Israeli forces on Saturday violently dispersed a rally staged by hundreds of Palestinians, some of whom were dressed as Santa Claus in the West Bank city of Bethlehem. Israeli soldiers used live ammunition, rubber bullets and teargas to disperse the protesters, according to an Anadolu Agency reporter. A number of demonstrators suffered temporary asphyxiation after inhaling teargas fired by the Israeli army, the correspondent said. Anadolu Agency photographer Hisham Abu Shaqra was injured while covering the rally after being hit by a teargas canister fired by Israeli soldiers. He was transferred to a hospital for treatment. Tension has mounted in the Palestinian territories since Dec. 6, when U.S. President Donald Trump recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, triggering protests across the Arab and Muslim world. Since then, at least 14 Palestinians have been martyred and hundreds injured in clashes with Israeli forces in the West Bank, East Jerusalem and Gaza Strip. Jerusalem remains at the heart of the perennial Middle East conflict, with Palestinians hoping that East Jerusalem -- occupied by Israel since 1967 -- might eventually serve as the capital of an independent Palestinian state. http://aa.com.tr/en/middle-east/israeli-army-disperses-santa-claus-protest-in-bethlehem/1013352

BETHLEHEM, Palestine Palestinian Christian religious leaders have decried U.S. recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital as an “insult” to Muslims and Christians around the world. “We, Palestinians, Christians and Muslims reject the U.S. recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel,” Jerusalem's Greek Orthodox Archbishop Atallah Hanna said at a press conference in the West Bank city of Bethlehem on Saturday. “This declaration is an insult to our people and to our just cause,” he said. He said the U.S. decision was “an insult to Christians and Muslims around the world, who consider Jerusalem as an incubator of their most sacred, spiritual and national heritage”. Hanna warned that the U.S. decision was “dangerous” to the Palestinian cause. “The U.S. gave the occupation what it does not deserve,” he said, “Jerusalem is the city which we consider as our capital and an incubator of our holy sites.” On Dec. 6, U.S. President Donald Trump officially recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital despite worldwide opposition. The decision sparked angry demonstrations across the Muslim world. Following a UN Security Council resolution that would have passed unanimously but for a U.S. veto, the UN General Assembly passed a resolution spurning the U.S. move by 128-9 votes. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and other top Turkish officials have been at the international forefront opposing the U.S. move, through sponsoring the UNGN resolution and calling an emergency meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, among other measures. Jerusalem remains at the heart of the Middle East conflict with Palestinians hoping that East Jerusalem -- occupied by Israel -- might eventually serve as the capital of an independent state of Palestine. Colonial Project Hanna said Israeli violations targeted all Palestinians, whether Muslims or Christians, and their holy sites in Jerusalem. "As we all stood up to defend the Aqsa Mosque, we will stand to defend the Christian endowments,” he said. “Together we will stop the new colonial Trump project which aims to end the Palestinian cause,” he stressed. Munib A. Younan, bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Jordan and the Holy Land, for his part, said Jerusalem is the capital of the three religions – Islam, Christianity and Judaism -- and the capital of two peoples. He stressed that the Evangelical Lutheran Church refuses any change of Jerusalem’s historical status. “Whoever tries to change it [status quo] wants to turn this just cause into a religious war," he said. Father Ibrahim Filtis, a Franciscan priest, said the U.S. decision on Jerusalem has brought the Palestinian cause back to the forefront of world attention. “This is a victory for the Palestinian cause, which is a central issue and the mother of all conflicts,” he said. Bethlehem’s Governor, Gebrin Bakri, for his part, reiterated the rejection of the 14 churches in Palestinian territories of the U.S. declaration on Jerusalem. “The U.S. states has decided to support Israel instead of supporting the status of the holy city,” he said. “Because of this decision, we will not accept the U.S. as a mediator in the peace process,” he said. http://aa.com.tr/en/middle-east/palestinian-christians-slam-us-jerusalem-recognition/1013323 |

