Cabal At Buhari’s Presidency Agrees To Free Senate President Saraki If He Frustrates Confirmation Of EFCC Chair, Magu

BY SAHARA REPORTERS

A cabal made up of high-level appointees in President Muhammadu Buhari’s office has struck a deal with Senate President Bukola Saraki to cease all forms of prosecution against him if he would agree to block the confirmation of Ibrahim Magu as chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Mr. Saraki has had a series of legal losses in his bid to stop his multiple prosecutions for false asset declaration and money laundering. The senator’s latest legal misfortune came earlier today when a panel of the Court of Appeal dismissed his effort to stop his trial.

Mr. Saraki has had a series of legal losses in his bid to stop his multiple prosecutions for false asset declaration and money laundering. The senator’s latest legal misfortune came earlier today when a panel of the Court of Appeal dismissed his effort to stop his trial.

However, Mr. Buhari’s Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari, the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Lawal Daura, as well as the Attorney General of the Federal, Abubakar Malami are conspiring to frustrate Mr. Saraki’s prosecution, according to a finding of a lengthy investigation by our correspondent. Since his appointment as the EFCC’s acting chairman, Mr. Magu has faced unusual impediments from Mr. Kyari and other members of the cabal, all of them members of an inner circle within the Presidency.

Our investigations revealed that Mr. Magu got on the bad side of the president’s Chief of Staff when he refused to drop investigations against Sahara Energy, a company in which Mr. Kyari has a substantial interest. Mr. Magu also incurred the anger of the Chief of Staff when he refused to accept a deal to free Jide Omokore, a businessman with ties to former Petroleum Minister Diezani Alison-Madueke.

Our investigative correspondent learned that Mr. Omokore had made efforts to see President Buhari twice with the assistance of the Chief of Staff and offered bribes to Mr. Kyari and his team. Our investigator also learned that Mr. Kyari had also promised Mr. Omokore that he would be off the hook once he paid back a mere N500 million as restitution, even though the businessman accumulated billions of dollars through fraudulent oil swap deals and questionable acquisition of oil assets arranged by former Petroleum Minister, Mrs. Alison-Madueke.

The EFCC’s Magu scuttled Mr. Kyari’s deal with the oil tycoon when he not only arrested Mr. Omokore but also detained and arraigned him in court for money laundering.

On his part, Attorney General Malami may have joined the conspiracy to fire Mr. Magu from the EFCC because the AGF is close to interests that see Mr. Magu as a threat. Also, a source close to the AGF told our correspondent that Mr. Malami was upset that the EFCC boss was not taking directives from him regarding issues of who to prosecute or not a decision that made him set up a national protection commission domiciled in his office. For instance, on several occasion when the EFCC played a major role in the arraignment and prosecution of Senator Saraki, the AGF and several members of his team, including the Solicitor-General of the Federation and the Director of Public Prosecution, had put enormous pressure on Rotimi Jacobs, the independent prosecutor in charge of the case.

Soon after Mr. Magu’s appointment, the AGF had written a scathing report addressed to President Buhari stating why he was completely opposed to Mr. Magu’s confirmation as the substantive EFCC chairman. Based on Mr. Malami’s prompting, Chief of Staff Kyari and the DSS Director-General went to work to find dirt on Mr. Magu. It did not take long before they found out that the National Security Adviser, Babagana Monguno, was a strong backer of the EFCC chair. Mr. Kyari and his team also discovered that both Mr. Monguno and Mr. Magu had been close friends with a former Air Force officer and a member of the Presidential Arms Investigation Panel, Air Commodore Umar Mohammed (rtd).

In June, DSS agents raided Commodore Mohammed’s home and detained him on allegations that he received bribes from some suspects accused of stealing funds budgeted for arms. SaharaReporters learned that, while in DSS detention, Mr. Mohammed was pressured to implicate both Mr. Magu and Mr. Monguno as persons for whom he was collecting bribes from former Nigerian military officers under investigation. However, Mr. Mohammed refused to budge. In retaliation, the DSS refused to release him despite several court orders to do so. Justice Nnamdi Dimgba, one of the judges who gave an order for Commodore Mohammed’s release, himself became a victim of a late-night raid by the DSS two weeks as DSS agents began hunting down judges accused of corruption.

