In the past, I have always thought of finding that special somebody that would be my tomato Jos, my honey picurry, my ofe akwu, my breadfruit pudding, someone who I would walk down the aisle with and would make me put an end to all the numerous packages with Umu pino pino. I decided to search for that "special someone" that would meet up with at least 90% of what I want and need in a woman. Yes! I am that greedy. Marriage is meant to be enjoyed and not endured. While I searched, I still ran packages with my pino pino them. Hehehehehe After numerous weeks of searching, I finally came in contact with one omalicha like that in a bus to Owerri. To be honest, even before speaking to her, she already had 70% of what I wanted in a woman and I decided to strike na of which I did. I got to know her name as Franciska and exchanged contacts after which I alighted the bus at warehouse in Owerri. I called my newly found ifunanya(love) hours later and we decided to meet some days after, which we did. We kept going for dates and her character et al made her get 89.9% of my specification jare and my guys got to know her too. Yours truly kept going broke on each date until I popped the question about going into a relationship with her. My omalicha agreed sha and I was like the happiest man on earth that night. I really wanted to do some "kwokirikwo" that night since it's official but no, I decided to slow down since na me still get am. I was so happy I found love with this omalicha as I thought it never existed. We were the talk of town as I flaunted her as Iyanya flaunts his muscles to the ladies. I spoke of her as many times as Lil Kesh would say "skiboroboski, skiboroboro" in his songs. Her photos and videos occupied 60% of my 32gb Sd card memory as I was determined to be faithful to this one girl. I even changed her contact name on my handset as "BABY MAMA", Yeah, she must born one before any marriage plans. I have to test her fertility na. Nsogbu(problem) showed itself when after two weeks of being in a relationship with her, I got several calls from my guys about this my omalicha's whereabouts. Mbanu! It can not be biko as it is too early for stories. I decided to investigate. Chai! Can you believe I caught this my baby mama repeatedly with several guys on different occasions? And the worst of it is that I would still show myself in an unusual way but this omalicha would still act as if I were not present. Chai! e pain me. I decicded to confront my baby mama and what I got as a reply was devastating. She said "why are you monitoring me? Do you in any way look like my husband? Or because I am dating you, I shouldn't date other guys? Please I can"t stop catching fun because of you". Chai! I got so surprised and kept wondering at how this girl got 89.9% of my specification. Was I charmed or I was just stupid? Mbanu! Ogwuna(it's finished). I ended the relationship then and there as I went back home with so many thoughts , one of them being how stupid I was to have taken this girl serious. She should have been on the list of my numerous pino pino packages. I eventually changed her contact name on my handset to "BAD MOVE" and I am still deleting her photos and videos on my handset. I will not take any omalicha seriously again as they will all remain "pino pino packages". Ofe Owerri (Owerri soup) is a sumptuous, nutritious and delicious Nigerian soup which is specifically native to the Igbos from Imo State especially those from Owerri the capital city. Popularly known as the jewel of the southeastern soups, it is a delicacy that has recently caused lots of arguments between different cooks both indigenes and non-indigenes. The controversy is centered on the combination of vegetables to use for this soup as there is no general consensus on the vegetable to use unlike other Igbo soups. While some postulate that Ugu (pumpkin) and Uziza leaves are used in preparing it, others opine that it is Uziza and Okazi leaves and few follow the school of Oha and Uziza leaves. Traditionally, Ofe Owerri has two major vegetables: Ugu and Okazi leaves. Other vegetable used in this soup is based on the cook’s taste and preference. To set straight the records, I will be giving the steps that can serve as a guide-post to preparing a typical Ofe owerri. The recipes listed here can serve a family of six. A traditional Ofe Owerri recipes/ ingredients are: 1.5kg of assorted meats(cow tail, skin, intestines, goat meat etc) 6-10 pieces of snails 1 medium sized stock fish head (okporoko) 2 medium dry fish (Azu Nkrurkunku or Azu Asa) 1 cup of ground crayfish 2 tablespoons of dry ground pepper (ose ikpo) 4-5 pieces of cocoyam (Ede) substitute are Achi or Ofor 1 wrap of Ogiri (Locust beans) 1 big bunch of Ugu (pumpkin) leaves 1 medium bunch of Okazi leaves 1 small bunch of Uziza leaves (optional) 2 cooking spoons of palm oil 1 medium sized onion Salt 4 cubes of knorr magi Directions/ Instructions: STEP 1: Wash your vegetables thoroughly for about two to three times with clean water separately (you can add a little salt to the water depending on how dusty the vegetables are), then slice thinly and put them into different sieves to drain water and set aside. However, it is basically preferable to slice the Okazi leaves before washing it. STEP 2: Wash the cocoyam thoroughly with water to remove every trace of sand and dust. Place it into a small pot with lots of water maybe, two medium cups of water, do not add salt and allow boiling for 10-15 minutes. When the Cocoyam is cooked, peel off the skin either with your bare hands or knife, then, put it into a mortar and pound into a paste. During the pounding, add a table spoon of palm oil to the paste because of the sticky nature of the cocoyam. Adding the oil keeps the cocoyam from sticking to the mortar as well as brightens the colour of the soup. Once the cocoyam appears smooth scoop it out of the mortar and set aside. (This serves as the soup thickener) STEP 3: Wash the meats with clean water thoroughly and place into a big pot. It is better to start with the tougher meats like the cow skin, tail, intestines etc first before the softer ones like beef or snails. After washing them, season with 2 cubes of knorr maggi, onion, half tablespoon of pepper and an adequate amount of salt to taste. Start boiling them with a generous amount of water. Remember to wash the snails with alum to remove the slimy fluid from the body. Soak the stockfish head in hot water for about 10 minutes to soften it and remove dirt from it. Also, wash the dry fish with warm water and set aside. When the tougher meats have boiled for 15 minutes, they have become slightly tender so, add the stock fish, snails and other soft meats and let it boil for another 15 minutes till they all become soft. Take note, the stock from the meats will serve as the base for the soup. So endeavor to season it well. This will save you the stress of adding more seasoning later. STEP 4: Once the meat is cooked, add 3-4 cups of water to the meat stock or the cooked meat. Then add the cocoyam and stir, let it cook and thicken for 5 minutes. After this add the palm oil, dry fish, crayfish (make sure you wash it because of dirts), ogiri, salt, 2 cubes of knorr chicken, and pepper. Cover the pot and let it cook for 2-5 minutes until the oil combines with the soup and loses its raw taste. At this stage, you will also notice a colour change- a light shade of orange when the palm oil has bubbled vigorously. You can taste the soup to know if you have your desired amount of the seasoning. If not, add more according to your taste. STEP 5: Add the vegetables starting first with the okazi because it is stronger, then uziza and ugu. Stir the soup after let it simmer on low heat for 5 minutes then turn off the cooker. Make sure the soup is not too thick or light. Your delicious ofe owerri is ready, serve with any swallow of your choice – fufu, pounded yasm, eba, semovita, wheat etc. Enjoy eating!!! Written by Chiamaka Ajaemo. I hope this guy takes off his glasses when he makes love. |
So today I woke at around 5:30am thanks to my alarm. Nna, I set out to brush my teeth so man pikin's mouth would not spoil people's day and I got to find out that I had no water. Nsogbu adiro! I used my last sachet water to do the needful. I got ready for morning mass and got there just before the sign of the cross thingy. After all the rites involving standing and sitting and all that, it was time for the homily. The Priest talked about chastity and how to abstain from "ikwa iko"(fornication). The message was like it was directed to me. The priest kept hammering the word and I kept on being sobber. Meanwhile, yours truly has plans with one pino pino(an igbo nickname given to a very cute igbo lady and it signifies endowment) like that living around my area. To be sincere, you would definitely turn and lust after this damsel once she crosses your path. Pino pino's real name is Sandra. She's about 5ft7" tall, light in complexion (natural asampete), and has very big foward and a moderate backyard. Pino pino is on lowcut, has very cute succulent lips, spotless face and legs to die for. She's 21 years of age, student Imo State University and is the first daughter and third child of five children. Now you can imagine how Pino pino looks like. Back in church, I