PoliticsAPC Benue Guber Candidate Jime Was Indicated By Senate Over N205 Million Fraud - by fahren(op): 9:38am On Jan 29, 2019
JIME SHOULD RESPOND TO HIS INDICTMENT BY SENATE OVER FRAUD - AKASE

By David Mzer

Chief Press Secretary to Benue State Governor, Mr Terver Akase says the governorship candidate of All Progressives Congress, APC in the state, Emmanuel Jime lacks the moral ground to criticize his principal on issues relating to governance and private investments.

Mr Akase stated this while reacting to statements credited to the APC candidate who accused Governor Ortom of running his private business at the expense of the state.

He challenged Mr Jime to explain the source of funds he used in establishing an expansive farm in Gwagwalada area of Abuja which is estimated to cost over five hundred million naira.

Mr Akase said Jime is yet to clear himself of his indictment by the Senate Committee on Trade and Investment which uncovered N205 million fraud in Export Processing Zones Authority, NEPZA budget of 2018.

"A man who stands indicted by a committee of the highest legislative chamber in the country over fraud lacks the moral ground and integrity to accuse another man. It is over a year since the Senate Committee on Trade and Investment uncovered padding and other fraudulent issues in the NEPZA budget of 2018 under Jime but we have not read anywhere that he extricated himself from the accusations. If this country were not under a government that protects its appointees who loot public funds, Jime would have been answering questions from EFCC by now", he stated.

The Governor's Chief Press Secretary described as ridiculous, Emmanuel Jime's desperation to be governor which has led him to deceive traditional rulers in Benue State that he acquired plots of land for them while he served as Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on FCT.

He questioned why it took Jime four years after he left the National Assembly only to inform the royal fathers about the said plots of land now that he is vying for governorship of the state.

Mr Akase pointed out that the APC candidate ought to get busy trying to convince people on the allegation that he is being sponsored by enemies of the state to repeal the Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law, if elected, so that herdsmen could have unhindered access to land for their livestock.

He said the fact that Jime has chosen to make Governor Ortom the subject of his campaign message indicates that the APC flag bearer has nothing to offer the people of Benue State.

According to him, records exist to show that Governor Ortom accessed a Central Bank facility with which he funded Oracle Business Limited long before he became Governor, stressing that Jime ought to have done his homework properly before making the allegation.

Mr Akase dismissed Jime's allegation as comments of an embattled candidate who is apparently up against the popular will of the people and wants to drag his opponents to a war of words.

How can our leaders be celebrating corruption publicly like this?
In sane climes, Buba Galadima would be barred from holding any Political office if not arrested.

PoliticsPython Dance 3 Unnecessary, Benue Group Tells Federal Government by fahren(op): 12:05pm On Jan 02, 2019
OPERATION PYTHON DANCE 3 UNNECESSARY, BENUE GROUP TELLS FG

A group under the aegis of MINDA Strategic Contact Group (MSCG) has said that the planned Operation Python Dance III would not have been necessary if Nigerians, irrespective of tribe, religion or political affiliation spoke with one voice against criminality.

“If we speak together as one voice in this country, we don’t need Operation Python Dance 111. Python dance is depleting the energy that should be put into fighting insurgency in the North East. As we remember the ugliness of January 2018, we must all rise up to resist its re occurrence anywhere in this country.”

The group while expressing concern over the sudden influx of large number of herdsmen into Benue State, described the development as a design to breach the peace and instigate the postponement of the 2019 general elections in Benue State and call for the declaration of a state of emergency in the state.

In a statement titled “To Remember is to Resist: Benue on the Eve of 2019,” the group recalled the gruesome murder of 73 Benue indigenes by herdsmen exactly one year ago as well as several other killings including that of the two Catholic priests and 17 parishioners in Mbalom.

“As we approach the eve of 2019, Benue State is in sober mood and a state of fear. The event of 1st January 2018 and several other ugly events that followed thereafter will remain unforgettable in the minds of our people, our government and the entire world. This press conference is necessitated by the philosophy that to remember is to resist.”

Reading the statement, co-chairman of the group, Prof. Tor Iorapuu, raised the alarm over the rising spate of killings allegedly linked to herdsmen in Guma, Makurdi, Logo and Ukum local government areas of the state and urged both the Federal government and security agencies to nip it in the bud.

“As we approach the eve of 2019, instances of similar patterns of killings have reportedly occurred in Guma, Makurdi, Logo and Ukum local government areas of Benue State.

“Only one week ago, law enforcement officers were reported to have arrested one herdsman with 105 herds of cattle openly grazing in the heart of Makurdi, the Benue State capital, in flagrant violation of the Anti Open-Grazing law of the state, 2017.”

The group noted that in spite of the assurances given by the military that the people had started returning to their ancestral homes, the IDP camps were still filled up with many Benue indigenes who could still not return home.

They also faulted the utterances of certain political elites within and outside the state regarding the attacks on the people of Benue, stressing that such utterances aimed at securing political capital and undermining the cultural sensibilities of the people were unfortunate.

“This behavior is suspicious and has the potential to damage the efforts of the state government, the church, security agencies, traditional councils, civil society organisations, international agencies and well-meaning citizens at ensuring that relative peace is achieved. Such public comments could be perceived as instigative and vexatious.

“It is on account of these concerns that we are calling on all the good people of Benue, the government of Benue State, the Federal Government of Nigeria, all security agencies and the international community to note that to remember is to resist. That as we remember the ugly killings and existing provocative statements, we put the world on notice to resist its recurrence in 2019 going forward.”

BENUE: FIRE GUTS POPULAR WADATA MARKET IN MAKURDI - HERSMEN FINGERED

The popular Wadata Market in Makurdi, Benue State has been razed by fire, with goods worth millions of naira destroyed in the fire that started at about 2am Wednesday morning.

Men of the Benue State Fire Service responded swiftly to the fire incidence, and were later joined by the Rapid Reaction Squad led by Sergeant Timothy Okoro from 101 Air force Fire Unit,Makurdi.

At the moment, the fire has been under control, 80% of the market is burnt, with traders counting their loses.

The fire started from the Abbatoir section of the market occupied mostly by herders, preliminary findings shows that herdsmen may have been responsible because of suspicious activities around the market in the last few days and surprisingly the herders are suddenly nowhere to be found even for comments and assessments.

This is coming two days after suspected Fulani herdsmen set fire on Governor Samuel Ortom's 250 hectares rife farm worth over 100 million naira.