Tolexander:Sir, I think using the word 'insensitivity' is not appropriate because what you perceived as insensitivity is called submissiveness (arabic :khushoo) in prayer which is one of the required conditions while praying for all Muslims and which they always try to attain when praying in a fear free environment. Also, the type of prayer you see them observing there is vividly described in the Quran. Where Allah said: " (101. When ye travel through the earth, there is no blame on you if ye shorten your prayers, for fear the Unbelievers May attack you: For the Unbelievers are unto you open enemies. 102. When thou (O Messenger) art with them, and standest to lead them in prayer, Let one party of them stand up (in prayer) with thee, Taking their arms with them: When they finish their prostrations, let them Take their position in the rear. And let the other party come up which hath not yet prayed - and let them pray with thee, Taking all precaution, and bearing arms: the Unbelievers wish, if ye were negligent of your arms and your baggage, to assault you in a single rush. But there is no blame on you if ye put away your arms because of the inconvenience of rain or because ye are ill; but take (every) precaution for yourselves. For the Unbelievers Allah hath prepared a humiliating punishment." (Quran ch.4 vs. 101-102) ....And from the first picture you can see some soldiers standing and watching over those praying. |

Adek15:We all should just be praying to Allah to guide us aright and be praying to Allah to guide our brothers too to His right path of Sunnah of the holy prophet. Also, we should desist from making jest of them because Allah said in Suratul nissa (Q4: V94) "....... thus was how you were before but Allah confered on you His favour". Therefore, let us keep on asking Allah for their guidance as well as trying to do da'wah to them by showing them the beauty of sunnah through our actions and sayings. |
AlhamduliLlah, may Allah guide us all and make our heart and feet stay firm on His right path. Ameen |
Chaii!! May God save this Country. This man was like a saint during Jonathan's regime. I wonder what the popular criminals then would have stolen. |
Good one. May God help this admistration to execute all the good projects they planned for the country. |
This is not what the country need at this moment. Why didnt they organize capacity building programme or technology challenge that will have good impact on the youth and bring about development to the country instead of shows that will spread nothing than immorality- my opinion though |
Wishing all prospective JAMBites Success. |

MINA: Among the 19,000 British pilgrims performing Haj this year was British Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Simon Paul Collis and his wife Huda Mujarkech. It was known by some diplomats and journalists that he had embraced Islam but there had been no official word. The confirmation came on Tuesday in the form of a tweet from Saudi writer and academic Fawziah Al-Bakr (@fawziah1). She posted two photos of Ambassador Collis and his wife in which he was wearing ihram, the two pieces of unstitched cloth that male pilgrims wear for performing the pilgrimage. The ambassador replied to the post by thanking Al-Bakr via his official Twitter handle (@HMASimonCollis). The ambassador’s wife (@HudaMCollis) retweeted Al-Bakr’s post. Though Collis refused media requests for interviews on Wednesday, he said: “I have converted to Islam after being in Muslim societies for 30 years, and right before getting married to Huda.” Collis has served as British ambassador to Saudi Arabia since January last year when Sir John Jenkins retired from the diplomatic service. The photos went viral on Twitter, Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram, sending social media into overdrive. Among the first who congratulated the ambassador and his wife was Princess Basmah bint Saud (@PrincessBasmah). “Special congratulations to the ambassador and his wife,” wrote Princess Basmah. “Thank you, Princess Basmah,” replied the ambassador. British pilgrims were pleasantly surprised by the news. “I would like to congratulate the ambassador on the historic occasion of his completion of Haj,” said Rashid Mogradia, CEO of the Council of British Hajis (CBHUK). “He is one of many thousands of British pilgrims to perform the journey of faith and we look forward to him sharing his experience and inspiring us all,” Mogradia added. At a time when there is so much adverse publicity against Islam and Muslims, especially in the West, the ambassador’s embrace of Islam was seen by the faithful as a vindication of the religion’s universal appeal. Collis speaks fluent Arabic. He joined the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) in 1978 and, after studying Arabic, has served mainly in the Arab world. A father of five children, his first posting was to Bahrain as second secretary (1981-1984). He served as British ambassador to Iraq (2012-2014), Syria (2007-2012) and Qatar (2005-2007). He was the British consul-general in Dubai (2000-2004) and in Basra (2004-2005). He also served in New Delhi as first secretary from 1991 to 1994. http://www.arabnews.com/node/984391/saudi-arabia |

