Akainzo:

Just as there has been progressive improvement towards nudity in the dressing of the general public. Look at the dresses ladies wear in public these days, and then you'd understand why those same ladies want to use the excuse of the carnival to let-go!
Truth! I also took pictures of onlookers that came to watch, u wont know who is more naked, the onlookers or the participants.

Afam4eva: It has never been about promoting our culture but about promoting the cultures of the carribean islands. Now, they're now promoting the culture of sodom and gomorra. The calabar carnival, the port-hacourt carnival and the Lagos carnival are a shame.
carnival is not primarily to promote culture but to me its to catch fun and pass time. Though the carribean may do thier own to promote their culture its because thier people appreciate the essence of thier culture and find satisfaction in it. But here in nigeria most especially lagos where no ones feel the presence of culture where everyone want to hip and merry to the new trend of life, you are expecting them to showcase some masquerade and...... I still support the traditional dance and some show of inherited drama. But the problem is where are the people that will efficiently perform this things. They are all gone. If you want traditional show there are many festival that you can go, festival such as yam festival, masquerade day and so on. This are total traditional so go there and catch fun, and let the carnival advance to the age we are now. *but am not in support of showcasing some indescency in carnival*

This is all about fake morality. People complain about n.a.k.e.d.n.e.s.s. and... foreign... culture, but at the same time they try to sleep with anything that moves... sleep with multiple girlfriends, underage girls etc. Is that the morale we are talking about here?! Attend Sunday service in the local church, on Sunday evening sleep with neighbour's wife... let me not mention some other, this time illegal activities usually done in the night.

Calabar Carnival was never about our culture or Heritage...

Why Calabar cant have a canival that features all the Masquredes from all the communities in Cross River performing, hava a nice boat regatta on that waterway behind TINAPA and maybe mix in a little bit of the Carrebean flavor is still a wonder..

Seems all that they have to offer is simply t!tties..

Its Okay for Liyel Imoke to import stark n@ked Carrebean women with amazing t!tties and march them all over the streets of Calabar, NO PROBLEM!! but Wande Coal puts a local content t!tty on a music video and they ban it!!

What do you mean by the above statement? Have you seen Calabar girls go/run/move around naked?
People like you who have absolutely no idea about what they are talking about always spout the most rubbish.
Re: Calabar Carnival No Longer About Promoting Our Culture by texazzpete(m): 11:17am On Jan 25, 2013
In many Nigerian cultures, women went about even more unclad than some of these photos you're babbling about

Clothing, Accessories, and so on

At this point in history, the only purpose of clothing in Igboland was to cover private parts. Children are believed to have nothing to hide and are usually naked. A child may wear a string of beads around the waist for medicinal purposes or reasons. Igbo women always carried babies on their backs with a strip of clothing. A tradition that has continued until today.

In most cases, women did not have to cover the breast area. As Achebe noted on page 71 of Things Fall Apart:

She (i.e. Akueke) wore a black necklace which hung down in three coils just above her full, succulent breasts... and on her waist, four or five rows of jigida, or waist beads.
Page 103:

She (i.e. Ekwefi) began to run, holding her breats with her hands to stop them flapping noisily against her body.

Men went around with loincloths only, too.

How about the little children on the streets of those cities.

It is silly that a government sponsored event is this way.

It is embarrasing to say the least.

And tomorrow they will claim to be banning prostitution.

In fact this is the kind of thing the women organisations should be speaking against-OBJECTIFICATION OF WOMEN but the silly governor's wife was probably there clappinh

Calabar should continue. They have created a niche for themselves. Calabar is now viewed by the world as a tourist city. So painful I missed the carnival. I am preparing for this one. Peeps you cannot like everything. Not everyone will conform to your high standards. Some people just want to have fun. Let them be and face your morals.

Funny: The ignorant people screaming Sodom and Gomorah are actually the ones trying to import a strange culture to Africa. Because, as far as Africans have always been concerned: the less worn under the hot sun, the better.

You just increased the no of pple hoping ti have a go with their neighbours, the little girls, etc by this public show of shame.
