Andela valued at $1.5B, announces $200M Series E Funding

The Series E financing values the global engineering network at $1.5 billion

Andela, the global network for remote engineering talent, today announced $200 million in Series E financing that values the company at $1.5 billion.

The round was led by Softbank Vision Fund 2* with participation from new investor Whale Rock and existing investors including Generation Investment Management, Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, and Spark Capital.

Lydia Jett, Founding Partner at SoftBank Investment Advisers and one of the most respected consumer technology investors in the world, will join Andela’s Board of Directors.

Andela helps companies build remote engineering teams by providing them with access to the best software engineers in the world.

Launched in Africa in 2014, the Andela network today represents engineers from more than 80 countries and six continents.

Through Andela, thousands of engineers have been placed with leading technology companies including Github, Cloudflare and ViacomCBS.

Jeremy Johnson, CEO and co-founder of Andela, commented:

“Andela has always been the high-quality option for those building remote engineering teams. Now that the world has come to embrace remote work, Andela has become the obvious choice for companies because we can find better talent, faster.

“If you are a talented engineer, Andela opens up a world of possibilities for you, no matter where you are based.”

With a successful placement rate of 96%, Andela has mastered the ability to evaluate the technical skills and soft skills of engineers to match them to the teams they’ll be most successful in.

With the new capital, the company will invest in developing products to simplify global hiring and make engineers’ lives easier.

In addition, Andela will continue to expand its talent offering beyond software development to include new verticals such as design and data after launching Salesforce development earlier this year.

Also speaking, Lydia Jett, Partner at SoftBank Investment Advisers:

“Hiring remote technical talent is one of the top challenges that companies face today. We believe Andela will become the preferred talent partner for the world’s best companies as remote and hybrid work arrangements become the norm,
We are delighted to support Jeremy and the Andela team in their mission to connect these companies with brilliant engineers, and in the process, unlock human potential at scale.”

Adding her thoughts, Agnes Muthoni,

Director of the Andela Learning Community at Andela: “This new round of funding enables Andela to strengthen our already extensive network of incredible talent in Africa and across the world, as we systematically connect the best software engineers with global opportunities.
Being backed by a diverse group of renowned and experienced investors is a testament to the growing importance of remote work, and how Andela is at the forefront of helping companies scale their engineering teams at a rapid pace”

A fully remote organization with more than 300 employees around the world, Andela is hiring top talent across the board, particularly in Product, Engineering, and Growth.

June food basket inflation plateau

Headline inflation for the month of June increase by 0.05% from the month of May while this trend can also been seen in the food basket index

AGRIC PRODUCE OVERVIEW

Research as shown that we are very happy people as a nation, also historic data shows that a rise does not always follow with a fall, at least there is a constant in between this or an oscillation which can be seen as no movement because of no significant change or a plateau.

Many speculated that there will be increase after minimum wage implementation, but the implementation was necessary even then, but high inflation now become inevitable with the global pandemic. But really the issue just compounded not a new issue with hike, market instability, devaluation and inflation.

Other economy’s suffer this too, but not at an astronomic level like ours. In summary, would this food crisis and height be over soon, research takes me to give a look at the Nigeria exchange rate and inflation over time with interest at the previous global economy crisis (2001, 2008) sadly as a very optimistic nation this data turns out to take at least 5yrs before a correction to single digit. But with a picking up since 2016 it has double peaked, coupled with the pandemic this might be a long run. As the exchange rate show a plateau just below the peaks in the data.

AgricultureFood Loss And Food Waste: A Visible Enemy To Food Security In Africa by farmsupport(op): 8:32am On Jul 06, 2021
Poor storage and distribution, low market accessibility and insufficient processing facilities are the fueling factors in food waste in Africa. Most writers refer to food loss as anything lost between production and distribution, while food waste is anything lost at the consumer level. However, the term “post-harvest food loss” is often used to refer to food loss and food waste. (FLW). In sub-Saharan Africa, post-harvest food losses are estimated to be worth 4 billion dollars per year- or enough to feed at least 48 billion people.

In 2015, the United Nations announced a goal of halving worldwide food waste and substantially reducing global food loss by 2030 as part of its Sustainable Development Goals agenda. The reasons for the renewed interest in post-harvest food loss reduction in Sub-Saharan Africa are best understood by the multifaceted objectives underpinning the goal announced by the UN.

Food security exists when all people, at all times, have physical, social and economic access to sufficient, safe and nutritious food that meets their dietary needs and food preferences for an active and healthy life. (Committee on world food security, 2009)

Food loss and food waste, over the years, have greatly impaired food availability, accessibility, utilization and stability. This four pillars are the major components that define food security. Reducing food loss apparently increase the quantity of food available. This means there is physical inflow and presence of safe and nutritious food at a particular time and place.

One of the components of food security is whether an individual or household have access to food. An increase in food supply, Certrris paribus, should translate into a reduction in price for consumer. Since food deterioration is also a form of food loss and food waste; the nutrient composition of food and the ability of a body to effectively utilize it, is a major factor in food security. Food may be available and accessible to people who are able to utilize it effectively, but this state needs to be long lasting and permanent, rather than being temporary and fluctuating.

Reducing food loss and food waste — post harvest food loss will not only improve food security, but also improve food safety, reduce wasted resources and increase profits along the food supply chain. Everyone needs to do their bit in reducing post- harvest loss. Farmers should also see to damages caused by pest and disease. However, government can also help subside farm input and storage facilities necessary for effective production. Adoption of technology is also a way to mitigate post-harvest loss; government should invariably support agric-tech companies in providing huge market accessibility for farmers, in other to obliterate food loss along the distribution chain.

Inconclusion, It is a fact that “there is enough food to feed everyone on the planet yet 12% of the world live in hunger”, hence there is need for innovation in distribution, that is what we want to solve at DayDone Limited. and effective tailor-made distribution where this necessity called food will no longer be an option for anyone. That is how we believe we can make our world a better place