When DSS agents could not get Commodore Mohammed to implicate Mr. Monguno and Mr. Magu, they wrote a report claiming that the detained former officer had been paying the rent for Mr. Magu’s home in Abuja. They also alleged that Mr. Magu once flew to Kano on a private jet owned by the detained air force general. When the DSS eventually charged Commodore Mohammed to court, they made no mention of his being a front for Mr. Monguno and Mr. Magu. Instead, he was accused of being in possession of guns with an expired license and $1million allegedly found at his home.

SaharaReporters learned that, as part of the internal conspiracy to stall Mr. Magu’s confirmation, the Chief of Staff, Kyari, refused to forward a letter to the Senate requesting for confirmation of the EFCC boss. However, while President Buhari was in the United Kingdom in June 2016 for a short vacation and medical checkup, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo invoked his powers as Acting President to compel the Chief of Staff to send a letter to the Senate asking for Mr. Magu’s confirmation.

A reluctant Mr. Abba Kyari sent the letter. However, as soon as President Buhari returned the Chief of Staff showed him “mountains of security reports,” including some that claimed Mr. Magu was leaking presidential secrets to Saharareporters and other news media. The source also disclosed that Mr. Buhari wanted to know if Mr. Magu owned expensive homes, huge bank accounts or had ever received proceeds of corruption, to which the COS reportedly answered in affirmative.

A source at the Presidency told our correspondent that President Buhari insisted that, since he ceded power to the VP, everything Mr. Osinbajo did while was away could not be reversed.

According to one source, President Buhari did not want to use Mr. Magu’s confirmation to bargain with Senator Saraki whom he loathes, hence the president did nothing to lobby the Senate President to confirm the EFCC chair even when Mr. Saraki met with him to ask for directives on what to do with Magu.

Our investigation discovered that Mr. Saraki has been an active player in the plot to stop Mr. Magu. The EFCC chair had offended the senator twice during his political career. During the senator’s tenure as Governor of Kwara State, Mr. Magu was in charge of the dreaded “Governance Team” set up by the Nuhu Ribadu-led EFCC to go after corrupt state governors between 2003 and 2009. Mr. Saraki was investigated and was due for arrest when Mr. Ribadu was kicked out of the EFCC after he managed to arrest former Governor James Ibori of Delta State. Mr. Saraki then shopped for and recommended Farida Waziri as Mr. Ribadu’s replacement. As soon as Mrs. Waziri was firmly planted as the chairperson of the EFCC, she went after Mr. Magu, got him arrested and detained on the flimsy excuse that EFCC documents were found on his laptop in Lagos. Mr. Magu spent weeks in detention in 2008 and was subsequently freed and redeployed to the Nigeria police.

Also, as soon as Mr. Magu was appointed to head the EFCC, he arrested Mr. Saraki’s wife, Toyin Saraki, and interrogated her for hours. EFCC officials said Mrs. Saraki wilted under the intense interrogation and offered “very helpful information about her husband’s financial misdeeds.”

SaharaReporters learned that Mr. Magu has made efforts on his own to reach out to Senators to confirm him. However, our investigators learned that some of the top senators demanded that he drop investigations against them or hand over their files to them for destruction before they would back his confirmation. Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu, whom Mr. Magu disgraced earlier this year after he was given an award by the EFCC liaison to the National Assembly, reportedly tried to extract apologies from Mr. Magu while secretly filming their encounter. Also, Senator Stella Oduah, a former Aviation Minister, went to meet Mr. Magu in his office in the company of a former Secretary to the Federal Government, Pius Anyim, to pledge her support so long as Mr. Magu was willing to drop investigations relating to her multimillion dollar airport renovation projects during her ministerial tenure under former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Also, former Governor Goodwill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State reportedly asked that Mr. Magu soft-pedals on a myriad of corruption cases against him.