was already condeming my package today with pino pino as I asked for forgiveness. Suddenly, while in the spirit, I felt something move in my stomach down to the pelvic cavity. I thought to myself, maybe I am about to be delivered of evil spirit lusting after pino pino. The movement continued and made me very uncomfortable during the homily. I was sweating profusely and then I felt something poke my onu ike (anus) from the inside. Mbanu! This can't be deliverance. It then dawn on me that I had to visit the toilet. I had eaten Ofe Nda Nkechi last night and that woman's soup runs my stomach all the time. What can I do kwanu in this ochichi Buhari? Umu nne, I had to run out of the church still during the homily to go and get myself comfortable in a nearby bush. I kept pushing and pushing out all that was in my stomach while in the bush until after the mass has ended. I came out, made the sign of the cross and left the church. Right now, I'm at work and I'll still get to complete my package with pino pino later today. It is quite natural for all of us to want to preserve and protect the foods we purchase. With that in mind, we always think that the best way to do that is by putting them in our refrigerators. However, there are certain foods which should never be placed in the fridge. Below, we have put together an extended list of such foods. The results and certain entries, may surprise you. 1. BANANA - Because they retain nutrients better outside the fridge, bananas should never be placed inside the refrigerator. According to Canadian Produce Marketing Association, bananas are better kept on the counter until they ripen. The cold temperatures actually slow down the ripening process of the bananas. 2. POTATO - Potato Growers of Alberta all agree; spuds should be placed in a cool, dry and dark space. By reason of the cold temperatures of the fridge, it can turn starch into sugar more rapidly. Because of that, keeping tots out of there, is best. It is also recommended that potatoes be removed from plastic or paper bags they may have been placed in. Also, keep them unwashed, as well in a well-ventilated cardboard box. 3. ONION - Placing your onions inside your refrigerator will eventually end up turning them moldy and soft. According to the National Onion Association in the U.S, unpeeled onions should be kept out of plastic bags and fridge. One of the reasons for this is because unpeeled onions require and need air exposure for maximum life. If you have peeled an onion though, then you should keep it in the fridge, in a covered container. 4. AVOCADO - If you purchased an avocado that’s not ripen, you should not place it in your refrigerator. Since they will need time to ripen, keeping in the cold cooler will deter and impede that process. Also, placing the avocado in your fridge should only be done if the avocado is already ripe and you won’t use it right away. 5. GARLIC - Believe it or not, placing garlic in your refrigerator will actually cause it to sprout. The garlic will also get moldy and even rubbery. Moreover, inside your fridge, the look of the garlic will rarely change. This means you won’t be able to tell if it’s any good until you finally slice it open. 6. BREAD - Nothing dries out bread faster than your refrigerator. In the event that you have made sandwiches with the bread, then you can place them in the fridge. The cold temperature will make the bread tough and chewy. Furthermore, the coldness tends to make the bread turn stale and harder, at a faster pace. 7. TOMATOES - We all love tomatoes for their taste. But putting them in the refrigerator will cause them to lose all of their flavour. Plus, the cold air in the cooler stops the ripening process as well. And as we all know, ripening is what gives every tomato more taste and flavor. The cold temperature of the fridge will alter the texture of the tomatoes as well. Lastly, coldness breaks down the membranes within the fruit walls, according to Harold McGee’s On Food and Cooking. For best results, keep tomatoes out, and inside a basket or a bowl on your counter. 8. HONEY - Providing that you keep it in a tightly sealed place, honey will stay good almost forever. Therefore, storing it in your cooler doesn’t make sense. Honey, is a naturally preserved food so it needs no help from us. Ironically enough, placing honey in your refrigerator will in fact speed up the sugar crystallization process. The result of that will be the honey becoming almost dough- like, in form. Thus, making it harder or nearly impossible to scoop or use. Lalasticlala Source: http://ezydaniel..co.ke/2016/10/8-foods-never-to-put-in-refridgerator.html?m=1
