The Biography Of Late Olubuse I

I . Alayeluwa Oba Okunade Sijuwade, or Sijuade, (1 January 1930 – 28 July 2015) became the fiftieth traditional ruler or Ooni of Ife in 1980, taking the regnal name Olubuse II. Ife is a traditional Yoruba state based in the town of Ife in Osun State, Nigeria. He was crowned on 6 December 1980 in a ceremony attended by the Emir of Kano, Oba of Benin, Amayanabo of Opobo and Olu of Warri, as well as by representatives of the Queen of England. . Background . Sijuwade was born on 1 January 1930 in Ile-Ife to the Ogboru ruling house, grandson of the Ooni Sijuwade Adelekan Olubuse I. Prince Okunade Sijuwade as he was then called, started his elementary education at Igbein school, Abeokuta, an institution owned by the CMS mission. He lived with his other brother under the care of their father’s good friend Chief G. A. Adedayo and his family. Chief Adebayo was the secretary to the Egba council, under the Asoju Oba. After his elementary school education he proceeded to Abeokuta Grammar school, under the well-known educationist, The Rev. I. O. Ransome Kuti who was the principal of the school. Early in life, Prince Okunade Sijuwade was conscious of his royal birth, and his carriage, even in school, was of one who was destined to wear the crown. Once, at Abeokuta Grammar school, the Reverend Ransome Kuti wanted to flog the young Sijuwade for some misdemeanour. As the principal raised his whip, the young prince dared the famous disciplinarian to hit a ‘king’. This did not of course stop Reverend Kuti from meting out what he considered appropriate punishment to the erring young man who was nonetheless satisfied that he has made his point. He left Abeokuta Grammar school after five years and got transferred to Oduduwa college in Ile-Ife to complete his studies under the Reverend S. A. Adeyefa. On his first day at school, mistaken for one of the new teachers and in no hurry to correct the impression, young Sijuwade took over the class in which he was supposed to be a student. In spite of his royal posturing and youthful pranks, Prince Sijuwade is remembered by many of his classmates as a particularly diligent student and quite mature for his age . Because of his relative access to money the prince was able to acquire many good things of life, especially clothes. He was a trend setter in school. He was one of the few students in Oduduwa college, who were familiar with the life in Lagos at that time, as today, the centre of good life in Nigeria. . Political activities . When Sijuwade became Ooni of Ife in December 1980 he inherited an ongoing dispute over supremacy between the obas of Yorubaland. In 1967 a crisis had been resolved when Chief Obafemi Awolowo was chosen as the leader of the Yoruba. In 1976 the Governor of Oyo State, General David Jemibewon, had decreed that the Ooni of Ife would be the permanent chairman of the State Council of Obas and Chiefs. Other Obas led by the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi said the position should rotate. The dispute calmed down when Osun State was carved out of Oyo State in August 1991, but ill will persisted. In January 2009 Sijuwade was quoted as saying that Oba Adeyemi was ruling a dead empire (the Oyo Empire, which collapsed in 1793). Adeyemi responded by citing "absurdities" in Sijuwade's statements and saying the Ooni "is not in tune with his own history". Adeyemi, Permanent Chairman of the Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs, was conspicuously absent from a meeting of Yoruba leaders in April 2010. . Towards the end of 2009 a more local dispute between the Ooni, the Awujale of Ijebuland and the Alake of Egbaland was finally resolved. Sijuwade traced the dispute back to a falling out between Obafemi Awolowo and Ladoke Akintola during the Nigerian First Republic, which had led to a division between the traditional rulers. He noted that the traditional rulers were an important unifying force in the country during the illness of President Umaru Yar'Adua. In February 2009, Sijuwade helped mediate in a dispute over land ownership between the communities of Ife and Modakeke, resolved in part through the elevation of the Ogunsua of Modakeke as an Oba.[10] The new Oba, Francis Adedoyin, would be under the headship of Sijuwade.[11] Oba Okunade Sijuwade died on July 28th, 2015, after a brief illness at the ripe age of 85 years. Islam has got no chance without sword! I pity those who are defending it in Nigeria. They should go and ask their forebear who first converted, they will be shocked that at least 90%;of them succumbed to the blazing sword of uthman dan fodio |

There is no shaking. The last time I heard from gej guys on this platform they insisted gej belonged to the SOUTH EAST because SOUTH-SOUTH belongs to tthe GREATER EAST. Methink PMB/APC and even the post-gej PDP is seeing it the same way( is it not strange thatt unranked Akpabio defeated many ranked s/Easterners to clinch minority leader). I thought some guys were praising PMB when it was clear to them that Yoruba have entered'one chance'. Why has it turned to blame now that it is BEING seemed they themselves are inside the 'one chance' locomotive? |

Don’t underrate Tinubu, Momoh warns PDP “That is why we can never underrate Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the success that we achieved in the 2015 election that produced this government. Tinubu is an excellent crowd mobilizer, He is a very highly proactive and He is an exceptionally digital politician. He was the one who knew how he wooed the five governors of the New PDP and brought them into the APC. You cannot underrate Tinubu’s contribution to the success of the emergence of this government. I only pity the PDP who are thinking that the so called crisis in the National Assembly is to their favour. There is no problem with what happened in the Senate and House of Representatives because we cannot say because Saraki emerged as Senate President that he is PDP or that because Dogara emerged as Speaker of the House he is a PDP person.” – Prince Tony Momoh, 76, is a Nigerian journalist, politician and Minister of Information and Culture (1986–1990) |
kenedy175:This Tinubu sha. Gej and PDP concentrated the past years to probe him in and out of Nigeria but all na zero. If what all your ogas at the top failed to achieve in order to put their 'nightmare'- Tinubu in the coffin failed, forget PMB has gotten no bitter and focus-less mind like that. Nigeria and Nigerians are the priority-reasons for the probing |
chymystique: "With no ministers and no project flag off since its govt inception" You wailed. Can you show me what your mentor(s) who has appointed under a month has achieved SPECIFICALLY that you think has/have not been achieved or would have been achieved by this government? Do not tell me about salaries and allowances that wold have gone to the ministers or the likely racketeering that would have been on if they have been appointed. If you and your CO-WAILERS refuse to state SPECIFICALLY what your past mentors have achieved with their 'ministers' under two months; KEEP SHUT FOREVER AND GO BACK TO YOUR WAILING VILLAGE- West, South, East, North or whatever |

kodded:You forgot to add that Tinubu established ALL the baby factories. He sells the babies to make more money to advance his political empire. You also forgot that Tinubu just impregnated Bianca and that is making great Ojukwu to want to come back for serious vengeance. You did not mention that Tinubu killed Adedibu so that he can step into Olubadan dynasty. You failed to tell us that Groundnut pyramid in the North were destroyed by Tinubu while Ahmadu Bello was sleeping. And that the market that was shut by Gov Mimiko was because Tinubu joined PDP. Shior! |
If read through some responses on this thread (I haven't read one and I know I am not going to be wrong at the end of the day), they will down-play this serious news, saying SH has come again. They never said anything when SH carries 'negative' news about PMB, BAT and those that have disappointed their myopism. Let Greedluck vomit ALL trillions of Naira he and his vampires looted. There is is great need to attend to children being trafficked in Bayelsa, a lot of my people are roaming selling on the express-ways, North is filled with refugees, south west filled with area boys. We need this money or else......... Na jail o! |