Two EFCC sources told SaharaReporters that Mr. Magu tactically decided to slow down on prosecuting high-profile corruption cases in order to advance his confirmation. However, his confirmation woes appear even more complicated as several targets of EFCC investigations have been pressuring Senators not to confirm him.

Mr. Saraki is coordinating onslaughts on Mr. Magu while regularly telling lobbyists for the EFCC chairman that new conditions must be met before he would move forward on the confirmation. According to one of our sources, Mr. Saraki is demanding that some seasoned EFCC investigators who handled his case be transferred out of the agency back to the police. He had also required that Mr. Magu forward to him all files relating to high- profile investigations of senators. Our source said the Senate President appeared to want the documents to use them either to control other senators or buy their loyalty.

One source said Attorney General Malami had already fulfilled the first part of the agreement between him and Saraki. Last month, the AGF’s office suddenly withdrew forgery charges against Mr. Saraki and his deputy, Mr. Ekweremadu, claiming that prosecutors did not have a watertight case against the two senators. At the next adjourned date, charges were also dropped against two senior National Assembly staffers who aided the forgery of National Assembly rules that led to the controversial election of Mr. Saraki and Mr. Ekweremadu in 2015.

Our source stated that the next case to suffer would be the assets declaration case against Senator Saraki at the Code of Conduct Tribunal. According to the source, Rotimi Jacobs, the independent lawyer handling the case, was being pressured to withdraw from it to enable more malleable prosecutors to take over. The source said the strategy was to prevail on the judge to conclude the trial without imposing any significant sentence.

Mr. Saraki, who is currently in Geneva, is assuring those lobbying on behalf of Mr. Magu he would get the EFCC chairman “confirmed” as soon as the cabal at the Presidency sabotages all the anti-corruption cases against him and Mr. Magu promises not to go after some persons of interest to him.

Wike is indeed lucky to be alive. Obstructing an order of arrest from the federal government all because he has skeleton in his closet is suicidal. If the Dss operatives had pulled their trigger on him that day, it would be termed as accidental discharge and at worst his deputy would be sworn in as governor if he dies. No sane person will dare the federal might of any country. The police commissioner he took a long with him answers directly to the IG who is an appointee of the federal government. Just like GEJ withdrew Amaechi's security detail, Buhari can order the same for wike and heaven will not fall. Power pass power. When they loot and steal billions they all forget human rights of affected citizens and rules of law. When it's time for prosecution, they will start screaming rule of law and due process and the same nigerians who are shortchanged will be supporting the political thieves.

Sane Nigerians are behind the arrest of judges and other corrupt members of the political class. Some call buhari a dictator but if dictatorship is what is required to sanitize the system you have the support of patriotic Nigerians. Invade the home of looters, break their doors and safes with sledge hammers, brutalize them with your DSS and make them pay for short changing the state. We must sanitize the country for the upcoming generations
Nice write up.

