Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu attends the weekly cabinet meeting in the prime minister's office in Jerusalem, March 19, 2023. (File photo: Reuters) Israel eying future link to Saudi Arabia with $27 billion national rail project Reuters Published: 30 July ,2023: 12:27 PM GST Updated: 30 July ,2023: 01:42 PM GST Israel will build a 100 billion shekel ($27 billion) rail expansion that will connect its outlying areas to metropolitan Tel Aviv and, in the future, could provide overland links to Saudi Arabia, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Sunday. The announcement followed a trip by top US officials to Saudi Arabia last week to advance a possible forging of formal relations between the Muslim powerhouse and Israel A senior Israeli lawmaker said that any forging of relations with Saudi Arabia did not appear imminent, despite US President Joe Biden prediction last week of a possible rapprochement between the Middle East powers. “I think it's too early to talk about a deal being in the works,” Yuli Edelstein, head of the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee and a senior member of Netanyahu’s Likud party, told Israel’s Army Radio. Opening the weekly Israeli cabinet meeting, Netanyahu appeared to sidestep the constitutional crisis that has roiled the country for seven months, denting its economy and shaking Western allies’ confidence in its democratic health. For all the latest headlines follow our Google News channel online or via the app. Instead, he promoted infrastructure initiatives including the “One Israel Project,” which he described as designed to reduce travel time by train to the country’s business and government centres to two hours or less. “I would like to add that in the future we will also be able to transport cargo by rail from Eilat to our Mediterranean and will also be able to link Israel by train to Saudi Arabia and the Arabian peninsula,” he said in televised remarks. “On this, too, we are working.” Read more: © Copyright. Lagos Governor, Sanwo-Olu Appointed Eight Muslims Among 39 Commissioners After We Gave Him Massive Votes – Islamic Group, MURIC July 29, 2023 NEWS Sanwo-Olu had transmitted 39 names for screening and confirmation as Commissioners and Special Advisers designated to the State’s House of Assembly. The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), an Islamic group, has stated that the list of commissioners unveiled by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State failed to pass inclusivity and integrity tests. Sanwo-Olu had transmitted 39 names for screening and confirmation as Commissioners and Special Advisers designated to the State’s House of Assembly. According to a tweet on Friday by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Gboyega Akosile, 30 per cent of the commissioner-nominees are women, while others are youths, technocrats and politicians. Some members of the governor’s cabinet during his first term in office made the list, while a number of others did not. However, the Executive Director of MURIC, Professor Ishaq Akintola in a statement on Saturday said only 8 of the nominees were verifiable Muslims. He added that MURIC found it difficult to understand why a cabinet composition should be weaponised by the Lagos State Government (LASG) against Muslims. Akintola who explained that it is a betrayal of trust, said Lagos Muslims voted en masse for Sanwo-Olu, noting that MURIC in particular came out openly to support his second term and persuaded fellow Muslims to drop their opposition to the governor. He said; “The Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, yesterday unveiled the list of commissioners for the state. The list contained 39 names. “But to our surprise, only 8 of the nominees are verifiable Muslims. We find it difficult to understand why cabinet composition should be weaponised by the Lagos State Government (LASG) against Muslims. Ratio 31:8 fails inclusivity test. It also fails integrity test. What percentage is 8 out of 39? What is the rationale for coming out with this atrocious ratio? “This is exactly what we have been saying about the political marginalisation of Muslims in the South-West. It is a disease of the eyes, not of the nose. It needs no smelling. We can all see and read the list. It is all over the internet. Muslims groups all over the South West are expressing dissatisfaction with the development. “We strongly denounce this deliberate and illegal attempt to deprive Muslims of opportunities to partake in the governance of their environment. “It is illegal because Section 14(4) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria stipulates that ‘The composition of the Government of the Federation, a State, a local government council, or any of the agencies of such Government or council, and the conduct of the affairs of the Government or council or such agencies shall be carried out in such manner as to recognise the diversity of the people within its area of authority and the need to promote a sense of belonging and loyalty among all the people of the Federation." “Sanwo-Olu’s proposed cabinet is therefore illegal, illegitimate, unlawful and unconstitutional to the extent that it failed to be fair to the teeming Muslim population in the state. It will remain so until he reviews it and makes the list inclusive. Lagos Muslims have been rubbished by this list. It is a dirty slap in the face. This list is disgusting, repulsive and therefore unacceptable. “It is a betrayal of trust because Lagos Muslims voted en masse for Sanwo-Olu. MURIC in particular came out openly to support his second term and we persuaded fellow Muslims to drop their opposition to the governor. But imagine this! “We are sending a note of warning to all political parties in the state. 