman, the greeting is iye koyor/ or koye u never say enowaren domo/or enowaren koyor. the greeting is gender based coz enowaren applies to both sexes |
bokohalal: Elder is 'Enowaren'enowaren is for anyone that is old. but male and female designates in bini was what i was going for in that post. |
bokohalal: Many of Ezotik's Bini words are not so called. Death, sunglasses, elder and star, for example, are not not correct.i'll be interested to know ur word for elder and the other words i got wrong. |
bokohalal: Some corrections.death/die - uwu/wu. (its actually same thing and i dont think anybody would have misunderstood it. but i will give u that since u are technically more correct) Sunglasses or eyeglasses-ughede (sorry, ive never heard it called ughede. i dont know even know what that means. sunshades/eyeglasses is ughegbe and i guess ughegbe was designated for it because of the mirror-effect of sunshades/eyeglasses) Star-orhomwen (the edo website posted here also seem to think star is owen. and personally, i dont know what is orhomwen) |
okay...now i see. okeho makes sense for airplane cos it literally means air-ship so, eke okeho sounds better than ekena-natin.. the "na-na" sounded a bit odd. |
airpoti ![]() but i could coin a word though, ekena-natin (location where u fly). btw, ship - oko (pronounced oh-kor) |
i think computer is still computer. dont know of any word used/or coined for it. |
Afam4eva: Ones there's a word that's tagged as spam in a post, the entire post will be hidden and the poster will be banned.ok @starflux 'ilaw agbon' not too sure what that would mean. the closest i can guess is 'ilagbon' meaning 'into the world' or 'into life' |
bokohalal: Snow- esia.what's the original meaning? or it is a new word? |
btw, snow - emue (originally means ash) |
lol @ spam. then how come the words are not the ones hidden? |

starflux, i honestly dont know. but what i noticed is that the older books by old writers have tonal marks. i guess the recent writers are not too sure of where to place the tones correctly as placing a tone incorrectly can give a word a new meaning. i for example is also not to sure, so most times, i just spell the way i pronounce. i will try and add more words as they come to mind to thread especially words i feel are going obsolete. but without tones tho ![]() |
old words incorporated into modern society bank account - aza (originally mean safe) cheque - ebe (originally means leaf/paper) email - ekpeti (originally means box) password - olode (originally means pin/needle) welfare - arioba (originally means enjoyment) aborigines of canada - ivbiotor (indigenes) ![]() |