PoliticsMary Odili Wept And Begged Judges With N5b for Wike by faaz24(op):
Sahara reporters has obtained a full list of all the Nigerian
judges facing a nationwide clampdown by the
Department of State Security (DSS).
The list, which includes two of the Supreme Court Justices
who have already been arrested, includes three Justices of
the Court of Appeal, seven Federal High Court justices and
four state High Court judges in Kano, Gombe, and Kaduna
states.
The document, which formed the basis for the clampdown
on the judges, contains a brief explanation as to why the
cleansing of the judiciary should commence with the listed
judges. "Pursuant to the current administration's drive to
fight corruption at all levels, and following public revulsion
at some section of the judiciary on acts bordering on
dishonesty, corruption, and abuse of judicial process, a
profile of some senior judicial officers alleged to be involved
in corrupt practices has been compiled", the reported
prepared by the DSS stated.
The document explains in graphic detail how Supreme Court
justices were compromised during the election petition
ruling relating to Governor Nysom Wike of Rivers state.
Although only two judges of the Supreme Court have so far
been arrested by the DSS, the documents named a full panel
of Supreme Court justices that sat to decide the Rivers state
election case.
The document stated that the Supreme Court judgement
which gave Governor Wike victory against the Court of
Appeal ruling which had reversed Governor Wike election
was delivered on January 27th, 2016 and the full judgement
further delivered on February 12th, 2016 by a panel that was
led by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Muhammad
Mahmud.
Other panel members named included Ibrahim Tanko
Muhammad, Nwali Sylvester Ngwuta, Kumai Byang Akaahs,
Kudirat Motonmori Olatokumbo kekere-kun, John Inyang
Okoro and Amiru Sanusi. Justice Kekere-Ekun delivered a
unanimous decision validating Wike's election.
The document reveals that the CJN constituted the panel on
the very day of the judgement in an attempt to frustrate
those waiting to induce members of the panel.
It also reveals that despite the strategy adopted by the Chief
Justice, the panel received monetary inducement through
Justice Mary Odili who, although a member of the Court,
was not on the panel.
Justice Odili, according to the confidential report, became
dramatic and reportedly wept before her colleagues on the
panel, saying that if Wike were not returned as governor,
she would prematurely become a widow as her husband,
Peter Odili is a former governor of the state, and Wike’s
godfather would have a heart attack.
Governor Wike has publicly acknowledged the role of the
Odilis in restoring his mandate as governor. During a
thanksgiving to mark his victory, he said that had the
election been nullified, he would not have re-contested,
claiming he was close having a heart attack as his blood
pressure was rising.
The report obtained by SaharaReporters does not say how
much each of the Supreme Court judges received. It does
state that the same amount had been offered to the
President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa,
who rejected it, saying she feared that all eyes would be on
her.
Dr. Odili on Tuesday took out an N6billion lawsuit against
APC candidate Dakuku for his statement concerning Wike’s
praise of his role in getting him a favorable legal ruling.

BY SAHARAREPORTERS, NEW YORK

The first wife of Ibrahim Uwais, a son of former Chief Justice Mohammed Uwais who was killed near Aleppo, Syria by US forces, has been detained by agents of the Department of State Security (DSS) after she and her children returned to Nigeria. Halima Ibrahim and her two children returned to Nigeria via Turkish Airlines yesterday; a security source told a correspondent of SaharaReporters. Ibrahim Uwais' second wife remains in Syria with three of her kids, the security source said. The second wife is believed to be a more radical of Ibrahim Uwais' two wives. Our source disclosed that Mrs. Halima Uwais and her children have been