Onazi was intentionally injured! Same way the Italians intentionally took out Amuneke and Amokachi at the 1994 World cup second round! It irks me when peeps disparage or belittle the Super Eagles. mostob: We lost that game because of our weak bench. Onazi got injured but there was not even an average replacement on the bench. Only God knows where we get that Ruben Gabriel from. |

Italy won the 1982 World Cup but the Brazilian team was widely regarded as the best team at the tournament and one of the best team ever at the World Cup. Same with the 1974 Dutch team! I hope this helps. Thanks isan: That's like saying a runner up is better than a champion |

This Senegalese team reminds me of our 2014 team. What a team that was!
Qualified to the second round with some nerve racking and determined performances. Gave France a game of its life and even had a goal controversially ruled out for offside! The French victory was aided by the referee and negative football.
This Senegalese team will give England a scare. Now that we have VAR unlike 2014, I do hope it will not be manipulated to favor the English.
Sarr against Tripper will be mouth watering! |

henhen! Now, you get it. Highest point is different from best performance. A team position often depends on the opposition! Best performance by any African team to date still remains Nigeria 1994 team. Shikena! Mujtahida: The highest point attained at the WC by African countries is quarter final. Naija's best is second round. Shikena |

Mujtahida: 94 is not the whole story about our world cup history na. We could have but we did not. End of story. 6 World cup outings, yet our longest run is 2nd round. If that is not consistently mediocre I don't know what to call it.
Our match against Spain was not the best match of France 98 abeg. What of Brazil vs. Holland, what of France v. Croatia or England v Argentina? Even Argentina v. Holland was epic. I watched all these matches live. If you were a Frenchman, you will say that Spain v. Nigeria was better than the final between Brazil and France? Haba Haba, I am a die hard Super Eagles fan but I do not see the team and our history through rose tinted glasses. Do not twist the topic, here. I do believe the argument here, is our World Cup performances relative to other African countries. My argument is based on that. Compared to other African nation our performances are no where near consistently poor and mediocre! |

Sarr is playing like someone possessed. He is everywhere! Watford don tire him! AndSunGorilla: Really Senegal should have won against Holland, they showed too much respect to the dutch. But anyway, I hope they don't go defensive now. They can beat this Ecuador side 4-0 if they don't go conservative. |

Mujtahida: I'm gobsmacked. In 98 we were eliminated by Denmark who did not go beyond the quarter finals after being beaten by Brazil. In 2002, we did not go beyond the first round. In 2010, we did not make it beyond the first round. In 2014, we were eliminated in the second round by France who in turn were ousted in the quarter final. In 2018, we did not make it beyond the first round. So how can you boldly make such a claim at the bolded when it only happened once in 1994? It appears that you look at our world cup history with fantastic eyes ooo. Our outings are mediocre and consistently poor! I meant 1994 and 1998. 1994 (The Italians that eliminated us through rugby football and a last minute equalizer only lost the finals on penalties). We could have won the World cup that year. 1998 (The Brazilians that got to the final were lucky to defeat that same Denmark in one of the best game of the tournament). Our game against Spain still remains the best game at that tournament. Consistently poor and mediocre? lol! Only someone that watched replay or highlight will call SE 1994 World cup performance mediocre! |

Ogochuks101: Not all that matters but if outsiders are asked to mention the best world cup performance by an African team. Most would pick Ghana(2010), Senegal (2002), Cameroon (1990) before thinking of the super eagles. Stop mixing things up. Getting to the Quarter final is quite different from having the best performance. Football is not schooling. You can have the best performance yet lose while you can play rugby and negative Football to win. Understood! Many Commentators across different countries will tell you that the best performance by any African team is by Nigeria at 1994 World Cup. Did you listen to African commentators during this World Cup? None of them even mentioned Cameroon 1990 as one of the best African performances. All mentioned Nigeria's 1994 and 1998. |

Ogochuks101: Yea no African team like the 94 team. But at the end of the day result is all that matters. The 94 squad couldn't make it past round of 16. And no African team has won the world cup yet. Winning the trophy is all that matters right? |

Kog45: Cameroon Italian 90 team remain the best, beating Argentina the defending Champion though Senegal made simiar feat in 2002 WC against France and mind you i also rate Cameroon Espana 82 team cos they didn't lose a single match. The best cause they beat Argentina playing rugby football and back pass. Their style of play caused FIFA to change the back pass rule till date. No African team like the 1994 Nigerian team. 5th best in the world! |

Mujtahida: If it is Nigeria that made the quarter final berth, you won't call it inconsequential. Nigeria doesn't glorify mediocrity. Cup or nothing. No African team can still be compared to our 1994 and 1998 teams. The team that eliminated us either gets to the finals or win the cup. |

How many did the Ghanaians beat us? They were just lucky and it happens sometimes. Their goal keeper made two to three crucial saves while ours fumbled at the crucial moment. Nothing do or die about their game. Infact, I am dissapointed at their negative football. How can you allow that much crosses and corner kicks into your 18? How can you allow the Koreans to play you like that? Against a team like Uruguay they would get punished. I know the coach would revert to 5 at the back against Uruguay. Pure negative football. PurpleHouse: We get players, just that they're not matured. Too much big man "I Don arrive" mentality. That's the problem. In our WC qualifier, only Osimhen was running riots, the rest were strolling like abeg e nor concern us. But you see the Ghanaians, everytime they play, they play like it's do or die. Until we have that same mindset, we go nowhere.
One of the African team in this WC will win the next afcon. Unless we shake up our team. We have no chance. |

It could have easily been 3 nil to Ghana. Only God knows how that last corner kick hit Partey on the shoulder and over the bar. Football is about being clinical and tactical. I do not see any way back for the Koreans. Ghana could easily walk away with 4 nil in 90 minutes. Kudos to the Black Stars. |

Mujtahida: And comparatively speaking Japan, Morocco, Brazil, Argentina have better leagues than Nigeria yet they rely on their players plying their football in the best leagues. Yet some people here argue for players from our decrepit local league to willy nilly be included in the team. Like I said naija made a switch since 1994, but some want to turn the hands of time. Fantastic observations! Moroccans clubs won both the CAF club competitions yet went for foreign born and based players. |