2027 will not be business as usual. Don’t come to lobby us for votes if your candidate is not a Muslim. It is the turn of Muslims in 2027 and we will vote massively for any party that picks a Muslim as its gubernatorial flag bearer. “MURIC has no political tabula rasa. We are open to all parties. The welfare of Nigerian Muslims is our major interest. We will not hide that. Neither do we owe anyone any apology for it.” https://saharareporters.com/2023/07/29/lagos-governor-sanwo-olu-appointed-eight-muslims-among-39-commissioners-after-we-gave |
OSINBAJO FLAGS OFF NEW ORGANISATION “FUTURE PERSPECTIVES” *Says with education, challenges facing developing countries can be addressed **Former VP’s initiative partners with UNESCO on interactive dialogue With the right education for young people, a myriad of challenges facing developing countries can be tackled. This was the submission of the immediate past Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, GCON, yesterday at a virtual interactive dialogue themed “EdTech for Transforming Education in Nigeria,” the first public event of Future Perspectives co-founded by him. In fact, the virtual dialogue was a collaboration between Future Perspectives (an initiative of the immediate past Vice President and some of his young partners) and UNESCO International Institute for Higher Education in Latin America and the Caribbean (IESALC) to support the capacity-building component of the United Nations Global Youth Initiative in equipping young people with necessary skills for transformative education. Six youth education innovators and stakeholders from different backgrounds and levels of engagement in EdTech, such as practitioners, creators, advocates, and policymakers were members of the virtual panel discussion that explored the challenges faced within the Nigerian educational ecosystem. Speakers indicated some of the solutions they have applied to scale-up their innovations. While giving the keynote remarks, Prof. Osinbajo noted that “if there were a single issue that could address problems of poverty, joblessness, inequality, and even better health outcomes, especially in developing countries today, it would most likely be education.” He explained that at Future Perspectives, education is the “cornerstone of our organization’s work, as we recognize its profound impact on social change and youth empowerment. “Our mission aligns perfectly with the aspirations of the high-level UN Transforming Education Summit, a crucial global summit held in September last year which responded urgently to the global education crises and placed education at the forefront of the global agenda.” Acknowledging the important role young people play across the world, the former VP made the point that “no matter the resources available or the great ideas we have, very little of the change we desire can be accomplished without young people stepping up to their roles as catalysts and innovators of change. “This is why Future Perspectives, the organization itself, is established to drive transformative change in Africa, through the power and potential of the African Youth.” The panellists at the virtual dialogue were Rachel Onoja, Head of Operations at AltSchool Africa and TalentQL; Afeez Saka, Founder of Community Tech Lab; Victoria Ibiwoye, Founder of One African Child Foundation; Oluwaseun Kayode, Founder/CEO of Schoolinka; Joy Ogbonna, Founder of Kareer Day and Julius Ilori, Founder of Learner’s Corner. Guest speakers who provided their own insights were Mrs Folashade Adefisayo, Immediate Past Commissioner of Education in Lagos State; Lanre Ogundipe, CEO of Imperial EdTech; Oyedayo Otokiti, CIO of Lagos Business School; Karimot Odebode, Founder of Black Girl’s Dream Initiative; and Rasheedat Sadiq, 1MT (3rd DAN). The dialogue featured representatives of UNESCO IESALC: Ms. Bosen Lily Liu (Lead on Young People Transforming Education, UNESCO/IESALC), Ms Giulia Ribeiro Barao, education stakeholders, tech advocates, members of the diplomatic community, and the Executive Director of Future Perspectives, Mrs. Abby Asekun, (who gave the opening remarks). The event was moderated by Olanrewaju Oniyitan, whose Foundation provides holistic solutions to helping schools serving children from low-income families build lasting pathways to quality education. Below are Prof. Osinbajo’s full remarks: SPEECH BY HIS EXCELLENCY, PROF. YEMI OSINBAJO, SAN, GCON, THE IMMEDIATE PAST VICE PRESIDENT OF NIGERIA AT THE VIRTUAL DIALOGUE EDTECH FOR TRANSFORMING EDUCATION IN NIGERIA ORGANISED BY UNESCO AND IN COLLABORATION WITH FUTURE PERSPECTIVES ON THE 27TH OF JULY, 2023 Good afternoon, distinguished guests, it is a real pleasure to be here at this important dialogue on EdTech for Transforming Education in Nigeria. Future Perspectives is a new organization and perhaps a new type of organization. And although I am said to be the founding Chairman, I am actually a co-founder alongside some very young people including