detained by the Department of State Security pending an investigation into their sojourn in Syria. Ibrahim Uwais secretly traveled to Syria in February 2015 to join extremist Islamist terror group, the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS). He became one of the numerous Islamist terrorists who perished when US forces targeted members of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria in fierce airstrikes. SaharaReporters learned that Ibrahim Uwais left Nigeria in 2015 after telling close family members he was headed to Turkey to explore business opportunities. He took along his two wives and five kids. However, he slipped from Turkey into Syria with his entire family and joined the burgeoning army of volunteer fighters who travel from different parts of the world to enlist with ISIS, a group whose agenda is to carve out an Islamist caliphate. Christianity EtcKaduna Bans Nigeria's Foremost Shiite Group IMN by faaz24(op): 10:16pm On Oct 07, 2016
The Kaduna State Government has issued an Order declaring the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) an unlawful society. This action is taken in the exercise of the government’s duty to preserve peace and security in the state, and to ensure that all persons and organisations are guided by lawful conduct and with due allegiance to the Nigerian state and its Constitution. The Kaduna state executive council approved the making of this order following deliberations at its meeting of Thursday, 06 October 2016.
The Order, which has been signed by the Governor, draws on powers vested by the Constitution and the laws of Kaduna State. Section 45 (1) of the Constitution categorically vests in the Governor the powers to take such measures and actions as are necessary for the promotion and protection of:
public safety, public order, public morality or public health; or
the rights and freedom of all persons in Kaduna State.
Section 97A of the Penal Code (Cap 110, Laws of Kaduna State, 1991) empowers the Governor to declare as an unlawful society any organisation whose activities are dangerous to the security and good governance of the state.
The Judicial Commission of Inquiry into the Zaria Clashes of 12-14 December 2015 found that the IMN is not a registered organisation, that it has a paramilitary wing and that its members do not recognise or respect the laws of the country and the duly constituted authorities that have the responsibility to secure and administer the country.
The Declaration Order noted that since the regrettable events in Zaria which resulted in the loss of 347 lives, the IMN “has overtly continued with unlawful processions, obstruction of public highways, unauthorized occupation of public facilities including schools without regard to the rights of other citizens and the public peace and order of the State”.
The Order noted that “these acts, if allowed to go unchecked will constitute danger to the peace, tranquillity, harmonious coexistence and good governance of Kaduna State”.
The Declaration Order, which comes into effect on Friday, 7 October 2016, provides for the prosecution of persons that may be in breach of its provisions under the laws of Kaduna State:
“Whoever manages, or is a member of the said Society under any appellation or mutation with the propensity of causing the breakdown of law and order, or operates in a manner dangerous to the good governance of the State shall, from commencement of this order, be prosecuted in accordance with the Laws of Kaduna State.”
Sections 97A and 97B of the Penal Code prescribe a penalty of imprisonment for seven years or a fine or both for any person convicted for belonging to an unlawful society.
The Kaduna State Government reaffirms its vigorous commitment to upholding the right of citizens to practice the religion of their choice. These are rights fully protected by Sections 38 and 40 of the Constitution.
Such rights to freedom of thought and worship must however be exercised in ways that do not infringe on the rights of others, and should not subject other people to distress and inconvenience.