The heavy presence of security agents averted what could have been mayhem in Alaba International Market, Ojo, Lagos, yesterday. Traders in that section of the market, locked their shops to protest the overbearing influence of Chief Azubuike Ekwerekwu, aka Obosi, who they claimed had enslaved them over the years, by forcing them to pay through their noses in matters of security, shops and PSP, among others. They also accused him of ‘manipulating the elected executives’ to exploit them. The protesters marched to Ojo Police Station carrying placards with different inscriptions like “Obosi must go,” “Obosi has exploited us enough,” “Obosi is our problem,” “Obosi rules market with thugs and in-laws” and “Obosi has enslaved us.” One of the protesters, Inno, told Daily Sun that, “Obosi is the problem we have in Alaba market.” According to him, Obosi is too powerful and does not allow the elected members of the market to work. “He is the one who determines whatever each trader will pay. We want the man to leave the traders alone.” Another demonstrator, simply identified as Ken, said they can no more tolerate the overbearing influence of Obosi. “Take for instance, the Vice President of the Amalgamated Traders Association is his boy. The financial secretary is his boy. The treasurer is his in-law. The public relations officer (PRO) is his brother, the task force chairman is his nephew, the store keeper is from the same town with him and the ward chairman is his boy.” Another traders, who pleaded anonymity for security reasons, said what brought about the protest was the arrest of the market security chairman identified as Okey by policemen from Ojo Police Station. This development frayed nerves, and was about to degenerate into chaos, but the traders took their protest to the Ojo Police Division. President of the Amalgamated Traders Association of Alaba International Market, Emeka Mozoba, bailed Okey and appealed to the traders to go back to the market. Addressing the traders, Azubuike assured that their freedom had started. He and other leaders were invited to Area E Police Command, Festac Town. As at about 2.00pm, the traders were yet to open their shops. http://newsnews.com.ng/alaba-market-boils-closed-as-traders-protest-over-obosi/ |
A preacher with the Winners Chapel Church at Adesanmi area of Ile-Ife, Osun State on Saturday August 13 beat a Muslim lady for refusing to accept Jesus. It was learnt that the Christian evangelist had gone to the compound of the Muslim lady to preach when she beat her. According to eyewitnesses, the Hijab lady refused to come out when the preacher initially knocked on her door. The iWitness NG gathered that after the Hijab sister was lobbied to come out of the room, she was allegedly cursed and subsequently beaten. A resident of the area narrated, “It happened on Saturday morning in our hostel. There is one Hajia that stays in my compound. We just saw blood all over her face with a lot of marks. “What happened was that someone came to preach to her to accept Christ and attend a church programme and she rejected. The preacher was shouting from outside but Hajia told her that she wasn’t interested. Hajia later told her that she is a Muslim. “Instead of the preacher to leave her alone, she intensified the preaching and kept shouting. Hajia later came out in her Muslim cloth (Jalbab). When the preacher saw her in full Muslim gown, she started abusing her the more that ‘I don’t know it is people like you, you this masquerade, you better accept christ as your lord and saviour or you will go to hell fire’.” “The Hajia got vexed and went inside back. Yet, the preacher did not leave. Hajia had to come out for the second time to ask the preacher to leave her alone. Yet, the preacher still didn’t leave. As Hajia wanted to return to her room, the preacher dragged Hajia close to her and started hitting her to accept Christ. Hajia face was later filled with blood and marks.” Another neighbour explained that despite being injured, Hajia ran after the preacher but was persuaded by some Christians. He added, “I saw Hajia running after the preacher. The preacher held a girl with her but later told the girl to run to church. After a while, the preacher entered a house and Hajia still followed her. In the house, the preacher ran into a room but Hajia insisted she comes out. She shouted until people in the house came out. They saw Hajia injured and pleaded with her.” However, it was gathered that the Imam of a ratibi (small) mosque at Olubuse Street, Ile-Ife later intervened. When he intervened, the imam, it was learnt traced the Church of the preacher in the company of a police officer. “When they got to the Church, they didn’t meet the preacher. Members of the church initially said they didn’t know her until Hajia pointed to the girl that the woman came with to her house. “They later called their pastor, who apologised on the lady’s behalf,” Muhammed, one of the Muslims at Olubuse Street added. The iWitness NG also gathered that the case was reported at the Moore Police Station, Ile-Ife and the Chairman of Oduduwa Estate Community, Alhaji Balogun also intervened. When iWitness NG correspondent went to observe Ishai in a mosque at Oduduwa Estate, Olubuse Street on Sunday, the imam said, “As an update, we have resolved the matter. We were at the Police station this evening and the Christians agreed that they were faulty, pleaded with us and paid the hospital bill for the treatment of the Muslim lady injured.” A police officer at Moore Police Station, who pleaded anonymity, confirmed the incident. The officer said the affected Muslim lady identified as Shakira studies at the Faculty of Education, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. “We have resolved the issue and proper settlement already took place,” the officer said. http://www.iwitness.com.ng/winners-chapel-preacher-beats-muslim-lady-for-refusing-to-accept-christ/ |