Abimbola Asekun who just introduced me. The point really is that all across the world it is becoming evident that no matter the resources available or the great ideas we have, very little of the change we desire can be accomplished without young people stepping up to their roles as catalysts and innovators of change. This is why Future Perspectives, the organization itself, is established to drive transformative change in Africa, through the power and potential of the African Youth. Our belief at Future Perspectives is that Africa’s young voices will not only be at the fore of shaping crucial global conversation but also a driving force to some of the most pressing challenges facing our continent. We will be hearing from some of these brilliant young innovators during our conversations today. Today the conversation is about education. Education is the cornerstone of our work at Future Perspectives. If there were a single issue that could address problems of poverty, joblessness, inequality, and even better health outcomes, especially in developing countries today, it would most likely be education. Education stands as a cornerstone of our organization’s work, as we recognize its profound impact on social change and youth empowerment. Our mission aligns perfectly with the aspirations of the high-level UN Transforming Education Summit, a crucial global summit held in September last year which responded urgently to the global education crises and placed education at the forefront of the global agenda. A key achievement stemming from the Summit is the United Nations Global Youth Initiative (GYI). The Global Youth Initiative is the first multi-stakeholder, global initiative to enable young people to engage and take leadership in education policymaking. For, perhaps, the first time ever, young people are beginning to participate, become leaders in education policy-making, and in effect, own educational policies and become architects of their own educational journeys. And we at Future Perspectives are proud to be key partners in this ground-breaking global initiative dedicated to ensuring meaningful youth engagement and leadership in education policymaking, empowering young minds to become architects of their educational journey. I am particularly delighted about our collaboration with UNESCO IESALC, which leads the capacity-building component of GYI, to co-launch the “Innovation to Transform Education Training (ITET)” in Nigeria later this year. So Future Perspectives in partnership with UNESCO IESALC, will work towards strengthening the capacity of youth and students, especially the most marginalized, to enable them to become agents of change in transforming education in their specific national contexts through the “Innovation to Transform Education Training (ITET). This will involve equipping young education innovators with the essential skills of innovation, policy and project implementation. These skills will be essential in supporting their initiatives to engage meaningfully in educational practices and decision-making. With the large numbers of out-of-school children in Nigeria, the significance of this global initiative launching in Africa cannot be overstated. And today, our dialogue on “EdTech for Transforming Education” is poised to be an eye-opening experience. We anticipate that this discussion will help contextualize the specific skills that our young EdTech innovators require to revolutionize education in Africa. I am thrilled to be kicking off the UN Capacity Building Project through this dialogue, where we will have the privilege to hear directly from these young innovators. We will learn about their challenges and solutions and witness their tremendous impact on society. I look forward to hearing from these remarkable young innovators and other education stakeholders and I extend my best wishes for a day filled with inspiration and insights. Thank you for joining us for this important occasion. More... Lagosians are treated like trash. Where is Fashola that personally made sure constructions are done to time and quality? Where is Ambode, the enigma? Roads are made to be worse than they were. In dry seasom, dust are made to kill the infants, the aged the infirmed. Rainy season is a nightmare

No one can confidently say that Governor Sanwo-Olu, the governor of Lagos state was around when. Governors Tinubu, Fashola and Ambode held sway. His own style of road construction has defied logic. From. Isawo-Agric road, Igbogbo - Bayeku axis roads Demuren (ketu) roads and many more, one could point out one thing: GROSS INEFFICIENCY, INDIFFERENCE TO PLIGHT OF THE MASSES, WASTAGE AND GRAND CORRUPTION. Roads meant to be fixed for certain speculated period are alarmingly left to lay uncompleted for as long as TIMES FIVE of the period. Demuren toad was billed to be completed just for slightly above a year is just 30%done after about four years. Agric - Isawo Road that should be constructed for almost the same period is 7 years and less than 35% completion. One should not even talk about roads in Bayeku Igbogbo axis. Pẹople are left to suffer. Resources are seen clearly been wasted. Many Contractors mobilized are clearly incapable. Below are the glimpse of what Agric Ikorodu people pass through everyday. These pictures were taken yesterday. KINDLY POST THE SITUATIONS IN YOUR LOCATIONS TO DRIVE HOME THIS COMPLAINT