PoliticsAPC Crisis: Oyegun Fights Back, Meets Atiku by faaz24(op): 10:21am On Oct 03, 2016
National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, has stepped up moves to save his job by reaching out to influential party members and stakeholders.
Last Sunday, September 25, National Leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, wrote him an open letter where he alleged that Odigie-Oyegun colluded with mercenary forces to forge the delegates list used for the September 3 governorship primary of the party in Ondo State.
Besides, Tinubu also accused him of subverting the decision of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) when he submitted the name of Chief Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN) to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the candidate.
Regardless, before the September 28 governorship poll in Edo State, Odigie-Oyegun told newsmen he would meet with President Muhammad Buhari on the matter.
Daily Sun, however, gathered that five days after the poll, Odigie-Oyegun is yet to meet with the President. A source in the NWC said, “the Presidency has scheduled the national chairman to meet with the President. There was definitely no meeting last week. We don’t know when the meeting between our chairman and the President will take place. We are hoping it will be this week.”
However, Odigie-Oyegun reportedly took his case to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar who is a chieftain of the party at the weekend.
Another source told Daily Sun that he “met with Atiku and presented his case. Remember that he said last week that most of what Tinubu wrote in his letter were not true. He told Atiku that everything concerning the Ondo primary was collective and that, it was not true that the NWC didn’t have input into submission of Akeredolu’s name as the party’s candidate…”
This is even as the party’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Timi Frank, wrote an open letter to the President, urging him to investigate Tinubu’s allegations if the ruling party must move forward.
In a letter addressed to President Buhari yesterday, Frank said the national chairman lacked the capacity to manage the party, noting that the former Edo State governor has not been able to resolve any crisis in the party since APC came to power.
He said: “Tinubu had in his letter published last Monday and titled, “Oyegun’s Ondo fraud: The violation of democracy in the APC,” accused the embattled national chairman of unilaterally rejecting the report and recommendations of the three-member Election Appeal Committee chaired by Mrs. Helen Bendega, which called for the cancellation of the poll that produced Rotimi Akeredolu, (SAN) and the submission of his name to INEC by Odigie-Oyegun.
Frank detailed the alleged misdeeds of the national chairman to include, poor handling of the National Assembly leadership tussle, the Bayelsa State governorship primary, among others, observing that “injustice had become the order of the day” under Odigie-Oyegun.
He appealed to President Buhari not to treat the allegation of bribery raised by Tinubu with levity.
“This allegation of bribery raised by Asiwaju Tinubu as regards the recent Ondo governorship primary should be of concern to all well-meaning party leaders and elders and should not be swept under the carpet or taken with levity. These weighty allegations should and must be properly investigated because of course, ‘there is no smoke without fire.’’
The letter addressed to President Buhari reads in part:
“Mr. President, Sir, it is with great enthusiasm and patriotism that I’ve decided to write you once again through this open letter to intimate you on the impending danger that could befall our great party and I’m optimistic that this letter will serve its urgency and purpose of reaching you and our leaders and elders of our great party.
“Mr. President, Sir, I wish to reiterate my earlier stand on this matter and I’m also elated that I’ve been vindicated in my struggle to save our party all the while, when so many thought of me as a rebel or paid apologist.
“It is therefore, no secret that I was one of the very first persons in the party who took the bull by the horns and openly raised the alarm of urgent issues which had to be addressed in order to steer the APC ship in its right course.
“Suffice to say that all my efforts to plead with the party leadership to redirect its affairs fell on deaf ears as no one took me seriously at the time. You may recall Mr. President, that the origin of this crisis began when the issue of the National Assembly leadership arose and the decision of the party at the time against party members, especially against the Senate President and Speaker of the House of Representative. I foresaw the impending cracks at the time when the party leaders ignored the injustice against these two persons and I subsequently raised viable concerns which still fell on deaf ears.
“Again, when I raised concerns against the manner in which Chief Odigie-Oyegun handled the conduct of the Bayelsa State governorship primary that produced the APC candidate, no one listened to me, and alas, the outcome of that election became a clear testament to my alleged fears.
“Subsequently, when my immediate boss, Alhaji Lai Mohammed became the Minister of Information, I was supposed to immediately fill in the gap and act in his stead as enshrined in our party constitution as the acting National Publicity Secretary of the party, but this was not to be as I was outrightly being persecuted for reasons unknown and perhaps for selfish interest.
“I was deprived from performing my duties and my duties were assigned to themselves. It is worthy to note that today, we are witnessing the same concerns and fears being expressed by one of the founding fathers of our great party, who also doubles as a national leader agreeing with my earlier call that Chief Odigie-Oyegun should resign as the National Chairman.
“Mr. President, Sir, the episode of the recent Ondo primary is just one case too many befalling the APC under the leadership of Chief Odigie-yegun and I’m therefore, challenging Chief Odigie-Oyegun to tell Nigerians if he has been able to mediate over any crisis that has been successful.
“As far as I am aware, APC under Odigie-Oyegun has not been able to resolve any crisis in the party since we became the ruling party. Chief Odigie-Oyegun has shown that he lacks the capacity to resolve all the crisis currently rocking our party in nearly all the states of the federation,” he wrote.
Besides Tinubu, Atiku also last week called for a more transparent approach in the management of the party affairs by the National Working Committee, led by Chief Odigie-Oyegun.  While faulting the rejection of the recommendations of Mrs. Helen Bendega-led three-man committee on the Ondo State primary by the APC NWC, Atiku admonished the party leadership to always be guided by respect for the rules, fairness, equity, neutrality and respect for democratic consensus.
“It was wrong for the APC to have set aside a resolution it had reached aimed at resolving the crisis in our party in Ondo State. It is a recipe for acrimony and division,” the former vice-president said then.

GoodofNaija:
It is obvious the major problem all these people have with this govt is its anti corruption posture. They want to continue their looting but PMB has not allowed them.

It is also obvious that the main problem Nigeria has is corruption. If corruption is curbed, a lot of things will start to function properly including the economy.

But they want to continue to loot and still want the economy to function.

You can imagine a senator asking for pardon for looters huh

What will be the thinking of other potential looters or even the common man/masses huh

Shame on you Dino!!!
What do you expect from a dog (Saraki's dog)
An adult with the mindset of a 12 year old, I remember listening to some kids talking about cows roaming our streets, one of the kids said if he is the governor he would order for the slaughtering of any cow roaming the streets and the meat shared.I pity our collective intelligence as a nation the day Dino made the same statement in the senate....Dino has d body of an elephant but think/talk most of the times like a goat
