Education › Re: Why Do Smart People Tend To Be Quiet? (True or false) by faceland: 10:47pm On Oct 17, 2022*. Modified: 11:02pm On Oct 17, 2022 |
aboyaji: It's because they realize early in life that being too smart becomes a social obstacle so they downplay their intelligence to fit in. Gifted children are known to struggle socially in their teens due to this.
Smart people will often develop a habit of picking their battles because if they contribute to every conversation outshining everyone else with their intelligence, they are quickly seen as uppity and a know it all. For many smart people, it's hard to say anything at all without coming off as reminding everyone else of the disparity in intelligence. I believe there's some research that does show that being mentally superior is a social liability in a way that being physically superior is not. In other words, it's easier to be an athlete around non-athletes than it is to be a brainiac around non-brainiacs. Someone being too intelligent is instinctually felt as intimidating and stuck up.
For some smart people, they can't really hide their intelligence very well. It's built into how they speak. The way they structure their sentences. The cadence they use. Their vocabulary. In those cases, a smart person might choose to listen more and talk less so their intelligence is not dominating the social circle. So their intelligence isn't an elephant in the room.
Source: Quora There was a brief time I was serous in secondary school. One day, I discover that by alway answering the teacher's questions in math class, my classmates were falling behind (couldn't catch up). So I stopped answering questions. The first day I refused to answer question, my math teacher (who saw me as a favorite) was so upset that he even beat me for claiming I didn't know the answer (frustration), he also realised that a lot of student in the class have fallen behind as he bombarded us with homework/assignments (he started giving us 15 to 20 problems to solve at home after every class... you could hear the whole class 'lamenting'). |

OsunOriginal: It's not taxing the west. It is getting them to extend support to us the same way they do to others. I see you point (it's a short clips so I don't know what he was talking about previously if there was inequality in the support they rendered). I am just saying we are all in this together and we should take responsibility to give those that are yet unborn a habitable earth. I hope the standard of our living improve because we not suppose to be burning fire wood to cook in 2022 (except when camping). I think millions of household still do (may God help this country). |

It is not a curse, things are getting worst.
I think many good Nigerians (not the criminals), would be influential and parotic people in their new country. |

He has a point but his parable is pointless. For example, due to the Russian gas supply problem, many European countries has resulted to burning fire wood to stay warm during the coming winter, so condition can make someone not to care about the environment.
Protecting the environment should be a collective mission for us, we don't need to tax the west for it... |

Why the whole North. Implying that due to Obi's actions, all his people are uncivilized? You can't arrest him unlawfully you idiot midget. |

ukaface: There are some countries I won't even try to consider going to. India for example. Why India? Despite Nigeria being and underdeveloed country and India is a "developng" country, Nigeria is far better to live in than that shithole where they worship cows and the second rape capital of the world (where 10 strangers that don't know each other would just decide to rape a woman on the bus, in broad daylight, something that no matter how bad Nigeria is, it can never happen here). |

If not for tribalism (that wouldn't allow us to progress faster), we could have boycotted the xenophobic India and South Africa by producing out drugs and goods here. |

If they express extreme views that goes against logical reasoning, they think that proves loyalty to whatever group they want to appeal to. An example is Osibanjo claiming he would build on the good legacy of Buhari. What fucking good legacy? |

CSTRR: Nigerian youths are up-skilling in tech, not because they want to earn a living in Nigeria, but because they want to ultimately Japa, including me. That should be an emergency for the people in govt.
Anyway, that is not my business.
There are people that are paid huge salaries to find solutions to such problems. They are instead busy looting the country dry. We have more than enough Nigerian youths and millions more to come yearly. They should allow those that want to leave to leave instead of crushing theeir spirit here. If the make it, they would still send money back here. |
